QT movies: sometimes anamorphic; sometimes squished

I have just been looking at several of the QT movies in my Final Cut Express Capture Scratch. All are exactly as they came from my PAL camera when captured. When they are played directly in QT Player (I have QT 7.1.3) without any editing, some display (correctly) as 16:9 and others as squashed 4:3 (ie., people are thin and tall). Each movie shows under "Show Movie Info" the following:
DV, 720 x 576 (1024 x 576)
yet they display at these different aspect ratios in QT Player. I cannot find any relevant differences between the two sets of movie. All were shot on the same camera always set to Widescreen (the camera claims to be "true Widescreen"). All display as 16:9 in FCE and have their Anamorphic data checked. My Easy Setup is DV PAL Anamorphic.
Why this display difference in QT player please?

Why this display difference in QT player please?Believe the difference is in the manner in which the files were tagged when captured to your computer. For instance, if you capture the file with the project "Easy Setup" set for DV Anamorphic, if I remember correctly, the file will be displayed in QT at the correct 16:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, if you forget to set the application for anamorphic capture, or the application used for catpure is not "anamorphic aware," then it will be displayed at the 1.33:1 aspect ratio by QT. In any case, as Colin indicated, you can always reset the "current" display by simply re-scaling it with QT Pro with Preserve Aspect Ratio switched off. BTW, this would be a mandatory step it you use the QT Pro or iTunes iPod/TV conversion preset (which has no manual scaling option) on the 1.33:1 displayed "anamorphic" file.

Chances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
    Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian.  Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

  • Ichat 4.0 Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't

    Hello,
I have asked many firewall questions on this forum before. At this stage, what seems to work are the appletest servers, both video and voice. But...I have many friends that have accounts that sometimes work, sometimes don't. With no changes whatsoever to the firewall or computers. These users that I try to contact run the gamut from aim on windows, to ichat on tiger, to ichat on leopard. And again, sometimes will work, sometimes not.
I found an article on the web that states that multiple computers on your home network with the same user id's could cause this issue....Is that true? I have a 5 mac household, and the user id's are all the same. Now I'm only logged into ichat as me on my computer, so I'm not sure how that could happen.
I have read the docs about ports to open, and I have opened them all, and then some, because I have found that sometimes ichat demands a port to be open that has nothing to do with those listed.
    Any clues?

I have comcast as a service provider. They provide the modem. I have my own computer based router, running freebsd. I have full control over the firewall. I am running NAT inside the firewall. I have seen this behavior with both the firewall disabled, and with the ports I have opened. What is crazy is that while watching the security logs, when I test an account that doesn't work, I'll get a UDP deny on some arbitrary port that isn't supposed to be used by ichat.

  • Sometimes will, sometimes won't detect wifi (anywhere!)

As the subject says, sometimes my phone (3G) will find my wifi (after I do a reboot of it by holding the home and power buttons in) other times no matter what I try, it only says "Could not scan for wireless networks." Since every time it goes into sleep mode, it disconnects from my wifi, I tend to lose that connection and then have to just get lucky in getting it back. I live in the middle of nowhere so I'm only on the Edge network. This makes things mighty slow. We have 2 iphones in the house, one is a GS3 and mine the 3G. The GS connects to the network along with every other wireless device. If it wasn't a sometimes on, sometimes off I would say it might be the network, but even when I'm at work, it will not scan for networks there either. Any suggestions other than throwing it against a wall? I've tried searching for remedies but only found that this has persisted for other users since at least 2009 with no one offering a real remedy.
    I have tried:
    Rebooting
    Turning off 3G
    Resetting all networks
Turning on then off airplane mode
Trying to manually join the network
    Rebooting again
    Updating firmware
    Rebooting yet again
Checked to see that it does indeed have a wifi mac address (it does)
I'm out of ideas and would really like to have my phone work like it is suppose to.
    Thanks

