Quacking sound with voice effects

I'm using GarageBand as an 'open mic' processor to add vocal effects live (using Soundflower to carry the output to other apps). Whatever effects I use, there is an echo on the monitored sound, which sounds distinctly like a 'quack'. Altering the recording level does not make it disappear, just makes it louder or quieter along with the vocal.
This is not feedback. I am using the internal mic, but monitoring through earphones. The noise is in GarageBand as changing the output from Soundflower to the built-in speakers makes no difference either.
What's causing this distortion? Could it be the mic itself? (Unlikely - removing voice effects stops the noise).

sounds distinctly like a 'quack'.

  • N85 - distorted sound with voice calls

    Hi, anyone had this problem.
The sound [on a normal voice call] is very distorted. From the handset speaker [NOT the loudspeaker]
A week ago, i did drop the phone from my top pocket while crouching on the ground. It didn't even get a scratch on it, so I assumed it was not damaged from such a small fall.
Is it possible that it's damaged the speaker/wiring/ etc:??
    thanks,
    BlueFlame

it is confirmed that the motherboard has shorted-out.
Reasons how this could have happened:-
plugging the iphone into a self-powered speaker system with the headphone jack (not dock connector)Power Surge !
living in a high-humidity country (causes mineral build-up & moisture ... bla bla bla)
Q : Why everything else works but the sound crackles?
    A : Its an X-File
    What to do now ?
Trade-in or get a new phone - either way, wallet will hemorrhage money.

Hello, please help, my interface is connected to the microphone and when i open Logic 9 it does´t work. But I opened garageband to check and it works fine. I can record voice with any effect... With Logic i see the sound passes in the interface but does not arrive in Logic. The Loops works fine and i can hear. Is just the sound to record the voice it does not work. What can i do ??? I used Logic before in the same computer and it worked fine. Thank you so much, I´m a begginer recording myself.

Make sure you go into preferences in Logic and set the audio input to be your interface and the audio output to be either built in output or the interface, if that is hooked up to something else. It sounds like Garageband has the audio interface set as the input but not Logic.
Also make sure you close all other applications except Logic to ensure it is not running in slave mode...

  • Why does my voice effect change the way my music sounds too?

I have an instrumental track that I was recording my voice over and I put my vocals in the Mouse Effect. When I played it back my music was in the mouse effect too. How can I just have my voice in Mouse effect and my music with no effect when I record? It says no effect on the music track, but it still sounds like a mouse.

No. I notice that it only happens when I split the track. I wanted the music to start at a certain point so I split it so it would start in the middle.

  • Where have the voice effects gone on my Audigy sound ca

    Hi
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy with the latest drivers.
In the EAX Console i find the sound effects, but only the environmental ones, not the voice effects (Chipmunk, Alien, Zeus etc..).
I have another 2 Creative cards which i bought earlier which had those effects: Li've 4. and an Audigy 2 ZS.
The Audigy 2 ZS i have on another computer has the exact same Surrond Mixer, EAX Console and the other sound card settings, but in that one i can find the voice effects under the EAX Console.
Does this mean my sound card doesn't support these? It doesn't make any sense.
Or do i need to use another driver?
Also the environmental effects list is a lot shorter than in the other 2 cards.

Hi Thanks for the reply - the rendering option is greyed out...I've just updated graphics drivers and this has made no difference. I've read that the Mercury engine won't support some GPUs and they have to be enabled manually, but have no idea if this is what is happening here...all I do know is that 2 weeks ago I was using the feather effect and now I'm not able to and all the accelerated affects are now greyed out.
I'm using windows 7, 64 bit - same result on premiere pro CC and CS6...

  • Help with Voice Over - clean up inspiration

Hi there, I'm recording some audio in my home for a video tutorial. Trouble is I'm getting some nasty sounds and it seems it's taking me forever to clean up the file.
Settings: using the Podcast Voice effect rack, using a blue yeti mic, nothing too professional about it.
    Trouble:
    - I constantly have to insert silence at the start of each new phrase. The Podcast voice effect even augments the inspiration effect, but even without it's quite obvious;
    - My "S"s are really strong, tried deesser, no big hit there
    - I constantly make a sound with my lips at the start of each phrase - not sure how to call it.
What can I do to automate the clean up process since I have over 5 hours of recorded audio? I'd like to be able to select a certain sound (like my inspiration) and totally remove it from everywhere. Tried that with the noise print, but didn't help.
If it's not obvious, I'm quite a newbie at this.
    Thank you.

