QT Pro won't export to anything

I admit I'm not a video expert, but I should at least be able to get quicktime to export a video into some sort of useable format.
I recently purchased a Sony HDR-SR12. It records HD video in a format called .MTS. This format apparently hates the Mac and won't work with it. So, I downloaded a program called iSkysoft Video Converter. This would open the .MTS files and convert them to .MOV files.
However, when I open the MOV files in Quicktime, I cannot export them to anything else. Nor can I import anything into iMovie. And this is my main goal. MOV files, AVI files, WMV files... It doesn't matter. I cannot get any of these into iMovie.
I feel this is a question i should post in the iMovie forum. However, the problem seems to start with Quicktime as I cannot even export ANYTHING out of QT. All I get is "qtKitErrorCatchAll (-2166)" error codes and such.
I do have QT Pro 7.6 and am working with OS 10.5.6
Do these programs not work anymore?

OK, I tried removing all the files from the "New Event" folder and adding the MOV files in one-by-one. No dice. All I get is the folder icon and clicking on it gives me the "NO Matching Video" message.
May I assume you did open and close the iMovie application each time you added a file? (I.e., iMovie only scans the folder as the application is opening and would not detect changes in the folder contents otherwise.)
The MOV files do open in quicktime and play just fine. BUT, i can't export them into anything else. i can't even copy a small clip, load it into an empty QT file and save/export to anything w/o getting the same error i was getting in QuickTime before. It's as though QuickTime will do nothing other than play, even though I payed for Pro.
Would have to see a sample file before making any guesses here.
Could it be possible that since I bought QT Pro there's been an update, and, even though it says I have QT 7.6 Pro, it's only a player? OK, not likely if it says pro, but it's not working.
Not that I know of. Does QT Pro work normally with other foes -- i.e., can it edit, trim, copy, save, etc normally?
I mean, if I import a video and it will play, how can it be that i can't export it to anything that iMovie can see? I'm trying not to be a whiner, but this is really frustrating.
It is possible to may QT file "playback only" -- i.e., they can be played but not edited, converted, or saved. However, I just downloaded the application and ran an "evaluation" test and the file was editable, convertible, and re-saveable -- but i the file was a normal SD file as I have no AVCHD content to test.
BTW, the inspector says:
Format: Apple Intermediate Codec, 960 x 540, Millions 16 bit integer (Little Endian) Stereo (LR) 48,000 kHz
Is this what it's supposed to say? If not, any ideas as to what i should do?
Am a little confused here about your work flow. I don't see a specific output for AIC video in the iSkySoft list. So are these MOV files converted directly from AVCHD (MTS/M2TS) files copied to your hard drive or did you convert MOV (AIC/AIFF) files already captured from your camcorderby iMovie '09? Would normally expect iMovie '08/'09 imports to be AIC video with "Big" Endian order rather than "Little" Endian but QT supports both.
Basically, I have never used any of the iSkySoft applications before today so I hesitate to say much about them without more personal experience. Most Intel Mac users either get iMovie '08/'09 to import AVCHD files directly or join the PPC users in copying AVCHD to their hard drive and then converting using the Voltaic HD application which seems to have a very good reputation with many AVCHD users who post here on a regular basis.

  • Acrobat Pro won't export PDF to TIFF

My Acrobat X Pro won't export an engineering drawing PDF to a 1200 dpi TIFF. It says this image is too wide, and recommends I crop the image or lower the resolution. I do not wish to do either.  Why does acrobat care how wide my image is? I need it at 1200, and I need it whole and intact.  How do I get my TIFF image?

Use Photoshop. This is enormously outside the design and intention of Acrobat.

You do know that this is a user to user forum, not an official Adobe support site?
Which means that there is NOT a full time group of people just waiting to answer questions
Don't you think that complaining about nobody answering in less than 2 hours is a little unreasonable?

  • Bluetooth in MacBook Pro won't pair with anything

Hello all.  I have two MacBook Pros, each about 6 months old.  They are both running the latest version of Lion.  Neither one will pair with any bluetooth device.  I always get an error message saying "this device does not have the necessary services".  What does this mean, and how can I fix it?
I have a Canon printer that won't pair, and I thougth it was just a compatibility issue until I tried to pair a Jawbone Jambox (which used to pair), and a brand new Bose portable speaker.  I get the same message every time.
Bluetooth on the computer finds the device,  but can't go through with the pairing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jadrb

I just got a Creative D100 bluetooth speaker and am having the exact same problem you had. Speaker pairs just fine with my ipad, but won't work with MacBook giving me same "This device does not have the necessary services" error message. Have you found a solution yet?

