QT6 or QT7 for internet video?

Further to my earlier post I see compressor offers QT6 and QT7 (featuring H264) settings- what is the best option for compressing DV/HDV footage- if I chose the H264 codec would that offer superior visuals but at the same time would that not allow some users without QT7 to see the videos?
And another thing- how do I start a podcast... thought I'd mention it while I'm here...
Again, many thanks for any help.
Oliver

David
QT6 doesn't support h.264.
If that's an issue stay with mpeg1 or mpeg4 in 6.
Just to backtrack a little to make video for the internet what is the best way of doing it? I assumed using QT; and then within this using a particular codec; like MGEG 4. Would this be correct? There seems to be little info on this in the Compressor 2 help and the discussions here- I like the sound of using H264 but is this going to restrict our viewers to apple only?
And yes, I see there is a wealth of info on podcasting- I just thought I'd mention it while I was here.
Again, many thanks
Oliver

  • 780x420 to 400x300 for internet video?

FCE outputs at 720 x 480, which looks good on DVD, but distorted (stretched somewhat) online when I know the size down to 450 x 300. It looks better at 400x300, so I'm exporting them this way, which obviously changes the aspect ratio. Will this cause me to lose sharpness, or anything else?
How should I export videos so they don't look distorted online?
    Thanks,
    Doug Dye

customizing the size in this way won't affect the perceived 'sharpness' as you're making it smaller not stretching it but your methods of compression and settings you use will.
If you're outputting for Youtube, the 100mb limit will mean quality will take a massive hit - particularlyy if you approach the 10 min time limit - better to split into 2 x 5 min parts if this is the case. Search the forum for different methods of compression for Youtube - there's laods of posts.
If it's not for Youtube and you're not restricted by file size or time, you'll still run into compression woes as you'll not want to make people wait too long for the video to load.

  • Compression Recommendations for Internet Video

I'm working with standard definition DV in Final Cut, and am looking to export it in the highest possible quality for uploading to sites like YouTube and Vimeo. I've used Compressor before, but know very little about what it can do. The problem is that an export takes a long time, so experimenting is something I'd rather not do.
I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations about what settings to use for this kind of project. I'm assuming I should do it in H.264, but beyond that, like what kind of deinterlacing to use, I'm at a loss.

Have a look at Apple's tutorial; Creating Amazing Video Content with H.264,
Have a look here too: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7928935&#7928935

  • Quicktime ***** for internet videos!

When i'm lookin at videos online, Quicktime player goes to another page to play the video automatically and i don't want that to happen because it goes onto another page and is in a small screen that i can't make bigger. How can i just have windows media player to play the videos all together instead of quicktime player...?

You can adjust that in your web browser. If you're using Firefox, go into Tools > Options > Content > File Types and configure as you please. You can make Windows media player the default if you want. If my instructions are wrong, you can find the right information at: http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/faq.html
If you're using another web browser... good luck.

  • Does anyone know a video converter to convert Internet video recordings. Its in an IVR file, I can get it to work on real player on a widows but cant get it to work on my mac.

Does anyone know a video converter for a video file for internet video recordings. IVR file. I can get it to work on real player on my windows but can not open it on my mac.

Try downloading and using VLC. It is a very popular media player that plays just about every file format out there. That way you would not need to convert it.

  • Port fowarding for linksys WVC54GC  Wireless G internet video camera

    Hi
I have recentlty installed a linksys WVC54GC Wireless G internet video camera. My plan to is to view the video from the internet. As part of the setup, I am using SOLOLINK DDNS service. The set up requires me to do port forwarding for the camera which is part my home network ..
I do not know the values to input for
    public port
    private port
with in the port mapping environment in the Air port express base stations.
Linksys suggests I open port 1024.. Can any one help me in the setup ..

    Thanks,
I have done the changes, It does answer the specific issues i had asked. However I am still unable to view my camera from the the internet.. I did some reading up and I think the problem is due to the IP address..
My AEBS assigns IP which looks like 10.0.1.1 .... In order avoid changing IP, i had assigned the camera with the static IP 10.0.1.252. This is outside the AEBS dynamic range. Hence when i access from internet, i get a message that server is not responding. it looks like this is not a valid IP from an external internet world... I have looked at the AEBS settings and found the actual IP in ther internet tab.. Should I assign the camera with the actual IP ??.. However that is DHCP, so I am a little lost ....

