QT Pro Key - per user or per machine?

I bought QT Pro for my Mac Mini. I also want to register QT Pro on my Windows machine. Do I have to buy Pro again or how can I get a Windows key?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

No. After buying it for the Mini, it didn't work well, and I downloaded MPEG Streamclip and use it instead. I was on the Windows box today and wanted to save a movie without sifting through source, so I tried registering the Windows copy of QT with my Mac key, and it didn't work. I sifted source..

  • Change CAL to per user from per unit

    Hello!
I bought per user CALS (has been verified) but I have been using per unit because the per user cal didn't update the license for the users. I don't understand why it works perfectly with per unit (group policy edited) but not per user? The system has been
online for one and half year now so it wasnt until know I noticed the problem because to many computers had been assigned a license and even when I revoke one of them I wont be able to connect another computer until december 10 so thats a big problem. I did
change to per user but it wont connect with the computer due to many licenses in use. Do I need to restart the server when I change to per user in group policy? And why is the cals working with per unit fine when I bought per user cal?

    Hi,
     >>don't understand why it works perfectly with per unit (group policy edited) but not per user?
Based on the description, I assume we are using group policy to manage Remote Desktop license mode. Here, please make sure that we have a sufficient number of RDS Per User CALs installed on the license server to provide an RDS Per
User CAL for each user that needs to connect to the RD Session Host server.
Besides, for this question is more related to RDS, in order to get professional help, it's recommended that we ask for suggestions in the following RDS forum.

  • QoS roles on WLC, Per user or per conection?

    Hi guys.
This morning I`m talking with my colleages about QoS roles on WLC and their behaviour, then a question has arisen me, because I know when I apply a QoS role or QoS profile it is a per-user role. Ok said my colleage, but What is the behaviour when several devices are using the same user with a QoS role applied?
Good question, I always assumed that this QoS role applies to every different connection managing it like a new user connection, that is, every new connection with the same user (if the QoS role is, for example, 256k for this user) will have a bandwitdh of 256k, but now I'm not sure if the WLC manages every connection at this way or divide the bandwitdh defined for that used into as many parts as connection have with this user ( for ten connections, for example, 25,6k).
Anyone can tell me how is the behaviour of the WLC in this scenario???
    Thanks in advanced.
    Best Regards.

    My2c.
If you apply the values on QoS profile instead of User profile then it is applicable to users connected to that WLAN mapped QoS profile. This way total no. of users will divide the available bandwidth. However, user with p2p application might consume all available bandwidth.

  • Sa520 Web filter per user?

Is there a way in the sa520 to enable HTTP filtering per user or per group?  I simply want to add a "executives" group that do not get blocked out as much as Normal users.

    Hi John,
If you use the standard Content Filtering of your SA520, then you  cannot segregate client access.  Either all clients are blocked or all  are allowed.
If  you buy a license for ProtectLink Gateway, then you are able to block a  group of users from viewing certain sites, while predefining a list of  clients that will have access to the sites in question- in this case your Executive Group.  However, they  will have access to all sites.  Clients will either be blocked or  allowed to visit sites that are to be filtered.

  • Exchange liscences, per mailbox or per concurrent connections

can anyone confirm, ideally with evidence via a microsoft link, as to whether exchange 2010 server client access liscences are per user, or per mailbox, i.e. if you have 300 mailboxes, you need 300 cals, whereas if you only have 150 concurrent connections
to the mailbox server at any one time, you only need 150 cals.
Also if its per mailbox, what are the rules on ex employee mailboxes, that are sat on the mailbox server, but not being actively accessed. Do they still require a CAL, or can they be flagged as disconnected or something?

    Hi,
A user with multiple mailboxes requires only one CAL. In contrast, if multiple users access the same mailbox, each user needs his or her own CAL, unless the user is accessing that mailbox from a single device licensed with a Device CAL.
A better explanation is provided here:

  • "Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per user)" Group Policy setting not applied until login as a local Administrator

We want to deploy to all our desktop the pac file to configure proxy. We have a Windows 2008 R2 server, and i've enabled the GPO "Make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per user)", and i've add a registry key AutoConfigURL in "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
Version\Internet Settings" with the pac file link.
I've tested on my pc, and all was configured without any problem. I've try to login to my computer with another user (without admin rights) and the automatic configuration proxy was compiled and not modificable. It's seems that all works.
But, our users are not local admin, so i've tried to deploy the GPO in a collegue computer. I've forced the update of GPO, checked on registry that all new keys are added, and i've reboot the pc. When i've check on IE settings, autoconfig URL was empty and
grey. I'm disconnected from user and i've login to the pc with a local admin. With my surprise, the IE settings was compiled. When i'm come bac to the user profile the IE settings was compiled and not modificable.
The problem is: i've over 750 users in 3 countries, and i don't want grant them the local admin permissions. How can i configure proxy settings via GPO without login to every machine at least one time?

