QT Pro new movie recording

Is there any way to choose window size and bit rate when using the new movie recording feature(directly from firewire)? Recording preferences only lists good, better, and device native - without the ability to "fine tune". When recording TV using the better setting(h264) I get a different bit rate every time - from 215 kbps to 1164 kbps. I realize I can use device native then save it however I want but was hoping to avoid the extra step and long encoding time.

In QuickTime Pro, choose File > New Movie Recording (or File > New Audio Recording).
I do not get the option New Movie Recording?
Do you have a compatible video device connected to your system to provide video input? (I.e., QT 7 Pro does no include a "Screen Recoding" option if that is what you are trying to do. It only records video from a built-in or compatible externally connected video device.)

  • The Quicktime Pro New Movie Recording Feature

I just got the Pro edition, and it says in the guide that to record a new movie all I have to do is plug in my camera and then go to File menu and click on "New Movie Recording", but I don't have that item on my menu? I'm guessing it should be there, and I checked that I typed in my key correctly, so what is wrong? I have a camera and mic but what I really want is to do it with quicktime.
    Thanks for your help.

I just bought the powershot canon s21s and followed drom the quicktime pro 1) file

  • Quicktime Pro crashes whenever new movie recording is selected

I just got a brand new Macpro 2x 3ghz quad core with OSX 10.4.1. Running Qt 7.2 using AVDC-110 for capture. Seems to work with imovie. But I can only capture video with quicktime if Pro Tools is open. Playback in Pro Tools through AVDC-110 seems to be hit or miss after capture with either program, (the same file only playsback through the 110 about 1/2 the time) though videos captured on my old G5 with the same capture device playback flawlessly on the new computer. If Pro Tools is not open, Quicktime crashes when either "new movie recording" or "recording preferences" are selected. The problem seems to be a conflict between my AVDC-110 and quicktime, like quicktime doesn't see the device until another piece of software has recognized it. Any ideas?
    thanks for any help.

I'd try upgrading your system software... any reason you haven't yet?
Also... try repairing permissions in DISK UTILITY.
See if that doesn't help. If not, we'll go in and do some other stuff too.

  • Echoing in Quick time, version 10.3(727.4), (new movie recording)

I have a problem with Quick time. When I select new movie recording I hear bad eching. I try to keep the volume down on quick time which somewhat reduces the problem but its not a solution. I also backed up 10 feet and can still hear the echo. I also have a problem when I facetime my sister on her macbook pro. She hears echoing on her end and I hear her voice breaking up on my end. When I facetime my brother on his iphone I have no problems. I also skyped my sister and have no problems. When my sister facetimes me from her macbook pro to my ipad we have no problems.
I purchased an imac 27" last year after thanksgiving. I'm using updated software version and I have talked to apple care and they have had me go through the gauntlet of options and still no answer. I noticed this problem with quick time after my purchase and apple care told me they dont have an answer and I should try using a head set, which is not an answer or solution. I redownloaded my OS, didnt help. The next step recommended was to do an erase and re-install of my OS.
Can anyone please help with this problem. Its very annoying having any issues after purchasing a new computer, especially with the price tag apple charges. Not a happy camper at this point.
    Thanks

What happens if you go to System Preferences---> Accessibility---> Zoom and tick "Use scroll gesture with modifier key to zoom:" By default control is the modifier key.
To zoom in/out. Press and hold the control key while you use your mouse/trackpad to zoom in/out.
I don't know how this would look for your objective though. I just know that you have to turn that feature on by ticking that box. Other wise it won't work.

  • There is no "New Movie Recording" menu item under "File" menu

I purchased the Quick Time 7 Pro. I registered the key successfully. (The Quick Time Settings window did show "Quick Time 7 Pro"). But when I brought up the Quick Time player, there is no "New Movie Recording" sub-menu item showing up under "File" menu. There are only "New Player", "New Audio Recording", "Open File", "Open URL.." etc. subitems under "File" menu. How to record the vedio without this item show up?? Thanks.

Recording video using QuickTime Pro is a "Mac only" feature of the software. Windows versions only have audio recording.

