QT7 won't play MIDI type-1 files exported from ProTools7
That's as simple as I can put it. If you try to export a type-1 MIDI file from ProTools 7, and you try to open it with QT7, you wind up with a big empty file that is invariably 11 hours, 55 minutes and 40 seconds long. And your MIDI data (music) is nowhere to be found within that space...but then, I haven't sat there for the entirity of the 12 hours to make completely sure!
I talked it out with PT tech support and they got the same results. So here we are, scratching our heads.
The funny thing is, if you take that wonky 12-hour MIDI file you just exported and re-import it back into ProTools, everything is perfectly fine. The track is it's normal length and all the parts are there.
ALSO, you can export a type-O MIDI file from ProTools and QT will play THAT just fine, but there's something about type-q that throws it for a loop! And nobody botyher telling me to just stick with type-0! I need to be able to export BOTH for my line of work, so this is a major setback, ESPECIALLY since I can't revert to QT6 on account of I've gone Tiger.
I know nobody will have an answer, but I just wanted to put this out there in the hopes this issue will get remedied down the road.
Powermac G4 dual 1G Mac OS X (10.4.3)
I'm having pretty much the exact same problem.
The .mov file was created on a MacBook Pro 15" (4mths old), then copied to my MacBook, which has Snow Leopard on it. The file works fine on the MBP and on the iMac at work but not on my MB, it comes up that same message stating that QT doesn't recognise the file format. On my partners MB, which is running Tiger and QT 7.6.4 the video doesn't work but I can hear the audio, so I'm confused to say the least and looking forward to a response from any one out there.....please.

MacBook Pro won't play .mov or .wmv files.
Since "upgrading" to Lion my MacBook Pro won't play .mov or .wmv files, all I get is a black screen and the audio. It's so frustrating!!
I've read many other posts all along the same lines and wherever possible I've tried to follow the advice which has been given but nothing works. I've updated all the drivers I can and I've even reinstalled Lion, nothing makes a difference.
I'm not really looking for any more advice, all I want is someone from Apple to read these posts, realise there is problem and get working on a fix or update.
I had no problems when running Snow Leopard and it would seem, looking at everyone else's problems, that the common issue is Lion. Seriously, this is one area where Lion is a backwards step. It should just work (like most things from Apple), but it doesn't.
Personally I believe there is a problem with Lion but from what I've found out from speaking to friends with other Apple kit, this might be a random issue only affecting some people as some have said they've had no problems while others have had the same issues as me. One guy reinstalled Lion and it resolved the issue for him, I've not been as lucky.
As I say, I'm not really looking for more advice, simply some sort of update from Apple to fix it. PLEASE!!!I'm not really looking for any more advice, all I want is someone from Apple to read these posts, realise there is problem and get working on a fix or update... This is a peer-to-peer user forum. Perhaps you would see more action if you and others would file a formal "Bug" report with Apple QuickTime technical people rather than repeatedly reporting a possible problematic problem which may or may not affect others on a random basis. QUICKTIME PRODUCT FEEDBACK
Since you aren't seeking further advice here is what I have observed. Not being a regular WMV file user, I had to create my own sample file to test—a WMV 9 file containing WMV3 compressed video and WMA2 compressed audio. Since I normally use QT 7 as my primary media player, I also stored the WMV data in its partially decompressed form in an MOV file container to avoid pre-playback delays in "classic" player routines and also provide a secondary playback test of MOV wrapped content. These files play as follows using the Flip4Mac component/player support and uncoded URL uploads:
QT 7.6.6 "Open File" - both files play correctly.
QT 7.6.6 "Open URL" - both files play correctly.
QT X.1 "Open File" - WMV file plays correctly. MOV file plays video without audio.
QT X.1 "Open Location" - WMV file appears to open but plays with "black" screen and no audio. MOV file plays video without audio.
VLC "Open File" - WMV plays correctly. MOV file doesn't open,
VLC "Open URL" - WMV file plays correctly. MOV file appears to open but nothing plays.
MPEG Streamclip "Open File" - both files play correctly.
MPEG Streamclip "Open URL" - both files play correctly.
GarageBand - WMV file will not import but MOV file does.
iTunes - WMV file will not import. MOV file container is accepted but as soon as iTuness sees the compression formats, it aborts import.
Safari - WMV file URL auto-downloads and playes in the QT X.1 Player. The MOV file URL opens and plays in Safari.
As you can see from these results the files do play but are subject to many different constrints based on old/new video technology support, independent QT subsets and/or container trapping constraints. In short, individual user results will depend on presence/absence of component support, actual compression formats, file container, application being used, and how the application is being used. Unfortunately, most users here can't or won't provide the prerequisite information or a sample file for independent examination. This makes it next to impossible to give advice in these matters or categorize the specific nature of the problem.

