QT movie imported to FCP Studio to make HD.

I have a client who has created a digital art piece that he needs in HD. He created the images in photoshop and used a cheap windows editing system to make the slideshow.mov. He now needs it in HD and I'm wondering if can take the .mov file he has and import that in FCP and export to HD. Will that change quality? Or do I need to completely re-create the project and export to HD in compressor. I'm new to HD...have been working in SD for years now and don't understand the concept of true HD yet. Help me please.

I did some research and you can up-scale SD to HD 1080 or 720 in compressor but this plug by red giant is very useful. It is a quick fix and looks really sharp. For $99 it was a steal for me and gives me the capability to do it again easily. Compressor didn't do a very good job of keeping its sharpness from the original SD file. The image begins to get fuzzy when up-scaling to 1080. Thanks again!

  • QT7 Movie import to FCP 4.5 Problem

For quite a while now, I've used the Freeware program GCam to record interviews via firewire to my 12inch AlBook. GCam allows an option to make the files 720x480, the standard DV size I use.
I've tried using QT 7.03 Pro to do the same, but the file sizes are 640x480 and FCP won't allow import saying the file is an unrecognized format.
Has anyone had luck with QT & and FCP?
BTW, my camera is a Firewire equipped Sony DSR-500WS, and I normally shoot 4x3, not 16x9. -Thanks for any help!

You try importing to iMovie the exporting as dv or full quality QT?

is it possible to import subclips from FCP 7 projects into FCPX?

reading further in the 7toX instructions, contrary to your comment, they say
Translating a Final Cut Pro Project
To translate a full Final Cut Pro project:
    Make sure there is nothing selected in the Browser;
Choose the File menu and from the Export submenu select XML…
When imported into Final Cut Pro X after translation, the bins will be translated to keyword collections, based on the bin name. Log notes and other metadata will be in the Notes field for each clip.

  • H.264 HD MOV file in dvd studio not importing?

I have an H.264 HD video (1,440 x 1080, 16 x 9). I was able to import into FCp and export out to quicktime successfully yet when I attempt to import this file into DVD Studio it shuts down as it tries to import, throwing an error? Any ideas.

I'm having the same problem when attempting to produce an HD DVD as recommended by Rick Young.
I have no difficulty in burning an HD DVD using MPEG compression, but I'm unable to get DVDSP to accept an H264 file created using compressor (H264 for DVDSP setting). The .mov file when brought into DVDSP4 is seen only as an audio file; it plays as video in QT and also in iDVD as expected. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

  • How can I import .mov file into dvd studio pro?

    Hi,
I have a .mov file and want to but a dvd with menu and chapters. But when I try to import the .mov file into dvd studio pro it says Incompatible format. How can I import my .mov file in to dvd studio pro?

    Two ways…
Transcode into a codec like Pro Res, import into DVDSP and let it do the encoding.
    Or better yet:
Import into Compressor, choose a DVD preset and let Compressor encode. It will make two files, separate video and audio files. Import those into DVDSP.
    Good luck.

  • Trouble importing .mov files into FCP...

Hello, all. Hope someone can help me solve this problem.
I just installed Final Cut Pro on my machine, much to my delight, and immediately set about attempting to edit a video project I was commissioned for. However, I quickly stumbled into a big problem: the files I'm attempting to edit (all .mov format) refuse to import properly into FCP. Despite the fact that they play flawlessly in Quicktime, when imported to FCP, they require an inordinate render time when placed in a sequence and, what's worse, do not render properly. The picture jumps frames in the preview, and, once rendered, a red flash is introduced in place of the missing frames, generating a seizure-inducing mess that is already giving me quite a headache.
How can I fix this problem? I am open to the idea of file conversion, but don't understand why .mov won't work. I've searched the Internet for answers and found little to no information on how to solve this. Please help!

My problem, every single movie file that i import will show red in FCP, no exception.
That means that you are brining in QT file types that FCP does not work with natively.
I cant imagine what file/codec type FCP is designed for but I tried files from my phone, two different video cams and two different still cams with video option.
FCP is designed to work with professional cameras, and a slew of consumer types. It is NOT suited for raw cel phone video, and most video types that point and shoot cameras record. For those cameras you need to convert the footage to the type that FCP works with. If you look in the EASY SETUPS in the Final Cut Pro menu, you will see the codecs that FCP works with.
ALL of these BTW, work in imovie.
Because it is meant to be used with consumer formats. But note, it converts a lot of the footage to an Apple codec in the background...or does rendering in the background to a uniform codec. It is designed for people who just want to drop footage in and go. But lacks many professional attributes. BUT, if it works, use that.
Is it just a fact of life that I have to get all types of video codec conversion software to be able to use FCP with typical video files?
Just one...MPEG STREAMCLIP. Convert everything to DV/NTSC.
Or get Adobe Premiere Pro. It is designed to work with files natively.