In the past, we experienced various issues with machine proxy settings,
so we don't use them anymore. The simple approach:
Block access to the connections page through ADM template settings and
deploy the proxy through GPP Internet Settings.
This is what we do (with a pac file, too), and it works well :)

  • An OS-Intergrated place to store per-user application configuration files.

    A Chairde,
I'm developing an application that could be deployed on multiple platforms. I'm looking for a location to store per-user configuration files in a OS-integrated way.
I use a utility class to determine the OS of the users machine. I know from experience that Windows NT5+ likes to store per-user settings/configurations in the %APPDATA% path (which is usually C:\Users\<username>\Appdata\Roaming\<vendor>\<software> etc.) I'm using a call to the environment labels to determine it's location.
I'm a linux user myself, so I'm aware that most UNIX based Operating Systems like to store personal configurations in hidden folders in the user's home directory (ex /home/<username>/.<application> etc.), Obviously, I'm using a call to the system property user.home to determine that location.
My Question is in relation to Mac OS and Mac OS X, where would it be a safe location to store per-user configurations? I know OS X is BSD/UNIX based so is it safe to assume to store them as a hidden subfolder of the user.home directory? What about Mac OS classic? Where are per-user settings stored, or is it like Windows 9x and NT4 and lacks proper multi-user setups (although NT4 is somewhat more prepared then 9x) ?
It would be much appreciated if anybody has any ideas.
    Is Mise,
    Seán Mac Aodha
PS. I'm not using Javas Property files etc. I've rolled my own exchangeable format for storing key, value pairs.

I've used databases in the past to store local files but clients have sometimes run into trouble when the database daemon goes down or doesnt start-up normally because of a "improper" shutdown etc.
In my own implementation of "Settings Files" i have serialized hashtables marked with appropriate metadata stored to the users "application data", a backup or original copy of those settings in the common directory shared by my application framework and then in a networked enviroment, the Settings can be hosted on a database server, so the user can travel between client machines and keep their settings (and files) with them.
I have, with a bit of googling, come across the most obvious page i should have looked at in regards to Apple Mac OS X
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/BPFileSystem/Articles/WhereToPutFiles.html
According to Apple's guidlines, the most suitable place to store User configuration files is in the ~/Library/Application Support/<Application Name> directory.
and for System-wide configuration files, /Library/Application Support/<Application Name> rather then storing them with the application in the /Applications directory.

  • What is "deny mach-per-user-lookup"

I went to console to investigate system crashes (i believe to be an openGL issue unrelated to this) and i saw a number of these:
    5/26/10 1:22:42 AM sandboxd[330] sshd(1056) deny mach-per-user-lookup
There were 883 messages over 8.5 hours, mixed in with occasional:
    Allow sshd-keygen-wrapper connecting from 217.27.150.178:55936 to port 22 proto=6
I traced the IP back to Kiev… in Russia. That's odd. I did a search around and found mention of people with snow leopard, 10.6.2 or 3 (which i have) reporting this but the conversations were varied…
could someone explain 'deny mach-per-user-lookup' for me, and elaborate on the sshd attempts? I don't know if i should be concerned. I do have an RSA key-only tunnel set up with my work computer, but i had believed this was to be the most secure set up possible and these seem to be on port 22 which is common FTP anyway. OS firewall is up otherwise allowing the common connections like fire sharing and SHH, my router is set for 'inbound and outbound accept' as its security policy, but regardless, all but a couple dozen specific ports are blocked.

