QT7 and divx6.5

i've quicktime pro and also the mpeg2 playback component....am i able to convert a video_ts folder ripped before from a dvd in divx format using the 6.5 codec(supported by QT7)....
i've tryed but qt doesn't open the vob files...why?
is it possible to concatenate all the vob file into a single movie with quicktime?

In the U.S. it is illegal to bypass CSS encryption found on most DVD's. Even showing how to bypass it has landed many people in hot water.
You may want to search through the iPod Discussions pages where there is some mentions of third party software that converts DVD's to other formats.

And just what sort of changes in "appearance" did you expect?
If you can access the editing, conversion, and/or properties options once a file is loaded then the QT 7 app has been upgreaded for "Pro" use.

QT7 and QT10 player

I bought a new iMac (os10.6.4) and it comes with QT10 and on my old machine I had QT7 upgraded to pro and with the MPEG2 download added, and I'm puzzled with v10. It looks like version 7 is the working version, version 10 appears to be literally a player and nothing more. And Apple still sells the version 7 pro, etc. Do I delete version 10 to replace with 7?

I have a windows key that I no longer need and would like to use it on my new Mac, can this be done? Can I trade in my windows key for a mac key? I don't want to have to pay for it twice when I'm only using it once for one machine. Thanks guys.

QT7 and Filemaker Pro (7 or 8 advanced) Error on Windows

Hello out there
I have got a Filemaker database with Quicktime references in container-fields. When I open the file, i receive the following error:
"FileMaker Pro Advanced.exe hat ein Problem festgestellt und muss beendet werden.
AppName: filemaker pro advanced.exe AppVer: 8.0.1.295 ModName: quicktime.qts
ModVer: 6.5.2.10 Offset: 00005557"
I have tried everything i could figure out.
If anybody have the same problem with Filemaker, please let me know. And if you are working fine with QT-Audio in Filemaker, let me know as well.
On MAC, this problem doesn´t appear.

I have tried to download Adobe Reader 8.1.1 for Vista four times and get the Error 1935. Does anyone have a fix for this. I am now sitting
with no reader since the install conveniently uninstalled 8.0. The error message is "An Error occurred during installation of Assembly. I upgraded to QT 7 but now I can't play back MPEG2. Is there an upgrade for the MPEG2 playback component or do I have to purchase a new copy?

If you moved up from version 6 then yes and you can get a free upgrade.

This is either a platform-specific or system configuration issue. I don't have a problem under Windows XP, which is in no way meant to say it isn't real for you. QT7 and Playback of Legacy Home Videos

I recently moved to an iMac and I have a lot of home videos shot with a Panasonic DVD Camcorder, imported with its software and now residing on an external hard drive. All the content appears to have been converted from Windows Media Player to QuickTime but when I try to launch a file it will not open and play. Any ideas on solving this issue?

I upgraded to QT Pro, does that cover me?No, Pro just unlocks the editing, conversion, recording, and saving features of the QT Player. (This can be very handy for "lite" editing by the average user and, in the hands of a really advanced user, can do some amazing things.) However, it does not add any new codecs which would allow the playback of additional compression formats. For that you need component installs like DivX, Flip4Mac, the Perian pack, etc. Most proprietary codecs require you pay a liscensing fee for import/export but usually have free player components that allow simple playback in the QT Player. Also the VLC Player is handy for some playback of codecs that have never been ported for use on the Mac or have yet to be released in universal binary.

Memory Leak in QTPlugin ? (QT7, and QT 6.5+)

Trying to track this down, there is a problem with a memory leak when doing a endless loop quicktime sequence of images. To get the loop, I've created a SMIL file with the images, then have a HTML page that uses the EMBED tag to reference these SMIL files via QTNEXTxx, with a final GOTO0 to get back to the start.
It works, but if you watch the process with Activity Monitor (or top) you can see that memory consumption grows over time and will eventually crash whatever browser you are using. This happens if I open the HTML file with Safari, iCab, Opera, Firefox, RealPlayer, etc...
Very simple example with even one image will leak memory, albeit at a slower pace:

To workaround this issue, we had to revert to a 10.3.x system with QT6.4.x on it, reverting a 10.3.9 to QT6.5.x didn't work. A Tiger installation with 7.0.3 doesn't work either, it leaks like a sieve.
How can I debug this?

