QTParted - a Partition Magic clone

Whenever I partition my HDD I am using Windows Partition Magic... one of the reasons I am still holding Win'98 on my machine. On Win-Lin-Soft website I found QTParted; a Partition Magic clone. AL has the concole version Parted. I am interested in GUI.
http://qtparted.sourceforge.net/
http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-lin-soft-en/
I tried building an AL package but libreiserfs is missing. ALs' reiserfsprogs-3.6.11-1 doesn't have this library file (/usr/lib/libreiserfs).
checking for reiserfs_fs_create in -lreiserfs... no
configure: error: *** reiserfsprogs library (libreiserfs) not found
Tried to build from src (progsreiserfs) but failed.
http://ftp.tuniv.szczecin.pl/pub/linux/ … breiserfs/
Any solution?

I installed the rpm version of qtparted with rpm package in incoming (rpm-4.0.4-1.ok.tar.gz)
http://qtparted.sourceforge.net/forums/ … c.php?t=36
It seems to work except cannot resize or move ext3 and reiserfs partitions. Fat and ext2 is ok though I have not yet "dared" to try . I am planning to buy a new HDD, then I do the test. Mean while I will try to get the "resize" and "move" option visible. If this work, then files generated by rpm can be compiled to an AL package.

  • Satellite Pro L300 - using partition magic

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 laptop and I would like to make an additional partition beside the already existing C: and the hidden partition. I have created the recovery discs and I want to use partition magic for the partitioning process (no new installation of windows xp). Can anyone tell me if using partition magic will have unwanted effect on possible recovery from the created disks?
    Thank you in advance

Usually you can do this with Windows option in disc management but can you please tell me something at first?
Do you use Vista or WXP? I ask this because if you use preinstalled Vista the HDD must already have two partitions. Please check it out in Windows explorer.
Is hidden partition described as EISA (WinRE) partition?

  • Partition Magic Error 110 on new Thinkpad W500

I have a new W500 that (automatically) configured to WinXP right out of the box (which is the OS I want).
After getting the OS in order (updates, customizations, firewall, anti-virus, firmware updates, etc.) I installed my PowerQuest Partition Magic v8 (and applied the patch v8.01).
The HD was configured as almost entirely used by C:, with some 5g allocated to the 'hidden' partition.
I'm trying to resize C: down to about 25g, in order to be able to created new partitions, and I am unable to do so.
I'm first receiving Error 110 "Partition table number of sectors is inconsistent" and PM is asking me if I want to "fix" this situation.  I have NOT YET allowed PM to proceed.  After that, it attempts to still "run", but then I get some other errors and the program closes.
I ran the reporting/inquiry program and it gave me a few other errors on the partitions (i.e. Errors 105, 106 108, and 109).
From what I've seen on the internet, there seems to be some problem(s) with PMv8 and Vista, but I am running XP.
    Has anyone seen this before?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
our mods here do favour it, too.
And member TomTom in my sugested thread has done it simply and fast.
There is NO problem partitioning the drive, though you have to be careful not to modify/ erase the last special partition.
R&R files are kept on the C: drive so there is a special partition at the end of the drive,
that is used for booting before the OS.
If you damagethis one, theres is no more Blue Button functionality.
Please, first burn your recovery DVD´s and safe your C:/SWTool folder, if something goes
wrong you can easily restore your system with your software.
    Regards
    Andreas

  • Re: Missing data partition after installation of partition magic

Hi there Im after a little help.
Yesterday I installed a program called partition magic. The install went without any errors or problems but then when I start the program for the 1st time I got a blue screen and my laptop shut down. I restarted the laptop and uninstalled partition magic but now I noticed that the data partition is missing. Ive tried doing a restore back to before I installed partition magic but that does not help.
Any help would be great. Thanks
    Lee

    Hi Lee,
May I ask you why you have installed partition magic? Installation of such programs is always a little bit risky and should only be done if you really want to change some partitions or something else.
Have you already checked disk management of Windows? Navigate to control panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
Can you see the second partition and is it maybe hidden or something else?

  • Tecra S3 M780 and Partition Magic not possible?

