Quality of iPad 2 glass?

I fell asleep whilst reading kindle on my iPad 2, and woke to find my iPad had fallen off the bed and had cracked from one corner of the screen spreading through the screen. I have had it for less than 2 months and I am extremely disappointed in the quality of apple.I look after my things and even have a protective case, and the height of the fall was not high. Is this the quality of apple? Is the screen not supposed to have some gorilla glass? I find it pointless to design something so light and multi functional but have such poor sustainability. If I read a hardcover book in bed and it fell, it wouldn't brake.
My retailer says they have to charge me to fix it due to negligence.no 1 I don't feel I was being negligent and secondly the repair costs are outrageous. Everything else is working normally though... Just a broken screen.

You don't?

But glass is glass. impact on a corner will do it every time. Sorry for your loss.

  • Iphoto 2 reduces image quality on iPad Air

I seems there is a significant reduction in image quality when editing images in iPhoto 2 (iOS7) on an iPad Air.
Not sure which component is the real problem ... and no, I'm not talking about file size (I know they are reduced) - I talk about dpi
    So here's my old setup:
Nikon 5000 (image quality fine), iPad 3, Connection Kit for SD card, iPhoto on iOS 6
... with that setup I was able to save my edited pictures back to camera roll and the still had 300 dpi
    My current setup:
Nikon 5000 (image quality fine), iPad Air, New Connection Kit for SD card (lightning), iPhoto 2.0 on iOS 7
... now my adited images only save back to the camera roll with 72 dpi!
As my DSLR and the SD cards are the same than before it seems that either
    - Connection Kit
    - iPhoto 2
    - iOS7
    - iPad Air
    is the trouble maker!
While iPhoto seems the obvious source for the problem I had an experience that makes me think it could also be the iPad Air:
After creating a video with iVideo (with material from the iPhone 5) I saved this bakc to the camera roll and it was resized (resulting in cuts on the left and right edges) on the iPad.
Copying the same Video to iVideo via AirDrop on my iPhone 5 and savicg it to camera roll there resulted in a correct non-resized version.
So while I can easily live with that workaround for Video the reduction in images from 300 dpi to 72 dpi is signifikant and a real problem.
Anybody experiencing the same, any hints what I can do different to avoid thar reduction?

Just found an interesting article that may be the solution of my problem:
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/icloud-photo-stream-and-image -quality/
As I brought together pictures from my DSLR and the iPhone I think I used the Shared PhotoStream folder for editing them in iPhoto 2. In the past I usually worked on the pictures separately (and directly form the Camera Roll) as I didn't mix so much DSLR and iPhone use.
That should explain it and I have to remember to edit directly in the camera roll and the next time.
So it's not a big deal ... I still have all the originals and will save them somewere in my Dropbox if I need them in higher resolution. At least I know I have to change my re-work behavior in the future.

  • Broken iPad 2 glass

I just bought ipad2 at Taiwan and I Broken it from about 50cm high.
I use Marware cover but nothing help the conner was bent so the glass broken
I ask Taiwan apple to repair it the price is 14000NT new one is 21500NT it funny.
And I looked this make me a little angry

    http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-2-forum/27666-broken-ipad-2-glass.html
Why they can repair ipad2 for free.
I don't think I can repair it for free at Taiwan but the price is really too expensive the new 16G wifi iPad 2 is 15500NT. I change the glass will cost 14000NT.
I have iPhone 4 and I Mac but broken this iPad 2 glass make me so disppoint with Apple

Getting a free repair for damage you caused is extremely rare and is not normal Apple policy. Those two people were just very lucky.
If you crashed your car would you expect the manufacturer to fix it for free?
You should be disappointed in yourself for dropping the iPad, not Apple - it wasn't Apple's fault you did that, so why should they lose money fixing it for free?

  • Ipad 2 glass replaced but cracked along camera

We had the glass on the ipad2 replaced after my son son dropped the ipad and shattered the front glass panel.  However, having it back after only two weeks I picked the ipad up in its leather case, pressed the front botton to use it and the glass cracked with a popping sound about 10mm from the side of the pad over the camera.  I phoned the company immediately, they said to bring it in as soon as we were able which was a week later and that they should be able to look at it under warrenty.  In the mean time the crack travelled further down to the corner of the screen as we continued to use it.  The company now tells me they havent had this problem before, that it must have been because of an impact, or because of the way I was holding it.....There has been no impact that anyone in the family is aware off since it was returned and  there is no damage to the edge/side that would indicate any impact other than the original damage to the corner where it was dropped and another scrape on another corner over a year ago. Has anyone had a similar experience with a repaired ipad?
    cheers

Presumably this was a repair carried out by an unauthorised third-party repair company, and not Apple, as Apple don't actually repair iPads. Quite possibly this 'company' are using non-original, lower quality iPad parts which are not as good/strong as original parts.

