QT Movies have chapter markers?

So I'm watching this QT AE tutorial from ToolFarm and notice a title chapter at the end of the timeline. I click on it and see these other names that I had seen throughout the tutorial. I click on them and say "HOLY S###!, you can put navigation markers in QT movies!!!" How do you do this? FCP, QT???

There are also AppleScripts that can add chapter tracks.

  • Burning movies with chapter markers crash iDVD in snow leopard

    Hi Everyone-
When attempting to burn movies that have had chapter markers added in iDVD, my machine will crash during rendering. Removing chapters fixes the problem, but I would like to use that functionality. I've tried the usual fixes (delete plist files, permissions repair, re-install iDVD, re-install snow leopard) with no luck.
    Any advice out there?
    Thanks

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !

  • All I want is a QuickTime Movie with chapter markers :)

    Hi,
This should be simple . . . very simple . . . but I don't think DVD Studio Pro will do it? I have a QuickTime movie - shot with the HVX200, overcranked - stunning video with numerous chapter markers created in Final Cut Pro exported as a self contained movie. I love the way you can click the little window at the lower right side of the QT player, and the chapter markers just drop drown so you can choose which one you 'd like to see.
I'd like to create a DVD of exactly that . . . what looks like a QuickTime player where I just click the little play triangle, and it plays. To see chapter markers, just click the little number (chapter marker) at the bottom of the screen - and voila - the chapter marker dropdown comes down. Is there a way in DVD Studio Pro to simple let the quicktime movie look exactly like . . . the quicktime movie? No menus, no special screens - just the QT player window and movie in it !
Can this be done? Thanks very much for considering.
    Larry
    Thanks

Thank you, Eric. On one hand this is "Solved" because you're confirming what I want doesn't exist - so I can put it to bed! On the other hand . . . you were "helpful" because you didn't SOLVE the problem!
    Welcome to life
Thanks for confirming what I believed, though - it's always nice to have other opinions in a decision.

  • The difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers

Does anyone know what is the difference between chapter markers and dvd studio pro markers? I can not find anywhere on Google. Also in the tutorials I have seen, suggesting DVD Studio Pro markers, but it did not mention the chapter markers.
    Thanks,

"Adding Chapter and Compression Markers to Your Sequence
Once you have your edited sequence or program finished, you can add markers to the sequence for use on DVD. Markers are reference points you can place within clips or sequences that identify specific frames. There are two kinds of markers you can add that directly relate to authoring a DVD—chapter markers and compression markers.
    • Chapter markers allow DVD authoring applications to create a navigable chapter list for your exported QuickTime movie. Chapter markers force MPEG keyframes (known as I-frames) at their location, since the DVD specification requires an I-frame at each chapter point.
    • Compression markers identify areas of abrupt change and include two types: those that are automatically inserted by Final Cut Pro at all edit points, and those you manually place in the clip or sequence. Like chapter markers, compression markers force I-frames at their location, although in this case it is for better quality encoding, and they are not used to create a chapter list.
Note: When you export a QuickTime movie, you have an option to export various kinds of markers, including compression, chapter, or DVD Studio Pro markers. *When you choose to export DVD Studio Pro markers, Final Cut Pro actually exports chapter markers and all compression markers.* This includes compression markers you set manually, as well as ones created automatically by Final Cut Pro at edit and transition points."

  • How can I create chapter markers that iTunes will recognize?

I recently purchased several audiobooks from Barnes and Noble which are encoded as MP3s with chapter markers inserted into the metadata in a proprietary format. I am trying to convert them to appear properly in iTunes.
It appears that I could import them into a GarageBand podcast project, and create markers by hand there, but that is very slow and impractical for dozens of hours of audiobooks.
I would like to simply edit the metadata associated with the file so that iTunes will recognize them.
Here is an example MP3 audiobook file with proprietary chapter metadata:

The resulting file appears to have chapter markers in the same format as the iTunes audiobook format, however the chapter markers don't show up in iTunes, QuickTime Player or on my iPhone. VLC however does recognize the chapter markers.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? I seem to be at a bit of an impasse here.
Edit: I am using iTunes 10.1.2 if that makes any difference.

