Quad + 7800 GT + two 20" cinema = issues

So I'm running a quad with the GeForce 7800 GT and two new apple 20 inch displays. Occasionally, one monitor will go to sleep while I am working, and then the other will go to sleep, and then they will both wake up. Typically, it happens in bursts of 2-3 cycles then it's fine for a minute or two. Restarting usually clears it up and once restarted, the problem usually solves itself.
Any ideas?

Have you noticed any kind of trigger or pattern to these occurrences?
How long does it typically stay 'fixed'?

  • Two 23" Cinemas and only one...

    I just placed two 23" Cinemas on my Mac Pro.
    I noticed that the keyboard screen controls only seem to work in "mirrored" mode, which I don't ever use.
    I found a little utility called appropriately, "Brightness Control" which works great, but it seems to me odd that Apple puts two video ports on here and only controls one display.
    Now, I admittedly don't have the USB/FireWire ports on the second display connected, but I can't imagine that's the reason as it works in mirrored mode.
    Does anyone know if it should indeed work with both displays?

    Well, I plugged in the USB on both displays and the software still only controls the main display unless in mirrored mode.
    I find it really hard to believe that this should be the case...
    In the meantime, it's back to using Brightness Control

  • Two video cards issue

    Any fix for the "Hardware cannot render at the requested size and depth" when having two video cards issue?

    Now, the strange thing is: after a few initial issues one of the macs is doing fine. The second one, on the contrary, is a nightmare. Finalcut gives a green screen of death and hangs up suddenly while performing simple operations (like dropping a clip on the timeline).
    I'm thinking of trying to replace the two video cards with an older single dual display card, and giving up the fancy lcd monitors (that i bought at vast cost), at least until apple issues an upgrade that adresses the two video card problem. <
    If the machines are mechanically equal, it's obviously not the cards. Although you can only be absolutely certain if you swap the cards between machines and see if the green screen issue follows one or both cards.
    However, that new LCD display and card combination doesn't have much time in the pipeline so there could be other issues and you're doing the beta testing for all of us. Blaming the reseller is pointless; no one can keep track of all of these issues. We only find out about them only because of reported failures.
    You should research the "green screen" here on the forum. I do not recall if there are display or graphics cards issues associated with it. That seems unlikely. IIRC, it appears to be a QT issue.

  • CS5 HDR pro two photos alignment issue

    Although I really enjoy the new tool, I'm having trouble aligning two photograph when I open then through the HDR pro tool.
    Why is alignment of two photos so bad in HDR pro and perfect if you align the two same photos as two layers? I've even tried reopening the same files over and over and get different results each time in HDR pro.
    In view of this, shouldn't there be a realign button in the slider adjustment screen, or options for alignment, such as Use the regular auto-align?
    Since alignment works fine with layers, is it possible to have an option to use layers as a starting point for HDR pro instead of opening saved photos only? I realize this probably might not give perfect results as just fixing the automatic alignment issue...
    But hey, I'm just trying to find a workflow around this if I didn't have my tripod with me at time of shoot... and I shot only two photos to composite.

    Hi Chris,
    thanks for looking into this matter. Where do you want me to send the files (over 50 megs zipped).. they're CR2 files...

  • 2011 MBP 17" with two 27" Cinema Displays

    I know this question has been asked several times, but I have not found a satisfactory answer to the question whether with the new 2011 17" MacBook Pro, one can use two 27" Cinema displays *at full 2560 x 1440* resolution each? I do not care about the LCD panel, I only want to power the two external 27" cinema's at full resolution.
    The Matrox DualHead2go adapter seems to be limited at 1920 x 1200, and that is not good enough for what I want to accomplish. The USB adapters seem to be too slow for video playback as well and they seem buggy.
    Any ideas?

    I'm looking for the same solution.
    I have found this external pci solution but not 100% it will work. I was just gonna buy the raedon card with dual minidp output and run it externally. It says it's Mac compatible I'm just not sure if the video card will fit the enclosure. Heres the link. http://www.magma.com/2slot.asp