    Hi All..
Hope someone can help my out here.
Already tried the search but didn't find an answer.
Ok, i have an hard disc (100 GIG) and I would like to make partitions on it to store my data on a different partition as my OS.
Problem is Partition Magic won't run.
I get an error that there is an partition on my harddisc that has no driveletter.
I checked it and it's correct.
    On the hard disc are:
C: allmost the entire disc, Primary
    No driveletter: 16 MB Primary
    No driveletter: 8 MB
I think the 16 MB Primary is the problem.
Can someone tell me the reason or purpose for that partition?
Has it something to do with recovery?
Is it possible to delete every partition on the hard disc, make new partitions (C,D and E) and then use the recovery cd to install Windows on C?
Or will the recovery cd automaticly change the hard disc's partition's to its default?
I already tried to make an Image from C: with Gost or Powerquest but It won't work either.
My intention was to make partitions and then put the image back.
    Regards Rene

    Hi
The first question is hard to answer. I don't know what that partition is for. I don't think it is for anything special.
If you want to divide the HDD into seperate partitions and can accept to recover the unit, then the Recovery CD can help you.
Just boot up on it like normal, but choose Advanced recovery instead if Standard.
That will give you the opportunity to manually set the size to assign the C-partition (where the OS will be installed).
Once done with the installation, just go into diskmanager, add a new partition and format it.
    Tada! You're home.

  • X300: Partition Magic 8 needs Windos XP safe mode

Hi I have the following setup: ThinkPad X300 6477-1RG, Win XP, and I want to use Partition Magic 8 to add extra partitions on my disc. Partition magic comes back with the notorious error#27, during start-up, which just means that there are other processes running locking disc access. See for example here: http://www.mcmcse.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=+15682
After reading all the relevant information available on the web to this problem it boils down to the question how to start-up in Win XP 'safe mode', since, without a floppy drive one cannot start-up PM8 during booting!
So here is my question: How can I start-up XP in "safe-mode" or in an equivalent mode without all the ThinkVantage recovery etc. processes coming in my way??? Disabeling all processes and automatic start-ups from msconfig is not sufficient!!!
Many thanks for any hints on this issue!

I've had Thinkpads since they were introduced and have been using Partition Magic to create logical drives for ten years without any problems. However with my new X300,  I ran into the same Error 27 - Cannot Lock Drive.
First a little review about Partition Magic.  There's two steps.  First, run the Wizard to make the instructions to create the partitions, and then in Step 2 the system reboots and writes the changes in DOS before WIndows loads..  That's where the Error 27 pops up.
There's definitely a problem with F8 bringing up Safe Mode, which seriously needs to be addressed.  I got Safe Mode one time in about 25-30 attempts, and don't know what the secret was.  If you press too early or too long, you get "Stuck Key - hit F1."  If you hit too late, it doesn't go into Safe Mode and also aborts the PM writing in DOS.  (Press any key to abort.)
    What finally worked:
In Run / msconfig / check BOOT.INI / SAFEBOOT - but don’t hit Restart until the PM Wizard is ready
    Run the PM Wizard
At this point there are two “Restart” options - one from Wizard, the other from the System Configuration Utility - I don’t know which I hit.  However, when it rebooted, it successfully wrote the instructions without any errors.
Also, as to the PM Wizard, I choose NOT to “move” the Lenovo Service partition, although that was the “recommended” move.  This is because the "recommended" move required the Service partition to be moved, which I figured might not be desirable since the Lenovo configuration was designed to protect the Service partition.  I have no idea whether this was necessary.
What also did not work:  Booting with PM's Recovery Diskettes did not work because the PM Wizard did not offer the option of creating partitions, only moving and resizing them.
Thanks to Bananaman for the reminder about BOOT.INI / SAFEBOOT.
Now we have to flatten the problem with F8 -- BOOT.INI / SAFEBOOT is useless if you can't boot your machine.

  • What partition manager for iMac equates to partition magic or Easeus?

Hopefully some one in the community can point in the direction of a free edition partition manager I can use to decrease the iMAC(GUID) partition to allow me to extend (possibly in Windows) the bootcamp partition(100Gb) on which I'm running Windows 7 with 16GB free space ONLY!
PS disc utility can't do this job on the iMAC MD094B/A model desktop.

