QUALITY -  .MOVs  to Encore, but video quality horrible -- DVD

Hello,
I am a newbie to Encore and video processing, alike - I'm hoping that someone can enlighten me in the ways of High Definition/working with conversion to DVD in Encore.
I'm currently working on making a DVD with a main menu which links to a main feature, Previews, Contact screen and chapters. All of the items for these categories were originally .SWFs and have been converted to .MOVs (using the Moyea SWF to Video pluggin). Not sure if that makes a difference, but the DVD has been completed without any problems, works well in the preview, comes out in the specified 16:9 ratio and links properly. Here is where I feel like I'm walking around in smoke: I would like to build to DVD so that it can be viewed on the Computer as well as TV. But I really want High grade quality video. It seems to me that their was a slight loss of quality from .Swf to .MOV, so I've tried experimenting with everything from the Encore Settings, reading numerous posts on this site and using different conversion formats (MOV, AVI and VOB). I loved the quality when I took the .SWFs to .VOB (however Encore still transcoded and in the end I lost the amazing clarity). After building, when I play the DVD on the computer the quality is a bit hazey (even exchanging the .VOBs for .MOVs.) As of now, my setting are as follows:
PROJECT TRANSCODE PRESETS:
MPEG2-DVD
High quality, VBR transcoding for progressive-frame content (max bit rate =9)
25 fps (the .swfs were built at 24 fps - does this matter?)
quality 5.0
192 kbps, 48kHz, Dolby Digital
VBR, 2 Pass, Min 1.50, target 7.00, Max. 9.00 mbps
Field order: none (progressive
16:9
min bitrate: 1.5
target bitrate: 7
Max bitrate: 9
M frames: 3
N Frames: 12
Video Noise Reduction has been checked and pushed to 100
Deinterlaced was also checked
(what am I doing wrong?)
Right now, I'm so determined to get the best quality - So, I've begun exporting the entire Encore project to .SWF to see if this will do the trick. In the meantime, how can I build to DVD with the highest quality possible?
Than you all in advance.
AC

This is correct, the .swf/.flv files are so compressed that you will only retain the quality of the origional file at best. I've tried this for months and about a Terabyte of files and have found only 1 way to get a good quality DVD from an .flv/.swf.
Connect 1 computer to a TV to play the .swf/.flv. Connect the out connector from the TV to another computer with Premiere installed via the graphics card and then capture the video as it is playing in premiere in the highest quality you can. This can make 30 minutes of compressed .swf into a 10+GB DVD video file. Then after capture, edit and send/export to Encore, make your DVD and then encode like normal.
This has been the highest quality DVD from .swf/.flv that I have been able to achieve.

  • Best Resolution/Quality Settings For 4:3 Video Going To DVD...

    Hello,
I have several old Hi8 tapes that were imported into iMovie 10x and need to find the best export quality for these uncropped 4:3 videos. They will be exported via "Share > File"  into an MP4 file format (with H.264) and then sent to a third-party DVD program. So, what resolution and quality settings do I use?
Do I use the highest resolution (1280x720) and then gauge down the custom quality until it can fit on a 4.7GB DVD?
Do I use whatever resolution that can handle the quality of "High" and still fit on a 4.7GB DVD?
    Peace,
    Dr. Z.

    Hi
DVD is as standard - Interlaced SD-Video quality - Whatever Video-DVD authoring program used (e.g. iDVD, Toast etc)
Feeding iDVD Higher resolution and Progressive material - Will not improve the final DVD but decrease the quality as iDVD do a bad job in downscaling.
To get best possibly result I do
    - Use a Video-Editing program that can handle - Interlaced SD-Video quality - as iMovie up to HD6 and any version of FinalCut.
iMovie'08 to 11 can not do this in full.
    - Export as QuickTime .mov (just straight off) - if iMovie HD6 then just drop the Movie project icon into iDVD (All Quality is preserved)
    - Brand of DVD used - I only use Verbatim
    - Type of DVD used - RW-DVD usually do not work. R+DVD only works on Newer DVD-players - I use R-DVD
    - BURN SPEED - I set as low possibly
    - Free Space on Boot Hard Disk (Mac OS/Start-up one) - never less than 25Gb
This should deliver best possibly result.
    Good Luck !

