QT Pro won't play MPEG 2

I used to be able to play MPEG 2 video on QT Pro but can't now. I'm on version 7.4.5. Has Apple removed that functionality?

All I'm trying to do is review the MPEG 2 files I've compressed in Bitvice, something I used to do all the time, but now can't.
If you are trying to "view" them using QT, then you must have the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) installed as mentioned above. If you previously purchased and installed the component, then simply go to your account at the online Apple Store and download the file again and reinstall it. (Just make sure you install the newer 6.4.1 and later QT version as the package also contains the older pre-QT 6.4 version as well.)
If you are just trying to view them, remember QT is not the only video player capable of viewing MPEG-2, MPEG, VOB, M2V, etc files.

I copied a DVD with an external Sony DVD burner using Nero Start Smart. It is an MPEG Movie file, but when i try to open it with Quicktime Pro, it says Error 2048: the file is not a movie file. Is there any way that i may be able to fix this problem?

QT doesn't play mpeg2 unless you purchase the $20 mpeg2playbackcomponent from the Apple Store. Be aware that it will not play some mpegs, such as those using transport_stream Vobs. It also will not play AC3 sound. This freeware will overcome some of those limitations :

MacBook Pro won't play .mov or .wmv files.

Since "upgrading" to Lion my MacBook Pro won't play .mov or .wmv files, all I get is a black screen and the audio. It's so frustrating!!
I've read many other posts all along the same lines and wherever possible I've tried to follow the advice which has been given but nothing works.    I've updated all the drivers I can and I've even reinstalled Lion, nothing makes a difference.
I'm not really looking for any more advice, all I want is someone from Apple to read these posts, realise there is problem and get working on a fix or update.
I had no problems when running Snow Leopard and it would seem, looking at everyone else's problems, that the common issue is Lion.   Seriously, this is one area where Lion is a backwards step.   It should just work (like most things from Apple), but it doesn't.
Personally I believe there is a problem with Lion but from what I've found out from speaking to friends with other Apple kit, this might be a random issue only affecting some people as some have said they've had no problems while others have had the same issues as me.    One guy reinstalled Lion and it resolved the issue for him, I've not been as lucky.
As I say, I'm not really looking for more advice, simply some sort of update from Apple to fix it.   PLEASE!!!

This is a peer-to-peer user forum. Perhaps you would see more action if you and others would file a formal "Bug" report with Apple QuickTime technical people rather than repeatedly reporting a possible problematic problem which may or may not affect others on a random basis. Since you aren't seeking further advice here is what I have observed. Not being a regular WMV file user, I had to create my own sample file to test—a WMV 9 file containing WMV3 compressed video and WMA2 compressed audio. Since I normally use QT 7 as my primary media player, I also stored the WMV data in its partially decompressed form in an MOV file container to avoid pre-playback delays in "classic" player routines and also provide a secondary playback test of MOV wrapped content. These files play as follows using the Flip4Mac component/player support and uncoded URL uploads:
QT 7.6.6 "Open File" - both files play correctly.
QT 7.6.6 "Open URL" - both files play correctly.
QT X.1 "Open File" - WMV file plays correctly. MOV file plays video without audio.
QT X.1 "Open Location" - WMV file appears to open but plays with "black" screen and no audio. MOV file plays video without audio.
VLC "Open File" - WMV plays correctly. MOV file doesn't open,
VLC "Open URL" - WMV file plays correctly. MOV file appears to open but nothing plays.
MPEG Streamclip "Open File" - both files play correctly.
MPEG Streamclip "Open URL" - both files play correctly.
GarageBand - WMV file will not import but MOV file does.
iTunes - WMV file will not import. MOV file container is accepted but as soon as iTuness sees the compression formats, it aborts import.
Safari - WMV file URL auto-downloads and playes in the QT X.1 Player. The MOV file URL opens and plays in Safari.
As you can see from these results the files do play but are subject to many different constrints based on old/new video technology support, independent QT subsets and/or container trapping constraints. In short, individual user results will depend on presence/absence of component support, actual compression formats, file container, application being used, and how the application is being used. Unfortunately, most users here can't or won't provide the prerequisite information or a sample file for independent examination. This makes it next to impossible to give advice in these matters or categorize the specific nature of the problem.

1. System Preferences > Other/ Flash Player > Advanced > Delete All
     Press the "Delete All" button
     Install Adobe Flash Player.

    Follow the prompts.
    Quit Safari.
    Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
2. Allow Plug-ins
    Safari > Preferences > Security
    Internet Plug-ins > "Allow plug-ins"
    Enable it.

Premiere Pro won't play media intermittently in Yosemite

I have a Premiere Pro CC 2014 (2014.1 Release, the latest one) installed on Yosemite 10.10.
It's running on a Macbook Pro (Early 2011 model) with 16gb of RAM, 512GB SSD, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon 6750 Card with 1GB of RAM.
On Mavericks 10.9.5 it all ran perfectly.
On Yosemite I have intermittent problem with media playing.
After a restart if I open Premiere Pro and open any of my projects it will say media loaded, however it won't play it. If you hit play nothing happens. The videos won't show either in source window or timeline. Quitting the program results in a hang. I have to force quit the application and than I get an error Premiere Pro encountered a serious error. Upon second program open, the media will work fine and everything will work fine. That's until I turn off the computer or restart it and than it's over again. I have to open the program, force quit it and only than it will work.
I cleared Premiere's preferences, caches, moved media to a different drive, reinstalled Premiere Pro and even clean installed the operating system. The problem persists.
What's interesting is that if I open Premiere after a restart and start a NEW project, import the media and start editing, it will work. When I save it and quit and than open the program again it will show the same problem and I'll have to force quit it after which it will work again.
The only plugin I have is Neat Video 3.6.
This problem is really annoying and I hope someone can help me solve it out.

Shouldn't Adobe be the one updating to account for video card driver changes? I thought that was the benefit of paying monthly?
We test all GPUs with current drivers, but new drivers can come out faster than releases of Premiere Pro. Also, we can't update Premiere Pro every time there is a driver update. That would be pretty difficult to pull off. Sorry.
If not, please advise on which NVIDIA graphics driver will actually work with PrPro. Because this is NOT working. Currently running: CUDA Driver Version: 6.5.45
Typically, we recommend that you install the latest drivers for your GPU. It sounds like you have done so. Most people are having best success with these drivers on systems running OS X 10.10.2. Are you updated to that version?
It renders out complete videos with weird pixel bugs across them.
When did it start behaving this way? After installing the new drivers? After updating OS X? After updating a Premiere Pro project from Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 (8.1) to Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2)? Not to mention, it crashes 10 times a day...running back to FCPX.
If you're crashing that many times per day, you should troubleshoot your system with our agents. Contact them M-F 7AM-7PM PST. Ask for the "video queue." You can either chat or get a phone call going: Contact Customer Care
The other possibility is that by updating OS X, you may have changed the read write permissions of crucial Adobe folders. See this article for an explanation and a potential fix:
Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)
I also recommend the following steps for Mac users having trouble crashing on Mavericks or Yosemite:
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
Update any GPU drivers
Trash preferences
Delete media cache
Delete preview files
Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
Disable App Nap
Reboot
Let us know if any of these steps worked for you.

Quicktime won't play MPEG-4

Hello,
am I missing something, as I have Quicktime Pro and i want to play a clip with the following codecs:
codec: MPEG-4 Video, AMR Narrowband, MPEG-4 SDSM, MPEG-4 ODSM
channel count: 1
I get the sound, but image is pixalated. Do I have to tweak or download something?

Thanks for your input, but you are not listening to what i am saying.
The phone is a Sony Ericsson p910i which is a pretty up to date phone, but i will check their site and see if theres any info on there.
This is not an issue of quality. I tried using other players. The player VLC plays back the clips perfectly, but with no sound. So i can see everything I have recorded perfectly. Granted, its not high definition, but its a mobile phone clip and i can tell whats happening.
QT plays back the clip with sound but no picture. Nada. Zilch. Nothing. A black screen with a couple of green pixalated blocks.
If i try to drop the clips into iMovie, they are not recognised.
So, what i was hoping someone could tell/explain to me, is does QT play MPEG-4?