  • How To Securely Mount iPad On Glass?

As a requirement to display an app in an office I am looking for suggestions how I can securely mount an iPad onto an internal glass window.
Anybody done this before or have suggestions on how to do it?

Use some sticky back Velcro. With Velcro you can unmount if needed and then remount.

  • IPad 2 glass loose by home button and slightly raised.

The glass by my iPad home button is lose and slighly raised. I took it to a genius bar and they didn't replace it. It also makes a ticking joins if and kind of pressure is out on it. What should I do. It's really irritating.

How long have you had the iPad? If it was like that when you took it out of the box you probably should have boxed it back up and returned it immediately.
The iPad comes with a one year warranty against manufacturer defects and while the device may be operating properly right now, it's hard to imagine that the loose glass will not get even looser over time and cause problems for you in the future.
I'm basing my opinion what I would do based on your description of the device - assuming that it is clear to see that the glass is loose and that the clicking noise could be replicated so that someone else can hear it.  With that in mind, I would take it back again and plead my case, very politely, but firmly, and ask to speak to someone higher up the chain of command at the Apple Store and explain your concerns again and try to get it replaced.
Once again, if the glass is clearly loose and there is some clicking noise resulting from this, it would seem logical to expect it to get progressively worse so the sooner you deal with it the better off you will be.

  • Airplay sound quality from iPad

I am trying to use Airplay to stream music to a rather high end HiFi system from my iPad.
Using an new airport express optical out to a high-en DAC.
Sound quality when streaming from iMAC iTunes via airplay to the system just great
Sound quality when streaming same music from iPAD or iPhone via airplay rather poor as their is little dynamic etc. almost as if bit rate is very low or so. Wifi signal is strong no drop outs
Any idea what I do wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I experience the same. I expect that it has something to do with the way Airplay works. There is iTunes Airplay and there is System Airplay. You get more or less the same result when you only use Airplay in iTunes on your iMac and keep the system setting on internal speakers (by alt-clicking the speaker icon in the menu-bar).

  • How to adjust print quality via iPad?

How do you adjust the print quality in Pages via iPad? Or what is the best way to print a phoot from iPad?

You do not adjust the print quality in IOS Pages. The capability of your Air Print capable printer for handling Postscript/PDF print jobs, and its inherent resolution capability/setting — will dictate the quality of the print.
Suggest you open the document with Pages v5 on OS X, where you can control the output quality in a PDF export to a capable printer.

  • Font and vector quality on iPad mini

    Hi,
I have a quality problem with (mostly) fine vector lines and thin Fonts on iPad mini. On iPad retina everything is super sharp and looks as intended, but on the iPad mini it looks like stage quality low or something. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you have any ideas how to solve that?
    Best!

Mobile devices use weak embeded CPU. Sooner or later this will cause performance issue and app quality. You must use GPU rendering instead.
Retina show vector also not sharp. It have the same pixeled edges. But looking on 2x resolution you don't see this. You can play with StageQualty for solving this. But I'm suggest don't use any vector because improving vector quality you will receive more and more CPU overload. Or you if never will play your App on weak and old devices.

  • IPad Air glass break

-anyone else experience any broken glass? I ask because i had the iPad Air for about 31.5 hours, only used it for about 20 minutes other than the Apple representative that set it up fo rme in the stor, and the glass shattered at the thumb / home button area.  wonder if thinner = more glass breakage. still have 3 others in household with no damage and two of those belong to my twin 9 years old boys and other to my wife for business needs.  This is my first iPad.  Genius bar said it will be at least a week for replacement even though they have new ones in store.  With my Apple care it will cost about $49.  I realize the Genius doesn't know me from the next person, but in a leather case (from wifes ipad 3) but it wasnt hit, banged, dropped.  Disappointed.

