QTPro opens a 1080i compressed file on WinXP OS machine, but white screen?

I am trying to open a HDV file created on a MAC system in .mov format using Quick Time Pro under Win XP.
I can open this file in MPEG-4, and DVCPRO-NTSC, and they view fine. but when I try to open the same files generated using AppleCodec 1080i, or DVCPRO-HD1080i it opens with sound but the video is all white. This I believe means that the proper codec is missing from my QTPRO for Win software.
What codec can I get to use opening these HDV files in QTPRO on my WinXP system??
Ulimately I am planning to use the video in 3D Studio max for video compositing with CG characters.
Any help would be greatly apreciated!

The HD codec used on the Mac system is known as Apple Intermediate Codec and isn't available in the PC version of QuickTime.
I'm not a HD user and I don't know of a workaround for the missing codec.
I suppose you could export from the Mac at 1920X1080 and use a loss-less codec like Animation that would work on a PC.
You may also find some answers in the high end Pro apps Discussions pages (Final Cut Pro and Compressor).

The screen above is not the same at all that I got in Elements 12, it was completely different and showed me a thumbnail below the listing when I single clicked on one of the files. In Elements 12, I also could see a thumbnail of all the file types, not only the jpegs. It is as if the loader is the regular Windows used anywhere, not the right one for Elements. I hope someone understands my problem.. Thanks.

Open the same raw file in PS5 with two different White Balance settings

I'm trying to open the same Raw File in PS5 with two different White Balance settings. One setting "as shot" the other in "daylight", then blend them. The tutorial I'm watching says to "stack" the images. The tutorial shows one White Balance setting as the "Background" layer and the other setting as "Layer 1". I don't know how to do this and the tutorial is not specific. Can anyone either point me to a step by step instruction or offer some assistance?

Also look at the "Snapshots" feature of Camera Raw itself. It allows you non-destructively to keep multiple sets of settings for a single raw file.
Learning about it far exceeds the scope of what can be done in this particular forum. I would recommend this book as essential reading:

Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac).

I can not figure out how to copy and paste, the instructions said to open the user.js file in my profile directory but there is no such file. How can I fix this?

I searched the site for a fix but the instructions weren't very clear about inserting files and lines. I could not find the user.js file and i was not sure how to create a file, but i could create a folder. Could I use a microsoft word file or what?

Just figured it out, somehow the default Thunderbird start page got changed to accuweather.com - Under tools/options and the general tab. I noticed this and clicked restore to default and now the body of my messages are loading properly. Weird - I guess since it was attempting to load a webpage it crapped out the body text and loading nothing. Who know - just glad its working and maybe can help someone else with this issue!

This problems have happened ever since downloading 3.6.14. I downloaded the newest version of Shockwave Flash. I've disabled add-ons one at a time. Everything works in Safari, but I can't access email; trying to open links in other windows opens a blank page; no videos show up on YouTube or similar links. I trashed and downloaded Firefox again, but I'm still having the same problems.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I just recently updated to firefox 15 and almost every 5mins it crashes. when I open a new browser all i get is a blank white screen. Is there a way to fix this

Thanks for the prompt reply. I understand what you are suggesting however in CS6 PS when I open a Red R3D file (on my windows machine)
photoshop opens the file as 8 bit/ch WITHOUT going through ACR, not offering the option of opening it as a 16 bit file in ACR.
I presume PS "thinks" the R3D file is just 8 bit and doesn't "know" to start up Camera Raw 7 to allow opening it as a 16 bit file
No easy fix I'm guessin' ?

Can't open large layered pdf files. Not enough memory

I have a large 300 M layered pdf file that when I attempt to open eventually pops up the "not enough memory (RAM) message.
I am on a windows XP Power Spec computer with 1.97 GB RAM I have allocated 1106 MB for memory useage, 12 history states and 8 cache level.
I have a 187 GB Seagate exterior harddrive as my main scratch disk and a mirrored main drive C with 154 GB of free space as my second scratch disk.
I also experience a canvas disapearance occasionally when using the polygonnal lasso tool. I can be clicking along and all of the sudden the image disapears until I click again. Annoying but not unworkable.
Any ideas?

I can open psd and other file formats of equal size but not pdf's. I switched the scratch discs around to see if that helped but still am getting the same issues
