QT MPEG-2 Component  - Black Screen Video

Hello - I just purchased the latest MPEG-2 component $20 (version 6.4.1) for Quicktime 7.2 on my new Intel iMAC. When I try to play MPEG-2 files, only the audio plays and the video screen is black. My MPEG-2 files (from TiVO Decode Manager) all play fine with VLC on MAC or on PC machines. Any help appreciated.
George

Video Tracks:
224 MPEG-2, 352 × 480, 4:3, 23.976 fps, 9.00 Mbps, upper field first
Am wondering if QT may be confused about what to do with the resolution settings here -- 352x480 4:3 aspect ratio. Have you tried simply resetting the "Visual Settings" Properties window scale to 640x480? Have noted that QT Player has similar problems (i.e., black display) when scaling super HD photos. Let us know if this change allows the video to display correctly in both QT and MPEG Streamclip. (Players may be expecting the more standard CIF display dimensions.)

I upgraded some things and Quicktime stopped playing MPEG-2 movies (black screen)!
I need help, I was ending a project and now it just plays black!
    I have quicktime X.
    HELP! PLEASE!
    thank you.

Quicktime was working fine, I am not sure what Quicktime it was. I upgraded Java, I am not sure if I upgraded Quicktime. After that all quicktime movies with "MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode" codecs started playing black with audio in the background. iMovie was not used. Thank you, I am beyond desperate and I am starting to think no one can help me with this.
Then I am not sure how your created the MPEG-2/PCM MOV files. Files not imported via the MPEG-2 Import codec would normall remain in their long GOP compression format which it not edit compatible in QT based video editors. Those that are imported via the codec to make them edit-compatible then need the codec for proper playback in QT based players/editors.
Since you now say that "Quicktime is working fine," am I to assume that it is After Effects that is playing "black" screen videos and that the files play fine in the QT players? Since you also mention the files are time coded, am I to assume you used FCP or some other app to import the files (which may use the same sort of import workflow) or am I to assume it is the timecode data itself that you feel is now causing the problem. In either case, a Java update may have been a security update that is now causing your current issue by disallowing access to the required playback component for some unknown reason which Apple is unlikely to divulge if it refers to a software security risk.
If problem is general on your system, then do you have a short sample file that you can upload for testing purposes on my Snow Leopard system? At the very least, this may confirm if the problem is general to all updated platforms or local to your individual system and/or user account.

  • W520 random sleeping and black screens - videos of issue attached

Btw my mobo, cpu, memory i believe were all replaced last time i took it in with this issue...
    Still getting it consistantly:

    Black Screen:
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=7A3NqnC80iU
I thought before maybe its Bluetooth related as sometimes when screen would turn black and then come back, I would get a 'Bluetooth Device Not Discoverable'. So turned off Bluetooth in the BIOS, but still having display/sleep issues.
I removed hte Lenovo Power Manager/PM Driver, and turned off sleeping in the Windows power settings (in every setting including if Low Battery Action). Any ideas?
I just upgraded to a 3 year warranty (the more expensive one), should i just ask to replace mobo/cpu/memory again or will Lenovo actually test it for other issues?
    Thanks,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Well my issue wasn't an external monitor... it would goto sleep by itself when Im trying to write code/programming... then randomly wake and go back to sleep up constantly ruining workflow (or wait a few hours Im sleeping at odd times in the morning lol). or the monitor would turn black suddenly. I think I tested via external monitor but didn't matter what result was, the random sleeping issues indicated a larger issue.
It was a crimped connector the 1st time it went back to Lenovo. the past 4/5 times its gone back i think they are stumped. For me, Im honestly not sure... it might be the OS is on a mSATA instead of the regular hard drive and Windows doesnt know how to handle that hardware.
Their newer W540 manual seems to indicate do an OS on mSATA at your expense.
Do you have an mSATA OS? Anyway, thats a very small chance. not sure.

  • Black screen video

Lately, when attempting to play some videos purchased from iTunes (in Protected MPEG 4 format), neither iTunes nor Quicktime Player will play the videos. Double-clicking on the file in iTunes (or dragging the video from the Finder onto the QT icon) results in a black video screen, but no video or sound. Moving the scrubber does nothing. I tried restoring one of the files from a Time Machine backup volume, and repairing permissions: no dice. I also tried to log out of the iTunes account and log back in, but that didn't help, either. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Let’s check the Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering setting, try to change it for a test in Internet Explorer settings.
Also, reset Internet Explorer setting to see how it works.