The only free partition manager is Disk Utility. The only third-party partition manager is iPartition 3.4.1. If you wish to manage a Boot Camp partition then use Paragon Camptune X 10.

  • VERY strange lag on a Dell Optiplex 760

I thought it would be a good idea to keep a 16GB flash drive on my keychain that booted Arch so I could work on HW for college in a consistent OS!  Everything is working great so far, but I ran into a very strange problem with a Dell Optiplex 760.  During the normal Arch init process, everything loads great, except for when it gets to the udev stage where everything hangs.  But here's the strange part of this scenario: the problems go away when I start typing random keys or move the mouse!  If I don't do this, the system hangs completely from what I can tell.  This happens at the console and with X.
The service tag for this machine is FDCQQJ1, and the dell.com driver area brings up this list of hardware and (windows) drivers for it.

  • Rescue & Recovery or Windows 7 Backup

Does anyone have an opinion which is best to use?
Would it matter if you used both?

    Hi,
    you are welcome.
Please surely let me know if you will have any additional questions to this thread, so that I can follow up on this one.
Or one you will see this sitaution as fixed, then just mark it as fixed.
In any case post here some of your new remarks, so that also the rest of the community can benefit from it

So, with your help I am back up and running with my RAID 10 disk but with some questions- if you can clarify.
    What I have now is:
4x  250MB-320MB Drives in a RAID 10 array (with one additional drive configured as a hot spare). Total disk space 468 GB and higher performance with security. Cool!
Using R&R boot from DVD drive OS came up and running no problem (the driver I preinstalled before the upgrade worked fine after upgrade to RAID)
    Questions:
    1. In the Recovery Workspace you are asked what you want to recover- I chose the Base back-up as it seemed the right choice- but the supplemntal backups were presented as options too...The supplementals were only from the last week or so, so relatively small. Should I now reboot into the workspace and recover them also - one by one? Is that the process- or would choosing the most recent back-up have picked up ALL of the prior ones too?
    2. OS drive was previously 246GB and after recovery to my surprise- still 246GB- The Lenovo recovery partition had expanded to fill the rest of the drive...I guess R&R really is an image. I tried to load my trusty Partition Magic 8.0 only to find there isn't a Win 7 version- nor will there be....Another fine product destroyed by Symantec. I had used Partition Magic since OS/2 days....
    3. I found another Partition Magic clone (EASEUS Partition Master) which looks suspiciously like Partition Magic and runs in Win 7 and to my great surprise was able to rearrange and expand the primary partition to 468G or so and plant the Lenovo recovery partition at the end.
So- I am up and running except for the last two supplemental back-ups- (which doesn't really worry me). I would like to know what I could have done better to get it ALL for next time.
Thanks for your help. It is really closed except for my above questions.

  • Way to Clone Boot Camp Partition?

Is there anything that would back up my BootCamp partition, and clone it over to a new BC partition once I've re-installed OSX?
My OSX partition is corrupt and I need to re-install OSX. My BootCamp drive works perfectly fine, and I can still run OSX (wifi is broken only). I don't want to re-install Windows, all of my programs, and re-do all of the tweaking I've done.

Really? Boot Camp recognizes it fine? That's a load off my mind. Thanks so much
Hypothetically though, if I needed to back up and transfer it to another computer, would making an image of it in Disk Utility work?

  • How do I Partition Yosemite Boot Drive Using BCA?