    Hi,
WS20000077 this std. Workflow for the PR Release this has different levels of approvals, Depends on the no. of approvals it will flow.
The approver can picked using the User Exit M06B0001 (EXIT_SAPLEBNF_001), here you have to write a logic to pick the Approver.
The approval workitem comes to SAP Inbox, once the approver click the workitem it will open the Transaction, there the user can approve.
And for BUS2009 issue , discuss with Functional Consultant check configuration done separately  for Purchase requisition item.

  • Can I recompress without losing Chapter markers?

    Hi all,
I have a couple of QT movies (m4v) that I exported from FCP using compressor that have chapter markers which show up great in QT. I want to make the movies smaller still (they are about 800MB at the moment, I really need less than 500MB) but if I try and select the compressor options (QVGA) that will get the movie that small, I seem to lose the chapter markers. I'm thinking maybe I can use the chapter markered QT file as the source and just compress that but Compressor does not seem to import the Chapter markers from the QT file it created!!
    Any ideas? Many thanks

  • How can I add chapter markers in the new iMovie (2013)?

I like to have chapter markers in my movies so that when I make the dvd the menu allows me to go to different chapters easily in the movie.  The old version of imovie had this feature and I can't seem to find it in this new version.

Since Apple discontinued iDVD the newest version of iMovie can't create chapter markers.
Fine, so how do I set chapters for my Podcasts and QuickTime movie ?

  • How to Copy Chapter Markers from one file to another

    Hi all,
I am a relatively new GB user, so forgive the hopefully easy question. I want to combine four GarageBand files into one, in order. So right now i have part 1, part 2, part 3, etc.
I figured out how to copy and paste the actual recordings in sequence (selected them all, copy and paste, worked great.) But I also have chapter markers that I want to copy and paste. I have the spacing worked out PERFECTLY and don't want to re-create them all. I know that I can select all the markers in a file, but they don't seem to want to paste. Instead, the headings from the file that were already there seem to repeat (most likely because of the time headings...)
Is there an easy way to do this?
    - Many thanks,
    Michael

    Hmm. This is a stumper.
I don't think it's possible in GB, obviously.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to (from GB) export each project as it's own podcast quicktime movie, then use another app to stitch these movies together? I would think QuickTime Player Pro would do this.
I tried looking for the chapter markers within the quicktime movie file, hoping you could copy and paste just those, but I didn't find any access to them.

  • Missing with chapter markers after Export Using QuickTime Conversion

I have my FCE workflow setup as follows:
I create the sequences using relatively large video source files, in Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).
Then, I use Export -> Using QuickTime Conversion to H.264 Codec, but my chapter markers are lost.
If I use Export -> QuickTime Movie, the chapter markers are preserved, but the codec is still AIC.
I need a compressed file with chapter markers. What am I missing?

One more time: "Where are you looking at the exported file? After making a DVD or somewhere else?"
Can you answer this for me? How are you looking at this material? Off the DVD you've burned? Is that what you're saying? Comparing the QuickTime Movie export to a DVD burned from a PhotoJPEG export? Or are you playing it from the computer to HDMI? If so are you using the QuickTime player? Is the QT player set to high quality playback? Yes, PhotoJPEG (not JPEG Photo) is a very large file especially at full quality. You probably don't need any more than 75% quality. I'd be very surprised if you say you can see the difference between 75% and 100%.
The length of the video is important not the size of the disc. iDVD's compression is fixed by the length of movie and the amount of content that has to be encoded.

  • Ipad not recognizing chapter markers

    Hi,
I can make a timeline in FCPro 7 - and I name the chapter markers with a number that corresponds  with, in this case, a horse hip number at a horse sale!
So I'll have a 30 minute movie edited in FCPro 7 with 10 chapter markers - all named with a number.
When I export to a SC movie - all chapter markers show up perfectly.  I then run the SC movie thru Compressor - and compress for iPad.  NOW, my problem begins.
When I drop the compression in iTunes and sync with my iPad (Model MB293LL)  - it syncs perfectly with the iPad - and I see the Chapter Markers - but the "names" of them are lost!  They're just renamed 1, 2, 3, etc and I've completely lost the number I've used to rename them???
So I "see" all the chapter markers - but their 'name' has been lost?
Interestingly, if I bring in the same movie to my iPhone - the Chapter markers show up perfectly!  And hold my "name" perfectly.  Is this an iPad bug?
But I could've sworn that a year or so ago, this did all work.  Anyone else have this issue - that the chater marer names are lost in iPad?
    Thanks,
    Larry

So from that I'd say it doesn't seem to be a quirk of Compressor's or FCP's reading of the markers.
Maybe an iOS or iPad-specific thing. Unfortunately, not owning an iPad, I can't try and replicate the problem.
You might want to try a short test where you create and name the markers in Compressor and see whether the names are retained.
Perhaps the iPad discussion forum could turn up someone who has had that experience…and a solution.
    Good luck.

