Quadro K2000 Mercury Hardware Acclerated Encoding

Hello,
I have got a question about hardware acclerated encoding with a Nvidia Quadro K2000.
We have got a video clip that we want to encode in 720p H264. Graphics card was recognized by Premiere, Premiere itself switched to the correct Hardware acclerated encoder.
However, it isn't working, video isn't encoding unless I select Fully Software as the encoder. Driver is brand new downloaded from Nvidia website.
There is no error message, it just goes to the progress bar screen and after that: big nothing, no progress at all, no file gets written to disk.
Any ideas? Are there special drivers neeeded? Is the Card unsupported despite it is listed as a supported one?

Agree with cc_merchant.  16GB RAM is the current minimum for glitch free editing, as the software will normally consume 8-12GB while active.  Minimal disk spec should be one system disk, and if possible, a 2-disk raid running on a separate buss for project/video files.   If you go the raid route and use a raid card, be sure the card is placed on the PCI slot with the fastest lane, and not to interfere with other cards.  Another reason for using a raid card is that it frees up one buss on the mobo so you can add a 3rd hard drive for scratch/media files.   Never fill the drives past the 50% mark to avoid issues with performance due to fragmentation, etc.  Move completed projects off onto a external drive for storage, and only use that external drive for the transfer, disconnecting when not in use to free up resourced during edits.
The magic bullet or holy grail of a good editing system is the careful memory management and routing of data on the system buss.  Avoiding conflict, collisions and latency.  I've been doing the above configurations since 1999, owning several systems, all Dell Precisions.

  • Nvida Quadro K2000 and Telsa K20

I have a system with a Nvida Quadro K2000 and Tesla K20. After Effects, Premier and Speedgrade do not indicate that this is an acceptable GPU yet the website claims it is?  How do I configure the software?

    cuda_supported_cards.txt
You will likely have to go into the Nvidia control panel and set the Cuda GPU to the K20. You will want to set it up on global and then under the programs option for Premiere and Adobe Media Encoder. I have seen a bug lately where the Nvidia control panel resorts back to the Primary video card under each program listing even when you set the global option in the Nvidia control panel.

  • Premiere won't use my Quadro K2000

why won't premiere use my Quadro K2000?

I just experienced this same issue today after replacing my Quadro 2000 with a Quadro K2000. I found a text file in Program Files/Adobe/Abode Premier Pro CS5.5 called cuda_supported_cards.txt. I bought CS5.5 quite a while ago (before the K cards came out), so they aren't on the list in this file. I added Quadro K2000 to the list, saved the file, restarted PrPro and I now have Mercury Playback GPU Acceleration with the K2000.

  • Bought a Quadro K2000 Video Card, After Effects CC Won't detect it?

I recently bought a Quadro K2000 for some simple 1080p video editing and rendering. Now there comes the problem, It seems like After Effects is not detecting the card, CUDA is enabled and the card is supported in the list. I have tried many solutions but unfortunately I still have this problem. Also with rendering a video my CPU still takes all the load instead of the GPU, therefore it goes really slow, 5 minute render takes up to 2+ hours. I bought this video card so my render also got quicker but it seems like After Effects just won't use the GPU for rendering. I have Ray tracing 3D rendering on.
Can someone please explain to me why my Quadro K2000 is not used for rendering the videos but instead it still uses my CPU. I hope the $500 was no waste of money for this card.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sjoerd

You have given us little information to go by. What exact version of After Effects? What operating system. Show a screenshot of your GPU Information dialog box in After Effects.
The Quadro K2000 was added to the list of cards tested and supported for use by the ray-traced 3D renderer in this version:

  • Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered. bsod if I use mercury hardware acceleration

Hi, I bought a cheap NVIDIA card to go alongside my GTX285 to allow me to use a third monitor for timeline playback. I've done this before with an ati card with no issues but needed to change to a single height card to get the extra slot back.
It installed it's drivers and then whenever I opened premiere CS6 it would immediately hang and blue screen. I removed the card and rolled back to old drivers but no change. NVIDIA support gave me beta drivers but no change either. They suggested that my card or motherboard was faulty. (Motherboard is a EVGA Sr2) Eventually I found I can edit normally if I turn off hardware acceleration for the mercury playback engine and leave it as software only. Not much use when my GPU supports CUDA.
Even now the display driver keeps giving me the "stopped responding" message with or without premiere open so I'm thinking there is some hardware issue somewhere. The Blue screen only occurs when I use mercury hardware acceleration.
    I have ordered a GTX470 because I can't afford to spend hundreds on a 690 etc.
The current driver version is 306.97, error occurs in CS5 and CS6
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael.