Well i also was skeptical before when i heard that other people saying about iPhone/iPad screens were broken on it's own. When i dropped my iPhone and broke the screen for a first time i also referred to apple forum trying to find solution to repair. And there i saw that people were claiming that screens were broken on it's own. I didn't really believe it then especially since i own now and owned in the past multiple apple products. i didn't think it could happen until... it happened to me! So it showed to me that you shouldn't be skeptical to other people remarks! also since i found out how fragile iPad screens are i ordered thick tempered glass screen protector for it. Hopefully if i ever get my new replacement iPad i'll use it for extra protection. i have one like this on my iPhone and it works great, it looks like it would give it better protection then just film.
Another little update about my case: I still couldn't send damaged iPad yesterday out to apple. Apparently even know that most of my other experiences with Apple CS for my multiple apple devices was good and easy, this time it's problematic even now 4 days later i'm now sure how it'll work out. I guess AC CS have some incompetent reps there that don't know what they're doing. Till now i only have their promises to replace it but not yet any actions. To make it short i'll just did what i was instructed to do by apple rep. on Monday and the same instructions were given to me via e-mail: just bring my iPad to local UPS store, give them the repair ID and they would take it and ship it out to apple, and then the replacement one will be mailed to me. it sounded easy enough until i got to UPS store yesterday did as i was instructed to, obviously UPS guy deals with this all the time, as the first thing he ask when he saw me walking in with iPad: "are you sending out Apple repair?" But after i gave him case # to my surprise he couldn't find it in the computer. So again a long call from UPS office to AC to find out what's going on. They put me on hold for about 30-40 min, as the rep. that helped me originally had a day off so other people were trying to figure out my case. But finally they told me that it has to be mailed by Fed Ex not UPS, and i should receive a Fed Ex box with the instructions how to pack and ship it. After e-mailing to original rep that set up my case, he got back to me, saying that he originally set it up for UPS drop off but for some reason a box was sent to me after he set up a drop off repair. He apologized for the inconvenience and said that i should get the box within 2 business days, but today is the 3rd business day since the day i called and i still don't have the box. Hoping maybe it'll arrive today or no later tomorrow. But as a result to all this i waisted en extra hour between going to UPS and then being on hold on the phone trying to find out whats going on and that is to addition to 3 hours on monday before between going to Genius bar and being on the phone with AC originally. Plus i had to erase my iPad yesterday before drop of and then downloading my stuff back again because i use it for work and it's inconvenient enough to be without it while it will be shipped out, but now since i'm not really sure how long it can take before i can even ship it, i better continue to use the broken one.

  • Will dry erase marker on iPad display glass damage it?  And will the solvent spray to remove the marker (like Expo) cause damage?

I want to be able to make notes on images and in apps when a stylus is not an option to draw/ make notes. I thought dry eraser markers could work as thewould likely easily erase from the glass screen. My only big concern is with the chemicals in the markers and in the spray, whether the. May damage the screen.  Any thoughts?

I think the only way I'd do this would be to put a screen protector on your device and write on that.
Apple doesn't recommend anything beyond a damp cloth (with water) to clean the surface of the device. At least with a screen protector the chemicals are on that, not your iPad screen.

  • IPad Air glass break from "thumb" pressure

This makes me so angry.  I've always owned apple products, and I have an ipad 3 and an iPad Air and two iMac minis, a MacBook Pro, iphone etc....however THIS IPAD air is made out of  cheap screen or something???  My iPad Air was always in its logitech Bluetooth kb folio! The one day I decided to use it naked without the folio, I pick it off the table, (picture this ...thumb right next to the "home-button"  and then ....crack crack crack crack.....hairlines everywhere, and the biggest shock... My thumb did it.  It's right there on the screen, shuttered pressure point where it all starts.   Now check this.  My ipad has never fell no scratches and not even one sight of falling.   I curently live in Greece.  So I take it to info quest (authorised apple service shop) and first they didn't accept my "excuse" but then talked to the manager telling him I'm 100% when apple sees they will know its part of their defective screens and give me another one.  Let's not forget, I'm in warrantee still!!!
so they take it in, they check it, and then reply back,  I have to pay the, 389 euros for a replacement of the whole ipad air!    For god sakes, this isn't my fault.  It clearly shows that the screen is cracked with a thumb pressure.   Please, apple what do I do?  Can I contact apple so they can approve it or something?   This is so Stupid that I paid so much to pay even more for a broken one... *** this doesn't make sense.  I need some kind of help here apple?????   what can I do???

Which could well be interpreted as "your fault", albeit unintentional.

Apple is not here. This is a user-to-user technical support forum. Use the Contact Us link at the bottom right of every page for information on how to reach Apple. You can try calling Applecare and asking to speak to a supervisor to whom you can plead your case. I'd suggest waiting until your are less angry. Calm and reasonable will be more likely to convince people to help you.

  • My iPad 2 glass has cracked is it possible to repair it without having insurance?

help! I've had my ipad for about 2 months now and the top right corner cracked because it fell on the concrete floor. What can I do?

Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iPad/service/faq/
If you have an Apple Store near you, you can take your iPad there, explain what happened, and in some cases the technician has been able to replace the iPad at no charge, though Apple's apparently tightened up quite a bit on such "discretionary" replacements so they may have to charge you.
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "iPad repair".
    Regards.

  • Would the picture taken from iPad Mini would be same in quality as iPad 4th Gen or iPhone 5?

I just visited one of Apple Store and tested out the Mini, I wonder the image I took with camera on Mini would be the same as iPhone 5 or iPad 4th Gen

    Compare iPad Specs http://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/
The mini & iPad 4 have the same cameras. Probably same for iPhone 5.
