QT X - Absolutely HORRIFIC!

You can't even delete the new amateur version of quicktime and have it open all your old files with QT Pro 7.
APPLE!?!?! ARE YOU A CONSUMER ONLY COMPANY NOW!?!?!? Where's the professional user support? I'd be happy to beta test your products in the future, so you don't make stupid mistakes like this again!
And get that stupid transport controller out of the movie window as well... It may not be as "PRETTY" but it's a **** of a lot more functional for professionals, when examining clips.
ARGGG!!

I have SL installed on an external disk and have playing with it quite a bit. I finally deleted Quicktime Player from the Applications folder, renamed my Quicktime 7 Pro that had been installed in the Utilities folder and moved it there and entered my Pro Key info. I also copied the Quicktime 7 "QuickTime Plugin.plugin" and the "QuickTime Plugin.webplugin" files from the Internet Plug-Ins folder of my existing Leopard 10.5.8 installation. Afterward, I changed all the "Open With..." preferences to open with the version 7 (renamed) Quicktime Player and deleted all Quicktime related plist files. Then I repaired permissions and restarted.
There are lots of Quicktime X support files still scattered among my /System/*/ folders. I fully expect something to blow up as a result; this is admittedly a rather ham handed procedure on my part, but so far so good. To my eye, Quicktime X looks like an awkward first effort and seems to take away more than it adds for my workflow. I suspect it will all get fixed or we will all cave in eventually.

I am very happy with my Portege R835, except for the sata-issue....severely limiting my SSD speed, as I as many others bought this computer specifically because I thought it supported Sata 3. It is absolutely horrific of Toshiba to limit the sata speeds without telling their customers about it!! They will definitely lose thousands of customers on this rather stupid move of theirs. Unbelievable!! Why ruin such a good computer. Sell customers a Ferrari not telling them it's speed limited to 80mph. Toshiba; be up front about such vital information to your customers!!!