QT Pro won't play avi or mov movie

I've download the latest QT Pro but it still won't play the video portion of an AVI or MOV video. What else do I need. I find it incredible that you have to go to this much work to play a video on a MAC.

I just updated QTpro and I can't get audio to play on avi or mov. It's started out and then kept disappearing and now nothing. Major drag.

Quicktime Player Pro won't play any movies?

Ever since I restored my computer about a month ago, my Quicktime Player won't play any video formats correctly. .avi files don't play anymore, and mp4 files only play sound with the screen black. Then when I try to close the application, I get the pinwheel for a long time, thus making me force quit every time. How can I fix this so it can play movies correctly?
(I'd also like to know how to get it to play .mka format movies as well)

There are a lot of possible CODECS used with .AVI file, not all of which are available for the QuickTime player.
If you just want to play the AVI files use the free VLC media player found at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

All of a sudden my burnt cds from my macbook pro won't play in my Mac but will play in a PC or a DVD player! Itunes

all of a sudden when I burn cds on my Mac they won't play & tost titanium & Itunes reading them as blanks, but the cds will play in a PC or a DVD player. For some reason Mac not reading the discs. Even hooked up an external burner & cleaned the drive to no avail, weird, was wondering if anyone had a solution to my problem?

You can't boot OS X with a Windows boot device.
Internet Recovery is the next step. Follow ssls6's advice.

I exported mov files from Final Cut. But Quicktime won't play them.

Help!! Deadline looming! Nothing happens when I press play on any window or spacebar in Premiere Pro. The play button turns to stop and nothing else happens. I have also installed Premiere CS6 and everything works fine there.

Macbook Pro won't play any videos on any browser or any site

Videos on youtube, tumblr, facebook, amazon instant, netflix and any other video I come across will not play and will not even start to load on my macbook pro. I have uninstalled and reinstalled flash, I have cleared all website data, I have cleared my history, I downloaded chrome (and the problem did not change on the new browser), I have restarted my computer multiple times, and nothing seems to work. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know how to fix it?

I would, first of all, try another browser. If you don't already have it, try Firefox, if it works ok in Firefox I would try resetting Safari.(uncheck "remove saved names and passwords" if you don't have them written down anywhere)

Embedded QT Pro won't play

What am I doing wrong?
I make a movie in QT Pro and export for web and I put these files on my server:
QuickTime Movie (small file)
M4V File (big file)
Poster (jpg image)
Then in the same directory I put the embedded <head> and <body> HTML from the read me page in an HTML file.
When I access the file, I get the player with the poster picture but when I click play the blue QT symbol turns dark blue and a Question mark shows up in the middle.

New Mac Pro Won't play back

I'm having a problem with my new Mac Pro 2.66 I keep getting the error, "couldn't keep up". I've got maybe 5 tracks (Kontakt 2,Real Guitar, and EXS) and a couple plug ins and I can't get it to play. I press the space bar and it spins for a sec...plays maybe 1 second and then quits...pops up with the message saying it couldnt access info fast enough. I had my samples on a different computer networked via gigabit but some said that was the problem so I transfered them to a seperate internal (sata 2) drive and it still doesn't work. My CPU is either very low or it maxes out 2 or 3 of the cores before the freeze. I can't believe this is happening with this machine. This is why I got a new one. anyways...thanks for all suggestions.

On my old PC with Logic 5.51 have I no problems.
I must press play on the mac again and again and than Logic

Quicktime Pro won't play my .avi videos

I got a bunch of .avi videos, they are encoded using xvid codec. They play fine in media player but don't play at all in Quicktime. What codecs do I need for Quicktime Pro 7?

You need a codec that plays the compression a particular avi is encoded in. You can try these two sites for codecs that play most recent avi files