  • Pro Tools files imported to FCP X causing QuickTime movie problem

Well 2 days later and hours on the phone with Apple tech support Senior Advisors, and problem still not solved. HELP.
Everything works fine in FCP X, but when I create the QuickTime movie, it is way out of sync (by many seconds).
We have isolated the problem to audio files that I am exporting to Pro Tools, processing, and then importing back into FCP X. I can create a QuickTime movie with the original video/audio and it is fine.
    Information
The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
I simply provide this FYI. As I said earlier, the original video works fine and the resulting QuickTime movie works fine. So the original  files imported into the FCP project are not the problem.
The creation of the problem audio occurs as follows:
    - Detach the original audio from the original video, and export
    - Import this audio into a 48.0 kHz/16-bit Pro Tools HD session and EQ/limit the audio
    - Import the resulting audio into FCP X (exact same length file, audio waveforms aligned with the original audio).
This audio works fine in FCP. It is in sync with the video, everything looks great.
I ran Pro Tools at 16-bits because a senior advisor told me FCP runs at 16-bits but does not convert imported stand-alone audio (as opposed to combined video/audio) to 16-bits; thus the Pro Tools session had to be at 16-bits. I changed from 24-bits to 16-bits, and this didn't solve the problem. (FYI, when Pro Tools imports the original audio exported from FCP, it says the audio is 24-bits, not 16-bits).
    What is the problem?
The basic question is why does this audio cause QuickTime a problem?
Something is going on in the conversion to the QT movie. In FCP X, I don't have a way to play with the conversion variables except to set "Video and Audio" and "Use current settings" (which is ProRes 422).
The only difference I see between the original audio and the Pro Tools audio is that the original audio is stereo and Pro Tools works with dual mono files (L & R). The mono files work fine in FCP and I can't imagine why QT would have a problem with these, but I haven't tried converting the files to stereo before importing into FCP.
I should also mention that I selected the stabilization and roll correction algorithms in FCP. I assume these don't create problems in QT. I mention this because I didn't use them when I tested making a QT movie with the original video/audio files.
FCP and Pro Tools are used together all the time to do exactly what I am doing......improve the sound of the original audio. They are the premier video and audio professional programs. Of course, the final product is often not a QuickTime movie, but many times it is a QT movie.
What the heck is going on???
    HELP.

    (1) It is immediately out of sync. It even appears to be speeded up to me initially, but this is subjective. But it is clearly out of sync throughout, not a gradual drift.
    (2) When I create the audio files in the Pro Tools session, the files are automatically stored in the audio folder of the  Pro Tools session. So I don't actually have to go through an export process. I just close the Pro Tools session, then open FCP X and import the audio from the Pro Tools folder.
I'm not sure what additional specifications you seek, other than:
    - wav files
    - sample rate = 48 kHz
    - Bit rate = 16-bits (and earlier I used 24-bits)
    - Files are dual mono, rather than stereo (name_01.L.wav, name_01.R.wav). As I mentioned above, I have not yet tried converting these to stereo before importing into FCP, to see if dual mono causes an issue with QT. It does not cause a problem in FCP. I will try this today if we don't solve the problem.
    (3) I can upload a portion of the audio to a server and send you a link to the file so you can download it. Is there a way to private message on the forum so I can get an email address to send you the link?
    (4) The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48 kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
The FCP Project was set up at:
    - Starting time code - 01.00.00.00
    - Format - 1080p
    - Resolution - 1920 x 1080
    - Frame rate - 29.97p
    - Audio channels - stereo
    - Sample rate - 48 kHz
    - Rendering format - Apple ProRes 422

  • Trying to Import HD into FCP Studio 1.5 Suite

    Hi Gang
    I have FCP Studio 1.5
    I have a Power Mac G5 2.0 Dual Core
I have an nVidia GEForce 7800GT Video Card
I have 5 Gigs of RAM
Can you tell me how I can get HD QT footage onto the timeline? It's there but the Browser and Canvas Screen are black.
    Thanx
    Mike

    Hello Jerry & Zak
    I have QT Version 7.6.2 (518)
The HD footage I believe is HDV
    It appears part of the problem is because I don't have the correct QT component to playback HD. But I sure don't know which of these to download and install;
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html?os=OSX&ctype=696d6463&c subtype=78647664
Once I find the right component, I'm concerned that my QT playback functionality will be unaltered (as I'm editing mostly standard Def).
And yes I'm using FCP Studio 5.1.4 (I've had the Studio 2 version upgrade package), but I haven't loaded it in yet, as I'm mid-stream through an important project.
I'm wondering if this problem may also be due to sequence settings. But 95% of my captured footage is from Mini DV 720x480. Perhaps I need to open a separate project (new sequence), devoted to compatible settings for HD. Then convert the HD footage for the bulk of the project back into the other standard Def projects.
    Thanx
    Mike

  • .mov file from FCP, what's the next step to convert it to play on a dvd?

