Quality. MAC friendly web source for sound effects?

I like to include sound effects in my iMovie sideshows -- I like the Skywalker sounds but want some different unique ones --any one have a good site for MAC friendly downloads? I have been to sites with movie audio clips but can never figure how to download (no right click mouse) i know I sound like newbie --help!

Couldn't live without Freeplay but it's mostly all music.

  • Sources for random effects to use with FCE

Any FCE users out there know of any good sources for random “effects” (not filters) and pre-made generic clips?
Coming from iMoive I'm really excited about the improved control I have with FCE but it doesn’t have some of the generic effects I’m looking for like the 3-2-1 screen at the beginning of a video or overlays where it looks like the film is burning on the light…etc. I need some cool yet affordable plug-ins.
    Any help is appreciated!

archive.org offers some downloadable count-downs ... in "historic" pic quality..
with some painting skills, you're able to create your own in a paint-app and animate it in FCE ...
search for video-libraries on the net, many offer (for $$) DVDs with zillions of usable "movies", fog, fire, water, animatics...
    lately, I stumbled here over
    http://fxhome.com/effectslab/effectslab-overview.html
which allows creation of nice "particle" effects (smoke, fog, fire, bursts, ...)
I'm too more a iM user.. like all these presets... in FCE, you have to think yourself, how is it done, how to set which knobs&sliders to achieve a special, wanted look... much more options, but much more complicated ..

  • Cannot select audio output in Yosemite for sound effects

iMac mid 2011 with thunderbolt display connected. After installing Yosemite 10.10 the sound effects such as sending a new e-mail or text message now come out of the thunderbolt display exclusively, and refuse to come out of my iMac internal speakers. Sound for iTunes, quicktime, web content etc is coming out of the proper iMac speakers, just not the sound effects. I used option-click on the audio icon to select "internal speakers" which moves around my iTunes sound nicely back and forth from my internal speakers to the display audio, but no matter what I select the sound effects still only come out of the thunderbolt display.

Oh. Found it. System Preferences / Sound / Sound Effects tab at the top. I had only tried changing the "output" settings, thinking all output was controlled with that setting. I changed the Sound Effects to use the "Selected sound output device" and now it works.

  • Mac Friendly Web Site Hosting Companies

I find that many of the Web Site Hosting companies support PCs and such, but are not "Mac Friendly."
I want to find a Web Site Hosting company that will allow me to use a third party Mac application (Hype) to develop webpages and then post them to my site.
Can anyone give me any suggestions and help?

This may be of help to you: Life After MobileMe.  iXwebhosting.com is owned by the same company as HostExcellence.com  and offers essentially same features and prices as HE.

  • Are there any Mac-friendly typography software for designing text

I used to do this in PhotoShop 4, but this program is no longer compatible with the iMac. I'm too low-ended to use Adobe Photo Elements. Hence, trying to find a program that one can design their text as 'titles' headlines on display boards, PPT presentations and iWeb. The text then can be saved either as PDF or JPEG thereby avoiding font subsitution when placed in other people's documents especially in iWeb. I have PrintShop for the Mac, but I find there is not enough scope for designing text titles.
    Thanks!

There is a free "lite" version of Art Text 2 available in the Mac App Store.

  • Blur Gallery masks, would love to be able to load them as the source for the effect.

How cool the Blur Gallery is, one of the best things Photoshop got in the last time. I see that when you use the Field Blur, you can save the mask to channels, which gives you a grayscale representation of how the effect was applied. It would be VERY cool if one could do the inverse process, have a grayscale painted mask and load it to adjust the strength of the effect instead of dropping pins. Which is not the same as mask the effect with a selection before apply it, that just mask the effect, it does not vary how much blur is applied to each pixel.
    Thanks!!!!!!

  • How can I use the iPad as a sound source for my Mac?

I would like to be able to record sound off my iPad, onto my Mac.  (I'm using a musical app that only allows me to save short recordings, so I would like to plug my iPad into my Mac and record the music into my Mac, into Audacity or something.)
I know you can't just connect the iPad from the headphone jack, so I'm wondering what equipment I would need.
I've heard that the iPad camera connector can be used to export audio out, does anyone know how that works?
Or, are there any iPad apps available that will make exportable sound recordings of any sounds your iPad is making (from any other app?)  You know, like a screen shot, but for sound instead?
(BTW, I am not interested in streaming music from my iPad.  I already know how to do that.  I'm trying to export audio from a musical instrument app I'm using.)