  • HP Phoenix Envy 810-209 Black Screen Video Card Fail

So about a month ago I purchased this computer mentioned in the title. A week after purchasing it, I had a problem in which while 10 minutes into playing a game my computer screen would go black and kick into power saving mode, the audio from the game would still back available for a short period then would just start to buzz. I did a clean reboot of my computer and reinstalled everything. Again, after another few weeks the exact same problem would occurr. After doing some research I realized that this computer may infact be designed to fail. This PC comes with an Nvidia GeForce 760 video card which requires a minimum 500w power supply to use; however, the PC only comes with a 460 w power supply. Meaning this PC is designed to fail if I'm not mistaken. If anyone has had a similar issue and found a software work around that would be fantastic!
Although, I am under the impression I purchased a doomed PC from the get go.

HP has its video cards made to work with the power supply unit (PSU) installed.  Therefore, this should not be a problem.  They are not the same as the same series retail card.
What game are you playing?  Is it online?

  • Black screen videos on MacBook

I have a MacBook. I have OIS updated. I have Adobe Flash Player updated as well. When I load pages with videos, the videos (like in Yahoo news) is black, but you can hear the video. Can someone help me (in layman, non-computer-geek terms)? Or should I take my Mac into a store for assistance?
    Thanks

Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
    Not empty the Safari cache.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
    Now try a video.

  • Videos show up as black screen on burned blu-ray

I've just created a blu-ray project with about 20 timelines.  I created an 35GB ISO file which I burned to a dual layer BD-R disc.  Everything seems to work fine when I play it back on a blu-ray player except for 6 videos/timelines.  They play as a black screen and it seems to freeze up the player for a few seconds as I can't press the menu button to get back to the menu for a while.  All the files were created in Media Encoder with the exact same settings, so I don't think it's a compression settings problem.  All the files are different formats so I know it's not a format issue -- the black screen videos are 1080i, 1080p, and 480i, and the videos that work are 1080p, 1080i, 480i, and 720p.  I'm recompressing the offending videos at the moment hoping that something went wrong there, but between that, building the project, and burning, a new disc won't be ready for a few hours.  Does anyone have any advice in the meantime?
On a related note, I've recently started getting an internal error 11 on some of builds, but I don't remember what file it was having trouble finding.

The navigation is a simple list with buttons, each one linking to a single timeline.  All timelines except for one have only a single audio and video asset.  The videos themselves are an assortment of formats, 480i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, but the ones showing up as black are not a single format, so that can't be the issue.  All were compressed in Media Encoder with the default Blu-ray H264 setting (I also checked render maximum depth and use maximum render quailty on them all).  The original sources are quicktime reference files from Avid Media Composer.  Encore says that none of the files need to be transcoded for blu-ray, and they all play in Encore's preview.
I've been creating a BD disc image so far.  I did try to create a BD folder, but that was when I was getting the error 11.
    Thanks for any help...

  • [solved] Black screen when booting installation

The basic problem. I have a HD6870, my monitor is connected through DVI (& my second one through HDMI). No integrated graphics.
After I try to boot the x64_86 version, the screen goes black after 'booting kernel'.
    Things I've tried:
radeon.modeset=0 (gives drm:radeon_init [radeon]] *ERROR* no UMS suppot in radeon module)
    radeon.modeset=1 (black screen)
nomodeset (drm:radeon_init [radeon]] *ERROR* no UMS suppot in radeon module)
    disconnected second screen (black screen)
    video=SVIDEO-1:d (black screen)
i915.modeset=0 (I have no intel, but black screen)
    acpi=off (doesn't work either).
It is driving me crazy. Can someone help me?
    EDIT:
    Solved by upgrading BIOS

    1 videocard

I initially thought the same, tried with DVI, HDMI single and double monitor, but it didn't work.
    Lone_Wolf wrote:if still black screen with 1 monitor , try a different connection (your card has 4 it seems : hdmi, display port, dvi-d & dvi-i ).
    See above.
EDIT 2: putting HD in AHCI mode makes just the screen black. Backlight stays on. In Knoppix and Ubuntu it makes the kernel hang at booting kernel _

  • Iphoto 9.5.1 shows mpeg-4 files as a thumbnail, but will only show as a black screen when you double click on it, other video files are able to be played and are viewable.  Why?

iphoto 9.5.1 shows mpeg-4 video files as a thumbnail, but will not play the video.  When try to play video it shows as a black screen.  Other video files play ok- (mpeg, .mov).  What do I have to do to view them?   If I use imovie they will play, but I sometime like to view them in iphoto.  It worked before I upgraded to 9.5.1 and 19.9.2 of the operationg system.