    Dear Hubert:
I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you not one but two absolutely horrific customer service experiences that I have had with Best Buy. These situations have been so bad that I would be doing your company a disservice by not sharing this. Please note the subject line contains two different orders. The first order was placed online November 16th. I’d like to start my story there.
My mother in law and father in law are both elderly and disabled and on fixed income. It came to my attention during a visit with them on November 14th that their current dishwasher was broken and that a service call to repair it would be nearly as much as a new dishwasher. As a result, I decided to place an order online with bestbuy.com for a new replacement dishwasher. I was quoted a delivery date of November 29, which was a little further out than what I would have preferred, but I understand that this is a busy time of year, so I notified my in-laws of the delivery date. I was told that I would receive a call the day before delivery with a two hour window of time to have the dishwasher delivered.
November 28th came and went and I did not receive a call with a delivery window, so I decided to call shortly before 5 PM CST. The operator let me know that the window had not been determined yet and that they had until 9 to give me a call but that I was indeed on the schedule for delivery. Nine PM came and went with no call. I was disappointed.
At 8 AM on November 29th, I called the customer service number. I was told that someone from Best Buy was trying to get in touch with the dispatcher at your contracting company and would call me back within 30 minutes to give me my delivery window. I waited for more than two hours without a returned call, so I called again. I was told that the rep wasn’t sure what happened but that I was indeed on the schedule for the day and that they would call me to tell me when the dishwasher would be delivered. These first two calls took place when I was driving from Des Moines to Chicago.
I arrived in Chicago and still hadn’t received a call. I’m sure you can appreciate that I was frustrated at this point but I finally got someone who I felt had some kind of idea what was going on. I was told that yes, the dishwasher was still scheduled to be delivered on the 29th (it was almost 5 PM by this time) but that installation of the dishwasher was not included. Of course, I said no problem, I’ll just add that to the order. I was informed at that time that it wasn’t possible. The specific reason I don’t recall but I did confirm that installation is not a purchase option when purchasing online. I was advised that my best option would be to go into a physical store and cancel the existing order and place a new one. The agent told me that I could cancel the order with her if I’d like, but I told her I wanted to keep the order open in the event that the delivery team showed up, and that I would handle the installation myself. The agent did advise that the order was in an “R” status, but wasn’t really sure what that meant, It should come as no surprise at this point that the dishwasher was not delivered.
On November 30th, I went into your store in Chicago. I spoke with a gentleman named Marcus who was extremely helpful. He told me that yes, the order was indeed in an “R” status, but that the dishwasher itself was actually backordered until December 15th. Having already waited two weeks, I asked if I chose a different dishwasher, could I get it delivered sooner. He checked on the new dishwasher that I wanted, that was more expensive than the original that I had chosen and said yes, this was possible as early as December 3rd. Imagine my delight! I confirmed with my in-laws that the third was not a good day as they both had doctors appointments and were not sure of their extended availability. So we agreed on December 4th for delivery and installation. At this time, I canceled my first order, and placed my second order referenced in the subject line above. I left the store feeling very happy and comfortable that despite the nearly 4 hours I had already spent on the phone, I had finally gotten the results that I was looking for and made a note to myself that for appliances, I should always just go right into the store. Sure enough, that evening, I received an email from bestbuy.com that confirmed my delivery date of December 4th (attached).
The afternoon of December 3rd came and I had not heard anything about a delivery window by about 6 PM. I called in to the service number and was told that I was not on the delivery list for the 4th, but there was no explanation as to why. The agent couldn’t quite tell and then called the dispatcher and gave me a confirmation that sure enough, it was scheduled to be delivered on the 4th as I was previously told, but they had to “force schedule” the delivery. This was confusing to me because I had already been given a confirmation on November 30th. Sure enough however, I did receive another email confirmation, this one saying that my order had been rescheduled for December 4th (attached).
The morning of December 4th, I needed to board a plane for a wedding in Arizona. I assured my in-laws that based on our most recent email that I was confident that the dishwasher would be delivered and installed today as promised. I was disappointed again when late in the afternoon, I called to find out that there was no delivery and no attempt to contact my in laws with a delivery window. So again, I called Best Buy. Again, I got a very friendly and seemingly knowledgeable rep on the phone. I was told that Best Buy had been in touch with the dispatcher and that the dishwasher was literally on the way to the house as I spoke on the phone. After ending the call, I called my in-laws and let them know that they should expect someone shortly as the dishwasher was en route.
Imagine my absolute contempt for your company when I got out of a rehearsal dinner to a voicemail from my inlaws saying that nearly four hours later (and after 10 PM CST), Best Buy was a no show. It was at this point that I absolutely lost my patience and made yet ANOTHER call into Best Buy. I was told at that time, there was nothing that could be done and that I would need to call back in the morning. So again, first thing in the morning, I called in and spoke to another rep. AGAIN, I was promised that someone would contact me before noon. AGAIN, noon came and went and nobody called me, so I called Best Buy again. In fact, I made a total of six phone calls on Friday. Each time, I was told something different. Each time, you absolutely underwhelmed me with the inability to address a very simple problem, and most importantly made me feel that my value to your organization is insignificant.
Saturday after the wedding, I made one final call to Best Buy. I got a gentleman on the phone who was as nice and seemingly as knowledgeable as every person that I had spoken with to date. He made no promises. He put me on hold several times to see what he could do to help me. At the end of the call, he said that regardless of all of the run around, the hassle, the miscommunication, lack of follow through on promised return calls, no shows on delivery dates and absolute lies that I had been told, he simply couldn’t do anything to improve my situation. His name was Pedro, and he should be commended for his empathy and his honesty. I accepted the first confirmed appointment that he could schedule, December 15th, 2014. I was told that I will be getting a call with a window for scheduled delivery and installation. At this point, after having become completely disgusted with this process, I’ve not even informed my in-laws that the new date is Monday. At this point, they know I’m still working on things.
After examining my mobile phone bill from November 16 to this current date, on my mobile phone alone, I show that I’ve spent 193 minutes on the phone with Best Buy. This does not include calls from my office, from my in-laws and from the hotel. The total for those calls has got to be close, if not more time. This does not include the amount of time I spent in the store either. I can also tell you from my mobile phone bill alone that between November 16 until this moment, I have called from my mobile phone 19 times. Nineteen times. Think about that for a minute. Think of close to 6 hours of your employee’s time, and more importantly, of my time. This is lost productivity out of my day. I’m a software consultant and my life is made up of billable hours, its where my income is derived from. You’ve effectively stolen that much money out of my pocket in addition to treating me and my family like nothing more than a number with no regard as to what it means to put a customer first and keep a long time loyal member satisfied.
I’ve since been able to find the dishwasher at Sears and at ABT (a local retailer) on sale for $539.99. As with most products, I purchase, I do have other options and I place a high degree of value on my time and money. I place an even higher degree of value of knowing that when I give someone my word, it’s the most important thing I have to reflect my character, reputation and is a key indicator for my intentions.
Knowing there are other options out there, I give you my word that I will be considering all of my future purchasing options accordingly based on the results of this transaction (that hasn’t even been completed yet – so who knows, I may not even be out of the woods).
    Regards,
    Lane
Follow up - when they did deliver it, they hauled the old dishwasher away.  Three days later, someone from the same subcontractor showed up to pick up the old dishwasher - THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN TAKEN AWAY.  Talk about not knowing what you're doing!