  • No New Movie Recording Command

I downloaded the 7.16 Quick Time Player and then upgraded to Quick Time Pro. The registration appeared to be successful, as the Preferences page now shows the user name, key code, and "Quick Time 7 Pro". However, on the File menu, there is no command for New Movie Recording. There's only New Player and New Audio Recording. What am I doing wrong??

First, everyone here is just a user like you. With rare exceptions, Apple employees do not participate in the Discussions. So it's not "our" advertisement.
As to "advertising", nowhere on the QuickTime for Windows site does it ever say that video capture is a feature. If you read the Mac feature list and just presumed that it applied as well to the Windows version, then that was obviously an unwarranted assumption. It's never wise to presume features hold consistent across platforms, as it's rarely the case.
You can ask for a refund, but it's extremely unlikely that you'll get one. Apple's terms of sale clearly state that download software isn't eligible for refunds, and this isn't a case of a feature being promised but not working but rather of mistaken expectations.
Sorry, but you're probably out of luck.

  • Why does Quicktime crash on "New Movie Recording?"

I have been trying to fix a bizarre problem.
When I open Quicktime and select "New Movie Recording," the application crashes. When I open any other Quicktime driven application that wants to do movie recording, it crashes. When I try to open Quicktime Preferences for "Recording" the application crashes.
I have repaired permissions and even set up another user to see if these make a difference. They do not.
    What can I do?
    Thanks.

    SOLUTION FOUND!!
I called Apple Care this morning...they had me run through a bunch of steps that were of no use to me. The Rep was in the process of getting more info when we were cut off. So I tried the logical step: UNINSTALL Quick Time, and DOWNLOAD a new one.
I have QT PRO, so I made sure I copied my authorization key before I did this. Go to your applications folder, drag and drop Quick Time in the Trash. Then empty the trash.
Go to the Quick Time page on Apple, download and install Quick Time. You'll be prompted to restart the computer.
After signing on, I double checked to see if my version was current. I also double checked by checking software updates. I went to the QT PREFERENCES page...and believe it or not, my Pro Registration Key was already filled in for me! If yours isn't, I suggest you enter it and then try and record a movie.
Btw, I'm also an Apple Care customer, so I did a Tech Tool Deluxe scan before and after the QT Uninstall/Reinstall. Prior to the uninstall, the Video RAM test FAILED. After the reinstall, the Video RAM test PASSED.
I just recorded three short video and audio tests...works like a charm!
I don't know what could have caused this, but I found it unusual that you and I had the same problem on the same day. Hopefully the gang at Apple will recognize this if it is indeed a wider issue.
Good luck...and let me know how it went for you!

  • New Movie recording broken

    Hi,
Has anyone come across this before? It's a brand new Mac Pro with iSight attached.

Hmm it's working again. I'd read a few posts on the latest Audio Hijack causing all sorts of video/audio problems and since I used it for the first time on the Mac Pro earlier today I thought perhaps it could be a factor. So i removed the instant hijack plug-in with no change then proceeded to reinstall Quicktime and once again, no change. I then switched the firewire port and voila, new movie recording worked. I'm also able to re-use the same firewire port without issue so goodness knows what's going on but it works again.

  • Quicktime - no option to do 'new movie recording'.

I have upgraded to Quicktime pro but only have the option in the file menu to do 'new audio recording'. I want to be able to do 'new movie recording'. The software is installed on a new Toshiba laptop with an inbuilt cam. I have also tried plugging in an external webcam. Any suggestions?

Thanks Kirk. Not the outcome I wanted but it is good to have a definitive answer
Appreciate you taking the time to help

  • Record 16:9 in new movie recording?

    Hi,
Is it possible to record a DV 16:9 image from a camera as a DV 16:9 movie without letterboxing using the new movie recording feature? If so, how can this be done?
Also, can I take a 4:3 DV movie with letterboxing and convert that to a real 16:9 movie without letterboxing with an aspect ratio of 320 x 180? If so, how?
    Thanks..

