  • Can't Change Mercury Playback Engine

Everytime I try to change the Mercury Playback Engine from "Software Only" to "GPU Acceleration", I can't. The section to change the Mercury Playback Engine, appears to be grey, like everyone else has been saying.
I have read and searched around the Adobe Forums, but I can't seem to find an answer.
I just got the PNY Nvidia Quadro 2000D. I know it works with Premiere Pro CS5.5, because it's listed on the site --> http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html.
I've tried everything I could of think of:
    - Uninstalled Adobe CS5.5 then Reinstalled Adobe CS5.5
    - Setected Maximum Bit Depth & Maximum Render Quality (From Sequence Settings)
    So My Question Is:
How do I fix this problem?

I DID have the option to choose GPU before I had any Graphics Card, in my computer.
    Again, impossible.
For one, you cannot operate your computer without a GPU, so saying you previously had none makes no sense. How did you operate the computer before adding this card?
For another, the only way you can select GPU accelerated rendering in Premiere Pro is if you have an Nvidia GPU with CUDA and a minimum amount of RAM; that either means you have an officially supported GPU or you hacked the necessary file to activate the GPU. The only other possible explanation is that you somehow stumbled upon a bug that made this option available. I don't recall that ever being reported before, so you'd be the first that I'd be aware of.
My theory: you had another GPU that was hardware Mercury Playback Engine capable, and replaced it. The original drivers were not uninstalled, and the drivers for the new card were, but there's a conflict. This is just a guess, as you're not providing enough information. If you don't want to, fine--that's your choice. No one will be able to help you without such information, however.
    Anyway, good luck to you.

  • PCs not seeing Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)

We have 6 new HP HP Z840 running Nvidia K5200 but neither Prem Pro or AE 2014.2 are seeing the cards for cuda playback. We have installed the latest Nvidia drivers from HP support site. Any help would be appreciated. I tried editing the supported ray trace text file but the card was still not seen

What Nvidia driver version is installed?
Actually just ran into this with a client and a 670GTX card. For some reason the latest update in Premiere is not recognizing the Nvidia driver version/ GPU as acceleration enabled without the Cudatextfiles in the Premiere and AME folders. I had to copy them after updating to the latest Nvidia driver from the Creative Cloud version folder into the Creative Cloud 2014 folders for Premiere and AME. Something did not get compiled from the previous update right when they released this update since Adobe removed the  cudatextfiles themselves a few updates ago. The Quadro K5200 wont be on the text files copied from CC so you will have to add them to those. Adobe needs to look at this last update.

  • Will Quadro 1000N card work with Mercury Playback Engine?

The NVIDIA Quadro 1000M graphics card isn't listed as a recommended graphics card for running Premiere Pro CC 2014. Does anyone know if it will work with MPE?

Not what I would recommend at all. There are far to many laptop solutions out there with Geforce 800 series chips and 900 series mobile are coming very soon.

  • PP CS6 doesn't recognize my Quadro FX 4800 for Mac graphics card but my trial PP CC does. When I open CS6 the Mercury Playback engine is grayed out. In PP CC the Mercury Playback engine is not Grayed out. I have the latest Nvidia driver & Cuda driver. Do

I installed PP CS6 on a Mac OS 10.10.2, installed latest drivers for Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 graphic card including Cuda driver. The Mercury Playback Engine is grayed out. But when I open an installed trial version of PP CC the Mercury Playback engine is not grayed out. Do I have a problem with CS6 software?? Thanks for any input you can offer.

If your nVidia card has at least 1Gig of video ram, use the nVidia Hack http://forums.adobe.com/thread/629557 - which is a simple entry in a "supported cards" file - and Mac http://www.vidmuze.com/how-to-enable-gpu-cuda-in-adobe-cs6-for-mac/

  • Mercury Playback Engine not working on PrPro CC 2014

Hello everyone. My Asus J750JS (NVIDIA 870M) modified with a Samsung 1T SSD for Footage and a original 240GB SSD for C: and F: (chache) my Adobe CC remove all the .TXT with CUDA CARDS SUPPORTED file!!!! and i am using CPU only!! even when the Mercury Playback Engine its on!!! please help!!!
You can see that the Warp Stabilizer (CUDA effect) with the Mercury Playback Engine activated give me red line!! i am working on a important project and i need a fast solution PLEASE!!

