I had the earlier version of QuickTime Pro and accidentally upgraded to the latest version of Player. How do I get back my earlier version of Pro (I like having the full screen option for presentations) or should I even bother?

This is not an area I have much experience in......I rarely insert DVDs and I have never had a similar problem.
When the DVD is in the drive (and DVD players is open) click on File>get disk info.

X Pro and Flash Player Error with web-based PDF readbook

Everytime I try to view a web-based PDF book (with multiple PDF files) I get an error/alert that reads:
"To View the Flash technology content in this PDF file, please install this version of Flash Player that supports Adobe Reader and Acrobat."
I am currently using:
IE Explorer 9.0.8112.16421
Adobe Reader X 10.1.7
Adobe Acrobat X Pro 10.1.4
Shockwave 12.0.2 Development
I have all of the appropriate settings enabled/disabled in the browser. Before I installed Adobe Acrobat Pro the files opened perfectly in IE9. I believe, but am unsure, that I was just using Reader X at that point.
Of note...the PDF books in question still open perfectly if I DOWNLOAD the file and open it from the desktop. The issue is when I try to view it in the browser(a setting enabled in the preferences). This is an issue because I don't have the time or space to download these files and need to view them in the browser for efficiency.

You would usually get this message if you don't have the Flash Player plugin installed. However I do not quite understand why you get that message when viewing a PDF in the browser, but not when viewing it from your local disk.

Quicktime Pro to Media Player?

Does anyone know if Quicktime Pro will convert my Quicktime creations to play on Windows Media Player? I'm the only Mac user in the building and can't get these people to download Quicktime for Windows(that would be too easy of a solution). / joe

QT Pro cannot by itself do such conversion to .wmv format but plug-ins are available here for the export:

The PC version (but not the Mac version) of WMP will also play avi and mpeg-1 files if you are able to do those conversions. QT Pro as is can convert to avi files with Cinepak encoding but you may not be very happy with the results.

Mac Pro 2014 DVD Player -70017 error: VLC OpenGL is not supported

I am setting up my new 2014 Mac Pro from a mid 2010 Mac Pro via VNC (Finder/Go/Connect to Server) as I only have the Apple 30" Cinema display which is connected to my 2010. I was encountering problems:
1) DVD player would never start, giving the error "DVD Player encountered a system error Error: -70017." If you hit OK the message dismisses and DVD player exits. There is a CNET article that states a -70012 error can happen if you don't have an internal drive. This is, of course, true for the 2014 Mac Pro.
2) VLC gives the error when opening a VIDEO_TS file on disk "OpenGL acceleration is not supported on your Mac. Your Mac lacks Quartz Extreme acceleration ....". It does play videos, but they play extremely slow.
After a hour on the line with Apple Support we determined that the problem is VNC . VNC connections disable some drivers. I connected the keyboard and monitor directly to the 2014 Mac Pro, and both programs worked perfectly. With the programs working I then moved the monitor back to the 2010 and tried to resume playback using VNC. The errors returned.
Just wanted to pass this info along in case someone else encounters the same issue.

2009 Mac Mini running Mountain Lion 10.8.3 with DVD player 5500.38.2
DVD rips with RipIt, stored on a NAS.
iMac will play the rips through DVD player.
Mac Mini will not play rips through DVD player, but will play through VLC.
Mac Mini previously worked, but not sure what version OSX it was running then, could have been pre-Mountain Lion.
Curious about what's causing this. It's a bit frustrating!

Macbook Pro- removed CD player, installed HD-bootable sync?

I removed the cd player in my 17-inch, Late 2011 MB pro and replaced it with a
WD10JPVX Western Digital 1TB WD Blue 2.5" 5400
I just had my 256GB OCZ SSD Vert ex4 crash on me while traveling.. Did not have access to my time capsule or any back up for a week.
So I have partitioned my 1TB drive to keep a bootable copy of my SSD..
How can I automatically keep the bootable copy updated with all changes to the SSD..
I will still use timecapsule and JUst Cloud but this backup will of course alwasy be with me should my SSD have issues again..