It's hard to know where to start with this - but your problem isn't going to be solved by processing. You have to get the source recording done properly, and there's no way around this. If you want your results to sound like a professional production, then you have to approach it the way a professional voice artiste would.
Your initial problem is clearly in your microphone technique. You need to be 7-8" from the microphone, but not speaking directly at it. You want it either slightly above or below your mouth level, and offset to one side slightly - this will reduce a lot of the problems you are picking up, but not all of them. And get, and use, a pop screen.
To fix more of your problems, you are going to have to learn a sensible breathing techique - which invariably involves breathing in more slowly, and through your nose. Lip-smacking almost invariably results from drinking the wrong things (or nothing) before or during your recording session. Basic rules are - no coffee or tea or any other stimulants, and nothing which forms a mucus in your mouth, like milk. Basically, the best thing is to drink nothing but water anywhere near or during the time of your recording session.
Other things you should do include speaking in a controlled manner - make sure that you pronounce the ends of words at the same rate as the starts of them, and leave time to breath slowly between sentences - this also helps your audience to assimilate what you're saying.
Once you've sorted this out, you should end up with no more than a content editing session. As for your 5 hrs of material - well, you won't be able to fix it in a satisfactory manner whatever you do if it's as bad as you say, and you could easily spend more than 5 hrs failing to do this. So I know it's painful, but scrapping it is your best option here. Spend some time fixing the problems at source, and you'll get all the time back, and some, in the long run. So do a few experimental test runs, and listen to the results - you'll soon find out what helps and what doesn't.

  • How can I record EAX voice effect

    Hi,
I have a SB 5. board in my machine and in EAX Control Panel I've beeing joking a lot with some voice effects like Zeus or Chipmunk.
But when I try to record my Microphone sound using any kind of program, those effects are not recorded, only my normal voice. For voice chats, the result is the same: I can hear my voice modified but other people don't.
So, how should I proceed to record those effects and/or make then 'hearable' for other people thru voiced chats like MSN or SKYPE ?
    Thank you,
    Kurt

    See User's Manual page 3-3.
If you do not have a manual you find it here from
If your card is Bulk then you find the manual from here.
If you do not have the Creative Surround Mixer -software then install it first
    (bundled with your card (CD)).
The rec level is the red (left most) slider and the source selector is above the
slider. Select there "What U hear".

  • Isolating voice effects/enhancement to tracks

    Hey all,
I'm having trouble isolating voice effects such as autotune to the voice only during a playback or recording. Autotune seems to tamper with the piano sounds and other instruments. I want to effects to influence the voice only and leave the piano sounds alone. How do I do this?

if you use an effect on a single track, not the Master track, it will affect only that track.
you'll need to explain in detail what you're doing/your setup if this appears to not be the case

  • Problems with voice memo

    Hey,
i've got a problem with voice memos. When i record them they are very quiet. It's something different when i record sound via video or use the headphones to record a voice memo. Then they have a normal volume. Any ideas?
Got an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.1
    Thanks.

Do you have Include Voice Memos selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, this means the voice memos on your iPhone should have been transferred to your iTunes library on your computer. If these are available in your iTunes library, delete the voice memos from your iTunes library on your computer followed by a sync.

In my first iPhone 5, the speaker didn't work and people could not hear me on Speaker phone when I used it. When I used the video recording it did not record sound at all only a hissing/static sound, no voice. I wished for a software fix. I did a hard reset, nothing. I did a full restore to factory settings not putting my backup on and the problem persisted.

I did every step in the link that i have been provided with (thank you), but I’m
still experiencing the same issue. My experience with Apple has been
excellent and this has been the first time I have experienced something
like this with an Apple product. I hope we can find a quick solution.
In order to get the iPhone 5 as soon as it launched (being a major fan of
Apple products!), I purchased my iPhone 5 from the UK through a friend of
    mine who lives there.
My question is: can I have the faulty device replaced within Saudi by one
of the official resellers here (we have 3: STC, Mobily and Zain)? I want to
avoid the disruption, complication and expense of sending it back to the
    UK.
Could you advise whether this is possible or not, and if not how should I
go about having the device replaced?
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

    Nice try! Take a hike.

  • Does the Sennheiser MM50 work with Voice Control?

I'm not double posting -- over at "using 3Gs" I asked if anyone had any idea what other earphones I could use with voice control, but after researching these Sennheiser MM50 iP phones look like just the ticket... except I'm not sure they work with the voice control itself.
They have a mic and a pause/answer button -- has anyone tried theirs to see if it will do the same job on voice control as the Apple earbuds do? (Which, IMHO, is superb). I do hate to give up volume control, but I can live without it for better overall sound (too bad the VC doesn't allow you to just say "louder" or "softer" <g>.

I would assume all earphones work that have a mic. No reason why they shouldn't

  • Exporting multiple video tracks as 1 file with different effects on each track.