Select the thrumbnail of one of the videos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option.  That should take you to the original mpeg4 file.
If it does then try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • First few moments of the video render as just a black screen - Premiere Elements 9

    Hello,
I'm putting together a short, 8-second demo clip of a particular moment of my project in Premiere Elements 9. The section involves two clips which were taken seperately, but are cut in half with the crop function so that they both play on the screen at once. There are also some position and brightness adjustments of one of the clips to ensure they match up.
However, I have begun seeing strange behaviour when I attempt to render the clip and as so far I have not been able to get a usable copy. When rendered as a .wmv, one of the two clips is inexplicably cropped from the bottom up to about a quarter of the height of the scene, despite not being so in the editor. Furthermore, when rendered as an MPEG, the format I would prefer the file to be in, although I do not get the first problem I get an issue where the first 20-23 frames of the video refuse to play in an external video player. I tried both windows media player and VLC. Instead, the section of the video appears as either a black screen, a black screen with a white line on it, or, if the video timeline is scrolled back to the start, the last frame viewed. The music clip which accompanies the video however still plays during this section, and the error is not seen at all in the editor. Oddly, if one of the rendered files is imported back into Premiere Elements 9, and played within the error, the 20-or-so frames will indeed play. It seems it is only the Premiere Elements editor that can play these frames.
I'm utterly at a loss here. I don't mind too much not being able to export as .wmv, as it is not my first choice, but if anyone could help me with the MPEG rendering I would be very grateful.
The source files are AVCHD (.mts) files, at a resolution of 1440x1080. There is only one "clip change" at the point where the video becomes viewable again, but this is merely where I have split the same clip to perform a brightness change, as I have many times in the video elsewhere.
    Thank you for any help,
    Black.

Here's a screencap of my interface, although I blurred out the video preview section (it doesn't contain anything relevant anyway).
I would like to avoid posting a copy of the video if I can help it - I doubt my actors would be too pleased with me posting them around the internet.
As for the project settings, when I first imported the clips Elements informed me that my project preset was incorrect for the clips and automatically picked one to fit them, so I'm sure that that's all set up fine. All the footage is from the same camcorder, except for a splash screen image, of the correct resolution, which flashes up at the end.
I have used assets of the same format previously and with no isses.

  • Black screen when opening MJPG video in AE

Im getting a black screen when i open an avi video (mjpg codec) in after effects.
Video works fine in programs like windows media player and VLC
Also other videos work fine in AE, like H264 and FPS1 codecs (dunno what FPS1 is but i have a video and it says FPS1 is codec and it works)
oh yeah and im using AE CS5.5

Read my post again - AE doesn't handle DirectDraw CoDecs that require DirectX based hardware acceleration. And playclaw is one such CoDec. Whether or not it plays elsewhere is utterly irrelevant at this point. You need to convert it to something AE can use, that is a bog standard legacy AVI that uses the old GDI mode, or at least provides a playback component for that. Anything from an uncompressed AVI file to HuffYUV to an image sequence or even a Quicktime movie, just not what you have currently.

  • Exporting "Youtube HD" Preset results in no video just black screen

    Hello,
I am a new user to Premiere CS5.  I made a short video and would like to put it online in HD for youtube and vimeo.  I shot the footage using a Canon DSLR t2i in HD at 24fps.
I am trying to export it in order to upload it to youtube and I tried to the preset under H.264 that is called Youtube HD.  When it finished I went to watch the video and it was just a black screen but the audio worked fine.  The Export video box is checked so it is not that.
I exported using Quicktime Format but the quality was a little worse.  I am now trying HDTV format to see how that turns out.
Is there something I can do to make the Youtube HD preset work correctly?  I imagine that's the best option for uploading to youtube.
    Thanks!

since vlc-2.2.0-1 package version I notice a weird bug on playback with h264 videos files :
    - sometimes the screen is black in the GUI of vlc when I open h264 video file, but when I seek/move inside the file the bug is gone, no black screen
    - the gamma setting doesn't work, no effect
it's a random bug, but it's easy to trigger the bug,
if I downgrade to vlc-2.1.5-5 then there is no bug,
I use archlinux 64 bits, radeon driver ( ati radeon HD4650 PCie )

do any of you can help in this?
First of all, AVI is a file container—not a compression format. Since you indicate, the file opens/plays in VLC, your first step is to determine the video codec that is giving you problems. Do this by opening the file in VLC and checking the media information and expanding the video stream. If the codec component is one commonly available for use on the Mac, then you can install it for use by QT. If not, you can try transcoding the video using VLC itself. If this fails, i.e., the output is visible but plays as though the frames had been re-ordered, as a last resort I would try transcoding the file using HandBrake.