  • Advice on sequence settings - frame size for VHS video in FCP

    Hello,
I was hoping that I could get some advice on editing and output for video captured from VHS Tapes to ensure the best quality possible.
My current workflow to digitize the VHS tapes is:
VHS signal from JVC S7600u with TBC into ADVC 300 (no de-interlace or other filters set) into a Mac Pro via firewire.  Capture preset in FCP is DV NTSC 48khz.
Once in FCP - the captured VHS video frame size is 720 X 480, Vid rate is 29.97, pixel aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601 and field dominance is lower (even)
    My questions are:
If my final destination is for You Tube sharing , are these the best sequence/ frame size settings or should I convert the sequence frame size to 640 X 480, or should I leave at 720 X 480 while working in FCP and then output to Compressor and select the H264 you tube sharing video setting and change the frame size to 640 X 480?
Should I de- interlace for internet/youtube destination?
    Should I de-interlace for DVD/TV destination?
If I want to burn the finished project to DVD and watch the video on a progressive montitor/ TV screen, what would be the best settings/frame size for that?
If any of you out there have experience with editing vcr/analog video in FCP and have a good workflow to ensure best quality, I would really appreciate  any advice/suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

Digitize to 720X480 frame size in FCP. In compressor, your YouTube preset will automatically deinterlace and a square pixel aspect ratio. No deinterlacing for DVD.

  • I'm new to Mac, after many PCs. I have a new "all in one" I use Hughesnet gen 4 for Internet. I can't use my Mac help menu...I get message that it is not available. I took it back to store and no problem with help menu. I was told by Apple Genius bar that

I can't get to computer help menus, get error not available at this time. I was told by apple that the problem is with Hughesnet Gen 4. I called them and they have no answers. No other problems accessing the net.I have lots of questions as I am new to Mac and this is very frustrating. Can anyone help?

Can't really help with your Internet issues, but I can put you on the path to leaning more about Macs.
If you're a former Windows user, there many resources on Apple's web site to get yourself familiar with how Macs and OS X work.
Here ard a few areas to spend time with
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbasics/
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/intel/
    http://support.apple.com/videos/
    http://www.apple.com/support/lion/
    http://www.apple.com/support/osx/
For the video tutorials, in the video search box, just type in OS X. You'll get a list of OS X video tutorials to watch  as you learn to use your iMac.
Start with the Anatomy of a Mac video first, Then the Finder Basics video second. After you have watched and put to use these two videos, you can watch any other OS X video you want in any order.
Here is a free eBook download of David Pogue's OS X Snow Leopard The Missing Manual here. While OS X 10.7 LIon and OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion work a bit differently than OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there are many things that still apply.

  • Preset for maintaining video in 640x1336 size for App Store Video

I am trying to create a video for the App Store and it requires that the video is 640x1336. I have raw footage in this format but there is no preset available to keep it as such once I import it into Premiere Elements 13 on Windows (as well as for export). Is there a way to work around this?

I'm not familiar with stagevideo. I'm going to look into it more.
The app was created with Flash CS6. The video (FLV) was embedded in the timeline. Flash actually warns me when doing this that the audio will likely go out of sync for longer videos. Unfortunately they are fairly long. It also tends to make the app act a little strange. For instance, the second video would just stop towards the later part of the video.
I realize embedding these videos isn't the best solution, so finding a different method would be great. But the problem is that the videos have to be included with the app, since the users won't have an internet connnection when using it.
I could get you a copy of the app, but it's pretty large with the embedded videos...
For the time being, I've simply removed the audio from the videos. This is a temporary solution as the app will be used at tradeshows where visitors likely won't be able to hear them anyway.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Expanding Quicksilver used for internet - is it worth it?

I still have my trusty old G4 Quicksilver. It's now used by my 6 year old for the internet.
The only thing I've done to it over the yeas is give it extra memory - it currently has 1.12GB. Also replaced the CD drive for a DVD drive.
It has a tiny internal drive - 38GB.
Is there anything I can do fairly cheaply to make it run better when on the internet? For example, one game he goes to on CBBC site doesn't seem to run smoothy, what will be the best upgrade to help that?
I'm a real novice when it comes to this kind of stuff, although I did manage to put the memory and DVD drive in all by myself so can't be too bad!
    Thanks, In advance.