  • MacBook Pro won't boot to anything, help

This problem has to do with bootcamp:
My MacBook Pro isn't giving me either the System Recovery or OSX boot options on startup, I am only able to choose Windows, which now gives me a BSOD.
I installed windows this morning the correct way, with bootcamp assistant. Once in windows, I wanted a partition to share files between OSX and Windows (FAT), so when I tried to accomplish this, I:
-Shrank the windows partition (using disk management in Windows) to about 150gb less than I had originally partitioned it to be with the Bootcamp Assistant.
-Tried to make a new volume out of this unallocated space in OSX because I figured it was safer that way, but OSX showed that it was reading the unallocated space as STILL being a part of the bootcamp partition.
-I decided to create a new volume using Windows' Disk Manager, went through the steps, and it told me that the "New volume will be converted from a dynamic "volume" to a "basic" volume. I thought all was ok, didn't really think it mattered what the new volume was, but it converted all volumes to the green label (I'm guessing that's a basic disk)
-Now I get no option to boot to recovery HD or to OSX, only windows, which gives me a BSOD. (I can start disk repair, but it doesn't fix anything)
Reset PRAM, Reset SMC, tried windows recovery to at least get windows back from the dead.
I don't currently have access to my Lion install flash drive to try and repair my disk, but will by the end of next week. Obviously even if I still get windows working, I cant make a new one because you can only obtain Lion from the App Store. (Is there another way, or some disk repair utility I can install to a flash drive using Windows and then boot to?)
    I guess my questions are:
-Will this accidental conversion of my MacBook volume from Dynamic to Basic effect my files there (Ie. did my stuff get wiped)
Drive letters and names were still there, leading me to believe nothing was formatted.
-Would converting the volumes back to dynamic fix everything?
    Thanks guys

Did some research, what I did was acidentally convert my disks to dynamic, and dynamic doesnt allow you to boot from them, so if I were to plug this macbook's HDD into another computer and them use that computers disk manager to convert them back to basic, would they then be usable again, or have I caused damage that requires a reinstall.
    Thanks

  • Macbook Pro Won't BootUp/Recognize ANYTHING!

    Hello guys,
I was using the TechTool that came with my Apple Care. I noticed that my system was running slowly, even though I wanted to do other things because of it. My system then froze, so I force-shutdown the computer. When I go to restart (and press the option key), I don't see ANYTHING. Even when I try to boot up from the Apple Boot Disk (that came with my MBP), it doesn't recognize it in that screen. All it shows me is a mouse icon which I can move. (Doesn't recognize any USB devices, either). Pressing the "C" key on startup did not work while the disk was inside..
    Any clues?
    Thanks,
    Noam.
EDIT: When I start it up, I hear the chime, and obviously see the white-ish screen. However, I don't see any Apple Logo.

When troubleshooting (if you have not already done so) disconnect all devices from your computer.
"I was using the TechTool that came with my Apple Care. I noticed that my system was running slowly, even though I wanted to do other things because of it. My system then froze,"
Probably because you are using an outdated version of TechTool Deluxe. See Article http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26636 AppleCare Protection Plan CD: How to Update TechTool Deluxe
"it shows me the folder with the flashing question mark. What should I do????"
Try the suggestions mentioned in Article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=31355 Mac OS: Flashing Globe When Computer Turns On or *A folder that has an alternating flashing question mark*
You can also try running +repair disk+ from your *software install DVD* and afterwards, run +repair permissions+ *from your HD.*

Sorry.  I do not have an answer.  My movie was much longer but only 640x480.  The upload page is different than it was the last time that I used it.  It is much simpler now but seemed confusing at first.  There was a line near the top of the window that made me think athere was a problem but the upload soon finished.  I think youtubes video quality has improved.  Maybeupload a previously uploaded file, change the name,  to see if it works

  • Premiere Pro Won't Export a Stop Motion Video Without Making it a Complete Mess

I'm having the problem I described in the title.  I can't fix it on my own.

OK, so what codec are you using when you export?  Does it match the sequence settings?
It might be a problem with Windows Media Player - try opening the file in a different player (like quicktime) to rule that out.
Also, what is the image format of the stills in the sequence?  Sometimes Premiere doesn't like jpegs for some reason.
Finally, there are alternatives - you could use Photoshop or After Effects instead.

  • Acrobat pro won't export to word

tried saving pdf as word doc and program just spins

I was basically suggesting you get away from the document you have, at least in total, and see if the function works for you. It may be a bad PDF and at this point you want to check if the basic functionality works. So you could extract a single page or create a new 1-page PDF to try. Keep it simple. It may be a particular graphic that is the cause of the hang up. At this point you have 2 steps: 1. check to be sure the function works and 2. try to isolate the problem to a specific page or graphic if it appears to be the PDF. If you can post the PDF, others of us can also check the PDF out (try Acrobat.com or Dropbox -- be sure to make public).

  • Suddenly Media Encoder won't export to .avi from a Premiere Pro sequence

Came back to work today and out of the blue Media Encoder just won't export to .avi from a Premiere Pro sequence. Working with CS5 on Windows 7. That was the last thing I did yesterday before leaving work and it worked just fine, and it has always worked without any problems ever since I upgraded from CS4.
Here are the steps I always take: go to Export-->Media from the Premiere Pro sequence and the settings open up, I select Microsoft AVI - PAL DV, click the queue button, AME opens up but nothing loads, the queue remains empty and nothing happens.
I tried the same but selected MPEG-2 instead and it works that way.
I also tried opening the sequence directly from AME and it does it but it doesn't give me the option to export it to Microsoft AVI, it's just not on the list.
I deleted all preferences and old metadata options saved from all applications but that didn't help.
Didn't install any updates whatsoever that might have changed anything at all from yesterday till now.
If anyone knows what the problem might be and how to fix it, that will be truly appreciated, thanks in advance.

After a couple of hours going through the registry and every folder and file inside "Program Files--Adobe--Media Encoder CS5" and trying to find the problem, I did.
Thing is, the ExportAVI.prm plug-in file wasn't missing, it was there in the "Plug-ins--common" folder together with every other exporter and importer file, it just wasn't being loaded by AME for some reason. So i found a folder named "txt" and inside it there was a file named "AddExporterList.txt" which I opened and, as you could probably imagine from its pretty self-explanatory name, it contained a list of the exporter files that AME was supposed to load, and the AVI one wasn't on the list.
I wasn't sure wether it was best for me to edit that text file and add the AVI exporter to the list or just delete the damn thing, so i checked on an older PC with the CS4 suite installed in it and the "txt" folder didn't even exist, so I just deleted it and opened up AME again and it loaded every single exporter .prm file including the ExporterAVI.prm of course and it works just fine now, so that's a load off my shoulders, hope this might help someone else in the future.

  • OMF won't export out of final cut pro.

Exporting a 93min 1920x1080 HD timeline to OMF
5 second handles tried 2 second handles as well.
OMF won't export out of final cut pro. Get error message there is a 2 gb limit.
    Final cut 6.0.6
Have deadline. Didn't see it on any forum. Help!! Thanks!!

Seems like a weird thing to not be able to do since it's called final cut PRO...
Bagging on Final Cut Pro for OMF? HA! OMF has been around LONG BEFORE FCP was introduced. It isn't an FCP issue...OMF technology is VERY old. Over 20 years I believe. I used it on Avid...and it always had a 20GB limit.
You cannot deliver 1 track via OMF. You can ask the audio person. I know that Avid now allows you to export an AAF...but FCP doesn't do AAF. For embedded audio I think that OMF is the only way. SO you have to work within the limitations of that format.

  • Need a printer for my old iBook (old apps won't translate) but also for a MacBook Pro, 10.6.8! Anything compatible?

Need a printer for my old iBook (old apps won't translate) but also for a MacBook Pro, 10.6.8! Anything compatible?

If I understand this correctly, you wish to print from the iBook under Mac OS 9.2.x and from the MacBook Pro under Mac OS X 10.6.8 (no AppleTalk support in the latter).
What type of printer did you have in mind? Does it have to be colour? Otherwise, a monochrome laser printer may be the best choice (high print quality and a low per page cost). A networkable PostScript printer may be the most compatible. Additional information would make it easier for someone here to suggest a solution.
If you would be willing to accept some extra work and certain limitations, another way could possibly be to "print" to a PDF file on the iBook via a printer driver called PrintToPDF, and then transfer this file to the MacBook Pro and carry out the "real" printing there.