    Hello Lane,
There is very little more frustrating than having a delivery not be completed on time, not to mention having additional appointments missed. I certainly understand your frustration over the numerous calls you made in trying to resolve the delivery of your in-laws new dishwasher and I sincerely and wholly regret that this was your experience last winter. Since we strive to provide clear, accurate, and timely communication to you and our other customers, I am at a loss to explain the many, many missteps you describe and I apologize sincerely for the less that stellar showing on our part.
In reviewing your situation, I note that we issued responses to both emails you sent, both from your Twitter conversation with us and the original copy of the missive that you've provided here. Was there something in particular you were looking for in our original responses you didn't find, or that left you feeling unheard? Since this series of events occurred nearly six months ago, I'm wondering if something new has happened that has brought this incident back to the fore?
Please know that I'm very grateful that you took the time to write to us with your concerns.
    Sincerely,

  • Good Idea, Bad Idea: Daisy-chaining external hard drives

I'm about to buy a White Macbook (maxing out RAM) which has one Firewire 400 port.
I currently use a Firebox to record audio and I know that I will need an external hard drive. The consensus is that Firewire is far superior than USB 2.0 due to a stable transfer rate.
However, I'm wondering which is superior in this case- getting a Firewire 400 external hard drive (7200rpm of course) and daisy-chaining it, or getting a USB 2.0 hard drive?
I typically only record 2 tracks at a time with my Firebox, but I would prefer it if I could use it to its full capacity and record 6 if I wanted to. I assume that this will have a great effect on it when daisy-chained.
With my current machine (details listed below), I get messages all the time from Logic Pro telling me I'm overloading it or maxing it out or whatever. In buying a new machine, I strongly desire not to have these problems again, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm under the impression there isn't a laptop being currently produced that has two Firewire 400 slots and is capable of running Logic Pro. Apple's offering has two choices - 1 Firewire 400 slot in the White Macbook for $999, and 1 Firewire 800 slot in the Macbook Pro line, starting at $1999. It is absolutely horrific, I know, but I didn't design the current line.
Since the biggest advantages between the $1999 model and the $999 model have very little to do with audio editing, I decided against the extra grand for some fancy new toys.
    Advantages of higher-end:
    A) Better graphics card
    B) 0.3 Ghz more processing power
    C) multi-touch trackpad
    D) environmentally friendly
    E) possibility of installing a solid state drive- at 128 GB.
My current machine was upgraded once, but was quickly smited back to original specs by a power surge (seriously- all I lost were the upgrades). It has since then been a bit of a finicky computer. It freezes now and then, and the kernel errors are frustrating. Plus, it's noisy.
So yeah- I would totally take you up on the notion of upgrading my current machine first, but it's not really worth the trouble anymore.
I've also posted before and have been told that pretty much any Mac I buy now will be far superior than my current machine.
That being said, I suppose I ought to look into USB 2.0 external drives.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Advice for what to look for? If I could find one that is 9600rpms, will that make a difference or is 7600rpm pretty much the max for the 400mbs transfer speed? Any suggestions for external drives that use both Firewire and USB 2.0? Any other ideas in general?