  • Want to run two 30" cinema displays from Mac Pro

    I'm running Avid Media Composer software to edit a film that I made, and I would like to run (if possible) two Apple 30" cinema displays next to each other off of my Mac Pro (the computer was purchased at end of 2009). While editing with Avid software, I like to spread out my work and bins in able to see everything, and strange as it may sound, I'd like more room than one 30" display can provide. Currently, I have one Apple 30" Cinema display in use, and could purchase another large display if I can find out-- definitively, if my Mac Pro computer will be able to handle it and power it effectively. I realize that Apple doesn't sell the 30" displays anymore, but I saw a few relatively inexpensive ones available on Craigslist recently.
    The second monitor that I'm using now is a much older (non-Mac) monitor (and smaller) and the resolutions don't match the high resolution of my single Apple 30" display. So, my reason for wanting a second, larger display are twofold... 1) to see more of my work, and 2) to get the highest resolutions to match (2560x).
    The ports on the back of the Mac Pro don't look like they will support the use of a second 30" display, just one. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Do I need to purchase another video card to run a second 30" Apple display? If so, which ones are best/do you suggest?
    Do I need to upgrade my processing speed (get a faster processor) to run two large, high-rez monitors?
    specs:
    Mac Pro
    10.6.6
    Processor: 2 x 2.8 GHz
    Memory: 2 GB
    800 MHz DDRZ FB-DIMM
    Quad-Core Intel Xem
    Purchased end of 2009

    If it has two DVI ports, just plug in the second display with an additional Dual-Link DVI cable -- the card can run both displays without issue.
    If it has one DVI and one other type, Exactly which display card do you have installed?

  • Two way SSL issue in weblogic

    Hi All,
    we have enabled 2 way SSL in weblogic, we have one Admin Server and one managed (soa) server version 11.1.1.5
    steps we have followed:
    we have imported identity certificate and key file to a custom identity store
    improted trust certificates to a custom trust keystore
    in weblogic consile: soa_server1-> keystires : we have updated custom identity and trust details
    in weblogic consile: soa_server1-> ssl - we have updated required custom identity details and selected " Client Certs Requested And Enforced" for Two Way Client Cert Behavior.
    but while testing our process we are getting below error:
    we have tried openssl to test the connectivity but not sure about the output, is there any way to trace the SSL connection?
    any input will be really helpful.

  • Lifecam Cinema issue with Windows 8.1

    Hello,
    I have just purchased a new Lifecam Cinema HD.
    I have downloaded the latest  software from Microsoft site but after install there is no "Microsoft LifeCam Cinema" at program files menu but I can see the folder with all the files in Program Files (x86).
    Also when trying to use Skype the microphone is working but there is no video from the camera.
    I have tested LifeCam on windows XP and it is working without any issue.
    Thanks in advanced for any help.
    Asaf

    Hi,
    For this problem, in my opinion, it would be better to contact LifeCam Cinema support for further assistance:

  • Two 27 cinema displays (not thunderbolt)

    I have two non thunderbolt 27" cinema displays (2010).  I want to attach them to a mac mini, is that possible?
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    I tried the CinemaView Duo Dual Display Extender for Mini Displayport, but it causes one of the displays to resolve at 800x600 maximum, and is very distorted.

  • Two semi-serious issues with 21.5" i5 iMac...

    1.  The AirPort internet connection stalls out.  When I'm using Safari or Chrome it just acts like the computer isn't connected to the internet.  Sometimes the upper-right icon drops to two bars when this happens (it's usually five), and sometimes it doesn't.  Then I'll turn the AirPort off and on again, and it will work.  On two occasions it took about three times of doing this for it to work again.  This happens daily.
    2.  I just got a message prompting me to force quit an application because there wasn't enough startup disk space or "application memory" to keep running all TWO of them.  I was running iTunes and Safari.  I was actively using Safari (reading wikipedia, so nothing too demanding), with iTunes "hidden" playing songs from a playlist.  I just got another one while typing this.  EDIT: just before I submitted this question I got about five more of them in a row.
    3.  In general over the last two days it has been running much slower than it should.  I was using Google Earth with iTunes playing in the background and the graphics were extremely choppy and it kept glitching/freezing every few seconds.
    My iMac is about 2.5 weeks old, and I'm positive that all the software is up to date, as I just checked with the Software Update application.   What should I do???

    The Airport issue sounds like interference, which can be from any number of sources: microwave ovens, other strong, nearby signals, cordless phones etc. Try switching to a different channel. Adjust the router antenna or move its location, if possible. Might also try rebooting the router.
    For the other issue, first just try restarting. Sometimes this will help for system "glitches." If that doesn't help, then open Activity Monitor in Utilities, go to System Memory and see how much free and inactive RAM there are when you get these messages or things are slowing down. Also, look down at "page outs" and "swap used." With only iTunes and Safari open, and not having run anything else memory intensive before, you should be seeing zero for both. Are you sure you had no other applications still open?
    The Google Earth issue sounds like, maybe, your internet speed was dropping out
    Still in Activity Monitor, switch to CPU>All processes and see how much idle CPU there is.
    Another general thing to try is Verify Disk in Disk Utility in Utilities.
    Your Profile is showing 10.6.7, and you say all software is up to date. Try applying the 10.6.8 Combo update in Safe Boot. You can run this over the current 10.6.8. It might fix anything that's damaged or missing in the system files.

