QT7 5.1 Issues

Okay, I've got a PC running WinXP Pro, and have a Creative Audigy 2ZS Gamer Edition with a 5.1 surround setup. I running Quicktime 7.1. When I view content that is designed for multi-channel (like the Apple HD trailers), I get no sound from the center channel. I've read that apparently, this is a widespread problem. Has anyone figured out how to fix this problem?

Okay, the plot thickens. I went into the audio track properties in QT7.1 and switched the left and center tracks. Dialog now comes out of the front left speaker. This led me to believe that it was indeed a problem w/ QT7. So, I installed a plug-in to play the file in Winamp, which works, but has the same problem as QT7 does. This now leads me to believe that the problem lies in the files themselves. For reference, I'm testing with both of the Superman Returns 480p HD trailers on Apple's trailers page. I'm so confused...

  • Is UNIVERSAL the only way to upgrade to "Studio"

I am considering the upgrade promotion to Studio (in my case FCP 4.5 to Studio 5.1). What I am wondering is... is the upgrade only to a UNIVERSAL version? Or is there an option to upgrade to a non-universal version. I guess what I am REALLY asking is... (if there even IS a non-uni version) is there a downside to being UNIVERSAL? ... is it slower than a non-universal version of 5.1?
    thanks,
    Victor

Well, good. You see, I was primarily looking at the upgrade offer as a way to go from FCP 4.5 and DVDStudioPro2 to full Studio "Sweet" 5.1 for just $199. No plans to go Intel at the moment. Also I had been holding off upgrading from Panther/QT6 to Tiger/QT7 because I had heard that Tiger/QT7 might have issues with my FCP4.5. So now, with this promotional upgrade I can upgrade my ProApps, get the addition of Motion in the process and be safe with Tiger/QT7... all in one $199 swoop.
    Am I correct about this?
    Thanks,

  • Problems launching Full Screen QT7 in Windows... help?

I have been testing full screen video over the web using QT7. It works awsome in Mac, but I am dealing with odd bugs in widnows - so here goes.
    This page: http://www.24frets.com/testing/
Works fine, but the controller that appears on full screen doesn't show the chapter tracks - I am guessing that this feature down't work in the Windows version? (The chapters appear in the QT player window, just not full screen. It works fine in both on a Mac.)
Also, the second video clip after the "Rock n Roll TV" title, (roping dogies), often appears over a white background even though the background is set for #000000
    On this page: http://www.24frets.com/testing/index2.html
The movie that is called when you click on the poster frame in the web browser is a QTL file that calls the previous full screen movie. (I did that to get quicktime to close when the movie is finished and return to the web page.)
On my Mac, I occasionaly get a QT crash when I call it, then it works the next time - that may be an odd error - can't nail it down.
On windows, it launches with the volume at zero. I had a volume="100" parameter in the QTL file but nothing helps.
Are these known bugs in the Windows QT7?
I noticed that on the first testing page, the sound played fine even though the controller shows the volume down, on the second page there was no sound but it came back up when you raised it with the floating controller.
Thanks in advance - people are amazed at the full screen quality, and the data rates are around 720kbps - YEAH! Now if I can just debug the Windows version.
Also the movie that plays full screen is a SMIL file for quicktime.

Hmm, you may be onto something regarding the repair permissions thing. The authorization issue is happening when even putting together a movie that has more than one song from itms (and if you go to trim it, you end up in an endless loop between iMovie and iTunes— FUN!). There's a whole 'nother thread on it here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1079288&tstart=0
I did report it as a bug however. One other person in that thread was able to duplicate the issue at an Apple store on one of their machines. One would assume they go through the steps you do before installing software (assume tht is).

