QTSS streams very pixelated

Hello-
We have QTSS running on a 10.5.8 Xserve which hosts streaming media converted using the latest Final Cut Studio. We use 300 kbps h.264 streaming as the compression type. When people go to view the video content, they complain that the video is very pixelated and hard to watch. The video plays fine locally and on the server. We have checked our packet shaper and bandwidth and everything is configured correctly. Has anyone ever run into an issue like this? Any idea?
Thanks

I'm having a similar issue in 10.6.2. If I have high bit rate streams, > approx 6 Mbps, the client video is horrible. It looks like it drops anchor frames. I've tested it with a single stream to a mac on the same gigabit lan. QTSS doesn't show any dropped frames. I've even tried streaming from localhost to QT Player on the Xserve. Same issue. But if I just open the movie file in QT player (not using the server), it plays fine.
I've had the same issue with unicast and multicast from QTB.
Apple Genius recommended I try backing down to 10.5 and see if I still see the issue.
He is supposed to have an answer for me tomorrow. If I get a usable solution, I'll post back.
Basically, I'm trying to encode a 720P live feed to stream from our main sanctuary to overflow rooms at our church for Easter. Projection of feeds will be on large screens, hence the high bitrate.

  • Ichat very pixelated and audio lagging

Hi everyone. I have a 1 year old Imac and my niece has a brand new Macbook Pro she bought for college. She is at college and using their ethernet connection and when we try to video chat she is very pixelated and the audio very delayed. Not sure how to fix this problem but any suggestions would be appreciated. One other note, both computers have snow leopard installed. I don't have a problem with anyone else just her. Thanks

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
For iChat 3 and 4 both of you should go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming and set the speed to 1.5Mbps and restart iChat.
After that if you are still having issues the faster Internet Connected person should go to iChat menu > Preferences > Video section and set the Bandwidth Limit to 500kbps (Allow time for iChat to adjust).
Both of you should try this at different speeds. I would not go below 200kbps.
The reason for the last is that really fast Buddies can overwhelm the buffering that iChat has and it cannot "keep up" and drops frames.

Please help me!--rendering makes the images or video blurry (very pixelated) deteriorates the image  Adobe Premier Elements 13  need help!  .jpg and mpeg images,  but I have never "rendered" before since I got APE 13 about 6 weeks ago.  I am desperate for assistance!

That's going to be a ridiculous waste of money and energy.
First of all, the current ATI drivers don't support multiple GPUs, so at the moment even a single 4870X2 would be only a 'normal' 4870 (which is quite a speed beast already). GFX drivers evolve rapidly, so things might look different next month, but when it comes to Linux and hardware there's one Golden Rule: stay away from the newest stuff and wait for proper support to get coded.
I also wonder what power supply could possibly cope with the differences between idle and full load; that's way beyond 400W. But then, I'm one of those "quiet&green" types where >100W idle is already a bit much.
I kind of understand that you want to get it done and not worry about hardware for the next 10 years or so, but that's simply not how the hardware world works and never did. At least not for the average consumer.

  • Exported files appear very pixelated

    Hi,
Today I tried exporting some photos from iPhoto using both the File > Export command as well as using the "Mail" toolbar button to export photos to Apple Mail. I set the export option to use the highest quality JPG but to reduce the file size to a "medium" setting.
The resulting file, for every photo that I exported, was very pixelated and the overall quality looked very poor. Even with the photo zoomed at 100%, I could easily see pixels.
I tried doing a similar photo size reduction in Photoshop and the final files look great. I was hoping to use iPhoto for quick and easy exports when I want to reduce the file size (such as for e-mail) but am not having luck with the pixelation.
    Any advice?

