QT X: Create and export still image?

Is there any way in QT X to grab a video frame and export it (full-size) as an image?
I think one could do this with QT 7 Pro (not sure). QT X allows one to trim, but the selection is limited to a duration and must be exported as a movie. I just want a still image from a video frame (and not including the Title Bar or the control bezel).
iMovie can do this, but even there it is awkward (many steps).
Skitch allows window grabs, but clicking on the QT window makes the bezel appear (and I have to run the movie at 100% in order to get an actual frame).
--Thanks.

Hi all,
On my main machine I still run Quicktime 7 Pro, even under 10.6, to do most of my movie and image conversions and dread when Apple remove what is one of the most critical basic tools.
Working on another machine I have come across this thread because it only has Quicktime 10 on it.
A solution to getting a single (controlled!) frame from a movie, depending on your screen resolution, is to use Quicktime 10's trim function to trim the movie to just the frame you want and then turn on looped playback in the View menu before pressing the play button. Then you can use Grab to take a picture of your screen without the controls in the way.
But come on Apple, exporting single frames (and the soundtracks) from a movie is a basic 20 year old function - please bring them both back.

  • Zigzag contours on exported still image

Hi! I get Zigzag contours on exported still images, no matter what setting I have. The zigzag pattern is not there in the viewer (nor if I make a screen capture and save the caption). Something must be wrong. GRateful for advice.

    Hi -
If you have Photoshop, open the exported image in Photoshop, and go to Filter > Video > De-interlace.
If you do not have Photoshop, you can apply a De-interlace Filter in FCE to the clip you want to export the still frames from, do your frame exports, and then remove the De-interlace filter.
    In FCE -
    Effects Tab > Video Filters > Video > De-Interlace
    Hope this helps.

  • Exporting still image - how do I stop motion compressing the original image

I wanted to see if I could take a still image in motion and isolate an object as Aperture 3 can't do this. I imported a photo of 5mb. I isolated a shot or my printer, cut out the background and filled it in with a white background. The printer fills most of the shot. When I export the image as eg a Tiff or jpeg the resulting exported image is only 600kb at most.
I've tried starting my motion project as multimedia large and HD1080i which gives a slightly higher file size.
How can I export such an image so that the exported still image is 4mb approx? As quality is needed for magazine pictures. I thought I had found a way to avoid buying photoshop!
Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you have large areas of white, they do compress well - either in TIFF as RLE or LZW, or in JPEG, so if the quality is good, I shouldn't worry. But use TIFF or PNG instead of JPEG. JPEG is a lossy compression format.

  • Why does PE7 create a duplicate still image file

I loaded PE7 and it located my Photoshop element calalog. That was fine however PE7 created duplicate or edited files. Not good when you photoshop elements catalog contains 20 thousands pictures. Is there a way to prevent PE7 from creating a duplicate still image. I had to delete the catalog and start over/

I've never seen or heard of this, md, and I don't know any reason this would happen.
Since this is a Photoshop Elements problem, I'd recommend you try posting your question to the Photoshop Elements forum and see if someone there can help you.

  • PE2 hangs with Windows 7 when creating and exporting files

My computer running WinXP just broke down on me for the 2nd time in 7 years, so I finally decided to upgrade. I put it off because I was afraid of windows 7 having compatibility issues with my old software, and now I'm having trouble with Premiere Elements 2. After it opens up I can cancel and exit but if I try to create a file it stops responding. The tutorial opens up as if there's no problem and it plays on the timeline like normal. When I tried to export that sample video the computer hung for a long time before letting me change the output settings. The file rendered at a normal speed, and the exported video looks fine. Since then I've transferred my old files and have no problem working with them or importing new media to an existing file. It's just creating and exporting that causes problems. I'm using Windows 7 home premium, 64 bit.

Have you tried right-clicking the application icon and setting it to run in XP compatibility mode?
If not you could install a Virtual Machine to run using your existing XP Licence. Or upgrade your W7 to Professional/Ultimate that includes Virtual XP Mode.

  • Create and export a still image form video?

How do I create and then export a still image from my video? Is it the same as freeze frame? It seems like that is different? I looked on youtube and a guy was telling how to do it, but he said to go up to share at the top and it is not there on my version. I think perhaps he was using an older version.. So to cut to the chase.. How do I create a still photo form my vdieo then export it to desktop or iphoto?

You seem to have added to "Save Current Frame" option to the destinations, but you are not using, if what you are outputting is a video file and not a still image file.
Now, click Next..., choose a file name and folder to save it on. That is just that.

