QT Player on Vista gives error # -2048

Hi everyone,
I keep getting the above error while opening some of the QT movies I have on my PC. Sometimes Windows even crashes. The only thing I can read from that is a hexadecimal code 0x00000602.
Does the error number or the hex number mean anything to anyone? Is there something in those movies that I can correct? If so, then how?
TIA and kind regards,
MrVulcan

Solved problem. Used Windows Installer Cleaner and removed all references to QT in Registry. No help. Removed cookies. Solved problem. I had tried to re-install 7.1.5 on my computer since 7.2 wouldn't install. Kept getting error that newer version was installed (none installed) so couldn't restore 7.1.5. Deleted cookies and 7.2 download worked. QT must put a cookie on your computer listing downloaded versions.

Try downloading the installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.

• Flash Player 10 Security - Error 2048

Hello all, I'm running in to an issue with Flash Player 10
and I can't seem to figure it out. I am using an HTTP server on an
embedded device to serve SWF files which in turn connect back to
the device (and other devices) for XML data. The connections are
made back to
http://deviceip/folder - I have
no way to access the root folder of the server. This folder
contains no crossdomain.xml file. With FP9 I was intercepting HTTP
requests to
http://deviceip/folder/crossdomain.xml
and outputting this:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "
http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="*" />
</cross-domain-policy>
The debugger says that this file is depreciated but
everything seemed to work fine on FP9. After upgrading to FP10 I
started getting the Security Error #2048. From what I can
understand at
http://www.adobe.com/go/strict_policy_files
the only fix for error 2048 is to specify a strict policy file that
has the meta-policy of "all" at the root of the domain. I have no
access to the root so this presents a problem.
I did see that you can send some HTTP header information
instead of using a crossdomain.xml file, but I couldn't tell where
the FP is looking for that information. I can modify headers on
responses
http://deviceip/folder but not on
the response from
http://deviceip/ I assumed that is
where the headers are checked which leaves me in the same boat.
I'm hoping someone has a creative idea for me to try.
Thanks!

Nope, never have found a solution - the fact that someone
actually replied has taken me off guard :) Maybe someone can shed
some light on the issue - but don't hold your breath :)

• .mov created with 7.1 on a mac gives a -2048 error in Quicktime 7.1on a PC

Anyone know why a .mov file created on a mac gives a -2048 error in Quicktime on a PC? Both computers have the latest version of Quicktime and OS.
Help?

When I "get info" on a Mac the format is DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720x480, Millions, DV, Stereo, 48Khz, 30fps. It's a 455MB file captured to a .mov using Sorenson Squeeze. I then copy it to a FAT32 hard drive and transfer it to a PC (WinXP). I've got Quicktime 7.1 installed on both machines. I thought it might be the FAT32 hard drive but it isn't because I burnt a data dvd from the Mac and then dragged the files onto the PC from the DVD. Same issue. -2048. I don't think I am creating problems in the transfer...
I've read some of the post and I tried renaming the file .wmv and the video plays fine in windows media, but the audio is crackling.
I can't import into any PC video program, Sorenson, Vegas they all give me unsupported file type errors.
Thanks for your help.

• Error 2048 not a movie file

QT 7 pro was working fine at first.Now when I try to play a video file I get "error 2048 not a movie file. The file plays fine in another player. Also QT will play a QT movie but not a file. I have QT installed on two computers with the exact same problem on both. please help.

Yes the format of the files is windows media video files. They play successfully on real player and on VLC media player.
They were also playing on itunes,but now they won't play on QT or itunes. By play a movie I mean the movie was downloaded as a QT movie. The desktop icon says QTmovie. The files That give the 2048 error have real player on the desktop icon.I have uninstalled and reinstalled, even disabling norton before reinstalling still error 2048 on QT. P.S. Itunes and QT were downloaded as a bundle, whatever the problem is is affecting itunes because now when i add files to library they don't show up.

• Dreaded Error #2048

Problem: I have created a SWF file with Engage 2008 that runs fine when launched on the hosting web server, but it gives an Error #2048 when opened in a web browser from a client machine on the same domain.
Below is the crossdomain.xml file that I have placed in both the web site's home directory and the web server's root directory (C:\).
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="*" secure="false" />
</cross-domain-policy>
On the web server:
- The .htm and .swf and crossdomain.xml files are located in the C:\Websites\Dashboards directory. A share has been created <servername>\Websites that points to C:\Websites. Everyone has read access.
- The .xls file from which the .swf file pulls its data is located in the C:\Dashboards directory. A share ahs been created <servername>\Dashboards that points to C:\Dashboards. Everyone has read access.
On the client machines:
- I have tried both Flash versions 9.0.124 and 10.0.12.36.
- In the Adobe Flash Player Security Settings console, I have given "Always Allow" permissions to the following:
<servername>\Websites
<servername>\Dashboards
<servername>\c$\Websites
<servername>\c$\Dashboards
<servername>\c$
<servername>\c$\Websites\Dashboards\<filename>.swf
<servername>\Websites\Dashboards\<filename>.swf
If I copy the .swf file locally to one of the client machines and set the Adobe security to "Always Allow" the file, it works fine. So I'm confident it's a security issue; I'm just lost as to what I'm missing. Suggestions?