  • Canon Vixia HG20 - movies are loaded, but too large for DVD - help?

Hi, my HD camera uploads the movies just fine to iMovie 08. My problem now is, because they're in HD they are ginormous files. I can't even get 4 minutes of video onto one DVD!
Is there a magic way to convert or compress these HD files into regular DVD format? Do I have to get a new software to make this happen? I'm googling like crazy and just getting more and more confused.
Or should I just make everything a smaller file, for viewing on an ipod or youtube and put it all on a DVD?
I'm really frustrated and confused! Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi
4 minutes to much - then You got problems.
    a. iDVD doesn't care about GBs at all only duration of movie + menu
    b. iDVD is very hard disk hungry - and only eats the internal/boot drive
so free space on other hard disks doesn't count
The internal/boot drive should have 25Gb or more free space.
    c. No version of iDVD do HD-video - only SD (old time TV resolution)
There are no iDVD HD version out here yet.
alt. is to use Roxio Toast™ which if bougt as Pro incl. BR-component can burn to
a Blue-Ray burner and Disk (AND Small porojects on reg. DVDs - about 20-30 minutes)
BUT - These BR-disks or DVD (BR-coded) Can't be played on DVD-players or Macs
only on BR-players eg PlayStation 3
If it still don't work - see my list
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions

  • After IOS7 video quality poor on iphone4s

    Hi,
anyone else noticed the video quality blurry on iphone 4s after ios7? snapped a few seconds of video out with the dog yesterday, uploaded it and its dreadfull!
never had any issues before, camera seems okay, but video quality is lousy!
any ideas? anyone else having the same?
aside from that ios 7 seems okay.
    thanks

I have experienced the same problem recently, without having made any changes whatsoever to my Handbrake settings. Very strange - streaming quality went from excellent to horrible. The only possible factor, as referred to elsewhere, may be that I upgraded to 9.4v of HB. Yet, even then I did not fiddle with any settings, did not use ATV Legacy (note as problematic elsewhere), did not enable CABAC (also problematic). Verified post-conversion settings of many of my movies in iTunes and there is no difference. Network is as strong as ever. Did, however, recently upgrade ATV software - could this be a related issue?

  • Poor Audio and Video Quality

Using IDVD to burn iMovie containing pictures and music and am getting very poor quality audio and video. The video is very low resolution, lacking clarity and definition, and the audio comes out really flat with over-saturated vocals that is unpleasant to listen to.
The content was made from iMovie 11, importing photos from iPhoto and iTunes music.
    I exported the movie via Share->Export Movie-> HD 1080P
In iDVD 7.1.2 I imported the movie (actually several) into a slideshow menu item.
I used the iDVD encoding preferences set at 'Best Performance' and 'Professional Quality' with no difference between the two
Then to ensure it wasn't the DVD disk causing the problem, I used the 'Save as Disc Image', and validated the file image saved to disk had the same quality issues as the burned DVD.
Then to eliminate the iMovie as the problem, ran a test and used an iPhoto slideshow in place of the iMovie, and it also has the same low quality issues.
I have observed that using the iDVD viewing capabilities, the A/V quality is fine. Its after the burn to disk the problem occurs.
At this point I'm not sure what to try. I'm viewing the DVD on my 50" widescreen TV using Sony DVD player.
A year or so back I did similar steps and the DVD came out fine... the sound quality was excellent and the video quality while not outstanding, was reasonable.
Any ideas -- I'm really stumped.

