Qualified Host Name & Static IP Solaris 10

I have IP service via Comcast. I don't have a registered domain name so I am having similar issues with unqualified host name. So that I understand it, the, "host" is the machine (NIC address hprb0) that one is using? Or is the 'host" the machine providing the gateway, like Sun.com?
=======================================================================================
you get your informations via dhcp. provide a static ip and a hostname in /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname.nicname files and you are done.
btw. which solaris 10 version do you use? (cat /etc/release)
greets,
DN2
======================================================================================
DN2, could you please provide a protype text entry into both files. Also I have I have my initial setup using DHCP so when I put in a static IP (prefered) how do I disable a DHCP request for an IP address? I
EA

In past installs onto my home desktop box, I set a static IP during the Solaris installation process. I always pick an IP that is somewhere in the upper range that my home router uses for its DHCP range. There will never be that many systems requesting an IP from that router so I'll not ever chance an IP conflict.
For example, if the router's DHCP range is going to be 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.50, I would make the Solaris system 192.168.1.45
I then accomplish the hostname qualification by placing a tab-separated naming in the NIC file.
For example your hostname.hpbr0 file will have
machinename      machinename.comThe dot-com syntax in there accomplishes the qualification.
It just works.

  • Full qualified host name not appearing in url within WSDL generated from PI

    Hi
We are on PI711  ( AIX OS ) and are stuck with an issue of the fully qualifed hostname not appearing within WSDL file  generated in PI71 for a webservice it exposes using the Integration builder
We changed the host name in exchange profile ( all locations ) from hostname to hostname.companyname.intra and also in the ABAP stack as recommended in all OSS notes.
We use the Integration Directory --> Sender Agreement --> Display WSDL option to generate the WSDL.
Its to be noted that all locations ( including url for WSDL ) have the fully qualified hostname except the url within the WSDL.
Dioes anyone come across this issue/ know which parameters to be updated on the PI server to make the url within the WSDL for the PI webservice to have the fully qualified host name ?

    HI Karthik,
As Mentioned by Baskar donu2019t use proposed URL .. while creating WSDL in Id.. but instead provide URL in following format and use it in that place and create WSDL.. details about URL format..
the URL format is fix. and it is simple.
    http://host:HTTPPort/XISOAPAdapter/MessagingServlet?channel=party:sendersystem:CC_sender
in above URL provide your sender service component name instead of sender system.
and provide SOAP sender communication channel name in place of CC_sender
provide your PI system host and http name in place of host and https and use this..
    for more details about URL..
Propose URL when Configuring Sender SOAP Adpater

  • How to change Port Information shown in sicf in fully qualified host name?

    Hi guys,
I want to use the CS Documentation Tool for SAP BW.
In DEV everything is OK, but in PROD I can´t execute.
I know what´s wrong, but I don´t know where to correct the error.
When I use transaction sicf -> execute -> GoTo -> Port Information I can only see the server name instead of the  fully qualified host name.
Can anybody tell me, where to change the name?
    Thanks a lot,
    Barbara

Those ports are defined in the instance profile of the system and can be defined/changed from RZ10. The parameter is icm/server_port_xx. If the parameter is not defined then it uses the default values.
The profile values looks something like this:
    icm/server_port_0 PROT=HTTP,PORT=80$$,TIMEOUT=90,PROCTIMEOUT=3600
    icm/server_port_1 PROT=SMTP,PORT=25$$,TIMEOUT=90,PROCTIMEOUT=3600
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Naveed

  • How to change the fully qualified host name

    Hi,
how can I change the fully qualiied host name?
    Regards
    Marc

    Hi Michal,
I'm doing the FlightSeatAvailabilityCheck-Scenarion of the demo example and get an error. To get more details about the error I had a look in the XI Runtime Workbench. There I can see, that the wrong url is called (without the hostname) and  that the access is forbidden (403). Therefore I want to change the fully qualified host name. I knew that I have to change icm/host_name_full but I don't know where I can do it (which transaction)?

  • Fully Qualified Host Name

We Have installed Oracle 10g AS and Later Configure it by Changing the Canonical setting to "Off" from Status "On" in the httpd.conf file in apache Directory. so that we can access our application by ip address in place of host name.
After that whenever i tried to to log on to the single sign on it gives error "SSO Failure ........." However it shows in the address bar that the sing on was successfull but the URL same as that fully qualified host name.
now if i change the Host name to the IP everything goes on well
Could anyone please help me to Resolve the issue
    Thanks in Advance

Later Configure it by Changing the Canonical setting to "Off" from Status "On" in the httpd.conf file in apache Directory. so that we can access our application by ip address in place of host name.Oracle's AS and related software is heavily dependant on the FQDN (fully-qualified domain name, or how you seem to be referring to the "host name") and how the browser refers to the AS in many places: not just SSO, but Portal, the IAS-Console, and many pieces-parts that support them. I would seriously suggest considering alternatives to trying to refer to the AS by its IP address, especially because the IP address is allowed to change, but oftentimes the hostname is not! That can only become confusing if the IP-address of the machine ever changes. :( I am also very confident that you will have serious issues allowing users outside of your system to use the Oracle Reports that you are developing.
If you are simply developing a J2EE application that refers users to the Oracle Reports servlet, I would highly recommend finding a solution which uses the FQDN of the system rather than its IP address.

  • Fully-Qualified Host Name empty in SMSY

    Hello,
I am facing a problem in the SMSY of Solution Manager.
I've got some servers listed in the "servers" tree of the landscape components. Fine. But for all of them, the field Fully-Qualified Host Name is empty.
I need this entry for generating RFC with full host name....
If I put the full host name manually in this field, the RFC are right generated with the full host name in the technical data. But I would like to know how to retrieve it automatically (from SLD I presume...).
    Anyone could help me ?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Fully Qualified Host Name for XI Repository etc?

    Hi  everybody!
How do I get XI 3.0 to generate a URL for the IB:Repository and Directory, for example, with a fully qualified host name, instead of just http://sap2:50000/...? I already implemented Note 773830, but it hasn't helped. Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot!
    Francis Wolf

That is the beauty of XI...
Put an entry in your laptop or desktop pc
    with the hostname and FQD...
    IP     hostname     FQD name
    Then it should show up...

  • Fully Qualified Host Name does not work

    Hello,
I've EP 7 with Usage Types AS Java, EPC, EP, BI Java, BP-ERP & XSS.
I am using fully qualified hostname by means of making entries in hosts file at OS level. I've also set icm/host_name_full parameter correctly.
Now when I enter URL as http://<fully qualified hostname>:<port>/irj/portal I am able to login to the system but after which if I try to navigate through any links under Employee Self-Service and Manager Self-Service for e.g. Employee Self-Service --> Benifits and Payment --> Request Claims, nothing happens. neither it throws any error nor does any page is displayed.
Same thing when I try without using fully qualified hostname like http://<hostname>:<port>/irj/portal it works absolutely fine.
I have done same settings as described above on my development as well as production system where it works absolutely fine with fully qualified hostname.
    Regards,
    Kashyap

    Hi
if you are using proxy try adding your domain name in your proxy exceptions list
Internet Options ->Connections ->Lan Settings->Proxy Server ->Advanced->Exceptions . try adding your host name to that list
    hope it will work.

  • FQHN (Fully qualified host name)

    Hi all,
I'm trying to use FQHN in my PI 7.0 installation. I'm not a basis guy but I have installed a successfull instance without using FQHN before, now I want to do this again using FQHN.
I need information on this topic; such as where to set the host name to a FQHN. Is there a guide on this? Any related links and help will be very much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Gökhan

    Hi again,
I have observed that my host name is used in these places:
    • etc/hosts file
    • Exchange Profile hostname parameters
    • SLDAPICUST transaction
    • RFC destinations like SAPSLDAPI, LCRSAPRFC etc
    • Visual Admin: SLD Data Supplier, Destinations -> PMISTORE, JCO RFC Provider
Also, there's an icm/host_name_full parameter in RZ10, which I have changed accordingly.
I have made up a FQHN for my server, which I configured from the computer name in the Windows settings. It has a form like myhost.mydomain.com and it is not on a domain. I have a basic local installation.
In SAPInst, I entered my host name as only , as it would not let me use the form myhost.mydomain.com. Afterwards, I have changed the name in the places I have listed above.
Is this enough for SAP standards for FQHN or have I missed any steps? I really need a guide on this.
    Thanks,
    Gökhan

