QTPRO- Cropping?

have got a final cut dv movie - slef contained. have opened this with qtpro and exported it with the apple tv preset.
the movie is PAL 720x576 and when the movie is opened the left hand side has been cropped by around 2-3mm (as you look at it)
Ive exported the same movie using the .mov container - saving as h264 - but the image hasnt been cropped?
Its annoying becasuse ive put the channel name in the top left - and this would mean going back to fcp and re-allinging the text then exporting again....
oh and when i open movie (.m4v) properties in qtpro it states video track is 720x576

I just chose a height and width of 3x37. I think that's custom
Uncheck the "constrain to" box and choose whatever you want by typing it in the boxes.

  • No basic border filter on cropped shots?

I'm making a movie basically on V1 and V2. V1 is standard material from my own camera. V2 is imported from a 16:9 source. All shots on v2 are scaled to 80% (so V1 is partly visible) and cropped (all 4 sides), as to get rid of the black beams on top and on the bottom. Now i want to apply a basic border filter to the tracks on V2, to detach the material from the underlying tracks, but fce (2.03) refuses to accept the filter. Other filters are accepted without any problem. I presume that the problem is caused by the cropping procedure. If it's not possible to apply a border filter to cropped material, is there a way to do it in a different way?
    imacG5m20, 1.7 g   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   fce 2.0.3, canon 330i, panasonic lumix fz30

Thanks for your help. I tried, but did not succeed in getting the precise image i'm looking for, and apart from that it would take a lot of time to do this as the V1 track is divided in more than 50 short shots. Anyway i now understand why i could not apply the border. What i need is a way to really cut the shots, as you can do in Photoshop (select your part of the picture and cut it out). This apparently cannot be done in FCE. I tried to do it in imovie, but no way. I have only little experience with QTpro, but as far as i can see, there is no possibility to really cut out part of the video, to get rid of the 16:9 black beams on top and on the bottom. May be some other application?

  • When i send a PDF via e-print, it gets cropped, is there a way to prevent this from happening?

PDF's are printing fine when i print direct to the printer but when they are sent by e-mail they get cropped, is there a way to get the document to fit to page when sent as an email attachment?
The Printer in question is a HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 color M551n, the printer is brand new installed last week so i don't know if this is the norm or not.
Edit: Please can someone please explain how to correct this.

If you're using a desktop or notebook PC to send the email you could try installing the HP ePrint Mobile Driver software on your machine, the link to the download is here. This will allow you to print the PDF to any ePrint capable printer without having to email it to the printers email address as an attachment.
Once installed and with your PDF open on your machine, select Print from the File menu, then select "ePrint" from the list of available printers (don't select the actual printer itself) and click Print in the bottom right corner of the box. A dialogue box will open showing the avaialble ePrint printers you can print to. Click on the Connected button on the left of the screen to add your printer to the list if its not listed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you automatically downsample images in Keynote without cropping?

    Hello All,
I am trying to get Keynote to perform what I think is a pretty basic task, but can't figure out how to make it happen.  I am an art teacher and frequently show my students slide shows made from a large database of .jpgs I have amassed.  Most of the .jpgs were scanned at high resolutions - roughly 2500px on the long edge.  They are made at this size to anticipate improvements in projector resolution in the future.  The slideshows I make are at XGA (1024x768) because this is the native resolution of the school's projectors.
I want to be able to drop large numbers of slides into a slideshow and have Keynote to automatically downsample them to fit on an XGA slide without cropping the image. I currently have "Reduce placed images to fit on slides" checked in the General Preferences.  This does downsample the images, but does so in a way that fills the slide with the image and crops on one dimension depending on the aspect ratio of the image.  So for example, with the two Kertesz images below, the top and bottom is cropped off the first one and the sides off of the second one.  Keynote scales it down so that the image fills the entire slide rather than scaling down so the entire image can fit on the slide.
    FIG 1a
    FIG 2a
I can then go in and resize the image manually in the metrics tab of the inspector so that the full image is represented in each slide (Fig 1b and 2b below).  I have to type in the dimension that is being cropped (768 in Fig 1, 1024 in Fig 2).  This further downsamples the image fitting the entire image on the slide which is desired.  Doing this for each slide can be burdensome though if I am showing slideshows of 100 or so images.  My question is if there is a way to get the results below automatically.  I would like to drop multiple images into my slideshow and have it be downsampled so that the entire image fits on the slide.  Does anyone know how to make Keynote do this?  Thanks.