  • In what universe did you guys think this was a good looking UI for iTunes?

This is the ugliest, and pain in the *** to use UI, I have ever seen.  Please please reconsider it.  The UI is absolutely horrific to use (I had iTunes set up the way I wanted it prior to update, and now you can't set it up the way I had it before....)

Many thanks for these helps to get a little of the usefullness back into this dreadful distortion of iTunes; but can ANYONE help with key strokes to LOSE the "grid" of "album covers" in "Music" and go back to a more useful alphabetical LIST (you can do this in the OTHER genres - why not HERE where it is most necessary?!) - actually THAT I just found: you have to list things by SONG (actually track, since most of my library is not music) and then organize THAT by Album to get back to a useful screen.
The New York Times reported that under the new system you will not be able to durn discs with "gapless playback". Is this true? If so (and even if not), can anyone PLEASE tell us how to get back to the last version of iTunes 10?! There must be someplace it can still be downloaded. I would NEVER have installed this version (and I have *always* installed the latest version of iTunes when sent out) had I known about the Album Cover Grid (which precludes, as far as we can tell, the LARGER illustrations many were able to use under the old system) or the loss of the "gapless playback."
We are still Apple people, but before making THIS radical a change, some warning should have been given that this was NOT a simple cosmetic change like when we lost the charming little rotating cursor during downloads...and when a Community member blithely says "if you don't like Apple go somewhere else" he's ignoring that there IS nowhere else. iTunes has always been the gold standard of audio managing programs.
There changes alone degraded iTunes to something less than Windows Media player just for the sake of novelty and meaningless (except in their irritation quotient) cosmetics. If they wanted to go in that direction why, in heaven's name, couldn't they have offered a new "iTunes-Pop" version for people who don't actually USE their audio or graphics, and leave a great product essentially ALONE for the rest of us as "iTunes BASIC" - or at the very least had the default version closer to the version most of us LOVED rather than forcing us to search for "work-arounds" to make the most useful sound management program on the web useful again! There were things which NEEDED upgrading, and the gnomes at Apple addressed none of them.
The Search Engine has needed improvement for years - the size bar at the bottom of a screen has always been listed in inaccurate tenths of an hour rather than the more USEFUL minutes and seconds shown for individual tracks - THOSE things that actually NEEDED fixing to be useful they left alone.

  • KT4 Ultra RAID Issue

On enabling and installing 2 Maxtor DiamondPlus9 SATA HDD's to a RAID array (striped, 64KB), I found that the performance was absolutely horrific.  Also, while HDD's are being accessed, the sound would distort badly.
Upon investigation, I found that the RAID array was being put on IRQ 19 (APIC), shared with my TV tuner card, and the sound card and sound capture is also on the APIC.  What the hell?  Shouldn't the RAID controllers get one of the basic IRQs?
I've tried setting my computer up as "Standard PC" but if I do that, I cannot use any of the USB ports because XP locks up during the driver install for them.
I think that this can only be solved by a BIOS fix.  Any other ideas?

  • Xperia Z2 Cannot record audio sound louder than a bird chirping without distortion!!

  • Bring back GoLive-DreamWeaver Sucks

I have been using (wrestling with) DreamWeaver for several years now and I have to say it is the most un-intuitive program I have ever seen from Adobe. It is an absolutely horrible piece of software. Seems like it was made by Microsoft. It is nearly unusable. BRING BACK GoLive, please. Or make DreamWeaver intuitive and useable. I'll have to look for another web layout program.
BTW, I have been using Macs since the beginning in 1984 and have been designing web sites for close to 20 years, so it's not like I'm inexperienced or an amateur. I am actually an IT guy as well as a graphic designer, and have decades of experience beta-testing and using software (they should have had ME beta-test DW).