    Have a look at my recommendations for updating.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3139323?tstart=0
    Finally, you might want to run the Hardware Test in Extended.

    The latest surprise in my journey to the quad is that the video card port doesn't support my old 22" cinema display. Is there any kind of adapter that works with this display?

  • ACE with sticky http-cookies across two server farms issue

    Hi,
    /* Style Definitions */
    table.MsoNormalTable
    {mso-style-name:"Table Normal";
    mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0;
    mso-tstyle-colband-size:0;
    mso-style-noshow:yes;

    mso-style-qformat:yes;

    mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt;
    mso-pagination:widow-orphan;
    font-size:10.0pt;
    font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";}
    We need the same sticky http cookie to applied to two server farms (which are actually the same servers but listening on different ports in each farm) to persist sessions to the same real backend server.
    e.g.
    Farm1 (front end HTTP service) - StickyGroup1
    rserver1 - 192.168.0.1:80
    rserver2 - 192.168.0.2:80
    rserver3 - 192.168.0.3:80
    Farm2 (SSL front end authentication service) - StickyGroup2
    rserver1 - 192.168.0.1:443
    rserver2 - 192.168.0.2:443
    rserver3 - 192.168.0.3:443
    We have setup two Sticky Groups (one for each of the farms above) both using the same cookie name e.g. cookieXYZ
    Our service is behind a single virtual server configured as follows (example URL and addresses):
    Virtual Server Configuration
    Virtual server name: www.somedomain.com
    Virtual IP: 2.2.2.2
    TCP/443 (https)
    SSL Termination - Proxy service name: www.somedomain.com (all keys and certs loaded and correct)
    L7 Load Balancing - **inline** rule match HTTP URL:(/AuthenticateMe/).*  Action : Sticky, Group: StickyGroup2, SSL Initiation enabled (www.somedomain.com)
    Default L7 Load Balancing action : Sticky, Group: StickyGroup1
    So normally we would expect users to first hit www.somedomain.com first and therefore Farm1, get cookieXYZ from the ACE (cookie insert is only enabled on StickyGroup1) and then be redirected to www.somedomain.com/AuthenticateMe which matches the inline URL L7 rule which directs the request at Farm2 - at this point we expected the ACE to use cookieXYZ to persist the user to the same real server hit in Farm1 but instead the stickiness doesn't seem to work.
    We suspect that the ACE uses IP:port as the unique value in the Cookie ID and therefore the ACE fails to match the same real host in a different farm because we are using a mix of port numbers across farms. Is this correct? Is there another way of accomplishing what we are after with a different configuration but still the same setup with single VIP and multiple services on the backend servers?
    Any suggestions or solutions appreciated.
    Thanks
    Paul

    The issue is related to the fact that it's not about persistence because there are only "new" services in the backend in SSL, you want to keep the IP address.
    With a little bit of dev, the only way to acheive this is to redirect the user when he has been sent to http and adding a "tag" (cookie / token in the URL), then on the SSL virtual server, when performing SSL offload matching this tag to send to user to the right server. But it will be a 1-to-1 mapping.

  • PE12 on two computers, license issue

    Hello,
    I used a trial version of PSE12 on my home computer, which is a Mac.  I decided to purchase it after the trial, downloaded it from the website, and it's all set up.  I decided to put it on my computer at work, which is a PC running Windows 7.  I downloaded the trial version, but when I try to license it, it says the number is invalid.  I know the license can be used on two different computers, but is there an issue because it's on two different platforms?  Or do I need to sign out of PSE12 at home before attempting to license it at work?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Lisa

    If you have a phone number for customer service, that might be better.  You could also try chat again.  Maybe a different person will respond and will be more helpful.