I have been using Elements 8 ever since it came out, and all of a sudden the cropping tool has changed: I can no longer crop horizontally or vertically, only diagonally. The up/down/side arrows have disappeared! Please help if you can, I'm no longer able to make my photos look their best. Thank you in advance.

Quit the editor (Quit PSE on a mac). Then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • QTpro no longer working with WMV3 video

Has anything changed with QT that would prevent me from working with video that is WMV3 video and WMA2 stereo? I worked with several files of this format in October of 2008 and saved them to my MacBook only to find today that QTpro (v.7.6) tells me that it won't play and I need to install something else. I ran software update today and am still having the problem upon reboot. This baffles me since I spliced sections of these videos in QTpro and saved them as stand alone movies that were working like a charm in Keynote etc.
I then went to the web source where I grabbed these videos and noticed that playback seems to be broken in Firefox now as well and is calling it "windows media"

Your files are Windows Media Player format and QuickTime doesn't support them without that third party software.

  • When placing a PDF created with Distiller, I only get Crop and Media as import options -- I need it to crop to the Trim! PLEASE HELP!

I'm having a MAJOR problem placing PDF files in InDesign CS4...
When I try to place a PDF that has been created in Distiller, the ONLY import options I can choose are CROP and MEDIA. I need it to crop to the TRIM, but that option is grayed out. The PDFs I'm trying to place were created in-house, and converted from Post Script files to PDFs using Distiller. We use PDF/X-1a equivalent settings when creating our PDFs.
If I export the file as a PDF and then try to place it into a CS4 file, I am able to select Trim as an option.
ALSO, if I open the Distiller PDF in Acrobat and then save it (without changing anything), I am able to select Trim as an option. A workaround I have found is to open all of the PDF files in Acrobat, save them to my desktop, and then save over the ones I need to place. Here's the problem with that: I work for a publishing company, and need to place hundreds of ads for each issue of our publications, and it adds a lot of time if I have to go and re-save everything just to be able to place all the ads.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I need to get this figured out so we can use CS4 for all of our publications again. -- We've gone back to using CS3 until I can get this figured out...
    - Valerie

    Steve,
Thanks for the reply, but my PDFs all have trim boxes on them. If I try to place the same PDF in InDesign CS3, it gives me Trim as an option. Also, if I open the PDF and save a copy to my desktop, I am able to select Trim as an option when placing the PDF, and I didn't change anything about it.
I've been trying to see if it's something with the Print Preset settings I'm using, but I can't find anything that seems like it would affect how InDesign would read the Trim area of the PDF.
I've attached 2 PDF files. One that was created with Distiller, and one that was exported from InDesign CS4. The Distiller one doesn't show Trim as an option in CS4, but the exported one does.... but they started out as the same ad.  Ugh!  Help me please!

  • When opening an image Photoshop Elements 12 is opening it in Camera Raw, it is not a RAW image and it is cropped How do I uncrop the opened image?

When I am opening a .jpg image not an actual raw camera image from Elements 12 it is being opened as a camera Raw image and the image is cropped, I can't find anyway to get the image to uncrop or zoom out so that the entire image is visible so that I can actually edit it to something that is useable. The images were taken with an iPad and copied I suspect using the organizer from Elements 11 but I can't be sure. If I could just uncrop the opened image so that the entire image is visible this would not be a big deal.
Is there a way to uncrop the image that is being opened by Camera Raw? Am I going to have to get my hands on the source of the images (the iPad) and copy the images again using explorer and not let them be copied with the organizer?