I am currently trying to export 3 video tracks as 1 mp4.
Each track has exactly the same footage, but with different effects to achieve a certain aesthetic.
When I view the sequence it in premiere all 3 tracks are displayed correclty.
The exported version appears to only export the uppermost track, track 3.
Track 2 and 3 have opacity set to 47%.
Track 1 opacity is set to 100%.
I have tried exporting a test project that has multiple layers and there was no problem.
I have NOT tried exporting a test project with exactly the same opacities and effects, as it's a bit time consuming. I will do so if I can't get a stisafctory solution from the forums.
The problem, I believe, is down to the layering of effects. In this case on track 3 I have procamp, which is boosting the red in 1 layer. This is the image I get once the final piece is exported - track 3's.
    So..
How do I get the effects of each layer to show properly in the export?
    and
Why is the exported version missing tracks (or the effects of tracks) 1 and 2?

You didn't answer probably the most important question: whether you're using hardware or software Mercury Playback Engine (MPE). However, since you've set Maximum Render Quality on, it's largely irrelevant.
When you're using hardware MPE or have the MRQ flag set for your export, rendering is performed with linear color. Linear color processing affects how color channels and alpha channels are composited--anything less than 100% opacity is subject to linear color processing. Check out this article for more information on linear color/linear light: Linear Light - Artbeats
Since it sounds like you're seeing the results you expect in the Program Monitor, but not export, I'll wager you're not using hardware MPE. Only by disabling the Maximum Render Quality flag on export will you be able to get results that match what you see in the Program Monitor (within reason, of course). The only way you could see the effects of linear color within Premiere would be to either use a qualified GPU that enables hardware MPE, or go into your Sequence Settings and check the "Maximum Render Quality" option and then render previews.
Please let me know if that helps resolve the issue, or at least provide a little insight into the problem.

  • Re: How do solve volume adjust problem on background music with voice

I have using Captivate 6,i have facing in adjust volume on  background music with voice when drag play bar and using backward, forward buttons in preview.

    Hey there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions.
If your iPod, is a 30 GB model, then it is a 5th generation iPod. This information can be found here: [Identifying iPod Models|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353]
There are a few ways you could go about solving this issue. The first thing is to enable Sound Check on your iPod, which can be found under *Main Menu -> Settings -> Sound Check*. Next, be sure the option is also enabled in iTunes. The setting is in iTunes preferences Playback pane. Place a check next to the box for *Sound Check*.
Another option is to adjust the overall volume of the song in iTunes, and then sync the updated changes to your iPod. To do this, locate the song(s) in iTunes, right->click and choose *Get Info* from the menu. From there, head over to the Options tab. Move the slider up and down depending on whether you want to bring the overall volume up or down and then hit Ok when you are finished. Lastly, sync your iPod to update the changes made to the altered songs. See if that helps.
There are also excellent 3rd party applications that can adjust the songs overall volume. One can be found [HERE|http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net>.
    Hope this helps.

  • Presentation with Voice Annotation

    To all:
I am about to embark on a project of creating an extensive slide presentation with voice narration. I've used PPT before with good results but without sound. I would like to be able to do my new project in Keynote 3 but I'm not sure how to best handle the addition of voice narration.
I believe there is a way to embed sound with powerpoint and then save out to a QT movie. Keynote has a way of recording sound for each slide but I'm not sure how to best do this and whether or not the sound will carry over. All comments are appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Howard
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I've used both Powerpoint and Keynote for this, and both work, but I find that Keynote is easier to use. I teach college anthropology courses, and this basically is how I make my lectures each week for my online class. I use Amadeus II to record the sound files as Mp3s and name each sound file designating which slide they go with (chap1-1.mp3, chap1-2.mp3, etc). GarageBand would work, but Amadeus has a simpler interface. In PowerPoint you have to use a series of menu options to add the sound file to the slide, in Keynote just drag-and-drop the sound files onto the slides. Once the sound files are in place, go to File>Export and choose "Self-Playing Movie" from the drop down menu. Set a slide duration and build length of 1... this means that once the sound file finishes, the slide will change after 1 second. If you leave the slide duration at 5 (the default), there will be a 5 second gap between the end of the sound file and the slide advancing. The Interactive Movie option means the viewer would have to advance the slide once the sound file is finished, rather than the slides automatically advancing at the end of the sound. Change the video format settings in the "custom" area of the "Formats" drop down menu. I use 600 x 450 pixels, and since my slides are text only, I use 1 frame per second. Once everything is set, click "export". The process of creating the movie file will take a while (30 minutes or more, depending on your computer, the length of the movie and the settings you chose) Be aware that this QT file can be very large. A 25-30 slide presentation with a voice-over that runs 20-25 minutes can be over 200 megabytes, depending on what size you set for the video and the framerate. To reduce the size to something that can be posted on the web or sent through the mail I use QuickTime Pro to re-save the movie using some of the more thorough compression options.
    I hope this helps-
    Katrina
