Qt toolkit takes hours to install?

I read on this http://www.zetcode.com/articles/qt4/ that it takes qt hours to install. Isn't there s a package out there that is already compiled? It's taking a while and I was expecting to learn qt right away as I don't have much time until spring break is over.

the qt package is the toolkit as well?
Then how do I get #include <QApplication> to work?
This stuff is very confusing, I just want to move beyond shell programming with cout..

Takes hours to install windows 8 on 5k Imac

The first thing i did when i got my maxed out 5k retina Imac with 1 TB fusion drive is i installed windows 8.1 on it using bootcamp. That was 5 months ago. a few weeks back i was experiencing crashes and generally a very laggy windows so i decided to uninstall, unpartition and re-install windows all over again. Thats where i am having problems.
After the system restarts and the windows installation begins, i notice that it lags as if it it loading when i am clicking the next button which it didnt before and it is extremelly slow when installing, i figured i would let it get it done, it took maybe 5-6 hours to finish installing everything. After the installation was complete windows was also extremely slow and laggy, basically just froze every 2-3 seconds or whenever i tried clicking to start up windows explorer or any other task i wanted to do.
Although everything is working fine and running smoothly on my MAC side of the system.
I have tried reinstalling OS x and trying again, i have also tried repairing my hard drives using disk utility but still got the same issue.

Windows is installed on the HDD, not the SSD (bootcamp default). You can force Windows installation manually on the SSD, but it is a 120GB SSD. On my Macminis, with a DIY Fusion drive, I have a 256g/512g SSD (depending the Mini usage) and a 1TB HDD, and I do not re-install Windows since I have put it on the SSD side.
If you use Yosemite, it uses a CS volume, which is a combination of an SSD and HDD. The Fusion implementation moves blocks around based on frequency of access and usage. Yosemite can handle the IO overhead on a fragmented drive, but Windows cannot. My suggestion is to
1. Back up OSX using Time Machine - Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support.
2. Boot into Internet Recovery - OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support.
3. Erase your internal drive and restore from the TM backup in Step 1 - OS X Yosemite: Recover your entire system.
Please be aware that TM does not backup Bootcamp partitions. Once Windows is installed, do not remove it. If you must, run the same steps again. It is unfortunate that these types of performance issues are not documented any where for the user to take corrective action.

Update2: There is something very wrong with wireless on mountain lion recovery. I don't know what the problem is, but this link may explain:

Wireless recovery would start out with over 25 hours estimated and kept on failing. It turns out to be a two step process of downloading a few Mbytes then a 4Gbyte .dmg file, but I couldn't even download the Mbyte file. I bought the thunderbolt to gigabit ethernet adapter, plugged it in, restarted recovery and download of a little more than 4Gbytes took less than an hour. My limiting factor was probably comcast home internet rate of 12Mbps. The wi-fi wireless connection should be able to do over 100Mbps, so wireless shouldn't be much slower than wired, except wi-fi wireless is broken. Now that ML is installed and updated, wi-fi seems fine now, as I am using it right now, but I haven't tried downloading a big file yet.
Don't use wi-fi wireless for Mountain Lion recovery.

Slow Performance - Add/Modify Protectiongroup, Refresh Agent, ... take hours

Hi all,
I freshly installed DPM 2012 SP1 on a clean Windows Server 2012 (Intel Xeon E5-2609 @ 2,4Ghz, 16GB RAM).
The protection data gets stored on an internal RAID5 with 12TB. Firewall is disabled.
At this moment there are 39 protected datasources in 6 protection groups.
My problem is, that the easiest jobs take hours:
- refresh of the protection agents (up to 2 hours)
- press "finish" at the "modify protection group"-wizzard (more than 1 hour)
- expand our Win2008R2 Failovercluster with 80 VMs at "new protection group"-wizzard (dont know how long it will take, until now i didnt get it expanded after hours of waiting...)
Under these circumstances DPM is not practicable!
Can anyone help? I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

If you break up your protection groups do they refresh quicker? have you applied the latest rollups or upgraded to R2?

Sync takes hours

My new 3Gs takes hours for the SYNC to complete, and not just the first time, everytime, this is really annoying, I have deleted and reinstalled Itunes 8.2, no help, reset the Iphone via Itunes. My computer is a home built running a AMD 3500 chip, 2 megs of RAM, G-Force 6600, and Windows XP home with all the updates, please help!