    Hi
In iMovie'11 - I do (not use Share to iDVD)
    • Share to Media Browser - AND AS Large - NOT HD ! (result will not be better but rather WORSE)
    • In iDVD I import from Media button and Movie tab.

    Hi,
first, sorry if my english sucks jajaa i speach spanish, havent practice my english for a while.
first i edited my video in premier cc
    sequence 1280X720, 59,94 fps
    48000hz - stereo
the i linked it with dynamik link to after, make some color correction, etc etc etc
    i renderd in quicktime animation
my video looks fine in my computer, but when i send my .mov video to encore (cs6) in a HD MENU and standard menú, the image sucks.
i have done the transcoding in encore, but i doesnt work either. i dont know what else to do.

had some old movies from reel to reel on a vcr. i converted these to mp4 format using pinnacle video capture, quality was not great but it was decent enough on my computer. when i placed these on my ipad it was much worse and very choppy.  i have handbrake and thought i could maybe change the movie so i could play it on ipad but dont know what dimensions or framerate etc. currently the movie on the computer is in 640 x 480 mpeg 4  aac.  thanks derek

    Jon,
What Julianne said at first about re-linking made perfect sense and I followed it easily, had actually already been there.  But in my situation now, it didn't have any effect.  The directory of folders which had already been added were still just as they were, and the outstanding balance are not in the desired position.  And the folders which had been brought in earlier today when I clicked "synchronize folder", were still missing all the metadata.
Maybe this means I need to start over, and I'm fine about doing that that, but I don't know what it takes to accomplish that.  I'm concerned now that any changes I make out of guesswork could only make the problem harder to resolve.  It just feels to me like something I did at the beginning just wasn't right, and now it's a tangle.
    Can you advise?
    Thanks,
    Gary

  • Very poor video quality after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I have very poor video quality after transcoding the video file (MPEG) in  Adobe Encore CS5.1. Below you see my used settings in my filmproject.
The problem exists after transcoding in Adobe Encore CS5.1. I checked all steps and found out that there is no problem until transcoding. My exported file  in MPEG has very good video and audio quality.
    Facts:
    1. Camcorder: Panasonic AG-AC160AEJ
Operating System : Windows 7, 64 Bit, Ultimate edition
    Source files: MTS files
    Recording settings (clip settings):
    Type: MPEG Movie
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Frame Rate: 25,00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,0
    2. Sequence settings in Premiere Pro
Sequence was created from Clip directly with settings above.
    3. Exporting settings in Adobe Premiere Pro:
Match sequence settings was activated. Now other changes were set.
    4. Exported File:
    Video
    Image Size: 1920 x 1080
    Data Transfer Rate: 25920 kBit / s
    Frame rate: 25
    Audio:
    Bit rate: 384 kBit / s
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Frequence: 48 kHz
    5. Transcoding settings in Adobe Encore:
I used different transcoding settings such as automatic DVD Transcoding, CBR and VBR.I also set “use maximum render quality”. But all results were always the same: very poor quality.
Why does the encore transcoding cause such bad video quality?
How can I solve this problem?
    Please help me soon.
    Best regards.

    Hi Ann,
    1) I did not only „Automatic (based on source)“ options in my tests, but also many other customized options.
The results are very poor. I have done a new test with the following settings. The result is also poor:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_mpeg2dvd_1.m2v
    Export Settings:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
    Preset: Custom
Codec: MainConcept MPEG Video, Quality: 5
    Frame Rate: 25 fps
    Field Order: Upper
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Automatic (based on source)
    Render at Maximum Rate: [active]
    Bitrate Encoding: VBR, 2 pass
    Minimum Bitrate (Mbps): 5
    Target Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    Maximum Bitrate (Mbps): 9
    GOP Settings
    M Frames: 4
    N Frames: 12
    Use Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    Multiplexer: None
    2) Why shouldn’t I use the “Match Sequence Settings” in exporting? Because of the big output file size?
I used it and the results are very good as I expected:
    Download link: http://www.klavierlehrer-bayern.de/download/test_MatchSequenceSettings.mpeg
    Export Settings
    Match Sequence Settings [selected]
    1920 x 1080, 25 fps, Upper, Quality 50
    User Maximum Render Quality: [active]
    3) I tried also Dynamic Link in PremierePro (to Encore).
    The results are also poor.
    4) I will test also LagarithLoslessCodec and frameserving +DGMPGDec. But the video is vertical long drawn-ot.
I think I did not use it correctly.

  • Horrible video quality

Hi there. I'm trying to use FCE to create a simple wedding video using video and photos. I've been applying titles and adding motion to my photos using keyframes. The video playback looks fine at first, but once I render the video, my motion becomes blurred and my titles become interlaced. It's like the video quality suddenly degrades. It still looks terrible even when I export it as a QuickTime movie (exported with no compression and as a self-contained file).
I've got plenty of memory and hard disk space. It seems as if my dissolves and motion are corrupting the video. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Message was edited by: BarrenRegions

Thank you for your reply. I'm using imported Hi8 footage and JPEG images and working in NTSC at 29.97 fps. However, what confuses me is that it's FCE-generated material (i.e. the titles and transitions) that look horribly interlaced upon rendering.
Here are the two main problems I'm having:
    1. My transitions don't flow smoothly from one clip to the next. Instead, they give the video a "bumpy" feel, as if the screen is shaking.
    2. My main title, to which I've applied motion, looks fine within FCE, but appears horribly interlaced when exported.
    Thank you.

    9 hours??!
Twice the length of a cinema epic?
How are you expecting to distribute it?
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Is it possible to sort / group movies by video quality?

I'd like to sort or group my movies by video quality.  I am not sure if it's possible in iTunes -- if it is, I certainly can't figure it out.
I can certainly see the info when I click "Get Info" on individual films, but I don't see a way to sort or create a smart playlist with such info.
Can I do this, or is it just a dream?
    (I'm on iTunes 11.  Up-to-date.)

Thanks for the info.  I'm specifically interested in splitting 1080 and 720 HD movies, so I'm probably better off just creating non-smart playlists and dropping the movies in each accordingly, as it probably requires as many steps as editing the tags for each film.

  • Poor Video Quality on DVD Created by Encore

I am using Premiere Pro CS6 to edit video shot in 1280 x 720. I've linked the sequences from Premiere to Encore and created the DVD in Encore. I did not run the sequences through Media Encoder first but, rather, let Encore handle the transcoding and compression.
The video when viewed in Premier looks great. The video when previewed in Encore looks great. But the quality of the video when burned to a DVD is lousy. I believe that the video on the DVD is only standard definition, but still the text is blurry and the images are fussy and jagged, more than I expected. Is there something else I should be doing in Premiere or Encore to ensure a higher quality DVD?
    Thanks,
    Dan

Well, I thought I followed the advice I was given pretty closely but I am still having a problem. I volunteered to shoot video for a Special Olympics and was hoping to have already delivered the final video, so any help you might yet be able to offer would be appreciated.
For testing purposes I exported just 3 Sequences from Premiere into Media Encoder (total video length was less than 50 minutes) , transcoded them, and them brought them into an Encore project, but the resulting DVD is still of very poor quality. The video is noticeably blurry and a bit jumpy, and the text is also blurry.
I am viewing the DVD on a 42 inch LED TV.  If I view the Media Encoded .m2v files directly from the computer (i.e., not using the DVD) on a large LED monitor they look pretty sharp.  This leads me to suspect the somehow I am not using Encore correctly.
I will ultimately split the video in two, using 2 DVDs for different segments, so that the total across the 2 DVD is the original 100 minutes.
    Here are my specs:
    Original Assets
The original video was shot in 1280 x 720p.
My sequence timelines in Premiere were also 1280 x 720p
All lower thirds text was created in Photoshop at 1280 x 720
    Media Encoder
All the video was exported directly from Premiere
    Format: MPEG-2 DVD
    Codec MainConcept MPEG Video
Quality (as automatically set by the slider) defaulted at 4.0
    TV Standard: NTSC
    Frame width/height: 720 x 480
    Field Order: None  (Progressive)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 16:9
Render at Maximum Depth: NOT CHECKED  (I forgot)
    Bitrate: VBR 2 Pass
    Minimum: 4
    Target: 6
    Maximum: 8
GOP M Frames: 3 (default, I assume since I did not change it)
GOP N Frames: 12 (again, default, I assume)
Encore (all default settings as far as I know)
Only 2.1GB of a 4.7GB DVD was used
I burned directly to a DVD disk
    Project Settings:
    Authoring Mode: DVD
    Television standard: NTSC
    Codec: MPEG-2
    Dimensions: 720x480
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Fields: Lower First
    Maximum Bitrate: 8.0 Mbps
Any additional help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