  • When trying to play inline mpeg's in QT7.2, safari stops pinging servers

i have 10.4.10 and updated to QT 7.2. now cant watch anything with the file extension .mpeg. if i try to view any .mpeg movie, safari tries to load the page, then safari wont load another page or ping another server untill i quit and relaunch it. other web apps work fine though after this happens. only if i want safari to work again i have to relaunch it. then it works fine. ive done every update in software update. repaired permissions. looked through the discussions and found other problems similar to mine like the no audio QT7.2 issue, and the "Plugin.webplugin" thing. tried it. that doesnt help. seems like lots of people are having issues but none are exactly like mine.
i found a work around last night but dont like it. i go into QT preferences/MIME, MPEG, then open the triangle and disable "MPEG Media" on the bottom. this fixes the safari not pinging thing but saves every mpeg to my hard drive and i cant watch anything in safari. kinda lame. not even apple.com/trailers!
actually, i had this problem a few months ago when QT 7.2 came out & i solved it by doing an archive and install to get me back to an older version of quicktime and OS 10.4.9. everything worked great and i went on with my life... i vowed to never update again, but because iLife '08 came out and requires QT 7.2, i had to do it because i wanted to mess with the new garageband, and im suprised Apple still hasent fixed it yet. i mean, in the billions of megabytes of java and security and qt compatibility stuff, they didnt fix this in all those updates?
i have a ibook with 10.3 that also works fine with my cable modem. my macmini works fine with my internet connection untill i update to quicktime 7.2
i have an intel mini 1.66, 10.4.10 and QT 7.2. have flip4mac and divx installed as well. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

You might need to update some settings:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • WARNING! :Quicktime 7 and Digidesign Core Audio issue

I recently attempted to upgrade from QT 6.5.2 to 7.0.2.
    ---I am running OS 10.3.9--- (althoughaffects 10.4.x)
    ---Descripiton of issue---
    -QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg (7.0.2) installed "successfully".
-After "Restart" a QT set-up/launch script tries to execute (this is normal).
-SBBOD ("spinning beach ball of death") on-screen for approx. 30 secs followed by applescript error message "Applescript (or appleevent) timed out"
-Quicktime will not open ! Although a black triangle appears under the QT icon in the Dock, the QT app does not appear on-screen and is not mentioned in the left of the top menu bar (as an opened app normally would).
-Running the "top" command in Terminal (or checking "Activity Monitor")reveals QT 7 has opened and is consuming 98% - 100% of CPU power. I then ran a "kill" command to quit it (could have used "Force Quit")
-Repairing Permissions, trashing the ".plist file" (preferences),Re-installing, trashing the app and plist and then re-installing - nothing worked .. the problem was looking serious !!!
    WORSE STILL...
-...after running 7.0.1 and 6.5.2 re-installer to go back to where I had started
both Quicktime (now 6.5.2) AND iTunes (v 4.x) were totalled ! QT would not open files (although the app itself DID open) and iTunes would not even launch ! OUCH - an OS re-install now looked likely !
    - Checked Apple Discussions (nothing) and phoned Applestore Tech (SoHo, NY). Half-way through the call I discovered the likely cause (with the help of Google) - an issue between QT 7 and Digidesign's Core Audio ! They were'nt aware of the issue although they are now and will probably post something about it.
-Seems to affect 10.4 users too. Digidesign has not yet released a patch and Apple clearly did not anticipate such difficulties when coding QT7. All versions of QT7 are affected, as are many different PT set-ups !
    ---Issue Fix---
-An OS re-install is the only fix I am aware of at the moment.

and try typing the following as a Google search:

As you can see from these threads the issue has been known about (in certain circles) for awhile. Sorry to bring such gloomy news to Apple Discussions.

    I had the same problem.
I had to find a folder called "HAL" somewhere in Library and trash it. (I found this on the Digidesign User's Group site)
Once you trash it you need to download the appropriate CoreAudio driver from below. Install it and you should be ok.