  • Amount of Resources CPU and Memory per user

    Hi,
We are looking to deploy a Line of Business Application via RemoteApp and a custom template.  The application requires a significant amount of RAM and CPU, can someone tell me who much RAM and CPUs are allocated per session \ user?  I would expect
that we would use the Standard tier if any difference to resources available.
    Thanks
    Giles

    Hi James,
Currently there is no way to configure resources other than selecting either Basic or Standard.  If you would like a lower per-VM user density (and thus higher resources for each user) what you can do is create more collections, and only assign
a small number of users to each.
For example, say you only wanted to have a maximum of 4 users on each VM, providing typically at least 1 vCPU per user.  In this case you would create collections with the Basic plan, each linked
to the same template image, and only assign a maximum of 4 user accounts on the user access tab of each.  Assuming each user uses 80+ hours a month, the total (before discounts) cost for each collection would be $228/month, making each user
cost about $57/month, slightly less than equivalent cost under Standard plan pricing if you factor in resources per user.
You probably already know this, but I will explain how scaling works normally for others that may read this.  Azure RemoteApp will automatically create more VMs for each collection as needed to handle user load (Scale-Out) and shut down VMs when the
user load is reduced (Scale-In).  The key thing that affects this scaling mechanism is the maximum concurrent users allowed on each VM, which for Standard is 10.
In your case you are asking if you can have more resources per user, hence my instructions above for creating multiple collections and limiting the number of assigned users to less than 10 each.
Depending on your unique needs it may make more sense to create a custom RDS deployment on Azure IaaS VMs.  In this case you could control the size/type of VM used, user density, etc.  Downside is you have to set up and manage more
RDS components than you do if you use Azure RemoteApp.

  • Limit the number of session per user in the Wired dot1x environment with ISE 1.2

    Hello,
I need to check if there is any configuration/workaround to limit the number of sessions/access per user in the Wired dot1x configuration.
I need to check if this feature is available or not to solve the following scenario:
I have 2 SW ports configured to use dot1x authentication with ISE 1.2 server.
If user A connects to the 1st port and authenticated then he will placed on a VLAN based on the authorization profile.
The case, that I need to deny the same user to connect on a different machine with the same credentials.
The ISE itself does not have this feature currently,  the only feature available is to limit the number of sessions for the guest user.
Is there any workaround on the Cisco switches to solve this? Cisco WLC has this feature and for the VPN we can limit the number of sessions also from the ASA itself.
    Thanks.

limit number of session per user using wired dot1x is not available in 1.3

  • Payment Distribution to Artists by per user plays, rather than total plays

    Hello!
I just had a thought about how payment is distributed to artists that I wanted to see if anyone might have some thoughts on. Spotify still does come under criticism on occasion for artist payment distribution - I've seen a couple of instances of people citing iTunes as providing more monetary compensation to artists since it is per download, rather than per play, among other things. This seems to be especially true for independent artists, and artists who are generally less well-known.
I was wondering if Spotify has ever considered doing payment distributions using the
sum[ (total artist streams per user) / (total streams per user) ] across all users
ratio for payment calculation, rather than the currently used
(total artist streams across Spotify) / (total streams across Spotify)
approach, i.e. calculating the artists' play ratio by user, rather than in one giant pool. If you have considered this, I would love to hear why the current payment implementation was chosen rather than a per user method, such as the one listed above. But...
If a per user method has not been considered by Spotify previously, I think it would be nice - while I'm not an analyst myself, I imagine that it could lead to more revenue for independent artists, and maybe even less famous artists that are still beholden to rights owners for distribution of payment. I think it would do this because it could account for differences in number of plays per user - rather than users who tend to play more music over the course of a month contributing more all artists' payout, each user has an equal voice in how money gets distributed to artists.
I understand that such a switch would be difficult, and possibly insurmountable in the instance of free users - so, I am positing this as an idea not for all users, but for Premium users only. With Premium, it is a feasible goal, since you have a finite number of plays, and a finite amount of money coming directly from that user, and do not have to worry about trying to calculate differences in advertisement impact for different users. Doing that ratio calculation would be relatively straightforward of a switch computationally (though quite a large change in the system nonetheless, of course).
I think this type of change would empower both users and artists to use Spotify more. Firstly, it would empower artists to allow Spotify to play their music because the metrics they would get per month would be more reflective of the size of their fan base, and how much importance that fan base puts on the artists' music than current metrics.
Secondly, it would empower users more, which I think is especially important for users between 18-32 years of age. While I am not an expert on the subject, I often find that users in this age group (my age group) care a great deal about having control over where their money ends up, which in this case means knowing which rights holders and/or artists are getting the money they are spending. I know I do. Switching to this system, while still not addressing the injustices that are felt within the relationship between rights holders and artists by many, would still allow users to have more of a say in who gets their money than the current system. On top of that, it might be helpfult for Spotify itself - if using Premium is the only way for users to feel empowered by knowing how their money is distributed, it may encourage people in the free tier to upgrade to Premium in order to feel empowered.
Just a thought. I'd love to hear what you and others have to say about this idea.