    Hi-
    Three things-
    1- Get a 933mhz QS processor.
-The processor is not only faster, but has an L3 cache that the 733mhz processor doesn't. This will really help with internet video.
-Used processors often appear on eBay. Be careful of the Hong Kong and Singapore 933mhz processors. Sold real cheap, but are simply overclocked 733 processors with no L3 cache.
-If in doubt, ask the seller about the cache.
-A used 933mhz processor will typically go for between $60 and $90.
-If you get a 933mhz processor, you can run Leopard, too!
    - Replacement requires removing two heatsink clips, an removing 4 screws. Applying thermal compound is also necessary. Not extremely difficult.
    2- Replace the hard drive.
A new hard drive will bring back the snap in the system. More free space will also aid with virtual memory, again, helping system/internet performance.
    Hard drives run about $50-$60.
-Replacement requires removing the hard drive carrier (1 screw), installing the drive into the carrier (4 screws), and reinstalling the carrier. Easy.
3- Get a graphics card that supports Core Image.
-Not only will this make Tiger and Leopard prettier, but the cards that have Core Image capability have more powerful graphics processors, and more VRAM than those that don't. This will help total system performance, and help with video.
-eBay is a good source for Mac graphics cards. Flashed PC cards (converted to Mac ROM) are common. These cards will work just as a "real" Mac card- just fine, no problem.
-Core Image 4x AGP supporting cards go for between $70 and $250, with no need to go over $140.
-A Radeon 9800 Pro can be had for around $90. Plenty of power for you, with Core Image support.
-Installation requires removal of 1 screw, replcement of the card, and replacement of the 1 screw. Connection of a power cord may be necessary for certain cards. Moderately easy.
    Watch some videos here.
Since you did the optical drive yourself, you should be fine with all 3 proceedures.

  • How come my ipad 3 isn't allowing me to play youtube or any Internet videos

Why can't i play youtube or any Internet videos on my ipad3

You can also try the Free You Tube App for iPhone from the App Store.
    Give it a try.
They are supposedly working on a new version of the You Tube App for Ipad but it isn't out yet.

  • Corrections for Internet

I'm curious how other color correct for Internet. I'm using Color with an 23" Apple HD Cinema display. I get great results with my machine; however, playback on, say, a Dell 17" LCD monitor is washed out.
Should correct on the monitor of my target audience? If I darken the footage for the Dell will it appear too dark on Apple displays? What do others do?
Also... I shoot a lot of DV footage and notice increased noise with heavy color corrections. Any advice for removing said noise?

How will you determine the monitoring of your target audience? Who is that audience?
Using Google Analytics, we can see which platform our user normally views our website with. We can also see the most common screen resolution. I realize we can't determin the exact monitor they use but platform and screen size is a good start.
Also... I shoot a lot of DV footage and notice increased noise with heavy color corrections. Any advice for removing said noise?
Don't shoot DV25? Seriously, the only video more highly compressed than DV25 is hdv. Some have said they get good results with Nattress noise reduction and quite honestly, I've cleaned up some horrendously noisy DV in FCP with the Motion Blur filter but be reasonable, DV25 is the bottom of the digital barrel.
What codec/size would you recommend I shoot with. I have an HVX200 with FS-100 FireStore so I can probably shoot in another format.

  • Export mpeg-2 movie for Internet streaming

I have QuickTime Pro 7 with the mpeg-2 playback component. My source files are in a DVD movie. I am able to play the DVD fine in Windows Media player and Real Media Player, but Quicktime is able to play only the video and there is no audio output. My objective is to convert the DVD mpeg-2 muxed videos to quicktime .mov files that are prepared for progressive playback (web streaming: fast start).
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

get mpeg stream clip to do the video conversion to .mov

  • Internet videos are a black screen

I just added a second screen to my desktop. After getting that working suddenly all internet videos are solid black screens. I hear the audio and see all the controls, but if I fiddle with the video it freezes on me and a pop up saying shockwave flash is busy or non responsive, the audio also stops at that point. same result weather i use internet explorer or Firefox. Have uninstalled and downloaded/installed flash player a couple times. rebooted my computer nothing changes. how can i fix this?

It sounds like your graphics driver isn't happy.  You can test this by disabling hardware accleration.
This troubleshooting guide will walk you through it:
    Video playback issues
If everything is happy with Hardware Acceleration disabled, you'll want to locate the latest available drivers for your video card.  Hopefully that will resolve the issue and you'll be able to enable hardware acceleration for optimal system performance.