I rented 3 episodes of a TV Show on my iPhone but it says can't play this type of file?
I paid for the rental, it was downloaded on an iPhone, yet when I go to play it it tells me "Cant play this type of file".
So confused - why did it allow the download, but can't play it? I have an iPhone 3G - anyone have a similar problem (or know a solution?)First off, which nano? The 6th doesn't do video, and while I've never tried a TV show or movie, I have loaded some short video podcasts, which will play the audio, but not the video.
I'd look through the different tabs in iTunes to see if there is a checkbox that turns on the ability to use video on your 5th or earlier Nano, if that's what you have. Lastly, did you buy the show from the iTunes store, or somewhere else? -
Why won't .MOV files export from Lightroom?
Why won't .MOV files export from Lightroom?
The will.
Or at least they can, and do, sometimes, if you have good MOV karma..
Why not supply a little more info, like:
* Which OS
* Which version of Lightroom
* History of MOV files.
* Export format.
* Do other video types export OK
* How many different MOV files have you tried - all with the same history?
and of course:
* What, exactly, happens, when you try?

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?
I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

PAL files exported from FCP don't display
This is a strange one... SD PAL uncompressed files exported from FCP 6.03 won't display, you just see black. HD files are fine, as are SD PAL files exported a while ago - prior to a recent pro apps or QT update possibly? As a workaround, if they exported via compressor instead of by 'export quicktime' in FCP, they work fine. Shake is 4.0 since 4.1 doesn't want to display via a decklink.
Any ideas? This seems to be a new one.Does the computer your using to view this video have Final Cut Pro installed?

How do i send an html file exported from muse as email blast with images and live links?
My question it:
How do i send an html file exported from muse as email blast with images and live links?
I have designed a "website" in adobe muse and exported it as an html file. I am not sure how to send my .html file in an email!
Best,
NicoleUnfortunately, the answer is, you don't. The requirements for HTML displayed in an e-mail reader are very different than those for HTML displayed in a browser. The output of Muse won't work as an HTML e-mail. You could upload the Muse site as a website and provide a link to it in an e-mail, but the HTML generated by Muse is not suitable for direct display by an e-mail program.

Lightroom and DxO: fix lens flaws in a TIF file exported from LR
Hi,
I'm in love with LR, I don't mind if people tell me that other Raw converter do a better job in demosaicing. Anyway some time ago a friend told me about DxO Optics Pro, I tried and loved the lens corrections. I thought I could prform those correction at the end of my workflow on a Tiff file exported from LR to DxO. No way! It seems that DxO doesn't recognize the lens used to shoot the image. It seems that LR and Camera Raw delete all the infos related to optics used. Any help would be appreciated.
Bye!I used the following command to swap exif data:
exiftool -all= -tagsfromfile DSC_0002.NEF -exif:all DSC_0009-2.tif
The TIF file contais less exif tags than the NEF (or DNG) file, and there is no tag about the lens used.
Here's what I get copying exif data from one file to another:

Aspect ratio issues in iDVD with mov files exported from FCE
Please help. I believe this is an iDVD bug. I have found some relevant discussion of it on online forums - but have not found a solution that works for me. I am looking for a workaround.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1356500&tstart=31
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
My 4:3 movies, exported from FCE in QT-with-conversion formats (any 4:3 format) - appear in iDVD with gray side-pillars (as expected for 4:3) AND with a black line (letter-boxing) at top and bottom - as would be for 16:9. It appears the aspect ratio is also distorted i.e. 16:9. (The iDVD project is set to 4:3.)
1- A 4:3 mov file exported from FCE using Quicktime Movie format (no conversion) does not have the problem, but I cannot de-interlace the video using this export mode.
2) A 4:3 mov file exported using QT-with-conversion mode (any 4:3 format) DOES have the problem. I need to use this mode in order to get de-interlace.
(Exception: 640x480 VGA mode does not have the black lines, and it displays correctly in dvd player on my computer screen - but on the TV screen, it crops content from the top and bottom of the movie, so this is not an option.)
3) In Finder, if you click on mov file exported QT-only (no conversion), it opens in the FCE viewer. If you click on mov file exported in any other 4:3 mode, it opens in Quicktime viewer (i.e. there is absolutely something different in the header/ID of these files.)
4) All mov files, regardless of export mode, show correctly in Quicktime viewer - no black line, no distortion. The problem does not occur outside of iDvd.
5) I tried passing the QT-with-conversion mov files through an Inverse-Anamorphicizer (per suggestion on forum - this apparently fixed the problem for some people) but the resulting output mov (i.e. the inverted product) still had the same problem.
I am, so far, left with this trade-off: Give up the de-interlacing, or live with the letter-boxing/ distortion. Neither is acceptable.
I am looking for a workaround:
1) A way to export de-interlaced 4:3 mov from FCE that shows in correct ratio in iDVD
2) A way to "convert" / re-head mov file after exported so that it displays corrrectly (inverse-anamorphicize) so that iDVD reads it correctly
3) Can the mov be de-interlaced after the fact (so I could use QT export without conversion)?
4) Something besides iDVD to put this together - that doesn't have this problem? (I like and want to use the iDVD menu/theme.)
5) Other?????
I also notice that all the QT-with-conversion mov files are 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the QT-only mov file, which is valuable and preferable to me. (I don't see any quality difference in the display...)In the Preview window > top frame > middle button
do you have correct for pixel aspect ratio checked or not?

Can't visualise text on PDF files exported from PS
PDF files exported from PS (levels included as we need them to be selectable) have corrupted text. When opening the saved pdf file, a part of text doesn't appear. It is usually starting from the second chapter of text. Any idea of how to solve this problem?
Hi Marco,
For now we have only fixed this in CC, but we are aware this problem also affects CS6 users and is a significant problem for many people. At this time, I don't know of any workaround in CS6 for this bug other than to break text up into smaller blocks or use another more text-oriented application like InDesign. While I can't comment on future releases, your feedback on this issue is important to us, and I can say, "there's always hope"...
If you'd like to discuss this further, or send us a file that exhibits the problem, please contact me directly. My email address is my last name @ adobe.com.

How to distinguish between the dmp file export from the data pump utility and the export utility in Oracle 10g and 11g .
Thanks,
SSLike Werner suggested, it's never hurt to try anyway.
use imp with SHOW=Y, if it works then Original otherwise Data pump.
Once you determined one file, there's good chance that the rest are same. I don't think previous DBA will go through the trouble by mixing data pump and traditional exp/imp. -
Illustrator error opening eps file exported from sketchup pro 8
When I attempt to use Illustrator CS6 to open an .eps file exported from Google Sketchup Pro 8 I get the following error message "the file is an unknown format and cannot be opened". If I try to place/link the file I get this message "can't place the illustration. Could not set a position inside the file." Any thoughts on why I'm having this issue? Is there an eps version compatibility issue I should be aware of?

1 - Select the thumbnail of one of the problem photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option. This will take you to the folder containing the original file with that file selected by the Finder.
You can also use Find Any File to search for that file (get the file name from the Info pane in iPhoto). You will find the thumbnail version and maybe an edited version also. Made sure what is found is the large, original version and note were it's located. Search all of your drives with FAF just in case.
If you don't fine the full sized version then the only recourse is to use a file recovery application like SubrosaSoft FileSalvage on your drives to see if any of your full sized photos can be recovered. If you find enough files to make the purchase of the software worthwhile buy it and recover the files. However, since it may have been quite a while since you discovered the missing originals it seems unlikely you'll be able to recover any due to being overwritten.
2 - book projects are just entries in the library databases and can't be exported to another library. -
Color shift when converting .mov file exported from Macromedia Flash

Please help!I am in the midst of trying to figure out the opposite : Flash to After Effects. I am betting that this is an issue of 'color profile' attached to the images and the gamma settings in that profile. RGBA is only part of the story - color profile is all the rest of it. Eye Dropper doesn't tell you the color profile attached to the image.