Write a main() that does the polling in a tight loop 1000 times. Then System.gc(); Thread.sleep(1000); System.exit(). Run the thing with -Xrunhprof. Observe the "live bytes" and "live objs" columns in the generated java.hprof.txt file. Anything that strikes as suspicious? If every polling round leaks one object, there's likely to be 1000 (or N*1000) of something live. Make sure the leak is in the polling routine by running it 1,000,000 rounds and getting an OutOfMemory.

Final Cut Pro, QT7 and the rest of Studio crashing constantly

OK, so I was experiencing slow everything and heard my 3 year old hard drive (from an Early Mac Pro 2008) was laboring.
I decided to replace the hard drive with a new one and start fresh.
I installed Snow Leopard on the new drive and then Final Cut Studio, ran all the updates.
I then installed Lion, ran all the updates.
I then installed all the Final Cut Pro plugins (Red Giant Magic Bullets Looks and FX Factory), ran all the updates.
Now, Final Cut loads up and allows me edit for 5 minutes and then crashes everytime.
Quicktime 7 also does this.
I'm an iPhone 4s, iPad2 user who likes Lion, but am seriously considering biting the bullet and going
back in time to Snow Leopard. FCP is my business and lifeline and I can't explain how much time, effort
and frustration this has caused over the last 3-4 months.
Does anyone have any advice as to why this happening? Everything was installed fresh + new on a
new hard drive.
I've run Verify Permissions and Repair Permissions.
I've also run Disk Warrior and had it go thru the Files to make sure nothing was corrupt.
I'm at the end of my rope. I would break down and buy a new Mac Pro, but I'm truly not confident
in Apple's support for Final Cut Studio anymore (especially under Lion).
Anyone have any ideas?

Going from SL to Lion is not advised. Start clean.
Install Lion. Run updates. Install FCS. Run updates.

Question about FCP Studio QT7 and Blackmagic Decklink

I am capturing video with a blackmagic card. The compressor setting and the timeline are set to 10 bit uncompressed. If I view the captured material in quicktime, it states that the codec is "," and give me a resolution of 720x486 (704x486). Does anyone know why it is not seeing the codec? Also what does the 704 resolution mean? Thanks!

Weird. Is this the first time you've used this setup or has it worked before.
Make sure you've got all the BM codecs loaded correctly.
Usually the issue is your "easy setup" doesn't match your timeline settings.
Also, unless you're creating alot of graphics and animation you're not going to get anything else out of your video by editing in 10bit.
8bit video upresed to 10bit still equals 8bit quality pretty much.

Locate QT PRO key file. Want to Delete QT7 Key and instate 6 key

Ok, I can't find how to do this.
I want to delete the registration file that I suspect QT7 installed and overwrote that of QT6 PRO. How do I find it
I was able to install QT7 and QT6 (for which I have a PRO key) in 2 differnt locations and they both run alonside. Howeverm when i want to register the QT6 PRO key it states that I have an invalid key. So I believe that QT7 overwrote the QT6 key file and now QT6 can't find it. I want to re insert the QT6 key file. So, how do I find it.
I remember having to do this before, but can't remember the file name.

To run 2 QTs on one OS, I installed QT6, moved the installation folder to another location (in my case another drive). I set the folder as READ ONLY (or else QT7 removes it), then installed QT7. I can now run both, but can't register QT6 PRO.

Edit 1080p with QT7 without losing any quality?

I'm editing my first full HD movie. The footage comes off a Sony DSC-HX9V point & shoot as 1080p at 60fps, AVCHD format (.MTS), which I re-wrap as .MOV using Media Converter w/uncompressed audio (free download) -- I like to use QT Pro 7 for doing fast pre-edits before importing (or not) into a fancier editor.
Just want to make trebly sure I'm not losing any quality:
I set Preferences>Recording to "Device native" which claims it's "best for post processing, Raw and large files." Admittedly this is the first time I've changed that setting as it was always on "Best, H.264" in the past, because I never paid attention to it (was prob fine for simple 640x480 30fps videos) - is this a correct move?
Also, before editing I change the view to half size (960x540) so I can see the QT controls and have been saving the edits that way. NOW, I just noticed that when you do a "get info" on an edit it shows "Dimensions" as half size (960 x 540).
But, when you look at the Properties of the video in QT7 - and expand it to full sized view - it does indeed show 1920x1080. File size appears to be same -
the .MTS file is say, 51.2 Mb, and the converted .MOV file is also 51.1 Mb. Clicking on Movie Inspector on both shows data as 48.76 mb, whatever that discrepancy means.

