QT Plug-Ins (XviD Codec 1.0) Trying to play a quicktime movie with sound?

I have a movie I downloaded and cannot hear anything? I got a drop down pane telling me I needed a plug in so I downloaded "XviD" I read the read me file and placed the component in the proper place, I think Library/QuickTime and movie still does not play. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. please help and thanks in advance.

Firstly, ~/Library/quicktime may be case sensitive. (where ~ is your user's directory)
I downloaded XviD components from here http://n.ethz.ch/student/naegelic/download/ , along with the preferences app (same download).

Quicktime has it's limitations and can't, natively, play certain video formats.
Try VLC. It should be able to play anything you throw at it.

Restart your phone,hold the home button and the off button down till the apple symbol comes up. If that doesnt fix it , you need to do a restore in itunes by connecting to itunes , click on your phones name to the left, then click restore in the center of the screen and restore from backup.

What exactly are you trying to do? It would seem that you are trying to redeem a digital copy of a movie you purchased on a DVD or Blu-Ray disk. Is that correct? What studio site is providing this "free movie"? (post the URL to this download page if you can).

Hey. I am trying to play Unreal Tournament online with some friends, but I have problems both hosting and joining in games. I have a dsl and wireless router (WRT54G) setup. I have heard that I should port foward. I tried this but no luck (maybe I didn't do it right). The problem is, with dial-up, all I had to do was enter the host IP and I was able to join. With this current setup, it just never connects...Please help, I've tried alot of stuff and just don't have any more ideas about now....Thanks.

Well linksys router doesn't work with the Dial-up connection all you need to do is use the local area network connection & it will definately work!!

Xvid codec for Mac OS 10.3.9 (Quicktime 7.3.1)

Get the dvix player; the codec which comes with it makes these films work fine on QuickTime.

Trying to import a Quicktime movie and get error message

After exporting from FCP, using QuickTime settings, when I try to import into DVD Studio Pro 3, I get a message saying wrong format.
It says "could not import one file. Incompatible format".
(there's only one file I'm trying to import.
Any advice would be helpful.

When you export from FCP take care of selecting QuickTime Movie self contained with same settings that your timeline (ussually the default settings in the export window).
Besides that my advice is you encode your video to MPEG2 and your audio to Dolby AC3 before importing in DVDSP. DVDSP will leave audio uncompressed what can give you playback issues in some players because it take too much of your bitrate.
In DVDSP3 you must use A.Pack for the AC3 encoding. Try this tutorial about Encoding AC3 with A.Pack (from KenStone site).

AARP games requires plug-ins but they will not install to play games

Every time I go on the AARP games site (http://games.aarp.org), it notes that my plugins need to be updated. I agree and go thru all the procedures of installing the plugins. They download but the steps of installing the plugins never become active. So where did the files go and can they be installed manually? Also the plugin for QuickTime says it is for Windows, but the download is for the MAC. Anyway, I really miss playing the AARP games, but how do I get them to open. The site opens, the games come up, I press play and nothing happens.

Perhaps this will help with your problem. I assume that you connected your interface to USB input in your computer. Now, if the connection is correct and this interface is compatible with your computer, your computer will recognize it and accept it so to speak. In my case, when I connected APOGEE duet interface for the first time to my computer, the message window appeared on the screen asking if I want to use this device as input and output. But even though I clicked on "yes", I still had to do necessary adjustment in GarageBand (GB). If after connecting your device there isn't any message on the screen of your computer, go to System Preferences on the dock, open it, click on Speaker (sound) icon and see if the name of your device is there. If everything is OK, it should be there under input and output. Assuming that it's there, open GB, choose any project that you already have, if you don't have anything yet, create a new one. You don't have to record anything at this time. So after you open any project, click on GarageBand on menu bar in upper left corner of your screen, then click on Preferences, then on Audio/MIDI right after General. When you open Audio/MIDI you'll see two "windows", one for audio output, other for audio input. When you click on these little black arrows in both "windows" you should see your interface listed there, if it's there, choose it as input and output. Now you're set and ready to go. If you have MIDI device connected to your computer it'll also show there. For example, 0 MIDI Input(s) detected if you don't have any devices connected, or 1, or 2 MIDI Input(s) detected and so on. Trying to format my QT movie with "apple photo" JPG using cross fade

I know how to make an image sequence, but not with cross fades, and my file size is still a bit big.

Hiding the controller and creating a looping file are done with the html code:
controller="false" loop="true" (these tags are used in "embedded" QuickTime files). "Object" tags are used for Internet Explorer but the syntax is similar. Modern Web pages use javascript code for QuickTime files and combine both object/embed and the QT_WriteOBJECT code.
To create the file I linked above I did these steps:
"Borrowed" your source file (via QuickTime Player Pro).
Exported the six image files from that source (via QuickTime Player Pro).
Converted (reduced file size in the images) using GraphicConverter ($35).
Added your images to 5 seconds of audio (to give them "time"). This is different than converting to "video" as the single image file size is the same for the duration. I then "extracted" the new video track and saved as .mov format (Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro).
I used samplemakeeffectmovie (not a typo) to "combine" two of these 5 second videos to add the "cross fade" effect. This is a developer PPC app I found years ago from Apple. 1998 and it still works on my Intel machine. It allows you to add transitions, compositors and effects (thousands of user created combinations) to two video files.
Once I created the six "videos" I joined them together (via QuickTime Player Pro) to make a single file (15 seconds in duration). I then added a royalty free audio track (converted from AIFF to AAC via QuickTime Player Pro) by adding the total .mov file (scaled) to the 30 second audio track. This brought the final "video" close to 30 frames per second (source was 15 fps).
What I proved is that QuickTime Player Pro can be an "authoring" application. I even wrote a book (PDF) that explains some of its possibilities.
Since I still don't own a "video" camera I've created my "movies" using still image files and QuickTime Player Pro. A few examples:

Trying to Export to Quicktime Movie.

I have tried several times to export to Quicktime but nothing

AVI is just a container ... specifically, which codec are you using when exporting? And why export to AVI?
QuickTime gives me the option to save the video straight from the web, but as soon as I turn off my AirPort it tells me that I need internet to continue watching the movie
That usually means that your system doesn't have the codec installed needed to view the video, but your web browser is using a plugin that does. What format are the web videos? Flash?

Quicktime Mov with H264 codec keeps crashing.

Hi all, i keep getting an buffer overflow when viewing several mov, h264 videos.
The problem seams to be an memcpy witch is made by quicktimeh264.scaler.
Any way to fix this?

I've tryed updating everything(Quicktime, OS), but still the problem remains.
I can use windows + vlc to view the files without any crash...

Almost every file created by ffmpeg in h264, makes quicktime component h264 scaler crash after about 30 minutes of playing / editing.
Not sure i understand your solution, there seams to be an exploitable bug in quicktime, witch crashes any app that uses quicktime for playback.
Mpegstream will play the file almost for sure, but this doesn't fix the quicktime bug.

Error message when trying to play iTunes purchased movies

Hi,
I have purchased a TV show from iTunes using my Apple TV 3rd generation and whenever I attempt to view the purchased item a message appears on the TV saying "An error occurred loading this content. Please try again later".
I have tried power cycling, restarting the router, resetting and restoring, without any success.
Any ideas?

After fiddling around with it, I have managed to fix this by adjusting the Internet speed preferences in the Apple TV settings menu.
Hope this helps someone else with the same problem.