....in addition to the advice I gave on your other post....as great as our Asus gaming laptops are...they are STILL TWICE AS SLOW AS A POWERFUL DESKTOP SYSTEM running PPro !!!   My new G750JW compares in performance with some of the BEST DESKTOPS.....but, from THREE YEARS AGO !!!!!
There is only SO MUCH you can do with a laptop.....much of the professional software today takes advantage of the greater power of current desktop systems and will not run at its best on a less powerful laptop. Now that you have dramatically improved your drive system by getting rid of the 5400rpm HDD and installing the Samsung SSD , ( hopefully, the 850 pro model and NOT the EVO), you STILL need to max out your system memory to 32GB from 16., With warp stabilizer, a desktop system with a 6 or 8 core CPU running at over 4Ghz would behave MUCH differently !!! I do NOT know if more memory would help with warp stabilizer.....I know it DOES help with other operations I have used on PPro !! Take the test at the  PPBM7 website to see the performance of your machine and identify any potential problem.

  • Does Mercury Playback Engine work on a Mac with Quadro 4800 ?

Has anyone successfully run Premiere CS5 Mercury Playback Engine in Hardware acceleration mode, I only get Software mode? The option to change the mode is grayed out for me, but I have the adobe cuda qualify video card.  I'm running a 8 Core Mac Pro 3.2Ghz 16GB ram 10 Disk Striped Raid with Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 and Mac OSX 10.6.3. All the demos I have seen are running on Windows 7 Boxes.

YES - nvidia 4800 + MAC = good Mercury editing experience.
The problem is that you need to download the CUDA 3.0 drivers which they haven't published as 'official' yet.  Adobe is pushing them to move them over as the drivers seem completely finished.  You can get them here - http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda_3_0_downloads.html
One other note - I found that my trusty firewire 800 g-raid mini's don't work as well as I'd like for playback in a Mac tower.  Basically, MPE is asking for more than the drive can actually handle.  I put in two other drives in a software raid and my problems went away.
    Hope this helps,
    Dennis

  • How can I open a project that has been created with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software, on my trial version of Premier Pro CC?

    Hi,
I'm working with a colleague who is using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software on his PC version of Premier Pro CC. I am using a mac and have a trial version of Premier Pro CC. When I try to open a project file that he has sent me I get an error message-
"Missing renderer: This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), which is either not available or not certified on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used."
When I click OK and locate the files I get a message saying "File format not supported".
Can anyone tell me what to do so that we can share project files?
    Many thanks,
    Jessie

Shouldn't really be the MPE at fault here ... what is the codec of the footage/sequence/project?
Second, can you create a new project in PrPro, then in the media browser, import that sequence from the other project?

  • I wish to know whether the new NVidia Quadro K2200 graphic card is compatible with the Mercury Playback Engine.  Thanks

Hi.  I wish to know whether the new NVidia Quadro K2200 and K4200 are compatible with the Mercury Playback Engine in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  My old graphic card NVidia Quadro FX580 is not listed and not effective apparently because Mercury Playback Engine is effective as from 1Gb RAM. I use a HP workstation and AVCHD (AVCCAM) and DSLR full HD.  Thanks.

It is compatible, but why anyone would want such a weak and slow card at a premium price is beyond me. See Tweakers Page - What video card to use? and GeForce GTX980 vs Quadro k4200 (2200) #2.

  • Mercury Playback Engine not available on Macbook Pro Retina 15"

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 15" with 16gb of RAM and a 500GB SSD, and am trying to enable Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Open CL) on a legitimate copy of Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  For some reason the selection for that option is shaded and stuck on Software Only.  I have tried installing and enabling the nVIDIA CUDA driver but nothing has changed.  How can I fix this? Thanks.

Looking at this, it doesn't seem that the Retina MacBook Pro's NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M is on the list. And the NVIDIA CUDA driver will give you nothing but heartache (a frequent source of kernel panics).
You might want to take your question to the Adobe Premiere discussion boad to see if there are any current 'workarounds' -> http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere.