Moving along a bit (really poor internet connection here in Peru, forgive me)...
- Well, I think I've answered my own concern ... Editing a file with QT Pro seems to reduce it to 24 fps or there abouts. i.e. Media Converter made the .MTS file into a .MOV with no apparent reduction in filesize, and Movie Properties shows the .MOV file to be 60 fps - as long as I don't touch it with QTPro. Correct?
I wasn't planning to use iMovie to make the big edit, but progress to something a little more advanced, i.e. FCPX.
1. Will FCPX retain the the 60fps advantage? If not, what about Adobe Premiere? I'll even consider buying a PC (shock horror) dedicated to editing if it comes down to it.
2. Again, since I trashed the directory structure that comes of the camera for the first 9 days of shooting, can I get by without it without loss of quality?

FCP 4.5 HD & QT7 disables External Monitor?

I just installed QT7 and now I can't get my external monitor to work thru my ADVC-100 convertor. Anyone else have that problem and know a solution? Jon

System Prefs Accounts and directory problems

I've had ongoing problems since mid 2005 when I upgraded to OSX 10.3.9/iTunes 4.9/QT7 and my Digidesign 001 Core Audio Drivers. I think I'm now on top of those problems after making carbon copy clones, backups, OSX maintenance utilities etc and finally zeroing various HDs and reinstalling everything.
Just when things were starting to go OK towards end of 2005 starting experiencing the spinning beachball of death when I open System Preferences>Accounts (I always check my Accounts as an indication of whether everhthing's OK or not). I'm getting a wide range of flaky & wierd behaviour even when I use other boot vols with OSX 10.3.9 but same user account volume. Typically Disk Utility, Text View and other apps don't start up etc. I sytematically use a range of disk/system maintenance utils eg Onyx, Cocktail etc to run cron scripts, flush caches, repair permissions, fix prebindings etc. I also run Disk Warrior regularly.
A couple of days ago when things had gotten really bad I booted from my DiskWarrior 3.0.3 CD and every volume I had brought up directory errors (typically):
• 1194 link files had a creation date that was repaired.
• 2 folders had a directory entry with an incorrect custom icon flag that was repaired.
• 14 files had a directory entry with an incorrect text encoding value that was repaired.
• The Root creation date was repaired.
I did multiple passes with DW until every volume came up clean and did multiple restarts from each of my boot volumes. All of my problems were fixed!
Today, I boot my Mac and I'm getting the same flaky behaviour. I've run DW this morning and each of my volumes has the same set of problems as above and I'm now rebuilding each of the directories again.
Anybody help?

I don't see "text to the right of the name and realname entries". For example, for user "amavisd" the name (under "property") is "amavisd" and the realname (under "value") is "Amavisd User".

Leary of conflicts from QT7

Now in my second phase of questions about what i need...
I am using FCP 4 but think I want to upgrade QT7 pro because i want to use h.264 because i'm after good quality Web video.
Do i therefore have to upgrade to 10.4 to use QT7 and thus have h.264 in the QT drop down menu or does that only work in hd?
Can someone please share if this will work with FCP 4? Are there conflicts with QT7 and FCP4?

QT 7 will work with 10.3.9 but there have been a number of problems reported. It is generally recommended that you run 10.4 with QT7. They are made to work together.
Still, to make the update as painless as possible:
1. Make sure you have a clean OS. Run Repair Permissions/ Repair Disk from disk utilities on all your computers disks.
2. Run diskwarrior from alsoft to repair any directory and disk anomalies.
3. download the Quicktime update
4. run the installer
5. Repair permissions
6. Reboot
The QT6 Pro key does not work with QT7. You will need to pay for the v7 key if you want Pro functionality.
Do the Free update to FCP4.5 HD before you do the QT7 update.