I replaced the HD in my Mid 2010 27" IMac to achieve greater storage.  The replacement went fine with no issues, and I then installed Yosemite (10.10.1) from scratch using the latest version of Diskmaker and installing the install version of Yosemite on to a USB thumb drive.  The replacement drive is a 4.0Gb drive with no prior installations on it.
Everything has gone fine, and OSX Yosemite seemingly works great.
But I need to install Boot Camp and a fresh version of Windows 7, 64bit SP1, and it just won't work at the partition step before I ever get to the Windows installation.
When I use BCA I downloaded the drivers without a hitch, but when I go to the next step I encounter the error message, "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.  The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS extended volume or already partitioned by Boot camp Assistant for installing Windows".
I have found a number of references to this error message, but none seem to describe my situation with a new, clean, install of Mavericks.
I have a bootable backup (via Carbon Copy Cloner), and have loaded current Yosemite compatible versions of Partition Magic and TechTools onto the external bootable drive, but cannot see any problems with the drive.
Before I progress any further with installing apps on to the new drive and I still have a clean Yosemite installation on the new HD, I want to resolve the issue since Windows 7 via Boot Camp (and not via virtual software!) is essential.  The prior smaller HD had a Windows 7 Boot Camp installation that worked fine.
    Options that might work:
    1.  Boot to the external drive, and create an MS-DOS partition manually using Disk Utilities, and then try to use that partition for Windows using BCA.
    2.  Use low level partitioning software or terminal mode to erase the small hidden OSX restore partition, which may be why BCA thinks I have more than one partition on the boot drive.  This notion shows up in some of the threads on this web site, but why would Apple allow this problem since all installations of Yosemite presumably have the hidden restore partition?
    3.  My new 4Gb hard drive is a hybrid SSD/HD (ST4000DX001), but this type of drive seems to be the norm now, and I do not see where this would be a problem.
    4.  Erase the new drive, and install a clean version of the original OSX, (Lion, I believe for the mid 2010 27" IMac) using the internet and the Cmd-R command, subsequently updating the original OSX version to Yosemite after creating a Boot Camp partition (although I don't know if BCA would work from the original version of OSX for this machine.  I really don't want to do this because of the time required for the internet download, but it would take me to the original OSX image which came with the machine.
I have no issues with my Yosemite installation, and backup is not a problem since my goal was to create a clean installation of OSX uncluttered with legacy apps.
I would be grateful for any experienced suggestions, or hypotheses as to the nature of the problem.
    Thanks!!!!

You can use an external disk for store files and for Time Machine, but you have to create a second volume.
To create volumes on the external disk, use Disk Utility. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html I recommend you to put as much space as you can for the Time Machine volume, because backups consume a lot and Time Machine starts deleting backups when the external disk is full

  • How would I fix a bad block on a partition?

I've been trying to resize a Western Digital 250GB drive that has Windows XP on the primary /dev/hda partition. PartitonMagic reports "Error 1529 while executing batch" & "Error 1529: Information mismatch in directory entry" I've read it up and the solution is supposed to be running "chkdsk /f"but I've run "chkdisk /r & /f" multiple times and I still get this error.
I also tried to partition form a gparted cd, it tells me that there is at least 1 bad block and it cannot continue. It suggested chkdsk and running ntfsresize with --bad-sectors. I did this with "ntfsresize -b -s182880MB /dev/sda1" it seemed to have worked but when I logged in to Windows I noticed that while my C: was resized to 182GB, no unallocated space was created. (Not sure if I missed a step in this process) So partition magic and other apps show a 250GB+ drive with no unallocated free space. While my C:\ shows up as 182GB.
I also tried Ultimate Boot Disk, with qtparted & simplyMephis liveCD with qtparted. UBD just said there were errors, simplyMephis said there was at least 1 bad block on the drive. I tried running badblocks commands from Mephis but it looked like it would take days to complete at the speed it was doing it.
Any more ideas? Has anyone else come across these problems?

You may try to launch a "cfdisk" from a live CD to see if the partitions are set up correctly and maybe write a proper partition table. Be warned, this is a formatting tool, so you can loose all your data if manipulated incorrectly.
Moreover, partitionning a drive while the system uses it is not a good idea. Always prefer doing this from a live system (that uses only RAM).

  • I would like to partition my MBP

I have recently switched from PC where i would run Partition Magic; this could create, delete or resize partitions after the operating system is installed with no fuss.
Anything out there i can use without making images, clones or reinstalling OSX? Seems a bit daft that i can't transform some free space into a partition.
    10 points for the winner!

There are a few commercial programs that will do the job.
    iPartition
    Disk Studio
    VolumeWorks
They can be found at www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com. However, only iPartition is supposed to be compatible with Intel Macs.
If you want to create a partition to install Boot Camp, then use the Boot Camp software to create the partition (www.apple.com/bootcamp/.)