I have a project save to a .mov file from FCP and it looks great. It was shot in 720 HD but my dvd won't play .mov files.
I'd like to either convert it to an .avi or mpeg file now but after trying a few times through QT Pro and even Mpeg Streamclip, the footage is either pixelated or is too choppy to play on my dvd (Samsung HT5500).
What are the best settings to convert a HD .mov file to play on a dvd so it looks great. What software should I use for this... QT Pro or Mpeg Streamclip?
    TIA,
    Dale

    DVD Studio Pro.
And you can't make a DVD that is HD; DVDs are standard definition. You can make Blu-ray discs with a Blu-ray burner and Blu-ray player, but you DVDs will only be 720x480.
Convert in Compressor with a preset for DVD, and import that into DVD Studio Pro.

  • After effects animation Codec won't import into FCP

    Hi
I have used After Effects to do a green screen key on some HD 1080i footage.
I then went to export - quicktime movie - animation
I understand that the animation codec is the only way to export with an alpha channel so that I can put other footage in after my nice green screen key.
I set quality to best and frame rate to 25, I also tried frame rate as current and it exports and plays back fine in quicktime movie player, but won't import into final Cut.
The error message is "wrong frame rate"
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am quite new to after effects and wonder if there is something wrong with the way it is seeing the footage as I shot in widescreen and the image is squeezed as for a 4:3 TV aspect ratio.
    Thanks.
    Ajay

    1. Check your AE composition settings (cmd-k) and be sure your frame rate is set to 25... AE uses the frane rate of your composition and not the settings in your export module...
    2. Do not use the "export" command in AE... that is used only for special purposes only (i.e. for using "quicktime exporto compnents" not available under the export queue)...
    3. use the "make movie" or "add to export queue" command instead
    4. You expot module should be set as:
    - best settings
    - animation + alpha
do not specify any frame rate in the export module!! AE automatically uses the frame rate in your composition settings!!
    5. Export and import into fcp...
I never had problems with AE animation+alpha and fcp 6.0.1

  • Is this Mac ok for work with FCP Studio 5.1?

    Hi all,
in the next few weeks i'm hoping to make the change from PC to Mac based editing, using FCP Studio 5.1. This is what i'm thinking of buying:
imac 24" TFT (this will show HD won't it?), 2.33Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667 DDR2 RAM, Nvidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB, 250GB Hard Drive, DVD Writer.
Will this run FCP Studio 5.1 smoothly?
    Many thanks, mat.
ps. what is the deal with FCP 6? Is it set for release soon? If so, i may put off the move until then.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    These specs suggest it should:

  • HT1338 FCP Studio convert MXF Files (Canon C300)

Anyone have a suggested method for converting MXF files shot with a Canon C300 for use with FCP Studio 7.
    Thanks!

You can convert the Canon C300 mxf footage to the other common format, like MOV, ProRes MOV as that format is easy to import and edit on Final Cut Pro 7. For convert the Canon C300 MXF to ProRes mov, have two software for your choice:
    1. Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro : http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0040354.asp?model=
    2. A Converter : Google ....
But use Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro seems that some frames were dropped when transcoded to ProRes 422. So the best way is convert Canon XF300 MXF to ProRes 422 MOV by a mxf converter. ( You can download try this : converter )

  • Creating animations that will import into FCP

What are some program options for creating and manipulating objects like squares, rectangles and circles that will be used for creating animations to be imported into protions of FCP projects. The final output will be DVD's. Director MX2004 works very well for creating the animations, however when converted to a QT movie and imported into FCP, the animations look like a copy of a VHS tape. (Export settings were component video.) The animations are not acceptable when viewed on both a TV and NTSC monitor. Is anyone successfully using Director for such an application? I would certainally appreciate any suggestions.
    G5 2 X 2   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   G4 15" Power Book

I agree about the material that is coming out of Director being the problem.
The fundamental questions is "is Director capable of this kind of output?"?? I was hoping someone would tell me "this is how I did it" or "It is impossible using Director". All I know is there was some animation from Director in at least top movie a couple of years--I don't remember its name. So someone was able to get animation out of Director good enough for the film industry!
As for other questions you posed. The vector graphics I need can be created and manipulated as I need in Director. The whole project could be done in Director and outputed as a cross platform "projector" from a Mac or PC version of Director. However, there some issues with keeping things "in time" using Director. Using Director for the whole project is "plan B".
With regards to your other questions. In short, I want to animate some very detaliled shop type activities that are hard to video and understand. The animations will compliment the video and will show/simplify concepts needed to learn particular shop skills.
I want to make and market a series of DVD on these shop activites. Yes I know it is not a small project. I have been working on problems relating to everything from copyrighting to the insurance/liability aspects for several years. I also have the hardware & software to make DVD "demos" and examples to "show and tell". Now I need some help getting the stuff to do what I want/need!
FCP is the best option for "putting together" audio, video and amimation before making a DVD.
    Thank you for your input.