    Terence:
If your pixel count was the same as Neil's, or very close due to the different aspect ratio, the the dpi value is of no consequent. It only means that if printed at that value, your print would be 2.5 times smaller than Neil's.
I exported a 2625 x 1969 pixel image with the max quality and medium size. Upon opening in Photoshop it read 640 x 480 but with a dpi of 656.25 dpi. The print size was 0.975 x 0.731 inches. The total pixels were the same as yours. I then exported a 1600 x 1200 file at medium and got a 180 dpi reading in PS. Same 640 x 480 pixels. Don't know why PS handles them differently.
    Neil:
Have you, in the past, been able to export the medium size and have it acceptable? Is this just since iPhoto 08? Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. See if that will help.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I have an older MacBook Pro 3.1 that has worked great for a long time. On start up the screen is very pixelated and cascades to a large power button that states my computer needs to be restarted (in several languages). Any ideas as to the cause?

  • When I export a photo from lightroom, the image is very pixelated.

When I export a photo from lightroom, the image is very pixelated. This pixelization occurs irrespective of whether I make adjustments in Lightroom.  It seems that just placeing the photo into he develope modual  without doing anything to it taints the image in such a manner that when it is exported from the develope modual the expot comes out pixelated.

    Brett,
The photo i was a panorama knitted in Photoshop from four photos which were approx 3.3 MB each. The knitted pic came out to be 1.10MB. The panorama pic I was trying to refine in Lightroom and export came out to be 70.9 KB and extremly pixilated. Whether I altered it  in Lightroom  or not didn't matter.
I can't imagine that bringing up the photo in the Develop modual would result in pixilization when it was exported regardless of whether it was altered or not altered.!!
Attached is  a copy of the Photoshop saved and Lightroom exported photos before and after. I appreciate your help and interest. The top pic 1.10MB is what was saved on Photoshop. The bottom pic 70.9KB is the unaltered pic exported out of the Develop modual exhiiting the pixelization.

Etiquette Shmediquette if I want to send someone an image of good size for whatever reason, like they may want to print the image, I will do that.
This may not pertain to why the OP is sending larger images then the recipient may need. I don't know that. But just because someone says I should send smaller images because of their opinion about email eitquette doesn't make it mandatory. Which was my point.
No need to google anything. I don't send emails with attachments for no reason to anyone.
It an ISP or mail provider doesn't want you to send larger files then they will limit the size of the file attachment and reject it based on that. As they already do. Most have an email file size limit of 10MB.
This may of been a issue back in the days of slow dialup and low Boardband speeds but not today.
    Thanks.

  • DVDSP output very pixelated in spots

Hi all, I've just burned a DVD using DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 with a Quicktime file, and one part of it is very pixelated. The original QT file looks fine in that spot. Is there anything I can do to improve the quality? The project uses only 1.5 Gigs so I know the file's not too big. Though the QT file is about 6 gigs.
    thanks!

  • Apple tv 2 streams very slowly from my macbook when on BT home hub router...

I have had the ATV2 for about a year and a half. On the previous Virgin internet and going via a Linksys business router we had no problems. Since we moved to BT, and were given Infinity with the latest modem/router, the streaming of films from the macbook pro to the ATV2 is too slow to watch the film in real time. It stops to buffer every 10 minutes or so, but each time for at least 2-3 minutes.
The internet itself works very quickly, so it's just the streaming through the router that's a problem. Are there any router setting I can change to help it?

Keith and John, thanks for quick response.
I never opted in to BT FON or BTOpenzone, and don't recall them ever appearing when I occasionally searched wireless networks.  BT WiFi popped up spontaneously just recently.  I think opting out may fix the problem, but I would prefer to have the choice rather than being effectively forced into this.  I have been using encrypted connection for several years at the full 54Mbps before this happened.  I have tried to change the channel too, but no difference.  I accept that the wireless speeds are file transfer rates and are not actually broadband speed - the broadband speed has not been affected, it's just the wireless speed that decreased.  It's very annoying when I've been using the same BT Home Hub and laptop for around four years and now this has happened.  It seems ironic that I have to connect via the public connection to my own Home Hub in order to get proper wireless speed.
I assume that no-one has reported different wireless speeds between their "direct" wireless connection and BT WiFi (or its predecessors)?
Is there any way to access the BT WiFi configuration in the hub?  (The traditional software doesn't seem to.)
Are the later generation hubs likely to avoid this problem?
    Thanks
