Quality of images poor after upgrade
Hi - I just updated my 2012 rMBP 15 to Mavericks and notice; the screen (fonts, images) not to be as sharp as earlier - images are more dithered and pixelated the whole display is looking more gray and not as bright.
Appreciate help and suggestions
Do not transfer/share your iMovie project to iDVD, this compresses the image. Instead, open iDVD, under the media pane, select your iMovie project. This should improve the quality.
Other tips to improve quality, in iDVD save as a disk image, use Disk Utility to burn to DVD at 1x or 2x. Use good quality media such as Verbatim or Maxcell.
Hope this helps

Is partition "PBR Image" unnecessary after upgrading to Windows 8.1?
Laptop Vostro 3560, bought with Windows 8 installed and upgraded to 8.1.
The disk has a “PBR Image” partition (NTFS, 9.3 GB). I suppose this partition is used to restore the factory configuration, with Windows 8. I do not expect to go back to Windows 8. I will create backup images of the Windows 8.1 installation regularly.
Question: Can this partition, PBR Image, be deleted? Would deleting it cause any problem? When the laptop goes into this stall, sometimes the “Not Responding” (when loading a web page), in the lower right hand corner, the notification area shows the RED ICON, Dell Backup and Recovery. Then, when I go to “settings,” under Devices and Drivers, there is a RED BAR nearly full for this PBR Image thing. It stays just briefly and disappears and I cannot locate where this bar thing disappears to – to look at it again.
But when I go to Disk Management, the 4th box shows:
OS (C:)
456.04 GB NTFS
Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition
Still, prior to my accepting this Dell Recovery, my Web Pages used to really “pop” – fast loading, no stalling. I WAS impressed with the incredible speed of this Laptop! Now I wait for it to think about loading.
I have normal regular sites I visit on a regular basis and any pictures or documents are worked on, viewed and saved to a Flash Drive to keep available space in the laptop. I made no changes to the system, do a regular Defrag and Disk Clean-up, so it makes no sense for this “slow down” after a few months. (Also, I have a new Router with Max speed, so it has nothing to do with the wireless connection). -
Safari on iPad does not display GIF image anymore after upgrade to iOS 4.3
1) Could anybody (especially those in Apple iOS or Safari teams) advise me why the Safari on my iPad cannot display some images (probably in GIF formats) on some webpages anymore, after I upgrade my iPad to iOS 4.3? These images on the webpages can be properly displayed on when my IPad runs with iOS 4.2.1. There should be no problem with these embedded image files because they can still be properly display in Safari running on my Macbook air.
2) Is there any solution to this problem?
3) Is it possible to downgrade my iPad back to iOS 4.2.1?I am having the same issue with two different ipads (one Wifi and one Wifi-3g) running on our home network (Verizon FIOS). The website in question is www.tvwc.com and the main logo in the upper left corner, a .gif, does not display, only a "?". Other images on the site, in .jpg format, display correctly.
I was running 4.2.1 and am now just upgrading to 4.3. -
Desktop images disappeared after upgrade to 10.4.7
I upgraded from 10.4.4 to 10.4.7 using the Combo download available on apple.com. (Every time I tried to download the upgrade through Sofware Update, it kept timing out.) The upgrade fixed the Mac Help app, which was not working.
After installing the upgrade, the Apple-supplied photos I had selected to use as my desktop have disappeared. It's back to the default blue screen. In the Desktop and Screen Saver System Preference pane, the choices are there but are grayed out and not selectable. The Screen Saver works just fine.
I've considered reinstalling 10.4.4 then doing the upgrade to 10.4.7 right after, but I don't know if that will even work. I'd like to have desktop images available, but have already spent several hours trying to figure this out. Any ideas?

disappeared. It's back to the default blue screen. In

I just checked it again, and in fact, the Desktop photos are not even grayed out. They aren't there. I click on the left pane to view "Nature" images, but the folders appear empty.
I tried to find the actual folder files on my HD, not sure where they are.
Any ideas?

Unsupported image format after upgrade to 3.4.5
I have just upgraded to Aperture 3.4.5 and have connected the previous library which had been comiled in version 2.
I am now seeing loads of Unsupported Image Formats appear in the random sample of files I have checked.
I use two cameras mainly, a Nikon D2x and a Canon Powershot G15 and shoot a lot on raw with the Nikon but mainly high res jpegs on the Canon. Images from both are subject to this occurrence.
Initially the preview and the image will appear in the main panel but when I attempt to do anything in the adjustments panel then I get the Unsupported Image format appear.
Any inputs would be most appreciated. Also the Aperture Trial library that appears at the top of the side bar.
Aperture shows the name of the Aperture library at the top of the Library Inspector panel. If you bought Aperture originally by downloading a trial version and then unlocking the trial with a serial number your library may still be called "Aperture Trial". You can rename the Aperture Library in the Finder. Select the package "Aperture Trial.aplibrary" in thePictures folder,or wherever you keep the libraries and rename the package to Aperture Library.aplibrary" or similar.
I have gone through a few folders and reconnected them and this is working so far. Is there a way to connect the who;le library without having to go through every folder as there are many of them.
You can select several projects at once to reconnect the originals. If Aperture can guess the location of the originals from the ones it just reconnected it should work to select all images at once, then pair the first image with the original, and then to select "reconnect all".
The easiest way to select all images at once is the Photos tab. -
Image garbled after upgrading to 10.6.1
When I open faces with the "faces" button below the main iPhoto screen, the display is garbled and blocks of the screen are repeated across the picture. There seems to be something wrong with the way 10.6.1 displays certain pictures. This effect is new since I upgraded to 10.6.1
Solved with hint from KT. Trashed some pref files:

Wrong Images played after upgrade
I upgraded to iLife06 and the edited movies now play the wrong bits of the video clips (but not the wrong media clip). Additionl audio seems to have slipped (music track)
Has anyone had this trouble? How best to proceed depends a lot on how much editing you intend to do with those iMovie 4 projects. Here are some options:
1. Reinstall iMovie 4 and finish editing them with iMovie 4. (Note that if the clips of Media files are indeed messed up, they will be messed up in iMovie 4 too.)
2. Use iMovie 4 to export to the camera, then re-import to iMovie 6. Most clips will return as discrete clips, just as they were in iMovie 4. Some will lose their "clip-ness", but that may not matter.
3. Create a new iMovie HD project and import the movie "Your iMovie 4 Project Name.mov" that's inside the iMovie 4 project folder into a iMovie HD project. Everything will arrive as a single clip and play in the proper over. (Stuff that's missing will still be missing.)
4. Drag the DV clips from the iMovie 4 project folder's Media folder into the iMovie 6 project. They will arrive in no particular order.
5. If lots of clips are damaged there may be little value in trying to rescue them. Rather than try to make sense of the mess -- which can waste a good week or two -- it's probably better starting over in iMovie 6. Starting over usually goes a lot faster than you think for you know WHAT you want to do; you just have to DO it.
6. Don't forget too that the project.mov in the iMovie 4 project can play in QuickTime Player without iMovie 4. Playing it will help you see what may be missing.
Yes, iMovie HD 6 lets you edit both (normal) DV and (high definition) HDV. Plus several other types of movie too. See iMovie Help.

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (yes I know I'm slow to upgrade) my Canon MX870 isn't printing text. It is printing images but the quality if horrendous because it's not printing the black ink.
Here's what I've done so far
Installed the latest drivers for Snow Leopard from Canon
Cleaned the heads of the printer
Added new ink to all cartridges
Run printing tests (nozzle print patterns)...all good
Reset my printers in the Print Fax Preferences and added in the printer again
Numerous restarts
Now I'm at a loss for what else to do. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
BTW, printer is connected via USB not wireless.OK well I can see now that all of my files are present on the hard drive (mybook) only they are not showing up in aperture. It seems that there has been some sort of communication breakdown between the two.
As I said several files are missing and or corrupt in my aperture library. I'm wondering if there is a way to rebuild the library without using the vault technique? Does this make sense to anyone?
I was able to go into finder - mybook - aperture library - show contents and see that all my raw files at least are there. Now I just need to get aperture to recognize them.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Problems with quality of image since upgrading to Adobe Reader XI version11.0
Since installing the new update I seem to be having a problem scanning files to PDF - first the scan missed off the bottom over every page but after several hours of changing settings on the computer and on the scanner (and actually uninstalling all printer and adobe software and reinstalling it again), this now seems to be ok - but the quality of the PDF is quite poor.
I can't work out how to get a better quality and I am sure it is something to do with PDF / Adobe because when I scan the document and save it as word / TIFF / JPEG, the image is brilliant. I also can't seem to save any of the TIFF / JPEG files to PDF.
Any ideas? The above problem is happening on my MAC and on the integrated Windows 7 via VMFusion Ware.
ThanksGood Day! I also noticed that after I installed the Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.1 that the image quality is very poor unless you zoom in a lot. If I open the same PDF file with Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.0, the image quality is very good. There must be an issue with Reader XI Ver 11.0.1. Also, I have found that if I select text and copy it to the clipboard, an error message pops up. The text is, in fact, copied to the clipboard, so I don't know what the error is. The error box is created by Adobe, not Microsoft Windows.

My ipod touch 4 music quality is much poorer with IOS 6 upgrade. How can I get IOS 5 music quality back?
No available eq setting is acceptable.
Right now, I feel like driving a nail through it.Me again. I cleaned out the headphone jack with a q-tip soaked with rubbing alcohol. Most of the q-tip fibre was removed to be able to insert it into the jack. After pushing and turning fairly vigorously for a half minute, I pulled it out and a large piece of pocket lint came out with it as well. The Ipod now sounds excellent.