  • FCE Exporting Still Image and Maintaining a 16:9 Aspect Ratio

I am putting the finishing touches to the first movie that I have created in FCE. I'm a refugee from imovie 08.
I would like to create an ending where I run my End Title and scrolling captions over a still from the movie that I've just created.
My movie is captured in 16:9 aspect ratio.
The problem is that when I export using Quicktime conversion, and the import the still back into FCE, the still loses it's 16:9 aspect ratio.
Can someone tell me how I can some how paste a still image from my movie with a long duration of say 90 seconds while my ending titles scroll through? AND keep my 16:9 aspect ratio.
Hope you folks understand my question OK? Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Steve

That seemed to work great.. thanks Tom.
My first movie in FCE is now finished and it looks good within FCE!!!
    Now I have exporting problems!
I have added chapter markers to my movie however:
If I export using the File > Export > Quicktime Movie option I keep my Chapter markers perfectly but no mention is made of 16:9 aspect ration.
However if I use the File > Export > Using Quicktime Conversion option I have lots of settings where I can play around with the aspect ratio but it does not give me any mention of chapter markers and I do in fact lose them after the conversion.
By the way I'm selecting the DVCPRO50 when I try this.
Have you any ideas how I can export, keep my 16:9 aspect ration AND keep my chapter markers?
    I'm importing into idvd-08
    Many Thanks!
    Steve.

  • Is there a way to export still images from Quicktime or do I need Quicktime Pro (and is Quicktime Pro even still a thing?)

I'm sure there used to be an option "export to still image" but not any more.
Do I need to switch to Quicktime Pro? I used to have it back in my P.C. days but I'm not sure if Quicktime Pro is even a thing any more.
I don't want to go down the "screen grab" option because my source footage is larger than the screen size and so I want to do my cropping after I've exported the stills, not before.

I played a little with live trace in CS5. Seems to do quite a good job if I had the right contrast between the blood (white stuff) and the myocardium (the dark circular wall surrounding the white round area). Picture one is the contrasted picture taken off a dicom medium (these media allow adjusting the contrast very well). Left ventricle is the smiley face on the right of image. The right ventricle is on the left, kind of D shaped. The second picture is the live trace image (with "make and expand" selection). I selected the image with the "direct selection tool (A)", then used the live trace with make and expand. The tracing can not be seen here, but it is very accurate.
The third image is the same MRI image as in picture one without contrast adjustment. Live trace did bad - fourth picture.

  • Looking for a way to Export Still Image to iPhoto

Hi I'm looking for a way to export a still image from iMovie 08 to iPhoto 08? The simple drag, help, web search etc doesn't seem to come up with an answer but it's been a long day.
    Thanks

Find the still within an event clip, right mouse, select add still frame to project. Repeat for all the stills you want.
In Finder under pictures, you should find files for all the stills you created. Import them into Iphoto and there you have it.
There is probably an easier way but this is not too bad.

  • Exporting still images

    Hi
I need to get some stills from a project that I am editing. I have tried using export, using quick time conversion..., format still image (using default settings), but the imge quality is poor.
Is there a better way to get the images, or do I need to change the settings?
    Thanks

but the imge quality is poor. < </div>
That's a relative quality for stills and, around here, usually indicates the poster does not understand video.
Assuming you understand the technical and qualitative differences between interlaced and progressive frames, your stills from video will never be any better than the pixel density of your video camera unless you post process them in another application.
My Sony DV shoots 720x480 pixels. My Nikon D2 shoots about 4000x3000 pixels. That's a big difference.
You can make the pixels from video bigger by scaling up but you can't easily create more of them without knowing how to do so in, say, Photoshop.

  • Exporting Still Image Sequence in Quicktime 10?

I've been spoiled by the feast of 'export as' options in every quicktime I've used before, especially exporting as a still image sequence.  Just got a new macbook pro (os 10.7) that came loaded with quicktime 10, and now there are virtually no options for exporting.  I also need to be able to import the still image sequence again back into quicktime.  Is it possible to run an older version of quicktime?  Or is there another way to do it in the new version?  OR is there some free program out there that will let me do the same thing?
    Thanks
    Nate

Is it possible to run an older version of quicktime?  Or is there another way to do it in the new version?  OR is there some free program out there that will let me do the same thing?
You can run the QT 7.6.6 Player Pro app under either Snow Leopard or Lion. Both QT 7 and QT X players can be installed simultaneously. The QT X.1 Player app does not have this feature. MPEG Streamclip will open a sequence of images but has a fixed frame rate unlike QT 7 Pro which offers user selectable frame rate options when opening image sequences.