  • Application host Fully Qualified Domain Name

    Hi,
This may not be the right area to post this thread but thought people might know here.
When I have deployed a Web Dynpro App from the IDE and run it, it tries to run the application at the path
    http://host:port/webdynpro....
rather than the fully qualified host name
    http://host.mycompany.com/port/wedbynpro....
I presume I can set this in the VA, but can't find where.
    Does anyone know?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I think this should be set in HTTP client or Security setting. I did it long back. So not able to confirm it. Please check and let me know,.

  • Multiple machines with the same host name

Has anyone tried it? Is it supported? We have this policy around here that all db servers are called db2 with different domain names. When I tested it, one host registered with GC properly although without domain name (ie db2 only), but agents on the remaining db2 hosts keep dying and never show up in GC. I'm gonna play with it some more, just wanted to ask if anyone has heard of such problem ...
    Thanks,
    Julius

Actually, if you see the emd.properties file in the $AGENT_HOME/sysman/config directory, you should be able to specify fully qualified host name (e.g. db2.domainname) in the agent url.
If the agent has secure communication setup with OMS, then you will have to re-secure the agent after changing agent url in emd.properties.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to set-up Fully Qualified Domain Name in WIN2k3?

    Dear Experts,
Admin, please rederict if this is the wrong forum.
I need to set up a FQDN for our one host demo system running on Windows Server 2k3. How do I set it up (without compromizing our system)? On this host we have ECC 6.0 and GRC running.
We don't have a registred domain.
    Kind Regards,
    Vit Vesely

    Hi,
Set your domain name as FQDN (fully qualified domain name.)
    1) start the transaction RZ10.
    2) select INSTANCE Profile name where your server name is given.
    3) Select Extended Maintenance.
    4) Click on change button.
    5) Change parameter icm/host_name_full to FQDN
    6) Copy your settings with new version number.
    7) Activate that version.
    8) Restart your WAS (Transaction code SMICM -> Administration Menu).
Check that the following services are active in your ICF setting (transaction code SICF)
    /default_host/sap/bc/bsp/sap
    /default_host/sap/bc/bsp/sap/system
    /default_host/sap/bc/bsp/sap/public/bc
    /def ault_host/sap/public/bc
    /default_host/sap/public/bc/ur
    /default_host/sap/public/bsp/sap/public
    /default_host/sap/public/bsp/sap/public/bc
    /defaul t_host/sap/public/bsp/sap/system
    /default_host/sap/public/bsp/sap/htmlb
Set Request Hanlder Class, add Standard Class provided by SAP to default\sap\bc\bsp\sap service. Right click on default\sap\bc\bsp\sap service service.
Now select display service, go to Handler Tag, and add the class CL_HTTP_EXT_BSP, which is a default HTTP request handler class.

  • /etc/hosts Private Host Name Fully Qualified Domain Name does it matter?

During installation of 11gR1 on Windows 2003 the examples in the installation guide show adding the Private IP and host name to /etc/hosts
However they only add the short name, racnode1, not Fully qualified Domain Name (FQDN), racnode1.mycompany.com
    e.g.
    10.0.0.1 racnode1
    10.0.0.2 racnode2
Later when installing the Clusterware it then expects to see the FQDN, racnode1.mycompany.com, of course you can modify this and remove the domain name and continue. OR go back and add the FQDN in /etc/hosts
    e.g.
    10.0.0.1 racnode1 racnode1.mycompany.com
    10.0.0.2 racnode2 racnode2.mycompany.com
What is the best practice? Currently my company is just dropping the FQDN from the name during the install, my instinct is instead to add the FQDN to the /etc/host in the first place.
Does anyone have a recommendation or experience with either situation?
Will (using/ or not using) the FQDN cause me issues in the future?

If it's a problem, the assistent will tell you :-)
    I don't think it's a problem.
Please mind that the first entry will be the name of the ip address, if it's not in DNS and a utility tries to get the name. (that's the reason 127.0.0.1 resolves to localhost.localdomain, it's the first entry in /etc/hosts)