Unfortunately that link doesn't provide the info I'm looking for...
Answering part of my own question: it ISN'T possible to record audio on the iPad from one app to another. Technically not possible, so there are no apps that serve this purpose.
So, I'm still looking for details on how to connect my iPad to my Mac and use it as a sound source.  I would like to record directly onto my Mac whatever sounds my iPad is outputting, by connecting the iPad to the Mac's audio input in some way.

  • Why do I lose the sound effects for mail on my MBA and not the other Macs I have? Running ML.

Why do I lose the sound effects in Mail for sending and receiving on my MBA and not on my other Macs? Running Mountain Lion. The problerm seems to be related to the sleep mode. When the MBA sleeps and then wakes up the sounds are missing. If I shut down and restart the machine the sounds will be back but only last until the maching goes through a sleep cycle.

Primarily because, as ron245 points out, there is only ONE speaker on the bottom.

  • My web host will not let me FTP MP3s. So my page-turning sound effect is silent?? Workaround"

To enhance an on-line life-style magazine compiled with InDesign CS5, I convertered a page-turning sound effect from a WAV file I found on-line for free to an MP3 in Audacity (a free, Open Source audio recording and processing program). I pasted in the resulting short MP3 onto each spread using Filie - Place as directed by the InDesign documentation. The sound effect works just fine when i open the HTML file in my browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefor) locally from my hard disk. But when I FTP the SWF and updated index.html to my web host, it is silent. Is this because the MP3's are "linkeded" and not "embedded" and hence have to be FTP'd along with the edited index.html and the SWF? If so, does anyone know a workaround?

    Bob,
Thank you so much! My suspicions were correct in that the MP3 indeed was "linked" and not "embedded" and therefore the MP3 had to be physically uploaded, in some fashion, along with the SWF and index.html. I did search the HTML and found no reference to the MP3 in the HTML text so I guessed that the reference was somewhere in the SWF. Rather stupidly i did not look for a subfolder with the MP3 in it on my hard drive. I am brand new to InDesign but, having worked on complex projects for a long time, I set up a folder for the project and a subfoder for each element so that i could bring each element up to a certain level of development (with Photshop and Photoscape and etc) before pasting them into InDesign. Consequently, I have a LOT of subfolders. When you asked about the "resource" folder, I said to myself, "Self, duh?" and when I looked closely, sure enought there was a very clearly marked "resources" (that I did not create...duh! again!) folder with the MP3 in it. But alas, as before, the particular web hosting site I chose would not let me upload a file with a .mp3 extension. I assume that's because they don't want to take the chance of being sued by the RIAA for hosting pirated copyrighted material. Can't say that I blame them, frankly. So i tried a rather simple-minded dodge: I renamed the MP3 with a .txt extension whereupon it (and the resources folder) FTP'd just fine. But when I tried to re-name them to MP3s on the site, no joy. Now I had scoured the InDesign documenation and found a lot stuff relating to MP3s in InDesign PDF save as's but not anything at all about SWF save as's. But after experimenting with the menu command for a while with other audio formats, I strongly suspect that the only sound file you can link into an InDesign project destined to be saved-as a SWF are MP3s. Is that true or will InDesign link some other audio format that may or may not get by my web site? (I have already tried a FLV with just the MP3 but no video and all I got for my troubles was a black video popping up when pages are turned. UGH!) If the MP3 thing is hopeless and there is no work-around that will get past my site's blocking, then I will simply hunt around until I find another site that will allow me to FTP MP3s. So should I give up on my present site and try others? Thanking you in advacne...
    Chuck

  • Just got my Mac air and i would like to make a file to store some web addresses for my new business with rodan and fields and I can't do it. Made the file but i cant copy and paste the web addresses in the file to save them. Please help and thank you.

Just got my Mac air and i would like to make a file to store some web addresses for my new business with rodan and fields and I can't do it. Made the file but i cant copy and paste the web addresses in the file to save them. Please help and thank you.

Yes - well you have to make the file in a word processing Application.
You could use TextEdit (it's free) Pages (words only), or Numbers (data base) (they are part of iWorks - and may or may not be free (included) on your machine.  You could use MS Office (it is not free) You could use any Open source word processor that plays well with Office (NeoOffice, StarOffice) they are free.
That's how you create content and copy/paste URLS. Then you save the file to the desktop. If you are going to make more than one file... you make a folder on the desktop and save, or drag the file(s) into it.
You attach it to your e-mail client which will compress it and e-mail it. An excellent reference is to use Help, from the menu bar, also from inside any application. From your library or book store the OS X for Dummies has a lot of useful information (you don't read it cover to cover but look up chapters about what you'd like to do)
You can also make appointments at your local Apple store for individualized help (if a store is nearby)
