QT Pro Key Is Ignored

I have QT 7.1 installed on my PC. I just purchased the upgrade to Pro and followed the instructions for entering the key. After entering my registered name and registration code text is displayed below the key that says ‘QuickTime 7 Pro’ so I assume it recognizes it as a valid key. I’ve tried clicking Apply then OK and just OK. I close QT, have even rebooted, but opening QT shows the PRO features greyed out and the fields are blank in the registration tab.
I’ve tried typing the key as well as copy / paste. I’ve tried to enter the key via the preferences menu and also tried the Control Panel QT Console. None of these work.
Can I enter this registration key directly into the registry?
Any other ideas how to fix this?

hmmmm. i had a check through the Pro FAQ, but there wasn't much relevant info there:
Quicktime Pro versions 6 and 7 FAQ
... but just at least to get the possibility off the table: which version of the Key did you buy? was it the Windows one?

  • QuickTime 7 Pro Key Does Not Work

Apple Store sent me a QT Pro "key" and link to on-line instructions. Nothing works. My System Preferences QuickTime dialog/panel does not have an OK button (or a Register button). It's a dead-end dialog. Email reply to my plea for help from Apple Support said I cannot use the QT 7 Pro key on a Mac with OS X 10.3.9 and QuickTime 7.0.3. Said to reinstall 7.0.1 (downgrading from 7.0.3), which I have done, to no avail. Next, I'm supposed to reinstall QuickTime 6.... MEANWHILE, on an Apple QuickTime Web page, it says that QuickTime 7 Pro REQUIRES QuickTime 7. The Apple Support email also suggested that I cannot use QT 7 Pro unless I have OS X Tiger. The email seems fat fetched, but the on-line info doesn't help either. What do I have to do to get QuickTime 7 Pro running? I've paid in full for the privilege. Thanks.

I appreciate your taking time to reply. Unfortunately, the circumstance you describe does not work on my system, and no one can tell me why or what to do to fix it. Before I went to the Apple online store to buy QuickTime Pro, I already had QT 7.0.3 on my Mac OS X, 10.3.9, system. I paid for QT 7 Pro and got the "key"/registration email from Apple. The email included a link to online installation instructions which do, in fact, tell me to click OK in the System Preferences QuickTime panel (though there is no OK button). I tried again, using your advice, and simply quit System Preferences. Still no QT Pro. When I do a find, Sherlock returns 71 items whose names contain "quicktime." Only one is an application, QuickTime Player v. 7.0.1, No QuickTime Pro. [FYI, though I had QT 7.0.3 on my Mac, the Apple support email told me to "reinstall" 7.0.1, which I did. They actually wanted me to reinstall/downgrade to QuickTime version 6, but I have not done that.] My reason for wanting QuickTime Pro to work is so I can convert AIFF audio files to MP3 audio files. QuickTime Player won't do it for me and told me to get Pro. Thanks, --CSZ

  • HT3678 I find that even with my Pro key someof the functions are no longer available. Such as looping movies or clips.

I recently upgraded to Lion but find that my Quicktime Pro key doesn't free up all the function that I originally had.
I can't loop clips the function is greyed out.
Anyone else find this or is there an update toreturn this to what I paid for.

"Loop"  in Quicktime Pro 7.6.6  is still broken running in Mac OS 10.7.4 .
Apple, please fix this !  Some of us use Quicktime PRO in our PROFESSIONAL jobs , y'know what I mean?  This isn't a hobby or something that can wait months and months to fix.

  • Will QT Pro Key 7.0.2 work with QT 7.0.3?

I understand QT 5 or QT 6 Pro Keys will not work with QT 7.0.3. But will QT 7 or QT 7.0.2 Pro Key work with QT 7.0.3? I just bought mine a short while ago.
I think it should, but I'm afraid it will lock me out. Any definitive answer on this?
    Thanks

Your Quicktime Pro 7 key will work just fine with 7.0.3.

Help! My MacBook Pro keys Q-O aren't not working. I've tried doing a Pram restart, but it won't work as keys P & R aren't working, and I can't login as my password contains broken keys. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

    Try a SMC reset;
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    Check these as well

  • QT Pro key - Migrating from PB to MBP

Hello there, I just got a MacBook Pro and transfered (just about everything transferable) from my old PB using the Migration Assistant. I can see that my QT Pro key was transfered over with the migration process that was part of the original configuration in the MBP. The question is: If I decided to format the MBP's HD and reinstall the OSX, could I just reenter the Pro Key that I purchased with my PB and will it work? If not, then how else can I do it (obviously not meaning that I have to buy a new key)?
I suppose that this must be possible since the migration utilily actually migrates the Pro key itself.
    Thanks in advance.
    George...