  • Is it possible to use markers to export still images at once?

I have a movie and I need to export about 30 still images. Can I just place markers at the frames where I want a still image to be exported and then export all the markers together at once thus resulting in 30 jpeg still images? If yes, how do you do that?

    sure ....
if this is a sequence, then first, in the sequence, +select the clips you want to mark+ then scrub through the sequence placing markers at the appropriate points (because the clips are selected the markers will be placed within the clip instance rather than as sequence markers); second, drag the now marked clips back up from the sequence and into a bin in the browser window
if its not a sequence, then just open the clip into the viewer window and scrub through placing markers as needed
now, click on the disclosure triangle that appears to the left of these clips in the browser window's list view to display the contained markers as a list ... select all those markers and drag them into a new bin
you now have a bin full of subclips that each represent one of the markers you've placed
select this bin and choose File menu > Batch Export ... and in the subsequent window press the Settings button to set up the export format (as Still Image)
press the export button and you're done
fwiw it all sounds much more complicated than it is

  • Best practices for creating movie from still images?

I have created an architectural model in *someone else's* software, and animated a camera in *someone else's* software, and rendered that out to still images.  I rendered every 5th frame (for a total of 401 frames) in order to save time on rendering.  My goal is to create a short movie (2 minutes) of the camera flying around the building.
When I imported all of the images, I stretched the duration so that they equally fit the 2 minutes, and used the keyframe assistant to sequence the layers.  Now that I've done that, the movie is choppy (as I expected it to be, since I only rendered every 5th frame).  Does anyone have suggestions as to what effect or transition can be used to smooth the sequence out?  Or am I living in a dreamland and I need to go back and render every single frame?  Is this even the software I should be using?  I'm obviously a n00b, so any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Using After Effects CS4 (9.0.0.346) on Windows 7 64-bit

Or am I living in a dreamland and I need to go back and render every single frame?
You are. There is no effect that could automatically synthesize those missing frames even halfway realistically. Timewarp and Twixtor are only gonna make things look like a smear even with a lot of tweaking. By the time you have tweaked their settings and done all your masking and otehr corrections, your 3D render with all frames will be finished just as well and offer better quality.

  • Exporting still image - not all effects appearing

I have created an image in Photoshop but wanted to get the shadow/lighting/depth effects from After Effects. So I imported the layers, got it all set up with lighting/different depths/shadows/etc. So now I'm going to render out a single frame so I now have a TIFF/photoshop/JPEG. I go through the steps: COMPOSITION>SAVE AS.... I get the file and every time I open up the flat file in photoshop, the shadows that were great in After Effects have now become flat black shapes.
So I lose the effects I created in After Effects....... does anyone know how to keep these when I render it out for a still image?

Sorry! This is my first time using this form so had no idea.
Here is a screenshot of the issue:
LEFT - how it looks in AE
RIGHT - how it looks in PS
I have tried all different kinds of settings and rendering a still frame in Photoshop Sequence, TIFF Sequence, JPEG Sequence. The shadows just aren't appearing the same. It kept the correct light source on each of the items but the shadows just appear solid instead of blended.

  • Create and Export 'clickable' interactive PDF?

    Hello,
I'm working on a product brochure which reqires the ability to change out images inside the PDF with a click of a button.
It's identical to what Apple use on their website, however I want to create it in AI and export it as a PDF.
Is this possible? Would it only work in Acrobat or would it be compatiable with Preview on the Mac?
The best eample of what I mean is here :https://www.apple.com/ipod-touch/features/
    - Scroll down to the second image where you can change the color of the iPod/
    Thank you

I want to create it in AI and export it as a PDF.  Is this possible?
    Yes. You'll need Acrobat.
    1. Draw the artwork in Illustrator. Put the elements of the artwork which need to change on a dedicated Layer.
    2. Duplicate the Layer. Make the desired changes. Repeat for as many different versions as needed.
    3. Save A Copy...as PDF. Turn on the Create Acrobat Layers... option.
    4. Open in Acrobat Pro.
    5. Create buttons. Set the buttons' Actions to Set Layer Visibility.
Would it only work in Acrobat or would it be compatiable with Preview on the Mac?
Don't know about Preview on Mac OS. It will work in Reader and in the Reader browser plug-in.