Typically this is a data corruption...mostly with an installed app...ESPN is known to cause this issue...remove it and reinstall the app...if you don't have ESPN then try to remember the last few apps you installed and remove each of them until you find the one that causes the lag...then reinstall the app again...
Removing all apps may be needed if you dont remember which apps are recently added...just remove them all and then reinstall..
99% of the time this will fix your issue...
1% you may need to do a full restore...just remember to NOT select "restore from backup" and be sure to USE "restore as new iPhone"
Using the back up to restore just puts the corrupt data right back on...

8 hours to install Logic Studio?

i just bought a 2.4Ghz 15" unibody macbook pro. i also installed 4 gigs of RAM and I opted for the 250Gb 7200RPM drive.
i am now installing Logic Studio and i chose to have everything installed.
i am really surprised to see the Logic Studio installer said it will take 8 hours to install! right now, it's at 7 hours and 17 minutes.
i installed this same copy/version of Logic Studio on my Dual 2.0 G5 (that only had about 1.5Gigs of RAM) about a year ago and i remember it taking only 2 - 3 hours to install.
why is it taking much longer to install on a much faster machine?

Hahahaha... I went into 'panic mode' when I first started to install Logic. Said something like 5 hours and it was already 9 at night. It (Logic) was completely loaded by 11:15 so as I'm sure you've found by now, don't worry about what your screenshot says. Hope this helps anyone else who has yet to install the program. ~King

I just purchased an iMac 27 inch i7 and when I'm trying to install pro logic it is taking hours to install. I'm on the 3rd disc and it's been going on 4 hours. Do I have a defective DVD drive or is there some kind of fix available? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a thread here about the exact thing!! Although I thought it was due to the SSD in here or the HDD. I have both. Its neither, its the superdrive!! And its not specific to ANY app. I installed 6 or 8 games anywhere from 2 to 20 GB each. All take a ridiculous amount of time to install. I have spent HOURS installing just FCP application's DVD NOT THE CONTENT. Its terrible.
I know its the superdrive, or something related to the superdrive, because I just went to best buy and purchased a portable, LG brand, 8 X DVD drive and attached it. Its TEARING through the audio content dvd that took almost 3 hours to install last night. It's 90% through and its only been 12 minutes. Your problem is exactly like mine and I originally thought it was my SSD but the content isn't even going on my SSD. Ots going on my HDD.
What really ***** is that I JUST received this after having it built. Now I have to drag this heavy monster down to the Apple store for repair and do without...again.

installed 10.5.7 this morning and my MacBook Pro now takes hours to start up and when it does, runs extremely slowly. i really need my laptop back quickly as i have work in for tomorrow. please help.

We can't help you unless you provide us more information. Your problem could be caused by literally any of ten million things.... Please do the following:
1. Run Terminal. Type "top -o CPU" (without the quotes) and press return. You will see a list of processes that are running, updated once per second. If anything (other than top) is using more than single-digit percentages of CPU power while idle, do a select-all and copy, then paste the relevant bits into a message in this thread.
AFTER you post that information, then do this:
2. Do a verbose boot (command-V). At some point, the messages will stop flashing onto the screen rapidly and will start to come on the screen much less frequently. Make a note of the last few lines printed before it starts getting slow and the first few lines afterwards. Type those lines into a post in this thread.
My gut says the problem will be obvious after #1, which is why I want to get that information into the thread BEFORE you go and do a boot that might take an hour or more.

I just upgraded from Aperture 2 to Aperture 3 and installed latest updates to Aperture 3.2.2 and I have a message at the bottom of the browser: "Face detection..." with a spinning wheel. This has been going for over an hour. But it took six hours for Aperture 3 to upgrade my Aperture 2 library (approximately 60,000 photos). Am I looking at the same sort of time frame for "face detection"?

Thanks for the info... but I just answered my own question: I went to Aperture Preferences (thanks to someone's suggestion that this is where to turn off Faces) and an activity screen popped up showing Face detection progress. (Cool!) It's going thru all my images... and right now the status is 4,080 of 55,182. Very nice. So looks like I have a few more hours to go!