Yes, you would be able to open the QT Preferences, choose the Registration pane, and the enter your registration name and the Pro Key you received from Apple. It is best to do it by using copy and paste from the email confirmation to assure you get the exact key strokes needed.

  • Upgrade path to 8.1 pro using windows 8 pro keys

    Hi,
I have a windows 8 pro upgrade license which I bought when windows 8 was launched and have been unable to use it on my existing computer. I would like to use this license on a new computer and want to know what is the correct version of Windows Complete
    Install to buy.
One option for me is to buy Windows 7 Home complete install then upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and eventually to Windows 8.1 Pro through the windows store. This is too tedious instead can I buy Windows 8.1 Home and use the Windows 8 Pro keys to upgrade it
    to Windows 8.1 Pro directly?
Please advise on the correct version of complete Windows to be bought so I can take advantage of my Windows 8 Pro license.
    Best regards,
    Jai

    Hi Jai
I suggest you to follow upgrade path using your Window 8 pro upgrade license since you already bought it
And I suggest also check whether this PC ready to upgrade to Windows 8.1, you can check using upgrade assistance to check if there is compatibility SW or device before you upgrade
There is 2 method for upgrade to Windows 8.1
    1. buy upgrade key
    2. buy DVD
Regarding upgrade key or buy the DVD, I suggest contact retailer or Microsoft sales

  • Need new pro key to update from 7.0.4 to 7.1.6?

    Greetings,
Have QT Pro v7.0.4 installed. Would like to update to v7.1.6 without having to buy a new key for QTPro. Intuition says I should be able to do this, but conflicting info from Apple makes me question my intuition and hesitate to install v7.1.6.
    - Apple site says this v7.1.6 update is recommended for all v7 users.
    - legal agreement text at beginning of v7.1.6 installer says that continuing installation will require purchase of new key for pro users.
    - QT "help->about" box says I am using v7.0.4, but "help->update" says "your quicktime software is up to date", even though the Apple site says there is a v7.1.6 available.
Can I update from v7.0.4 to v7.1.6 without having to purchase a new key to retain Pro level? If so, is running the v7.1.6 installer downloaded from the main Apple site the appropriate way to do this?
I'd rather be more sure of the answer before any trial and error experiment that obliterates my existing Pro key.
    Thanks

If you were going from QT6 to QT7 you would need to purchase a new QT pro key. In other words when Apple releases a new version of QT a new key is required. QT7.0.4 to 7.1.6 is just a update of the exsisting version. So your QT7 key is good untill the release of QT8.
I would open the QuickTime control panel click on the Update tab then click on the Update... button for the QT7.1.6.200 update, your key should remain intact. But it wouldn't hurt to write down the registration info anyway.
If you want to put a check in the box-Check for updates automatically-Apple will let you know when there is a new one.

  • QT Pro key is invalid after reinstall

I had to reinstall my OS and all of my software and now my QT Pro Key that I purchased earlier this year is not valid after the reinstall of QT 7.  Any ideas why?  Apple won't help at all.  I would have to pay $50 for technical support, which is dumb b/c a new key is $30.

Make sure you're entering in _both_ the user name and key code _exactly_ as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
    Hope this helps.

  • Quicktime player has stopped working in Vista after registering Pro key

I have installed QT player as part of the itunes QT package today and it appeared to work untill I registered it with my pro key which also enabled the additional function, but when i closed and restarted I get message "Quicktime player has stopped working...etc" and it never opens. I have repaired, reinstalled QT, reinstalled QT and itunes, all to no effect. I then restored to before QT and i tunes installation then reinstalled QT and itunes and it works again !, but only until I enter pro key and exit and restart. There is also an issue with the addin in internet explorer which also does not work, but generates a string of error messages when i try to play movies. Oddly enough, if I run QT as administrator it works, and if it seems the QT browser addin works in Firefox (when run off memory stick)
I'm completly confused and frustrated; anyone any ideas please, I'm running Vista SP1 on Dell XPS420 Quad core 2.4 Gig 4MB RAM

Have looked in this a little further and the problem may not be todo with the Pro registration as having restored to a point before QT installation several times I now find that when reinstalled QT works the first time you run it but once closed it will not reopen. However if I run as administrator it runs OK, also if i turn off User Account Control it works OK; this true for the Internet Explorer addin as well as QT player and even the picture viewer. The picture viewer actually reports an error "Quicktime has failed to intialize Error # - 2095". One final observation is that the QT addin works OK without user account control switched off in Firefox 3 b5.
Something is amiss I suspect with permissions/security and i would rather not operate with User Account Control off.
Much appreciate anyones advise on this it is driving me mad

Please know that the 8.1 pro is just for Windows 7 upgrade.
Since you have Windows 8.1 on you computer, you need the Pro pack key to upgrade.