  • My Satellite L650 sometimes hang sometimes

    Hello,
My Satellite L650 sometimes hang sometimes, most of time it happens when im gaming, the sounds "hangs" it makes wierd sounds when it does and also my video graphics are laggy. Never had it on any other pc/laptop before :S
    How can I fix this?
    Greetings,
    Arnie

    Hi buddy,
Can you post a little bit more details? Also some information about operating system would be nice, nobody knows what you use. Do you use a Linux distribution?
If you play games I would recommend high performance power plan as as*** already wrote. It offers best option and performance for games and other high CPU usage programs.
Furthermore keep your system clean: uninstall programs that you dont need and disable start up programs that you dont need. This can improve the performance a lot!
But you must understand its very hard to say something about sometimes errors.

  • Button working sometimes and sometimes not

I am using CRM 2013 and there is a + button under Opportunities to add products. When we click on +, a custom page opens up with all the products and their prices. At the bottom of the custom page is the add button which will add the required products
under the opportunity. When we click on save, the opportunity is now saved with the product line.
The problem here is that when we click on the add button on the custom page, sometimes the products do not get added to the opportunity however the window is closed and we are back to the opportunity form. To add we again have to click on the + button
so that the custom page opens up.select the products and click add.Sometimes it works by adding once, sometimes thrice, sometimes 4 times, 7 times etc to get the products added. There is no problem with the code as the functionality is working but why this random
behavior. It should add on a single click everytime.
The issue occurs in every browser like IE,Firefox and Chrome. The custom page is a html page called productselector and it uses jason to post the data in Opportunity form. Please advise

    Hi Ahmad,
Thanks for the reply. The issue has been solved. The problem was with the refresh method which you partially suggested. The method was there but at the wrong place. I placed it below the loop so that the screen refresh does not take much time, hence the data
is getting fetched on time and there is no delay. Also there was some corrections made in the code in calculating the no of rows.

The sound on my computer sometimes works, sometimes not. I have an HP pavilion touchsmart laptop running on windows 8. I'm not really tech savy and hesitant to try troubleshooting too much on my own. Support and suggestions would be helpful. Not sure if it has to do with updates or why it sometimes works and other times not.

    Hi,
Personally I'd suggest running through the procedure I detailed in my initial post as it's fairly straight forward and in all likelyhood, you'll on need to remove the particular update ( KB2962407 ) and then hide it upon reboot.
At the end of the day, only you can decide what you feel comfortable with and if you're notebook is still under warranty, help from Staples or HP should be free of charge.

  • Wireless mouse pointer which does not move after boot *sometimes*

    Hi,
I have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo from Logitech (MK700 keyboard and MX705 mouse), which uses a USB receiver.
After booting, the mouse pointer sometimes is completely blocked, and I have to reboot to make it work. Sometimes I need to do this twice. I cannot reproduce it and this is not linked to the fact the mouse is active or on sleep mode. This seems to be a race condition, considering it is difficult to reproduce. Once the mouse pointer is working, there is no issue anymore during desktop use.
I compared lsmod when mouse pointer is working or not, and did not see any difference in the loaded modules.
This started to happen maybe 3 months ago. I have had this hardware for two years with no problem in the past. It is not a battery problem either.
    Has anyone an idea?

Ther is indeed a difference in evedev detection in Xorg logs when mouse is working or not working.

  • IDVD movie menus created sometimes...

I have prepared some video files in iMovie. In some of them I applied chapter markers. I bring them in iDVD and some of them when I insert them in the menu, create another menu specific for that video file, that has the options "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection". However, there is no specific pattern on how these extra menus are created... Some of the movies that have chapters, create the menu, and some don't... I really don't want this extra menu, I just want to click on the movie and play, whether it has chapters or not. I even tried from the DVD map option to find some solution, but the movies that have this issue are like broken down to smaller movies, one for each chapter... How can I avoid that?

    Then why add chapters?
    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!