@Merik thanks for the warm welcome, and for the quick, informative response!
I had the chance to take a look at that page you linked to before my original post, and saw that paragraph you quoted, as well as the bullet point about paid users having a higher "per stream" rate. I guess what I was more interested in (and perhaps this is not the right place to ask this question?) was if there was more of an in-depth "why" behind their decision (and thanks again for linking to it!) documented anywhere that I might be able to read more about. Maybe I was missing something on that page (and please let me know if so!), but the only "why" that I could find was a sentence in the paragraph you quote above:
"We believe, however, that our service and the lives of artists will both be best if the World’s music fans enjoy more music than ever before in a legal, paid manner".
While it's great to see their opinion, I was more curious about the line of reasoning behind that position is all. Because I do wonder whether empowering premium users to have more fine-grained control over how their money is allocated, such as by doing pay "per user", might lead to both more paid users and more revenue for independent and/or lesser-known artists - and if that's something that Spotify has researched already, I would love to hear more about the pros and cons behind such an approach!
    Thanks!

  • Using Windows Server 2012 per-User RDS CAL on Server 2008 R2 Session Host

I have a Remote Desktop Licensing Server setup on my domain controller running Windows Server 2012 R2. I have installed a
’Windows Server 2012 Remote Desktop Services per-User CAL’ there and activated the licensing server already.
Currently I use ONLY Windows Server 2008 R2 machines as RDS Session Hosts (in the future I plan to transition them to 2012 R2, hence the CAL I bought is
    already in the newest version).
I have already configured my WS 2008 RDS Session Hosts: set
Per-User licensing mode and specified license server address. The connectivity between my Session Host(s) and my License Server seems to be ok as the
Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration window on the Session Host correctly lists the 2012 per-user
license (CAL installed on server) from the license server.
On the License Server I can also see event logs entries (in
Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-Licensing/Admin), indicating that the user has been issued a license.
The issue I am having is that the license being issued is
2008 Per User CAL license (Build-in OverUsed - temporary) and not the 2012 Per User CAL license which is the only license installed on the server. According to the RDS CAL interoperability matrix at
social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/14988.rds-and-ts-cal-interoperability-matrix.aspx, I was expecting the 2012 license to be backward-compatible with 2008 client (and that
in the absence of legacy licenses, the (only) 2012 license would be used for all clients connecting to the licensing server)
Before I bought my license, I found this document:
    download.microsoft.com/download/3/D/4/3D42BDC2-6725-4B29-B75A-A5B04179958B/WindowsServerRDS_VLBrief.pdf
which says that - "newer version RDS CALs can be used with an older version of the server software" (In section FAQ, Q4), which means to me that
the 2012 license would work as-is for the 2008 Server and gives me flexibility when upgrading to the new server version.
How can I make this CAL work in my environment?
    Note:
    I have already explicitly disabled
Prevent license upgrade Group Policy setting which I assumed would fix the issue but nothing has changed.
Then I have enabled License server security group Group Polity setting
and added computers from my domain to RDS Endpoint Servers AD group. I have also created new AD group called
Terminal Server Computers and added the computer accounts there, but it changes
    nothing. Reference - technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee791761.aspx , technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725704.aspx and blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2009/09/17/control-the-issuance-of-rds-cals.aspx.
I found one potential ‘workaround’ which involved manually downgrading my CAL license by calling
Microsoft Clearinghouse. I am very reluctant do to so because, as I upgrade parts of my infrastructure to Server 2012, I’d need to then ask Microsoft to manually upgrade a part of my license back as well.
Am I missing something? What should I do to get my 2012 CAL to be issued to 2008 R2 server

Hi, I have tried several other possibilities.
I change expire date for my temporary assigned license (2008 CAL overused). It can be done, by changing Active Directory user properties – msTSExpireDate. When I restart my Session Host server and logged again, my license was renewed
for next 60 days (event ID - 4145).
I also delete information about license for this user (clear msTSExpireDate and msTSLicenseVersion). And the license was successfully removed from License Manager. After another SH restart it gets the same – 2008 overused – license
(event ID 4143 - license server has successfully issued …)
I now, that changing info in AD attributes is a little trick, and this is not a real value - only a reference, but it was useful to delete or change expiration date of license. But it didn’t change type of license as I expected.