I don't know why my frame rate varied 3 times but I find it strange that with your G5 2.0 ghz, you are only able to record 29.5fps. Do you have other programs or widgets/dashboards running?
Guilty as charged. Can usually remember to exit Safari, Mail, and/or iChat but never remember to shut down the widgets. (Usually have 4-9 active at all times.) In addition, SnapsProX is always left active and since I'm always updating clips for the family on my DotMac account the blasted MirrorAgent is constantly coming on when I least expect or want it to do so. (Frequently find myself manually terminating it in the activity monitor just so I can turn the computer off.)
I will be recording only approximately 1:30 at a time directly from my DV camera to Quicktime on iMac G5 with nothing else running. Do you think I'll have a problem with frame rates less than 29.97?
Don't see it being a major problem for most "light" work which you intend to target at say "QT Trailer" frame rates/data rates/quality settings or less. Would not use it for sourcing DVD burns and don't like using it for iPod/Podcast targeted files or when capturing a 2, 3, 4-hour movie or marathon of old TV shows. Won't say there is anything specifically wrong with using it. It is just that I prefer a dedicated capture application with better known and more consistent characteristics. Would say it is all matter of "the exegencies of the moment" really.

  • Quicktime not recording audio in New Movie Recording

Audio is not recorded when using an audio interface as the input in New Movie Recording, but records fine when in New Screen and Audio Recording. Using my laptop's internal microphone is fine, cannot work out what the problem is, as it has worked absolutely fine in the past, but has stopped.
Sound can be heard and the volume meter in Quicktime responds to sound coming in, just doesn't record at all in that mode.

Are you launching Captivate with Run As Administrator privilege?
If one of your co-workers logs onto your PC with their user profile, does the same microphone that doesn't work for you work OK for them?

  • Want to resize my new movie recording

hi i want to resize my new movie recording to at least 720 x 480.
can this be done in quicktime 7? i'm just not seeing where i can
    do this.
    please help & thanks.

i'm just not seeing where i can do this. The "Device native" setting is 720 x 480 (640 x 480) with frame rate varied depending on the CPU power of your platform. Basically, there are no manual "display size" adjustments for the QT "Recording" feature. The "Device Native" option is fixed NTSC while MPEG-4 and H.264 outputs automatically vary in size and frame rate depending on your platform CPU's ability to capture and convert.

  • New Movie Recording Problem!!!

    Hi everyone,
This thread may sound a bit dumb, I was recording with quicktime New Movie Recording feature and then instead of stopping the recording process, I tried to quit the program.
I got a warning message which I stupidly didnt read at the time.
The error message said " Do u want to keep the current recording? " and I pressed dont keep.
Now Im just hoping for a way to exist for me to find the recording because it was very important to me,
Is there a way to find the recorded file within some temporary folders???
    Any help is appreciated.

    Sorry.
    No.

  • Quicktime new movie recording is suddenly not seeing video

I've been using quicktime for as long as I remember to watch TV on a corner or even my second screen while I'm doing something else. For some reason now I am just getting a black screen and no audio from my ADVC-100 even though quicktime sees it, proven by it being selected in the pull down menu as the video and audio source. I was thinking the culprit to be the AVDC-100 but earn I connect my iSight though it shows video and audio, it freezes within seconds. I tried dumping playlists and preferences for quicktime with no improvement. I am at a loss, just don't know how to fix this, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Multiple audio sources for quicktime movie recording

I want to record a Quicktime movie using iSight as the video input, external audio (guitar) via a Focusrite Saffire LE (1874) audio interface and internal audio (a backing track) from either iTunes, Logic 9 or MainStage 2 (I don't care which), so I can record myself playing and then send the video to another guitarist via Dropbox or similar.  Is this possible and if so how do I set it up on my iMac?
    Thanks.

QuickTime Player Pro, QuickTime X (Snow Leopard) and QuickTime 10.1 (Lion) all include a "New Movie Recording" feature. The camera can be the internal iSight or an externaly connected one and the audio can be internal or line in.
But you can only have one video and one audio source.
QuickTime Player Pro can be used to add additional "tracks" and the .mov container can have up to 99 of them. GarageBand can help you edit the track timing. It also includes other "instuments" and can play your video while you build additional tracks.
I would record via iSight but not include any audio. Then use GarageBand to add the additional audio tracks.