  • Mercury Playback Engine GPU not available

I've been reading through forum postings and have not found a solution, so I apologize if there is a solution posted elsewhere.
I have a 27" iMac (late 2012) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX graphics card running Mac OS 10.8.5.
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.0.3, and when I updated my OS to 10.9 Maverick, I began to experience several problems, including:
The dreaded spinning beachball and "Premiere not responding."
"This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA) which is not available on your system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used.
Video files - I think they were all .MOV - became "squished" to the top of the Program Monitor (movie only took up about 1/3 of program monitor window).
After a long chat with Adobe Support, he indicated that the update to 10.9 Maverick was the problem, so I:
Updated to Premiere 6.0.5, but that did not fix any of the issues.
Logged in as "Root," which worked for a while but I also received 3 "Premiere encountered problem and must shut down."
Deleted preferences, repaired permissions, basic troubleshooting practices, etc, but problems persisted.
    No help.
Eventually I restored my computer from a Time Machine backup to a day prior to the OS 10.9 update, and this seemed to fix all the issues. So I was back to Mac 10.8.5 and Premiere 6.0.3.
But the .MOV-compressed-in-the-program-monitor problem began to surface again (see  photo below).
So I updated to Premiere to 6.0.5 (but not my OS - it's still 10.8.5), and the "Mercury Playback Engine" error is back.
And the .MOV files are still compressed in the Program Monitor. I have a project that I completed in 6.0.3, but is now messed up in 6.0.5.
Help please. Is the only solution downgrading to Premiere 6.0.3, and if so, must I do a clean install of the program from the DVD?

Thanks so much for your quick responses.
@Kevin, the strange thing is this: Express purchased this iMac and the Adobe Creative Suite back in January of this year, and the computer and software have worked flawlessly since that time.
It was only after upgrading, first to Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks (which I later downgraded back to 10.8.5), and then to Premiere 6.0.5, that I began experiencing problems.
Prior to these upgrades, I never received the "Missing Renderer" message, nor did I experience any lagging problems or problems relating to .MOVs in the Program Viewer.
    Hi Randy,
I'm sorry. I really don't know the answer to your question, or how that happened. All I know is that the card is not supported for CS6. I guess we have a mystery on our hands.
    harris1966 wrote:
Any insight on why I never experienced problems until upgrading software?
Sorry, it is behaving as if your text file was hacked prior to you receiving the computer. After you updated the OS, a new text file without your card was created. Your card would not be listed in that file because it is not supported.
    harris1966 wrote:
Are you saying that PP doesn't support NVIDIA 680 MX cards "now that the software is at 6.05"? Or PP doesn't support that card at all, under any software version?
The card is supported for Premiere Pro CC, but not prior to that.

Again, thanks so much for your help.

  • Mercury Playback Engine does not work in new PP 2014 release?

Hi everyone, I've just downloaded the new 2014 version of PP to get the following message whilst uploading a project I've been working on:
'This project was last used with mercury playback engine GPU acceleration (cuda), which is either not available or not certified on this system. Mercury playback engine software only will be used'.
So, I make a trip to the playback settings in the preferences and there is just no option to switch on mercury playback. I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 and up until now I've never had to render a single thing on my system no matter how many effects I've had to apply (working with raw DSLR footage). Now I'm getting dropped frames and red lines all over my sequence? Is there a way to remedy this in the new version of PP? If not I'll be uninstalling it and sticking to the older release.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Kevin

My bad, I was looking in the wrong place. I've now changed it to GPU acceleration and it's working fine!

  • Mercury Playback GPU acceleration in CS5.5 not available, Mercury Playback Software only available

Getting a warning screen each time I open an existing project in PP CS5.5 that says GPU acceleration is not available on my system...when it has always in the past. Editing on a HP Z400 with the NVidia Quadro 2000. I can't figure out how to get GPU acceleration going again. The software only option makes for a painfully slow and clunky edit. Any ideas are gladly welcomed. Hot and heavy deadlines looming...you all know the drill. The warning window I get reads "This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration, which is not available on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used." And there is only an "okay" button to close the window. Also when I try to start a new project GPU Acceleration option is not accessible...defaults to the software setting and it's grayed out.

    Hi Joe,
Have you updated your video drivers lately? Any OS updates?