  • Movie trailer video quality needed

I've got uncompressed video from AE and Premier. When I
encode to flv and run a presentation from my hard drive or CD, the
quality is great; however, once I post it to the web, the quality
of pixelation irks me. Movie trailers (such as 300 or Transformers)
have excellent quality and are in Flash sites. Does anyone know
what format they are using (.mov, .avi?) and the embedding (or
better yet) call process for displaying these in a Flash website?
I'm guessing that the site is only partially in Flash and then they
are loading the movie in a pure html section. Am I correct?

Well, it seems that Apple's h.264 codec is the only solution
to the video quality that I need to deliver over the web. However,
this poses another problem. Does anyone know how to layer and lock
a .mov file over a .swf?... I suppose it is a html or Dreamweaver
issue, but does anyone know if it even can be done?
    Thanks...

  • HT1933 when i play my purchased movies in HD there the audio and video quality is poor

I have purchased movies in HD but when i try to play them the audio skips and there is skipping in the video as well. However i also have a few movies in Sd and they do not have these problems. However even though the computer im using is not a MAC is an extremely nice Asus with a 4th gen I5 and supports HD video playback. Anyone know what to do  I tried to get help from apple and they scheduled me a phone call two weeks from now? some help right?!

Can anybody suggest me how can I improve the quality of audio and video in JMF Player ? Below here I am providing the source code of the JMF Player I am using:My suggestion would be to use a supported OS with your JMF. JMF doesn't support "Ubuntu 8.04 and MAC OS 10.5", it only supports Redhat and Solaris (and Windows 9X or NT 4.0)

  • Bad video quality on Atom over Internet, but not o...

I have an Asus netbook with a 1.66GHz Atom, 1GB DDR3, and XP.  The video quality when in a call over the Internet is almost always bad, and Skype complains the computer is "slow".  There is no virus scanner or any other garbage running that sucks up resources.  I keep it lean.
So I tried using a different computer to make the call; an 8 year old Sempron laptop, also with XP and 2.2GHz or close to that.  Video quality is great.  So it's obviously a computer performance issue, right?
It gets stranger.  I set up a video call between these two computers over my LAN (i.e. within the same house).  Video quality is great on both.
The results have been similar over a span of a year or more, calling people in different parts of the country, and even dropping Wifi and using a cable.
So what causes Skype to think the computer is slow when video calling over the Internet, but not when calling another computer on the same LAN?  I have a theory, but I'll hold that thought for right now.

I have been using iChat exclusively over WiFi (Airport Extreme) from my iMac, and via Ethernet and WiFi from my Powerbook. I have not had any quality issues when connecting in this manner. Connections within my local network from WiFi to WiFi, as well as to outside connections over Broadband have all been of very good quality. Now if I can just get it all working again following the upgrade to Leopard 10.5.1.
FYI: I have even used iChat AV on Tiger using DUN on my Treo650 (Sprint), which worked fine as well.