Goody! Wow, a genuine classic GoLive versus Dreamweaver debate! Golly, and here I am thinking we'd left GoLive behind us 6 or more years ago! This takes me back 8 years ago!
Anyway, problem with time is that it often makes the past look more beautiful than it actually was. At one time I taught both products on a weekly basis, and it was obvious at the time that Macromedia Dreamweaver was going to win out. DW was improving fast, and GL was lagging behind. Adobe management was struggling to get the web thing right (still is, in my opinion ;-) and decided on this grand idea to gobble up Macromedia.
(Well, we all know how THAT turned out: Fireworks development stopped, Freehand dead, Flash redirected to mobile (game) dev, Director marginalized, Authorware zombified, and Dreamweaver still trying to find its direction up till the moment I write this).
Well, perhaps I am being overly dramatic. Fireworks' existence was on the head block while at MM. Still, Macromedia had market leading products (animation, online/distance/multimedia learning/visual game development/etc)  that, for the most part, have been... "neutered", for lack of better words.
Anyway, back on track: as I recall, GoLive generated some absolutely horrific code, even ten-12 years ago. It was a good application for those who did not want to code too much, and the interface was quite okay. But the code! Oh, that dreadful code. It was marginally better than (dare I say?) FrontPage. Dreamweaver, however, killed GoLive in the coding departement, and was a much more flexible and open editor than GL. Most coders I knew rejoiced when GoLive got the axe. I joined them in this, because during my GL classes I had to say "good things" about an application where I knew in my heart it just did not compare to DW, and was, for the most part, outdated.
Truly nostalgic memories. People love to polarize themselves into "us" against "them". (Replace either one with words like "Mac", "PC", Science", "Religion", "subscription model", "ownership", "spectrum", "C64", "you don't know code", "I know code", and so on. ;-P
As a solution to quick non-coding method to build websites: why not create a library of re-usable code snippets, and quickly mesh things together? Especially with Foundation or Bootstrap this can work fast and efficient. Or use something like this to quickly create a base to work with:

  • Crashes in iDVD '09

I've just been working on a project in iDVD ('09) after exporting a movie from iMovie ('09). Went to burn the project, inserted a blank dvd and iDVD crashed.
Restarted my MBP and re-opened the project in iDVD. Went to burn it again, and it crashed again.
Has anybody else experienced this?? Is there a solution?
    -j-

I'm creating 5 DVDs of old home movies as a (belated) Christmas present for my family. As a new user to Mac, I found iMovie to be pretty easy to use and the crashes were minimal (thank goodness that is autosaves).
My experience with iDVD ('09) has been absolutely horrific:
    1. After importing certain iMovie shared media, every action I take in iDVD causes it to spin the swirly wheel for ~6-8 seconds before I can take another action.
    2. Frequent crashes--enough that I started saving after nearly every change I made.
    3. Crashing when saving specific files.
    4. Crashing when closing a specific files.
    5. Crashing when closing iDVD with a specific file already open.
    6. Crashing when opening iDVD (likely due to opening the last project, which was corrupt). Fix: renaming my project folder before opening iDVD so it wouldn't be able to auto-load the last project.
    7. After burning a DVD and playing in a DVD player, pressing "Menu" causes my DVD player to freeze (cannot Stop or even Eject), requiring power cycle to eject the DVD.
    8. Losing text placement formatting on menu objects after reopening project.
Another observation that may be related:
I've noticed that a duplicate (set?) of menus is being created that are not shown in the DVD map view. For example, I typically add a "Title Menu" button to each chapter page to make it easier for the user to jump to the root menu (Project -> Add Title Menu Buttony). When testing the project in iDVD before burning, I've found that sometimes when double-clicking this button on certain pages, it redirects me to a Main Menu page that does not reflect changes I had previously made to the Main Menu. The correct Main Menu page still exists, and other links will take me there. The links on the incorrect Main Menu page also work--it simply appears like an earlier version of the page. The behavior is reflected on my DVD player as well. The first sign I've found is that when burning the DVD or file from iDVD, it indicates that it is rendering more menus than I have in the project (in this case 36 instead of 9). The bottom line is that iDVD is keeping a record of another version of the menu sets and including links from my project to this other version (though I cannot access it from the DVD map). To me, this seems like a symptom of some serious underlying programming problems (invalid pointer/reference handling).
Of the 5 DVD projects, 2 successfully work on my DVD player. The other 3? I think I'll try recreating one of them from scratch and see if that solves the problem. If not, I'll be looking for another tool.