I'm just going to keep rambling here until I figure this out.
I installed the debugger version of Flash, and it ellaborates on the error as
"Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://<servername>/<Flash file>.swf cannot load data from file://<servername>/Dashboards/<XML data file>.xml"
It seems odd to me that the flash file can access the XML data as long as it bypasses IIS (by my launching the .htm file directly). I'll try moving all of my files into the same directory to see if that makes any difference.

• Adobe Flash Player failed to initalize error

Hello there - I'm so hoping someone can help me out. I am trying to download Adobe flash player and get an error message - "failed to initialize". I've tried deleting my old file and still no luck. I also tried to save it and then go to windows explorer to run the program but can't find it, even when I do a search. The funny thing is when I go into unintall programs, there's an incon for it. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone help me out? I would really love to watch videos on youtube. :-) I'm running windows vista and using windows explorer 9. Thanks so much! JodiJ.

Came across this problem a few times...
Did you try deleting the actual files from the install directory manually? I think they are located in c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
Also came across this... maybe helpful...
I don't know what web browsers you use, so my instructions are for both browser types (Internet Explorer, and other browsers like Firefox).
go to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/889580
download the installer for Internet Explorer and save it to disk;
if you use other browsers, then also download the other installer and save it to disk;
close all browser windows, then use Windows Explorer to run the installers you downloaded (install_flash_player_10_active_x.exe and possibly install_flash_player_10.exe).
If you still get errors
please give the exact error message you are getting
list (copy & paste) the contents of the FlashInstall.log file in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

• Playing mp4 audio gives error message "Video can't be played because the file is corrupt"

Playing a particular mp4 audio file directly from a website link gives error message "Video can't be played because the file is corrupt". However other mp4 audio files from this same website do work correctly. What can I do to get all the the mp4 audio files to play directly from the same website? I must have the correct plugins, etc. since the other files play. This file is not playing from YouTube, is it on the website.
Thank you for your help.

What is the link to the site and file in question?
MP4 files should be handled by Firefox itself, not a plug-in.
# Click the ≡ Menu Button and choose Add-ons.
# Click Plugins.
# Set every plug-in to "Never Activate".
# Try loading the file again. Is there any difference?
You have two versions of Flash Player installed. Perform a clean installation of Flash Player as follows.

• Quicktime error 2048

I am having issues with trying to get MP4 files imported into Itunes.
After several attempts I did some experimenting.
I converted a DVD in to MP4 format and it will not load.
The complete DVD movie convetted to MP4 is 2.2gb in size.
This movie will not load into Itunes and also will not play with quicktime. quicktime gives a 2048 error this is not a movie format.
Took the same movie and made the file smaller, new file is 2.0gb and it will load and play in both quicktime and itunes.
Dont know if there is a file size limitation for Itunes and Quicktime.
Hope someone can come up with a solution for the 2048 error
Larry
Windows XP

Since I posted this thread, I have discovered some things that might cause the error 2048.
As I memtioned in my first post the error I was getting was for a file that was 2.2gb in size. When I reduced the file size to 2.04gb the error went away. I also have converted 5 other DVD files to MP4 with out the error comming back again.
The 5 other files were less than 2.0gb in size. All files work fine in quicktime and Itunes and on my Ipod.
One other thing that I did was to take the 2.2gb file and split it in half and transfer it to my Itunes. This also worked as I could play the first half and then take a short intermission and play the second half.
It is my opion that Itunes and quicktime may have issues with files over 2.2gb in size.
Just my $.02 worth.

• Cannot open corrupted .mov file - error 2048 unsupported format

Hi all,
I have an important corrupted video file and I have tried every way I can think of to open it, but to no avail...
When I open it with Quicktime, an "error 2048 unsupported format" shows up, even though other videos I took are fine.
I can't open this video with ANY softwares including VLC and friends (trust me, I tried LOADS of them)..
After doing MUCH research I understand that either the header/closing part of the file is messed up.
Is anyone able to teach me how to fix those parts?
I'm really at the end of my wits and I'm a just beginner to hex-editing @.@ Better still, if you are able to take a look at this video for me...
I'll be very glad if anyone can help me out with this as I really wish to recover the video, this is for an important friend, thanks in advance!
P.s. the video is about 120mb in size

Hi
Im using the tool called SUPER.
Its free and you can convert any file format to any other file format
Maybe it would be possible to convert his faulty file to another format and ten you could try to open it again using VLC player or other application.

• HT1536 ERROR 2048

i try to play some videos with QT end see a mesage : error 2048 could;n play this file mod.oo1. my camera is JVC and before 1 year the QT is wos ok.
thanks

Older JVC cameras recorded in MPEG-2 format (.mod files) and QuickTime for Windows can't play them without additional software support (costs about $20).
Try playing them with the free VLC player, instead.