Uncheck the boxes at the bottom of the dialog Scale styles and resample Image so that only constrain proportions is checked. If you the change the resolution box from 240 to 300 you will get back to your original dimensions.
This is a meaningless thing to do, you still have the exact same number of pixels, you have only changed the metadata number in the file for ppi, and your prints are not affected by this number.
You could also use the same method to change the dimensions to 6 x 4 or 9 x 6 etc.
There are some cases (actually most cases) where you need to CROP the photo to change the dimensions, when the aspect ratio of the original photos is different than the aspect ratio of the final photo; the specific case in 99jon's example is the only case you ever want to change dimensions using Image->Resize->Image Size, where the aspect ratio doesn't change from 6x4 to 9x6 (or 12x8 or 18x12 or ...), and even then, you could do the same thing simply by telling the printer the size you want, you don't really need to do anything in PSE.

  • Lightroom Bug: with GoPro Hero4 Silver Lens Profile, crop settings do not sync properly in Lightroom 5.7.1 when Constrain To Warp is checked

I was having a bit of difficultly in getting crop settings to properly sync in Lightroom 5.7.1 (running on OS X 10.10.1) when Constrain to Warp was checked.  This appears to be a bug in the latest version(s) of Lightroom that include(s) the GoPro Hero4 Silver Lens Profile settings.  I'm working with a lot of files from a GoPro Hero4 Silver camera shot in the time-lapse / interval timer mode.  All of them are horizontal with the same resolution (and dimensions).  I've tried various sequences to get this to work in terms of using Auto-Sync, resetting the settings on all images except one and then copy and pasting settings, etc, though the crop is not properly syncing regardless of what I do.
Here's are instructions of how to duplicate this issue (there are some extra details/steps here, though this should be clear enough to produce the same result):
         1.  in the Develop settings for a single selected image, go to Lens Corrections, click to Enable Profile Corrections (in the Profile tab), and then pick the GoPro Hero4 Silver Edition (Adobe Profile) if it is not automatically chosen for you (if you are using files from a Hero4 Silver camera).  After this, click on the Manual tab, and set the Scale setting to 76.  (as you will see, you now have the full horizontal width of the image that was getting cropped off, though you do see white around the edges that have been warped/shaped to correct the fisheye distortion)
         2.  Press the R key (or click on the Crop Overlay tool just below the histogram).  Change the Aspect option to Custom.  Click to unlock the lock next to it (this seems to re-lock after setting to custom even if it was locked before).  Place a checkmark next to the Constrain To Warp option.  (At this point, you'll see the image gets cropped back to an approximately 4:3 ratio and the full horizontal width is not included in the cropped area)  Click the upper right most corner of the crop area and drag as much to the right and top as it lets you go.  Do the same for the lower left corner, dragging it as far to the bottom left as you can go.  (Now, you will see that your cropped area is the maximum rectangular width and height you can select without getting any of the excessive white area)  Click the Close button (or press R again) to leave the crop overlay tool.
         3.  Press G to go back to the grid of images.  Make sure the image you just adjusted the settings for is the only one selected.  Right click on it, go to Develop Settings, and click Copy Settings.  Click Check All on the window that appears and then click Copy.
         4.  De-select the image you were working on.  Select multiple other images in the grid.  Right click on one of these, go to Develop Settings, and click Paste Settings.  (at this point, you will see their aspect ratio has become more panoramic than the 4:3 aspect ratio the images previously were)
         5.  De-select these images.  Select one of these image, and then press D to go to the Develop settings for this image.  Press R to go to the Crop Overlay tool.  Here you will see the bug where the crop was not properly copied over from the first image.  The selected area is smaller than the full width and height available to crop.
It seems that the bug is that Lightroom is only copying the aspect ratio (and the other settings), but not the actual crop selection.
I just thought of a workaround that I've tested and can confirm works (and will also work in a slightly different workflow than above).  In step 1 above, for the Model (and Profile), manually pick the "GoPro Hero4 Black Edition" or the "GoPro Hero3-Silver Edition".  If using the "Hero3-Silver" setting, the Scale (also in step 1 above) need only be set to 79 (rather than 76 for the Hero4 profiles).  By picking one of these Lens Profiles and doing everything else the same as the other steps above, the crop settings do copy and paste properly.  This does also appear to work properly when selecting the "GoPro Hero3-White Edition" Lens Profile, with a Scale setting of 75, which yields a slightly more rectilinear image (with a wider aspect ratio -- almost, but not quite 16:9).
While this isn't too big of deal as it does work by picking one of the other lens profiles (and the Hero4 Black Edition profile appears to make the same exact correction to the image), this was incredibly frustrating last night to notice that some files had the proper horizontal field of view / crop and others didn't, and other users may experience this or not even notice their crop is not copied properly (as, depending on one's composition and image, it's not extremely obvious with such a wide view).
I hope this discovery helps someone else and provides feedback for Adobe to correct this issue in the next version of Lightroom 5.
On a separate, additional note for Adobe:  Please allow the crop overlay tool to "crop" an image to a size that is larger than the original dimensions of the image.  This would allow for one to retain maximum original sharpness in the center of the image when using the Lens Profile tool to correct, or "de-fish" a lens, without having to scale the image down with the Scale option on the Manual tab of the Lens Corrections settings.  For example, when I do the above process selecting the Hero3-White Edition profile, my final image dimensions are 3840 by 2257 pixels, reducing the size of the image in the center by 25%.  If the tool allowed one to crop/scale a larger image size, and I kept the Scale option of the Lens Corrections settings at 100 rather than 75, my final image dimensions would be 5120 by 3009 pixels (larger than the 4000 by 3000 pixel dimensions of the original image which the tool now limits me to).  Yes, the edges would be a little softer but the center would retain the original detail.  (this is essentially what the Calculate Optimal Size button found in the Hugin open source software does, when using it on a single image for lens transformations/corrections)