  • Audigy 2 Platinum - Bad Sound Qual

    Hi!
I've got an Audigy 2 Platinum with Sennheiser HD 650 headphones running under Windows Vista x64 with the Creative Labs Audigy drivers 2.2.0002 and sound quality is really horrific.
Sound quality was quite good in Windows XP, but it's absolutely horrific when I run Windows Vista. Everything sounds as if I was listening to an 28 kbit mp3 or maybe like the first generation of onboard sound chips.
It's so bad I'm wanting to squint after slightly more than a minute of enduring an MP3 on Vista.
    Is this a known phenomenon?
It there anything I can do about it's
    Thx,

The 2.2.0002 drivers were really nasty for me, and many other Audigy 2 owners. The link in my signature contains many different software solutions to be used as an alternati've to official 2.2.0002.
    Hope this helps.

  • Absolute/Relative Path for elements in xml to rtf template.

    Hi all,
I have a small doubt, can anyone help me come out of this issue.
I developed a BI Publisher Report using RTF Template and I am addressing XML elements which are out of the group in the XML file inside the for loop in the RTF template. I am able to get the body of the table but with all blank values on the output.
I thought to give the full path ie., Absolute path instead only the element name, can anyone suggest me how to address an element outside the group in XML file from a for loop in the RTF template. Is it possible to address like that.?
    Thanks In advance.

    Hi Tim,
I am using BIP 10.1.3.3.2. I am able to access system variable CURRENT_SERVER URL.
    Steps:
    <?param@begin:CURRENT_SERVER_URL?>
    <xsl:value-of select="$ CURRENT_SERVER_URL"/>
CURRENT_SERVER_URL is getting printed in BI Publisher. Value displayed is http://xx4697.xxx.co.in:9704/xmlpserver.
Now we are importing xsl into RTF template. File aaa.xsl is stored at [BIP_Installation_Directory\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\default-web-app]
We have hardcoded the path for XSL in RTF. The path is <?import: http://xx4697.xxx.co.in:9704/aaa.xsl?>
As we want to set dynamic path we changed hardcoded xsl path to <?import: {$CURRENT_SERVER_URL}/../aaa.xsl?> but it is not working. Sometimes BIP is taking local path of MyDocuments folder and sometimes Desktop path. If I put that XSL file in MyDocuments folder or Desktop, it is working fine. But ideally it should refer [BIP_Installation_Directory\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\default-web-app] path...
    Thanks,
    Amit D

Hi richmc. I will only deal with the last part of your message.
You say that you want to use Outlook 2007 to collect your mail. That is not a problem, it is just an email client. BT do not supply this email client. Microsoft do.
You cannot expect BT to be able to assist customers with all the different email clients available to use. You can get the server details etc to set it up yourself.
Most ISP's are the same on support issues for things that they do not supply.
BT do have a paid support service if you did want to use it but for things like email setup it should not be needed.
You also say that you have your own domain names. These NEED to be hosted somewhere to be able to use them for email.
I don't believe that BT do hosting anymore(Could be wrong). So you would need to get in touch with a hosting company, someone like Nethosting, 1&1, GoDaddy etc to set up an email hosting account and then set up your email client to your hosting companies email servers.

  • Issue with container divs, and absolute/fixed positioning

Hello everyone, I have an issue getting my divs to function properly. I have a container div and I want the table div to float inside (and move with page resize). Right now it doesnt move with the page (see photo).
However, when I change the position to relative of that div, it moves under the container div and locks itself there.(Second photo)
Any help would be great! Thanks!