  • Quicktime Pro Key pooched on 7.6.4 install.

Here is the latest on an issue I've seen documented here. Upon installing 7.6.4 (in the middle of a laboratory session!) Quicktime ceased functioning "normally." Upon launch of Quicktime or any ".mov," the player window will appear for a fraction of a second and then close to the Windows Task Bar never to be accessible again. The original problem, in my case, was preceded by a test of converting mp4 video to 3pg utilizing Quicktime Pro. All the source material involved is my own by copyright. All the software on my laptop licensed.
So I uninstalled Quicktime 7.6.4 and reinstalled. There had been some collateral issues as I also use Quicktime plug in processes in Sony Vegas Pro Software. After a scandisk, (fixdisk), defrag etc. Quicktime 7.6.4 did start properly. So I opened the window to enter my Quicktime Pro Key and....
A Quicktime window appears for a fraction of a second then closes to the Window's Task Bar never to be accessible again. It appears that Quicktime users (for Windows) are experiencing some problems with this release but I'm really wondering how the update would pooch the Pro Key. I feel that it is required to wait for another release before I would purchase another Quicktime Pro Key. Which I actually do require professionally.

The update to QT 7.6.4 would have no effect on the pro key it doesn't have to be re-entered after the update. Where you removed and re-installed QT could be the reason, my guess is something to do with administrator accounts, like which one originally installed QT?
    Is, com.apple.QuickTime plist on the computer? C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\QuickTime\com.apple.QuickTime plist
If com.apple.QuickTime plist is on the computer, open it. You may need Note Pad to open it. If the pro key is not showing in there then QT pro is not registered in the QT control panel

  • Bought PRO key Dec 29th For 7.0.3. Why Must I Spend Another Fee for 7.0.4?!

Ach! Why is Apple charging AGAIN for the PRO upgrade to 7.0.4? I barely just bought the key for 7.0.3. This could get real expensive. Are we to pay now for EVERY upgrade in QT? It just doesn't seem fair, and doesn't seem to make sense. Can someone explain what is going on? If you've very recently bought a Pro key, shouldn't that be good for a while?
    Thanks a lot . . . .

Thank you one and all! What a simple solution. I have (a) cooled down and (b) seen the light. THIS makes sense. I wish the updater or site could have made a simple mention to this effect. Thank heavens for the discussions!

  • Locate QT PRO key file. Want to Delete QT7 Key and instate 6 key

Ok, I can't find how to do this.
I want to delete the registration file that I suspect QT7 installed and overwrote that of QT6 PRO. How do I find it
I was able to install QT7 and QT6 (for which I have a PRO key) in 2 differnt locations and they both run alonside. Howeverm when i want to register the QT6 PRO key it states that I have an invalid key. So I believe that QT7 overwrote the QT6 key file and now QT6 can't find it. I want to re insert the QT6 key file. So, how do I find it.
I remember having to do this before, but can't remember the file name.

ok, deleting the QT7 key file doesn't help.
How about QT6, where does it keep it's key file?
To run 2 QTs on one OS, I installed QT6, moved the installation folder to another location (in my case another drive). I set the folder as READ ONLY (or else QT7 removes it), then installed QT7. I can now run both, but can't register QT6 PRO.

  • Quicktime Pro key

I bought Quicktime Pro online and have recieved three emails from apple but none display what I paid for, A QUICKTIME KEY.
I have looked at my account online and there is no key associated with my order. I have also called apple support for quicktime and all I get is a recording that tells me to go online then hangs up on me.
Where can I get my quicktime pro key?

Did you ever resolve this issue? If so can you let me know how?
I just purchased a key yesterday (1/12/06) and have encountered the SAME difficulties that you've described. After countless minutes on hold with both the Apple Store and Tech Support and being told that the only support offered for QT (Pro or otherwise) is online (no person at Apple could tell me what my ruddy key is!!!), I'm simply waiting for some kind of response to the message I sent through the form on <http://www.apple.com/support/store/quicktime.html>.