  • Can Front Row show Chapter Markers?

    Hi,
We LOVE Front Row! Elegant, stunning, very well done. We have high definition movies with chapter markers and have put them in our iTunes Library. Front Row sees them and plays them in HiDef.
Beautiful . . . we can even jump to the next chapter marker (even go backwards to the previous marker) by clicking the right or left arrow. BUT . . . is there any way at all to be able to "see" all the chapter markers in the movie - so you can click one that's NOT the next consecutive chapter? Like with QuickTime, you can see a little box in the lower right corner and select any Chapter you want. Can Front Row do this?
Thanks VERY much for any thoughts.
    Larry

Thank you, Douglas. You've confirmed what we thought! I was hoping there might be a way, but alas - I guess not

  • Chapter Markers - where did they go???

I've searched and found a lot of posts, but no solution that works for me.
I've followed this: http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/compression_chapter_markersstone.html and it doesn't help.
I've exported every way possible from FCP, and when I bring the file (or export directly) into Compressor, I can see the markers.
When I encode in Compressor, and bring it into DVD Studio Pro, there are no Chapter Markers anywhere. I had even made sure to check the boxes regarding DVD Studio Pro and Chapter Markers.
    What am I missing?
Can anyone tell me if there's a way to export the Chapter Markers from FCP and import it into DVD Studio Pro?
    Any help would be appreciated...

Of course I get it working right after I posted this...
Here's the solution so others can benefit:
Exporting the QT movie with "Chapter Markers" instead of anything else. You'd think that a setting specifically for "DVD Studio Pro" would work, but it doesn't. "All Markers" won't work either. Since the word "all" doesn't mean "all," it's all very confusing.
Once in Compressor, you want to see your markers show up purple instead of green. Importing the compressed file immediately imported the chapter markers.
    Recap:
    1. In FCP, create markers, open them and designate them as Chapter Markers.
    2. Export to Compressor or QT movie, self contained not necessary, using ONLY the "Chapter Markers" setting.
    3. Encode in Compressor, and bring into DVD Studio Pro.
More details are in the other posts and links, and here's another good one:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/exporting_markers_fromfcp.html
Silal - yes, I tried selecting the clip and using "import embedded markers," but I apparently would needed a text file with that data already prepared in order to do that. I tried searching for a way to export only a chapter marker list, but I haven't found a way to do that. It would have saved me from re-encoding everything twice if I had found a way. (I would have made one manually if I didn't have almost 90 Chapters!) ...and I knew the markers needed to be in the timeline and not in the clips, but thanks for checking.
    My 2 Cents:
I don't see any reason why this can't be greatly simplified. With the numbers of other users having the same confusion as I did, Apple should address this. Imagine this: You simply create a marker in FCP, and export with an option that automatically designates them all as chapter markers, and then it just works the first time. Having an option to export a chapter marker text file for importing over previously encoded files would be nice, too.

I must be losing it. I meant to post in this thread.
My chapters are clean. Pretty good at avoiding anything problematic. I even keep spaces out of my folder names because when I learned to use computers they weren't allowed. (only 128 characters too, if I remember correctly)
I have the previous versions of Final Cut Studio. The recent decline of DVD and the economy has eaten my departments budget to upgrade the OS to Leopard and to Studio 2 so FCP 5.1.4, etc.
Maybe this has been fixed in the upgrade?
My editor has upgraded. So, this would be entirely a moot issue if Apple saw fit to make their projects backwards compatible. (Don't get me started on that) I guess I will have to stay on top of my contract editors and sending me an XML so I can work in their projects. Or giving me the M2V's I ask for already rendered.
Until we can upgrade around here.
    thanks for the help tho.