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.

Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.

  • Sky Sports 1 and 2 and BT in general - Absolutely ...

I would like to start by stating this will be a bit of an essay but I hope anyone who opens this thread up takes the time and consideration to read and takes it on-board, I am particurlarly aiming that at prospective BT customers who may be here to consider taking up a contract with BT, I strongly urge you to NOT DO THIS and to use my experience as the leading reason why.
We have been BT customers since we moved into our current property back in 2003, we have the current full package on offer, BT Infinity, with the Sky Sports and ESPN upgrades and the full On Demand and Broadband services. We have experienced numerous problems over the past three to four years with connectivity issues. The broadband drops in and out all the time, it's hard to put a level of consistency on this but on some days it can drop out 25-30 times, it can happen a lot at the weekend some weeks or weekdays on the others or both, the timing varies, it doesn't appear to be reflective of particurlar weather conditions, not that this should really matter anyway but we've been investigating all possible lines of enquiry as to why the problems keep happening, by my calculation we've had 18 engineers out to visit the property, I myself, and this does not include the other numerous phone calls made by fellow family members, have called and reported the problem to BT at least 50 times in this time period, I've taken days off work to wait for engineers, I've unplugged and reset my hub more times than I care to remember, we've had the hub itself replaced four times, the Vision box replaced twice, the lines re-routed through our house twice and more e-mails and letters than I reckon President Barack Obama sends in one year in office!
And so far, to date, and I am talking about in the last five days, the problem still exists! The only way to get the connection back is to turn the hub off and back on again, or use the reset button, which we all know disrupts the hub and often results in further faults down the line, I would love to not have to do this but given we're paying for 24/7 internet access I should not have to sit around waiting, in most cases, up to 3-4 hours for the signal to return to the hub by itself (I know, I've timed it, something else I've wated much of my own time doing). The lights don't flash or change colour on the hub either when this problem occurs (the hub should register lack of connection, with the lights going from blue to either flashing blue or, in most cases, red, just for the record they stay blue but we have used various devices in this house ranging from state-of-the-art, brand-new laptops to tablets to i-phones to desktops and the problem occurs the same for everyone so before I get one of the many excuses I've already had from BT that it's a potential "device problem" you can forget that one, been there, done that!).
I have urged, and urged, and urged the engineers, the people I speak to one the phone, the personal advisors our case has been passed on too, to look at potential problems outside our property i.e. the exchange. This has been rebuffed time and time again. "It's not the problem sir, the problem is here sir, the problem is not our fault sir" etc. etc. etc. Well, guess what....
We've just received a phone call informing us that, from June 10th in our area, due to issues with the exchange being able to hold the signal, Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 will no longer be avaliable on our BT package. As huge cricket fans, from a personal perspective, first off, this is infuriating. The person we spoke too also claimed Sky have "pulled the plug" on the package so, also, I'm a little confused as too which is the actual issue here resulting in the loss of Sky Sports? That you've known all along that there has been problem in my local area with the exchange and the signal it can hold, or that Sky have pulled the rights to their sports package? Or perhaps that you spent £757 million recently on a new TV rights package for Premiership football for two new BT Sports channels (those ones you see currently advertised, on, of all channels, Sky Sports 1 and 2!) and actually are just quite happy to cut customers out who have lined your pockets with substantial monthly fees for programming you knew full well didn't work when you first signed contracts with Sky to pick it up, and then distributed to customers? Are you seriously telling me after, by my calculation, three years, you didn't know Sky Sports 1 and 2 didn't work in my local area, yet carried on debiting bank accounts, advertising the channels, supplying them and then, now, with less than a month's notice, you've pulled the plug? That takes me right back to the title of my message - absolutely disgraceful.
I should make it clear at this point we have experienced problems with BT Vision too, albeit not lately, thank God, although that is not to say the problems wouldn't return. Signal dropping in and out, screen crackling and dropping out, black screens frequently on SS1, SS2 and ESPN etc. As for the On Demand service, that is obviously effected by the hub signal dropping in and out, the Vision box also does not appear to correlate with the hub when the signal returns and remains offline for a further amount of time, even when it is disconnected and then reconnected. It is constantly buffering too when the signal is low. Also, one other, far more minor point, you've been advertising 'red button coming soon' now for about three months!? I don't know what your definition of 'coming soon' is, but it's not the same as mine I can assure you, and I'm willing to bet quite a few others too!
Can you give me a good reason why I shouldn't report you too Trading Standards for misleading and false advertising? For 3 years you've been selling us a Sky Sports package you know full well won't work properly in our local area, I don't blame you for Sky's monpoly on sport, but perhaps you can explain to me why you've given two answers that completely contradict each other to the future dealings with Sky Sports in our local area? Why have you not addressed the issues with the exchange for our connectivity problems, despite the fact your now claiming it is what is probably attributed to causing our issues with the two sports channels? Also, I have worked in customer service jobs and I know people wind the heck out of you on some days, but a significant portion of your "customer advisors" are rude and ignorant. You ring the freephone number, your on hold for half-a-century, you get put through to the call-centre in Bombay and you are treated with contempt, I actually feel sorry for the people who work out there, they are clearly reading from a script and lack in clear English Language skills, which is not their fault, it's yours. As for anyone who takes dispute with that, go and ask them a question next time like "how is your day?" They won't answer, they can't, it's not on their call sheet. The few I have dealt with who have clear use of the language are, as I said, rude and ignorant, often accusing me, quite clearly, of lying and of having not reported the problem, for me then to find out a later date when I speak to the technical deparment and to BT Openreach (and yes, I know they are two seperate companies) that date is not transferred correctly between the two which is why whoever you speak too in the call-centre usually only has a last referral point for you from some years ago, it's also quite clearly a deflection manouvre to keep you away from actually getting your problem resolved, paying Openreach to dispatch engineers if required and so you don't clog up the minimal amount of contactable phone numbers for the average customer that are based in the UK.
Failure to receive a suitable and acceptable answer to my queries will result in me having no other option but to consider taking the matter further, I am also inclined now to make it my work between now and the date of June 10th to persuade everyone I know and they know to stay as far away from your company as possible and the "services" you claim to provide.
Also, as huge cricket, and for that matter, NFL fans, maybe you should consider that many sports-viewers in this country aren't just about football. Yes I know that's where the money lies but there is profit to be made from other sports ventures too, I don't think you realize just how many fans you are leaving out in the cold over this move, the whole reason we, and we are just one example, subscribed to the Sky Sports package was for the cricket, and for the NFL. Two sports that are entirely monopolized by Sky, yes I realize, as I state earlier, that's not your fault, but why don't you show a bit of interest in them then? Why don't you be slightly different, you have over £700 million to spend on Premiership football but little else? If you want to attract more customers and build larger profit margins, you have to be more diverse and explore new options and directions to do this.
I'm sure some will say, "why not get Sky?" Well unfortunately we can't due to our location but at least Sky were up-front and honest enough to tell us this when they first came to do a consultation, one, that by the way, we had as a secondary option to BT due to the attractions of the On Demand package, that then wasn't offered by Sky. How sad it's come too this and what an awful way to treat loyal customers who have upgraded to the packages you have offered in all innocence to obtain a better and more fruitful service? Customers who have never been late with payments either and used the likes of the Box office service for both movies and music (when the latter was chargable) as well, the money you have had off us, and that is what we've received in return and yet, perhaps, the poorest reflection on us, is we have stuck it for so long, but we are at the end of our tethers now and utterly furious at the decisions we've learned today that I am going to ensure we get to the bottom of this.
Thank you for taking the time to read, what I appreciate, is a lengthy message. I didn't want to have to write this but it was the only way of making our problems and feelings clear, and I wanted to include everything so as not too mislead anyone myself.

Sadly as this is customer to customer forum you are only talking to fellow customers.
Perhaps it would be better to contact the Mods who are the only BT employees here,