Can you zip up a few of your GoPro images, upload them to dropbox.com and post a share link, here, so others can experiment with them, or do you mean this issue is global to all camera models?

  • Photoshop CC imprecise cropping on Windows 7

    Hello,
I have been trying to precisely (with pixel accuracy) crop some images in Photoshop CC in Windows 7. The "new" crop tool, regardless how zoomed in I am, jumps in increments of about 2 or 3 pixels. I have used Photoshop for decades on a Mac, and the crop process there allows you to drag the crop edges/handles smoothly, with no jumping at all. Is this a Windows issue? Or maybe a Wacom issue? I've used the exact same tablet/mouse on a Mac for years with no problems.
If I set the crop option to 'use classic mode', the problem isn't quite as bad, but it's still not as good as on a Mac.
I am using a Wacom mouse on a Wacom tablet. The issue does not seem to be quite as bad if I use the Wacom pen.
I've got all the hardware acceleration options turned on (I have an Nvidia Quadro 4000 graphics card).
Anyone else come across this problem? Or is it just me?
    Thanks,
    Paul

I have always been able to crop (or do anything else) to the individual pixel with a regular old optical mouse on my PC workstations, so it's certainly not a PC limitation.
Might there be a tablet resolution setting that needs to be tweaked?  Those things are supposed to be able to work down to some ten thousandths of an inch as I recall.
I don't have a tablet myself, but Google turns up a lot of "how to" guides on checking/setting the many parameters that matter.  For example, one of the top matches:

Try deleting the imovie preference file.
    Close Imovie.
Then locate a file named com.apple.imovie.plist and get rid of it. Then empty the trash, run a permissions repair with disk utility and restart. That might do it. The files you need to delete are found in:
