QT Pro not playing new MPEG 2

I just created a new MPEG 2 file and QT Pro gives me a "Error -2048" when trying to play it. However, it does play my older MPEG 2 videos. Any ideas?

QuickTime MPEG2 component generally cannot play muxed AC3 audio as would be on a DVD in a VOB file. It can supposedly play a .m2v and .m2a pair of files together (which are not muxed).
MPEGStreamClip uses the QuickTime MPEG2 component but it can fully play all types of MPEG2 file including muxed ones, VOB files with AC3 or other type of audio, TS files, etc. however it apparently does not work in Mavericks.
To add to the confusion Lion and later have included a stripped down version of the MPEG2 component which behaves differently.
If you want something that will reliably and simply play all types of video file then use VLC.

  • Mail 4.1,not playing "new message" sound, and some sent mail not in outBox

For some reason, no "new message" sound is being played (has been like this for a few weeks), and some (~1/10) sent mail does not show up in the sent box (been like this for a long time).
And yes, preferences are set to "play new messages sound"
    Any ideas?

I would guess that's an IMAP account, go into mail preferences and select advanced tab for that account and uncheck use IDLE command and the new mail sound should work.
Not sure about the sent mail problem.

  • Premiere Pro: Not Playing Timeline, Not Rendering Full Sequence, Stalling on One Frame

    2013 iMac // 10.9.3 // Premiere Pro CC 2014 (latest update)
I have been editing a project for a few days, and it just started giving me issues on my last run through it before exporting.
I have dealt with many problems with PP before, but I honestly don't even know what's going wrong here. I cannot pinpoint the issue. It seems to be a number of things. I started by updating PP and CUDA. Nothing. So I continued.
    1) I was having problems rendering, so I figured I'd delete the preview files and start from scratch. When rendering the entire project, it would get to about 60%, then stop and hang there. After five minutes of watching it, I would quit PP. Even though it would look like it had quit, it would still be running in Activity Monitor and the little light underneath it in the dock would be on, so I have to force quit.
    2) It was odd because the spot where it stops rendering is the sport where, if I scroll through the timeline, the Program window will freeze on one frame. Then it doesn't matter how much I move the playhead, it won't show any other frames. Nor will the sequence play at all after this. So I'd quit again.
    3) I went back to another project and rendered everything in it - fine and dandy.
Why is this giving me such a problem? If anyone needs anything else from me to properly diagnose this, please just say so! Thanks for the help.

Sorry 'bout the time lag. Our new firm just started its first large project, and as the tech geek for the photo-part of it, been kinda busy.
So there's clearly a problem with the project file having gotten corrupted, but ... when it hits the footage it choked on before, it choked again. There's some kind of glitch here that has to to with PrPro interacting with those files. I'm wondering if a file header somewhere has a digit that can confuse PrPro or something? I do recall a couple issues of a similar nature that eventually involved people sending a bit of the nasty footage to an Adobe staffer, who poked through behind the scenes and found something that was not exactly what it might best have been in a header or something. Altered that, PrPro & footage liked each other again, everybody else happy. But that's the sort of ish that one needs experience at ... and I've got none.
There's been times also where people have split a project up ... right on the edge of the Problem. Three parts to their project, in separate project files. First "good" part, and rendered it out as a separate project. Next project, the "troubled" footage that worked by itself, as again its own project, and rendered out. Then the final & also untroubled part, again rendered out. I've heard of both taking those into QuicktimePro (if appropriate codec) and uniting in one continuous piece, I've also heard of people who took three PrPro projects that had been rendered out separately (if I recall one was probably about six parts, a long & complex bugger) and brought those rendered-out parts back in to make a final project with everything in it. In fact, there are a number of people who split their larger projects into chunks, that are finished separately, then combined in a final PrPro project for final polishing as their normal work habit.
    Best wishes ...

  • DVD studio pro not playing entire video

When I use the simulator it only plays a portion of the video, and when I burn it to a DVD it stops at the same point. But both the audio and mpeg2 in the track play all the way through though. What am I doing wrong?

So if the project is corrupt, does that mean I just have to re export my project in FCP? I used quicktime conversion and I read that it isn't recommended for exporting to be burned to DVD. I orginally tried to use compressor to get it to mpeg2 for DVD studio and what not so I compressed it again and the same thing happened. I also tried to use the share option in FCP with the DVD option but it exported for over 10 hours and was stuck at 5 minutes remaining for about the last 3 hours so I just cancelled it. This is the first time I have ever had to burn to DVD so sorry for being such a noob. And I have no menu, the DVD just needs to play automatically.
No, the clips do not automatically need to be re-exported. The issue with QuickTime is primarily a quality issue.
As Michael mentions above, the preferred workflow is "File:  Export:  Quicktime movie (NOT quicktime conversion) with current settings.  Take this file into compressor and apply the appropriate dvd preset."
I like to think of the export as a "master" file that I use as a basis for transcoding.
I have little knowledge of the newer output options like Sharing. My experience has been that the things done to "simplify" the work usually compromise quality and frequently don't work well.
Here's an article on making an autp-play DVD:

  • DVD Studio Pro not playing back audio of asset converted from FCP via compressor.

    I exported project via compressor:
    File Extension: m2v
    Estimated file size: 4.34 GB
    Video Encoder
        Format: M2V
        Width: 720
        Height: 480
Pixel aspect ratio: NTSC CCIR 601/DV
        Crop: None
        Frame rate: 29.97
        Frame Controls: Off
        Aspect ratio: 4:3
        Field dominance: Bottom first
        Average data rate: 3.6 (Mbps)
        2 Pass VBR enabled
            Maximum data rate: 7.5 (Mbps)
        High quality
        Best motion estimation
Closed GOP Size: 15, Structure: IBBP
        DVD Studio Pro meta-data enabled
This took about 7.5 hours.  I exported the audio separately as AC3. Finder plays it sound & pictures.  Quicktime plays the video.  DVD Studio Pro, when I drag the assets (video, audio) to the timeline editor, so I can play it in the viewer, it plays the audio the video is black.  No setting in view or any other setting will get it to play the video.  This project is due to ship today and I don't want to re import it if I don't have to.
I exported this project before the MPEG2 export as a Qicktime with .mov suffix.  This plays alright, but there is artifacting around motion.  I think this is due to low VBR, but don't know.  Can ayone help?

    If I may chime in...
I'm a little confused on the "what plays what" part, but  all that really matters is what DVDSP sees/plays.
I've worked on a system like yours and what I'd recommend is:
    1. NEVER export via Compressor. It's just ungodly slow on anything less than a Quad. Export a self contained QuickTime Movie using the first export option and use that to feed Compressor.
    2. Segment your output into manageable clips (I like 15-20 minutes) both to perfect the encoding and so you aren't re-encoding the whole show if something goes sour. It will all play fine as long as it's all in the same DVDSP timeline.
From what you describe, I'm thinking you're on an early version of Compressor that had A-Pack as the AC-3 encoder. This is no biggie, I mention it mostly to verify. Early Compressor was good too.
Make maybe a 5 minute piece to tune up. Just export as normal, then into Compressor. Your encoding values seem about right. Get the AV pair into DVDSP and it should play. I'm guessing that part of your problem is that the processor is fighting to handle the project size. Build the test clip project and look at it in DVD Player to view what would have been burned. If all looks OK, go for it. If not, bring back the results for discussion. This should be a snap, it's just a really big project.  Keep your head up, I had a friend do a 225-minute disk on his G5...

  • Flashplayer not playing new web content

    Hi,
This is weird as my other computers (W7 & W8) have no issue, but my laptop (W8) does.....
I have updated some images on my website which are displayed using flash.
My 2 desktops immediately played the new images, but my laptop won't. Turned it off and on again, no difference.
I tried to find the differences in the settings of all up to date Players, but could not see any.
Emptied the browser cache to no avail. I could not locate the appdata cache in W8, the search method as described does not work in 8, but still, all pc's seem to be equal so I why would that make a difference?
    Anybody any clue?

  • MacBook Pro - not liking new ssd

    Hello,
I am having a slight problem with my Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011
My old ssd corrupted, used as a primary disk with 500gb storage (Samsung 840 500gb)
So I decided it was time for an upgrade anyway and ordered a Samsung 500gb 840EVO as after using Samsung's SSDs throughtout my household and only this time have I had an issue (this is much better than OCZ and other companies)
I managed to recover the files on my 840, and put them on my spare backup drive, and I can run from there like a dream.
However with my new ssd, whenever it is in the main HDD slot I cannot boot from it, and when I run it through where the disk drive used to be, I get the same issue (I cannot take my mac back to apple due to having the disk drive removed), however if I connect my new ssd via usb I can boot it up perfectly (I am writting this via it) but this is not very practical for day to day use, does anyone know how I could fix this so I can connect my ssd inside my mac (either in the main drive or via where the disk drive is (I dont mind!))
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind Regards,

  • Purchasing new Pro not purchasing new software

I am purchasing a new MacBook Pro and have a lot of expensive software such as Final Cut and Adobe. How can I transfer this software over without having to repurchase it?

The issue here is having the activation keys handy should they be needed. Setup Assistant, which runs only once at First Start, does a great job of moving everything moveable over, but the activation of some products may be associated to one specific computer via its hostid; i.e., Adobe as mentioned by Mende1. So that will require additional manual action on your part. A few points:
Very old programs that ran on PowerPC Macs will NOT run on Mountain Lion. Period. The Rosetta PPC emulator was phased out on the Lions. So be sure that all your critical apps are Intel. Finder's Get Info will tell you what each is on the Kind: line.
Since the Setup Assistant essentially copies the old Mac onto the new, it will pay to do a thorough housecleaning there before doing the move. Benefits of SA is you get your work environment up and going fast without having to go thru the motions of setting everything up. Benefits of the housecleaning is not having to go thru the motions of cleaning out all the accumulated crud of the ages twice.
As for how to get the two Macs talking, depends on what the two have as interfaces. If both have Firewire (i.e., the new one is a regular non-Retina model), a single cable is all that's needed, just with the appropriate connectors: 6-pin or 9-pin. Ideally, with FW800 the moving will be over in a short while. If the "old" Mac actually be 2011 or newer, Thunderbolt is the absolute fastest way to get stuff across, but the darn cable is hideously expensive. Target Disk Mode is your friend (works with FW or TB): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
If you can't use either of the two above and must connect thru the network, try to get a wired connection up using patchcords. Even with 802.1n Wi-Fi, will be significantly slower.

  • CS4 Premiere Pro not playing

I have just got 6 imacs all with cs4 suite installed, when I press space to play or J or L to play it only plays a milli-second and not the whole thing, all the mac are doing this ? is there a setting someplace ? I also have the same problem in Soundbooth and even final cut, imovie. Anyone help ?

    Mark,
It would probably be helpful for you to provide a bit more information here.  However, let me give you some basic suggestions
make sure your apple os is up to date - graphics drivers might be included and be affecting you
make sure your CS4 suites are up to date.  Premiere Pro is currently at version 4.1....  4.0 and 4.01 were previous versions.  4.2 is around the corner but not out yet.
play your media in quicktime to see if that's problem.
capture or import some footage that you know will play.  try that in premiere pro.

    Dennis

  • MacBook Pro not recognizing new printers

My MacBook Pro is not recognizing my new wireless Epson printer.  When I click "Add printer," no printers show in the list to add.  I have tried connecting it with the ethernet cord as well, but it still doesn't show up.  My dad's computer added the printer just fine, which is also a Mac.  My computer also isn't recognizing my husband's printer or my dad's printer at his house.  When I first bought the computer a few years ago (maybe 2 years??), I connected my current printer just fine and it still works.  However, I need a new printer, and now it doesn't seem to recognize any other printer besides the old one I have always had.  I have tried updating my computer, but it says that it is up to date.  Help!

    Lindsay518,
what said that it couldn’t be opened? Is the file completely downloaded? (If so, it should be 1,190,445,549 bytes long; you can Get Info on the file to confirm its length.)
Note that EPSON also has drivers available for your combination of printer and operating system version on their Web site. More importantly, they also have a firmware update available for the WF-2540.

  • .Mov from Final Cut Pro not playing on PC

I've made a short video edited with Final Cut Pro. The file was saved as a .mov QuickTime movie. The demo looked great on a Mac but it has to go to people who only have PCs.
Loaded the demo onto the hard drive of the PC, but the demo is showing poor resolution. It Loaded the latest releases of QuickTime, tried putting QuickTime in safe mode, tried re-setting the screen resolution and tried using different PCs. Still get the same fuzzy screen. Even tried saving the demo in different formats from Final Cut Pro, but still no better.
    Any suggestions? Thanks-- Foster

I have the same problem and need a good solution. On 2 seperate PC's. I believe (but don't know 4 sure) that it is something to do with Quicktime not using the Windows direct X environment.
You could try going into quicktime / Edit / preferences / quicktime preferences / advanced /tick the safe mode GDI only circle ... restart quicktime and try again.

  • Smart Playlist does not play new songs.  Any clue?

I created a Smart Playlist that referes to another Smart Playlist.  This other playlist selects randomly songs that were last played before a certain date.  (So if a song from that playlist is played, it is automatically replaced by another one).  The newly added songs do not seem to be played at all.  I need to restart iTunes to do so.  Any clue?

In principal, putting a Smart Playlist into another Smart Playlist will work. However, if the rules of the Playlists are conflicting, that may be why you have an issue. First of all, can we be clear on exactly which Playlists are doing what?
Are you saying that songs recently added to your iTunes Library are:
    not in the first Playlist,
not in the second Playlist but are in the first one, or
that they are in the second list, but simply don't play.
or that songs, newly added to the second Playlist are there, but don't get played? In this case, how many songs are in the list?
    Can you take screenshots of the two playlists, or list them here. In this screenshot for example;
...this Playtlist refers to five other Smart Playlists. The resulting Playlist is usually over 300 songs. So I don't always know if a song in the list ever gets played, simply because there are so many. I do know however, that the list plays a random selection of my songs and gets updated successfully when I sync the iPod with iTunes.
If you list the Playlists here (rather than screenshot them), can you also mention the top left tick-box section; "match any/all of the following rules". It changes according to the fields below it.
