QT player can't start

Question

Every time I start QickTime player I get the error code “The procedure entry point CFUniCharGetNumberOfPlanesForUnicodePropertyData could not be located in the dynamic link library QTCF.dll”
I have to open Task Manager, kill the Quicktime process and then I can remove this error alert.
That's my problem.
Status: iTunes seems to work fine. Real Player and other applications relying on QuickTime Player (for display of .mov, .mp4 and .jpeg) are broken (cause the same error message mostly, but DIVX-player says that QuickTime is not installed on my system). iTunes plays my .movs fine. Web streamed QuickTime movies play fine
I have spent two days reading all the postings here. I have NO Other versions of QTCF.dll on my system (other than some stored in my document folder as my tools for attempts to revert to older versions). I DO have Real player, which is just as broken when attempting to play .mov and .mp4 files, BUT can be fixed by inserting an OLDER version of QTCF.dll from September 2009 into the Program Files/Real Player directory.
Moving that same old QTCF.dll into the QuickTime folder, breaks iTunes, BUT allows QuickTime player to come further up in the starting, in that there's no error message, but the QuickTime window is NOT showing even though the taskbar say that a QuickTime window is open. So, it's a display issue?
Older versions of QuickTime player were NOT compatible with Windows Aero graphics (was that ever mentioned anywhere?), reverting the whole PC to 16-bit graphics. That is perhaps still the issue? In my current situation, I am no longer bringing QuickTime player back to life by reverting to 16 bit graphics and turning off Aero, so it's not entirely THAT (but that issue was another several days of frustration before with finding a fix). Looking inside the QTCF.dll the required procedure IS listed inside. The QTCF file has been repaired several times.
Is there a way to see which QTCF file QuickTime Player is referring to? Is there a way to force it to use the one in QuickTime/QTSys folder (if it's for some reason pointing elsewhere)? It's still mysterious because, as I say there are no other instances on my PC. In the old days there was a PATH that was set to tell where to look for DLLs. Can that be done/checked here?
This has driven me crazy for days, albeit I seem to have found workarounds for most of the issues. You seem to have made major changes to QUickTime so third party aplicatiions built on it seem to break after the latest update (from about January 2010?). Could you guys talk to Real about updating their QT interfaces?

if you just want to play back the file, use VLC player, its my default video player :   http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
if you want to edit or must have it play in QT player you will need to use streamclip to encode  - DV would be the quickest but depends what the end product is for - or H264 perhaps - ?