You could set it up as another Time Machine drive, but that would mean finding a new drive if your SSD crashed, etc. A better option for you might be to use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a nightly image of your drive. That way you could always boot from the HD and not miss a beat. CCC has a scheduling option, all you'd have to do is leave the machine on.

Loading Lightroom 4 on a MacBook Pro without CD player

I have just rec'd Lightroom 4 from B&H for my MacBook Pro which has no CD player. How do load Lightroom 4 on the MacBook Pro? Can I copy the CD (on another PC) to a Flash Drive USB Memory card and then use this USB card to load up the MacBook Pro?

Yes, you can. Just make sure that "PC" is actually a Mac or the resource tree may get damaghed and the DMG loses its magic...

Excite Pro and XFinity Player App

I have worked with Comcast support to no avail. I own several other Toshiba tablets (THRiVE and Excite 300SE) and have no issues with the XFinity Player app. However, on the Excite Pro, I am unable to receive "autorhization" to stream videos.
On the Excite Pro I am able to download videos from the XFinity Player app. However, they will not play properly. The screen alternates between future/past frames and will not sync.
I have no issues with NetFlix, HBO Go, WatchESPN, YouTube, etc.

It turns out that while I had never launched Kaspersky, it was forcing the WiFi connections to go through its proxy. This proxy was preventing the app from authorizing with my account.
After uninstalling Kaspersky, all is well..... It only took my 4 months to stumble across this.

What to choose for pro recording - MD player or iPod?

I need to record interviews for professional use (44.1KHz - 16bit quality needed), what to choose MD or iPod? I have no experience in the iPod field. Is there some iPod model out on the market that would work for this purpose?

If you are working at a professional level, buy professional equipment designed for the purpose intended.
The iPod has popular capabilities for a consumer market. They fall short of the mark for professional use. While hacked iPods may equal or exceed the specs of some professional digital recorders, the usability of the controls, physical lack of ins and outs, and the fragility of the case make the iPod unsuitable for professional use. For a bit more money, you can get a real pro piece that will hold up under daily use and be warranteed to do the job.
I bought a 4th gen. 40G iPod for recording. It''s nice but it's no R-1, even.

Been ready to buy a Macbook pro for awhile now, but waiting because of REALY wanting it to be able to play blurays and dvd's.
Anyone have any idea IF and WHEN a macbook pro with a superdrive (doesn't need to burn blurays) with Bluray playing ability will be out ????

Will I lose my quicktime pro if i update QT player??

I have an EyeTV (el Gato, the coolest tv system) on my old G4 and just a minute ago, I updated it. Found out there's a wi-fi capability that can upload my recorded tv shows to my iphone (via the internet). So I enabled it but it prompted me to upgrade to the latest QUICKTIME Player.
I have QuickTime 7 Pro and I want to update the "Quicktime Player" and here is my question: If I update the player to 7.4, will it override my QuickTime 7 Pro thereby losing it forever? I haven't used this Pro (or the player, I don't even know if this is a stand alone app. The player just pops when i click on a movie so i can't tell. I think it's one and the same, oh but...) forever and I can't really remember how to use the Pro features already. But I know that it's still there because it's registered and I have the code in my System PReferences and I want to keep it, in case .

No. Any QuickTime 7 Pro key is good for all versions of QuickTime 7 on the same platform, and the only difference between QuickTime Player and QuickTime Pro is whether a valid key has been entered.

Quicktime player saves a much smaller audio file than qt 7 pro

I export the audio part of an m4v video file using QuickTime Player and Quicktime 7 Pro. The latter saves a 10 times larger file regardless of the setting I use. For example an Opera video of 3.72 GB is reduced to 147 MB file by QT player and to a 1.3GB file by QT 7 PRO.
Any idea what is wrong?

My macbook pro freezes every few seconds

About a week ago my MBP started freezing every few seconds showing the well known spinning beach balls every time, even when running no apps, I've sepnt plenty of time looking for a solution, I've read this problem might be due to a physically damaged hard drive, bt I've tested it several times using different apps and it shows no error, I've read from another discussion about Etrecheck as a useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem, so I hope some of you guys can help me checking the log output.