    I am currently working on a system that has a not so good architecture (in my opinion) and I am trying to find arguments to convince the others that my way is better (or convince myself that my way is not so good :)).
    the big questions is like this: in case we have two DBs, one is used by an OLTP system and the other one is used by a batch processing system with huge amount of data and with full table scans, the first one does not need any data from the second but the second needs almost all data from the first (FTS), should we have these two system on the same DB or we should separate this on separate DBs. so the huge FTS will not interact with the OLTS system, it will extract the needed data through db links and than work by itself? (here I think I may be wrong. any FTS done from the batch DB to the OLTP DB, will first load the blocks in the OLTP buffer cache than move the data over DB links, and put the data in batch DBs buffer cache. correct?)
    Current situation:
    We have two databases: CUST (customers) and RATE (calls).
    - CUST has contracts table, their details, addresses, a lot of configuration tales (ref... system_settings), payments. There are around 200 k customers with their related details and the configuration tables have around 200 rows.
    - RATE DB has the CALLS table that has around 100 000 mil records
    The DBs communicate with each other using DB links and they are on the same machine
    - On CUST DB we have a OLTP system like (this is not using any data from RATE): contracts creations, payments..etc.
    - On RATE db we have the RATING module that is running continuously using big amounts of data. the RATE DB needs almost all tables from CUST: full table scans over DB link.
    This is a telephony billing system.
    This architecture was done way back and the idea was to have multiple CUST DBs and for each CUST to have a RATE DB. we did not reach to the point to have multiple CUST DBs and I believe that now we have other ways to scale: RAC.
    Would not be a better idea to group these two so we will not have issues with DB links waits, with CBO statistics over DB links, with exec plans over DB links with the fact the some data(the entire CUST DB) is used for both DBs.
    I believe that the FTS on CUST tables done by RATE process will not be such a big issue, because the buffers are already in buffer cache because of the OLTP actions. But what about the FTS on the huge CALLS table?. Will this interfere with the rest of the system; it will be a good idea to put the huge table in different caches?
    What do you think?

    I am not quite sure that I understand how a full table scan works over a db link. let’s say I go to RATE and I issue a FTS on a table from CUST DB
    are those blocks put in memory on RATE or on CUST and RATE or just in CUST. I thought that they are only put in RATE and the buffer cache for CUST is not affected at all. I think I am wrong and the CUST buffer is affected. So you are right, the CUST is already affected by this and grouping the DBs will help in this case because we will not duplicate that table in two memories. We will use some data from buffer cache that is already used by OLTP system. Correct?A single large cache is better than multiple smaller caches. It scales and performs better.
    If for example, a FTS was "bad" for other sessions, then why does Oracle not implement a buffer cache per session? Or why does the kernel not implement a file system buffer cache per process?
    How many SQL shared pool caches does an Oracle instance use? One for all sessions.
    I have yet to see server s/w designed to create a small private or dedicate cache per client - as this does not scale. Also, clients often deal with the same data and can benefit by using each other caches. For that basic reason, servers implements a single cache for all clients.
    If someone says that this does not suffice and there can be conflict of some kind - then in my mind, that needs to be proven beyond any shadow of a doubt.
    And at the same time, reasons must also be supplied that if 2 instances are required due to potential buffer cache conflict, why 2 servers are also not needed to address CPU conflict, memory conflict, conflict for server resources such as mutexes and semaphores and so on.
    Why would the conflict (if it exists), be limited to only the buffer cache?
    Merging these two DBs means that I need to increase memory structures.In what way? It means fewer memory structures. It means a single shared pool. Single buffer cache. Single library pool.
    Multiple instances mean duplicating these (fairly sophisticated) memory structures - and as there are now more of these, it means using smaller structures. And a smaller buffer cache for example, is less capable than a larger one. Multiple ones mean more overheads are required to manage access to the memory structure (e.g. semaphores and mutexes).
    in the past I remember that I had issues with OLTP system in case of to much memory. Do you see an issue here?Only if there are conflicts in the Oracle instance configuration settings. The buffer cache does not care if the SQL is OLAP or OLTP. It serves as a buffer to the physical data on disk.
    I'm not saying that beyond a shadow of a doubt, you should be using a single instance.
    I'm saying that a single instance is the norm and is what makes technical sense ito server performance and scalability. And that if 2 instances are to be used, then there must be sound and factual reasons for that exception.

  • Two tone gamma issue

    Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here it goes.
    Lately I've been having this issue where the frame, or top of certain app windows will have this weird two tone thing. For example - http://cld.ly/83ppa , http://cld.ly/33ppb , and http://cld.ly/3bppc.
    I tried reinstalling OS X to no avail. This is really frustrating, and quite annoying.
    Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    You'll have to look closely.
    On the first picture (Safari) - Right underneath the search bar the window turns into a lighter grey.
    On the second picture (Notify) - The Gmail tab doesn't match the window underneath it.
    On the third picture (iChat) - The middle section doesn't match the top or the bottom.