The reason the ATI card worked was because that is completely 2 separate drivers. That makes it easier for the OS to sort out the device ID's although that can cause issues with some applications and the ram shadowing done by Win 7 compositing mode. However when you use 2 Nvidia GPU's, the drivers are essentially the same as far as what the OS see's but they have completely different support for things like Direct X. This often can cause major issues with drawing out on the screen. The other issue is the 2 cards may not have resource charts that are far enough apart to avoid resource issues. If you cant return the 470 card then you may want to try a 1GB 620 card for the 2nd video card and see if that will work. That will minimize the resource shadowing and hopefully run the 600 series card in the Direct X version the 400 series card will run.

  • Nvidia (Quadro K2000) Driver isn't installed during OSD (Task Sequence succeeded) - HP Z620

    Hi everyone,
I have added a driverset (HP Z620) in SCCM for the first time using our internal procedure (Importing Drivers to SCCM, Create Driver package with specific category, apply driver package in TS using WMI to query for the model).
The Task Sequence succeeded, but the NVIDIA K2000 Graphics driver isn't installed (only HD Graphics 4000 driver).
Looking at the drivers in the Driver Package, this should normally apply since the driver is compatible with this specific GPU.
At the forums, I can see that some people have created a seperate package for the GPU driver installation using command line switches.. But looking at the environment at the customer, we have never done this and in the past, we have succesfully installed
the driver for this GPU before.
PS: The driver for the GPU in my new driver package (HP Z620) isn't the same as for previous models (HP Z220, Z230, Z600).
Could you please advise me what to do? Should I have added something in the driver sources before importing the driver to SCCM?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards

    Hi
I m installing Nvidia (Quadro K2000) Driver during OSD (Task Sequence succeeded) - HP Z420
Remove the Graphics driver for NVIDIA from the current driver database
Added below task in the existing task sequence as invidual installation based on the Condition (WMI query)
    Command Line
    HP_Z420_Graphics_x64\Win64_332_50\setup.exe -s -k -clean -noeula
This will install the desired driver and related configurable components
    WMI Query
select * from win32_ComputerSystem where manufacturer like '%hewlett%' and model like '%z420%'
Currently I m looking out for the Errors codes needed to add to this task . Success codes 3010 and 0 already added

  • Quadro K2000 vs Geforce GTX 680 for AE CS6

    Hi,
I want to buy one of these two cards for using with After Effects CS6. The price point of these two are about the same, although the GTX is a bit cheaper. The specs of the GTX 680 on the other hand are much more appealing then the Quadro K2000.
Especially for the Ray-Traced Renderer the 1536 CUDA Cores vs 384 CUDA Cores seems much better.
The only donwside I could find is, that the GTX uses about 4 times the power of the Quadro and is going to be louder. Also the driver for the Quadro is working more stable than the Geforce driver.
Am I missing anything here or would be the GTX be the better choice?
    Kind regards
    Christian

    Christian,
The main performance determining factor for a video card is the memory bandwidth, not the amount of memory. Memory bandwidth is more important than number of cores too.
See a limited performance comparison here: Video Card Performance and scroll down a bit till you see the relevant graph.
Interpolating, one would expect the performance of the K2000 to be between the GTX 550 Ti and the GT 640,  possibly with a score around 120-130 seconds, around 4 times slower than a GTX 680.

  • I installed a NVIDIA QUADRO K2000 card and downloaded the most current drivers. AE does not accept

Can anyone offer a solution for this? I installed a NVIDIA QUADRO K2000 graphics card. I downloaded the latest drivers for the card. AE reports that this GPU is incompatible.  This is one of recommended listed cards for CS6. Any suggestions?

    > This is one of recommended listed cards for CS6.
Where did you get that information? That card is not on this list:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/tech-specs.html
What is the exact message that you're referring to when you say that After Effects "reports that this GPU is incompatible"? Is it just saying that it won't use this GPU for the CUDA acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer? If so, the only thing that you'd be missing is GPU acceleration of one feature.
See this page for details of how the GPU is used in After Effects:

  • Mercury Hardware Acceleration disappears when upgrading from CS6 to CC.

I have an iMac (27-inch Mid 2011 AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB) with 16gb of memory.
I upgraded Premiere from CS6 to CC. I had mercury hardware acceleration support on CS6. The acceleration option has disappeared following my upgrade to CC.
Have tried this on two machines now.
Can anyone help? Am I missing the obvious?
    Ian.
PS. I first posted this in the CC forum. And was, quite rightly, told to post it here…. :-)

They actually didn't raise it.  It's always required 1GB.

It seems an error of sorts that it worked with less on Macs.  That's been 'corrected'.

  • Hardware MPEG2 Encoder

According to Apple and Google, there is NO Hardware MPEG2 encoder available for Apple's Quad G5. I am on the hunt for a solid MPEG2 encoder after countless Compressor letdowns both in performance and actually getting the program to work.
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/dvdstudiopro/partners.html
Optibase, among others, have not yet adopted the PCI Express compatibility which has painted us in a corner to deal with the software encoding process that takes hours. Yes, HOURS. I'm not talking about 2-3 hours for a 20 minute video. I'm talking about 10, 15, 20 hours for Compressor to make the MPEG2 and AIF, and once it does, the quality is good, not great.
Please someone at Apple or one of these third party companies (Optibase, Wired) throw a pizza party for the engineering staff and let's get the ball rolling on a PCI Express techology that we can use before the PowerIntel MacPro G6 comes out.
(Or at least make Compressor utilize all four chips in the Quad)
    Thanks,
    Dan
    Quad G5, 8GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I use an SD-2000 on Windows. The Creator encoder is still part of a OS9 G4 system but they're not not updating it. They've (Sonic) flat out stopped developing Creator/Fusion. We also have a Wired Inc. board which I've not sorted out yet. The windows CCE SP (software) option is a very good app but hardware is hardware. Two or three copies, Procoder and some PCs still works out a lot cheaper than some hardware encoders though...
I'd say it's aways good to have options cause there are lots of times where the SD-2000 doesn't cut it and I encode with something else...

  • Mercury hardware acceleration crashes Media Encoder

My old NVidia with CUDA worked well with Mercury acceleration, but   I recently upgraded  my graphics card to AMD  Radeon R9 200 Series to coincide with the latest Creative Cloud suite.  I tried revising the clock speed down to 1000 MHz, I believe.

    Hi ND Frizzle,
I have heard of another customer having trouble with this GPU. Let me see if I can find that so that we can find any common issues.

  • Hardware h264 Encode Acceleration - is it or will it be supported?

With the demise of MS Expression Encoder 4 Pro our CDN is recommending we look into FMLE
EE4Pro supported both CUDA and Intel QSV encode accleration of live h264 streams (MainConcept SDK) and it was nice not worrying about raw CPU performance
Does FMLE utillize CUDA and/or QSV for encoding?
Or is there a 'Pro' equivilent version of FMLE which supports hw accelerated encoding?
    If not, is it planned?
I can't find any references to HW encode accleration for FMLE anywhere and I am concerned our hardware will not be sufficient without it.
    Thanks

Supported video card info is here:

From what I understand, the App Store will not allow you to download FCPX if your system cannot run it.

  • Premiere Pro CS5 Mercury hardware compatibility!

    Hi everybody,
I intend on purchasing Production Premium and I would like to know if this graphics card will be able to enable the hardware support on the mercury playback engine ( note that i'm not doing 2k 4k work just HD, and not a lot of video tracks 1-6 max).
The graphics card in question is this http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=197.
    Thank you for your help,
    RObinetus

    Welcome to the forum.
There are current lists of fully-supported graphics cards here, and in the Hardware sub-forum. The easiest way to tell is to look at those lists.
Also note: nVidia and Adobe are working on other cards too, so checking for updates to the lists would be a good tack.
    Good luck,

  • AMD Radeon HD 6750M Premiere Pro CC2014.2 crashes and no hardware accleration 2011 MBP

I have a fresh install of 10.9.5 and Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 Everytime I move a video into my workspace it crashes. Log shows [CL_INVALID_OPERATION] : OpenCL Error : Failed to retrieve device information! Invalid enumerated value! For video and rendering playback options, the software option is the only choice. 512GB VRAM on AMD and Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB. This is a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro.

    Hi Jason,
Sorry you're having a tough time.
For video and rendering playback options, the software option is the only choice. 512GB VRAM on AMD and Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB. This is a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro.
Right. You need 768 MB VRAM for hardware acceleration for the Mercury Playback Engine. In speaking with engineering and researching past posts, your GPU is underpowered and you will probably continue to experience performance issues and unexpected behavior with current versions of Premiere Pro.
It is recommended to roll back to Premiere Pro CC.1 (7.1) and to avoid certain effects listed in this post: Performance crippled by 7.2 update - GPU Acceleration. See the recommendations from QE engineer, Peter Garaway.
It might be time to begin looking at updating your hardware in order to take full advantage of your Creative Cloud subscription. We have an outstanding hardware forum should you need advice on upgrading your computer.