  • QT7 won't play MIDI type-1 files exported from ProTools7

That's as simple as I can put it. If you try to export a type-1 MIDI file from ProTools 7, and you try to open it with QT7, you wind up with a big empty file that is invariably 11 hours, 55 minutes and 40 seconds long. And your MIDI data (music) is nowhere to be found within that space...but then, I haven't sat there for the entirity of the 12 hours to make completely sure!
I talked it out with PT tech support and they got the same results. So here we are, scratching our heads.
The funny thing is, if you take that wonky 12-hour MIDI file you just exported and re-import it back into ProTools, everything is perfectly fine. The track is it's normal length and all the parts are there.
ALSO, you can export a type-O MIDI file from ProTools and QT will play THAT just fine, but there's something about type-q that throws it for a loop! And nobody botyher telling me to just stick with type-0! I need to be able to export BOTH for my line of work, so this is a major setback, ESPECIALLY since I can't revert to QT6 on account of I've gone Tiger.
I know nobody will have an answer, but I just wanted to put this out there in the hopes this issue will get remedied down the road.
    Powermac G4 dual 1G   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I'm having pretty much the exact same problem.
The .mov file was created on a MacBook Pro 15" (4mths old), then copied to my MacBook, which has Snow Leopard on it. The file works fine on the MBP and on the iMac at work but not on my MB, it comes up that same message stating that QT doesn't recognise the file format. On my partners MB, which is running Tiger and QT 7.6.4 the video doesn't work but I can hear the audio, so I'm confused to say the least and looking forward to a response from any one out there.....please.

  • QT7 and Media Cleaner 6.01

I have some problem on Media Cleaner 6.01 with QT7 does anyone has the same problem when encoding Mpeg-4 files ,

This is either a platform-specific or system configuration issue. I don't have a problem under Windows XP, which is in no way meant to say it isn't real for you. I would normally suggest trashing the prefs, but you indcated you've done that, so I'm afraid I have no more to suggest other than filing a REAL bug report. Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • QT7 Hiccups & No Workee

I'm experiencing a lot of difficulty with QT7 lately.
    (1) Can't get mpg4 files to open or play in Safari. A big Q comes up, that's followed by the never ending spinning rainbow disc.
    (2) Downloaded mpg4 files do NOT open/play in QT. I get a player window with a white screen. When I scroll the play head I can see pix, but when I press play I get the never ending spinning rainbow disc.
    (3) Interestingly, the same mpg 4 files DO open and play in Firefox. I'm also able to save to disk as self contained .mov files. BUT QT WON'T PLAY these converted files.
What gives? I've noticed a lot of similar issues on the discussion pages. Anyone know if Apple's got a fix in the mill? Thanks.

Not all .mp4 files are created equal.
Some use M$ codecs and can only be played using WMP.
Some use other proprietary codecs (PSP) and won't
    open in QT Player.
Since yours open via a plug-in (we hope QT) when
viewed in Firefox it doesn't make much sense that the
QT Player can't view the file.
Have you tried the files while logged in as a
    different user?
The files open in a QT player-type format in Firefox, so would guess it's using the QT plugin. Have not tried logging in as a different user. I have only one user account on all of my machines (this problem occurs on 1.2 GHz G4 iBook, and dual 1 GHZ G4 tower). Another puzzling part is that the downloaded mpeg4 files actually open in QT7, but won't play. Upon opening I get a white screen. When I scroll the playhead manually I can see pix in the player window. But when I click the play arrow I get the spinning rainbow disk instantly -- and it never goes away until I force quit.
There are occassions in Safari when I'm actually able to play small mpeg4 files (less than 100 MB). But they seem to have the hiccups -- lots of unintelligible audio and herky jerky motion.

  • Quicktime 10 will not open DVPAL AVI files even with QT7 Player!

I own a 2011 Mac Mini with OSX 10.6.7 on it. I have 2 Video files that are DVPAL encoded AVIs. THey are purely video, no embedded audio at all. Upon attempting to load them into Quicktime 10 - they would not import - I get the error message:
could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands.
I click the more info, and since then I have downloaded and installed Perian versian 1.22 - xvid, divx, all the components I can find. One at a time, all at once, various ways, repaired disk permissions on all occasions and still it refused to open.
I then installed QT7 from the OSX disk. But this also refused to open the files. Interestingly enough, VLC media will play them, but Mpeg Stream Clip does not!
I've tried everything that ive read on the web, does anyone else have any ideas on how to get round this? I need it to work somehow, as I work with Pro Tools 9 and that needs quicktime to open and import video files!

I agree with your advice to wait for another update.
I see you also have cinepak issues (another string)
    An important aside:
buried in the installer legalese (that we all tend to blow through) is a note that the MPEG2 plugin has been updated for 7.6. You get the updated plugin by going to the Apple Store, signing in, go to your account-- software purchases. There you will find the matching MPEG2 updater.

Apparently windows 2000 does not meet the minimum requirements for QT7.5, so what you need to do is find out what version of QT7 does if one ever did, if not your probably going to have to install QT6.5, which may be the latest version 2000 can run?

  • Configuration Data Is Corrupt... installing QT7.7 PLEASE HELP!

    Hi
I have really tried everything and am at my wit's end!
I am very much a newbie.
I have PC running windows 7. 2.4ghz processor; 16gig ram.
I have been able to install QT7.6, but whenever I try to upgrade to QT7.7 I get this error.
I have done everything, Windows Cleanup, ByeTunes, MicrosoftFixit, RevoUnin, etc... and nothing seems to fix the problem. I have tried do a system revert, and still can't get it to work.
Certain MOV files that I have been able to play previously are now not working for some reason.
Please let me know if there is more information I could and should be providing. Like I said I am very much a newbie, and I have really been stalled by this.
    Many many thanks!
    Moti

I have the same issue. My understanding is that it is a hardware defect and somehow iOS 7 is more sensitive to the hardware issue and/or causes it to fail by overheating the wifi chip.
The YouTube tutorials which involve using a hairdryer and/or freezer have worked for some. In my case the hairdryer trick worked for my 4S, but only for about 12 hours, and the freezer thing also worked, but only for a short time. I do repair electronics for fun, and most likely the issue is the chip solder connections are cracking and need to be reflowed using a SMD rework station (or heatgun). Freezing or hairdryer-ing works since it's causing expansion/contraction of faulty/cracked  solder work which potentially allows chip to work.
The issue is that the OS is not seeing the hardware, and thus it is grayed out. The official response is that for $200 Apple will repair/replace your phone (see repair section of this site). I will probably get banned from the forum for mentioning the pending class action over this issue as well as the petition about this on change.org as well. Personally I am going to make a Genius bar appointment and give them the chance to surprise me with good service and/or lose me forever as a customer. I am out of warranty with no AppleCare on mine and a month away from upgrade eligibility from AT&T.

  • Bad Issue playing Age of Empires III

    Hi everyone,
I have a Pre february 08 MBP which I recently upgraded to Leopard. The computer fits all the minimum and recommended system requirements for Age of Empires III. The game runs fine with the graphics maxed out, Until, I started to play the maps that have bodies of water on them as well as the campaign game mode. At this point, the game and my computer freezes as little as 5 mins into playing. I cannot force quit and have to manually shut the computer down by holding down the power button for 5 secs. I don't understand what could be causing this. I have tried playing with the graphics to a minimum and it still happens. Also I have tried to play the multiplayer mode with gameranger but the client won't even load, it encounters a problem and has to be closed.
I thought that these were windows problems, It is extremely annoying that this is happening so soon into switching from windows to Apple.
    Any help would be amazing!
    Thanks in advance,
    Charlie

Hello me again - i found this site: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/archives/mar07/030807.html
    with these steps...
    <snip>
Hi Mike, I heard back from MacSoft about the Age of Empires III problem. They confirmed that it's a problem with the QT7.1.5 update on 10.3.9. They said that they're working on a fix, and gave me a workaround to get it going. I noticed later that they also posted it on their support site: http://www.destineerstudios.com/support/aoe3.html
    " Problems with Quicktime 7.1.5 and OS X 10.3.9
A recent update to Quicktime from Apple has prevented Age of Empires III from starting up on systems running OS X 10.3.9. We are currently working on an update that addresses this issue, but the instructions below will allow you to play Age of Empires III on your Macintosh in the meantime.
    1. Locate the Age of Empires III program on your computer. 2 . Control-click or Right Click on the Age of Empires III icon and select "Show Package Contents," then open up the "Contents" folder, then "Resources," "GameData," then finally the "avi" folder.
    3. Go to the File Menu and select "New Folder."
    4. Drag all of the files in the "avi" folder into the folder you created.
    5. Close all of the windows and Start Age of Empires III.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to see the end of Act Movies in game until we have an update for Age of Empires III. However, it is possible to watch the movies if you navigate to the folder that you have created in the steps above. It will be necessary to drag the movies back into the "avi" folder after we have an update for the game that addresses this issue.
    Thanks
    -Brian

    hope this helps!

  • Any issues with QT 7.2

Has anyone run into any issues after installing QT 7.2?
Lots of non-FC Studio related issues being posted on MacFixit.
    BG

Not sure when it happened - after I upgraded to QT7.2 or after I did the ProApps upgrade - but Compressor 3 stopped working. After I submit, the history window gets busy, calculates and reports remaining time, the time gets shorter, the progress bar above it longer and after just two minutes of this bliss (I can stare at it for days) the remaining time begins to grow and the progress bar freezes. I use Compressor 3 for web streaming content (H264) and Flash video. Sometimes H264 files get finally done but they always have the .mov-1 extension after hours of compression of really short clips. I have only once succeeded in producing a .flv clip with Compressor 3 since I upgraded to QT7.2 and installed the latest ProApps upgrade.

  • FCP7 Reconnect Media Issues after upgrading OS

I've updated a 2009 MAC Pro 2.26 GHz Quad Core Intel Zeon from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 and eventually want to get to 10.8. (Note - I did not do a clean install.) However, since that update I've had various problems files with MXF and XDCAM files opening or relinking.  I've also had the frustating "General Error" or "Out of Memory" error when trying to open and XDCAM timelines that was created before the update.
I updated the CalibratedQ Software that is required to play MXF via Finder and through FCP.  I've updated XDCAM Transfer program from Sony along with their new Content Browser from because XDCAM Transfer is not supported going forward to 10.8.   I also tried deleting QT7 and redownloaded it, however that didn't fix the problem.  I deleted QT7 again and took it off another computer that is working fine using 10.8.  Those two things fixed most of the problem with opening files in Finder and in Final Cut - then I was able to play XDCAM and MXF files.  (Note when I did the software udpate after moving QT7, an update for QT brought back my problem of not being able to play XDCAM or MXF files.  So once again I reinstalled the older version of QT7 and will not allow it to update.)
However, as I've proceeded with editing I'm having problems with MXF files again. Some files will play in Finder and other MXF files in the same folder/same directory structure won't play.  When opening a FCP timeline, MXF files that were connected previous to the update won't reconnect.  When attempting to reconnect, it will show me the file in the top window, I can locate the exact file on the drive it thinks it should be, but when I click on the file and hit "choose" it disappears from the upper window and never moves to the lower window for me to hit the connect.  Also, some files, when hitting reconnect, open up the reconnect window, show the folder the file is suppose to be located, but doesn't show the name of the files beneath the folder name.
I've read a lot of different responses on this topic and haven't found anything that quite matches my issue or fixes the issue.  I've deleted FCP preferences, FCP plist, and thumbnail caches, and tried moving the problem files to a local drive on the computer rather than on our server.  But since I have problems playing some of the MXF files via Finder, it's likely causing the same problem with FCP.
    Any help out there?

As an update, I've spoken with CalibratedQ software and found an item in QuickTime 7 that needed to added from Calibrated.  QT will now play MXF files and FCP sees it.
But this update to different OS still has issues with linking to some files and needing to reconnect, plus I just tried to export a 60 sec video from a timeline in an h.264 format and I'm getting an out of memory error regardless of the fact that there is 174gb available on the drive.

  • Exporting issues with transission

    Hello
    I have actaully two issues.
issue one: my wife has a HD flip camera, now she asked me to edit some of the footage she shoot. When brining the clips onto the time line I get a red line and the audio is not playing back, which makes it hard to edit. I tried all kind of settings but the red line stays. my work around is to open the clip in QT7 and export the file as a AIFF file and put it under the clip.
Issue two. now when i finished editing the clips and putting in my dissolve transition, and export the clip using quick time either on current settings or if I make customs settings. the video and audio seems to be exerting alright but on the transition I get a strobe effect or just a green screen that is until the transition stops. I tried all kind of changes but on the transitiions I have that issue

You have a couple things going on.
    1. you're causing yourself trouble by trying to edit directly the footage from the flip. It's not in what we call an "editing format." Download a copy of MPEGstreamclip. Use it to convert your footage to one of many editing formats. I might suggest ProRes LT if available or Apple Intermediate Codec.
    2. The red audio line is because your audio's frequency is incorrect. Your timeline should be at 48k. So whenyou convert your footage make sure to make it 48k
I think your transition problems will go away. I hope so.
    Good luck
