Quality of .nef LR files Degrading after Edited in CS4 and saved as .tif?

After I edit a .nef picture in LR, I right click  and select "edit in CS4".  I do my edits in CS4 (usually cloning) and I choose to save the image in CS4, it automatically appears as a .tif in Lightroom with the same rating/color coding that I gave to the original .nef Lightroom file that I decided to edit in CS4.
But, in the .tif in LR, I lose some of the edits to the .nef picture that I did in Lightroom.  I am noticing the pictures are lighter and contrast and darks are lighter.  I feel like the quality is degraded too and looks weird.
Anyone else experience this and do you have any advice?  Thanks so much!

Problem solved I think.  The Photoshop update I have blowing off for a couple of weeks seems to have fixed it.  There was an update in the bundle I downloaded for camera raw 5.7(?) and I'm guessing that is what the problem was...  Fingers crossed this never happens again.  Thanks!!!

  • After editing with photoshop and saving, can't find it

    1) After editing a photo with Photoshop, save it, I can't find it. Only the original unedited photo is in my library.
    2) I tried adding a name extension to the DSC...., but can't find that either.
    3) Where can I resize photos using Iphoto editing?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you using Photoshop as described here:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • I loose my files after editing with photoshop and saving.

I can "see" the file title listed in the photoshop save dialogue box but can find no way to access them again. They do not appear in aperature and fail to be found using any search string from finder.

Before you sent the image to Photoshop as the External Editor, did you see new version (either .psd or .tif) that Aperture created for the purpose?  If so, then is that version still in the strip of images, or in the Browser?

  • Can't see iPhoto pics that are edited in PS and saved back to iPhoto

Photos that are edited in Photoshop and saved back into iPhoto don't show up in the iPhoto window. Only the originals show up. When I do a search, I see that they are saved in a "modified" folder inside iPhoto. How can I see them in the iPhoto window? I would like to "trash" some of them. Can I just drag them to the trash from the "modified" folder or will that foul up the iPhoto database?

It's either in local folders, as it seem you had been doing, or in icloud.  If you go into the mac's Pages and view the icloud files, you can drag on onto another to create a folder.  But you can only have folder one level deep, so you can't organize your files/folders like you can on a mac, using nested folder several levels deep.

  • File size comparisons, InDesign CS3, CS4 and CS5?

    Hi, all.
It seems there was a trend for several major releases where each time Adobe released a new version of InDesign and InCopy, average file sizes grew by 20% or so from the old release to the new release, at least back in the older CS days. Has this trend continued, such that file sizes in CS4 are substantially larger than file sizes from CS3, and CS5 files are substantially larger than those from CS4?
Adobe, of course, wants to keep writing functionality that will keep the user community coming back to buy in to upgrades. The added functionality sometimes comes at a cost beyond the price tag. If file sizes are larger in a newer version, then page saves over a network or to a database are likely to be slower, and user productivity takes a hit while users are waiting for files to be saved.
Has anyone done any testing to build the "same" page in multiple versions of InDesign to understand what the effect is on the file sizes? I'm specifically interested in the file sizes between InDesign CS3, CS4 and CS5. To be meaningful, the test page would have to be at least moderately complex, with a couple of photos, multiple text elements and so forth. By "same," the page wouldn't take advantage of new functionality in newer versions but would be saved as a native page of the current version, though the file sizes may be bloated by the new functionality like it or not.
If you've done any testing along these lines, I'd like to hear more about it.
    Thanks.

The overall structure of ID's files have been exactly the same for -- as far as I can see back -- CS. No change at all, in there.
There have been significant additions to the 'global' spaces; stuff like InCopy user data, table styles, object styles, and cross references. Each of these add a major chunk of data to each file, whether you use it or not, plus a few bytes per object (again, whether you use them or not -- ID also needs to know where you did not use them, that's why). I think these might be the main source of 'global' file size increase (a single object style in one of my files, for example, eats up a healthy chunk of 11,482 bytes).
For the rest, all new stuff like 'span columns' is a handful of bytes per paragraph style. Tracking changes may very well double the size of text runs -- but 1 character takes up 1 byte of storage (plus perhaps some overhead of indicating its 'tracking' status). Any single measurement unit always uses 8 bytes at least (for example, the left inset for a column span -- even if it's not used, or set to 0pt).
I think we're talking about a couple of K's here (oh -- perhaps a max of a hundred or so), in a file format that has been designed around the concept of "disk pages", each 4K big, meaning that sometimes adding one single character to a text box increases the file size by 4 K.
Your idea of comparing the size of a file created in CS3 against the same saved as CS4 and as CS5 is certainly feasible -- I might try it some time, just to confirm it's purely the extra 'new objects' data that accounts for the size increase and to confirm my guesstimates of the number of Ks involved.

  • After editing camera raw and export as jpeg, image becomes overexposed when view on light room..please advise.

need some help here. don't know if i can describe this accurately.
i was using lightroom previously. edit my raw file and then export in jpeg. everything appear normal as what i wanted.
recently i got cs4 and started using bridge. now after i edit my photo in lightroom and export, the view of the jpeg file appears overexpose(exposure was increase) and when view on adobe bridge same problem. but if i open photoshop and use my workspace colour setting everything is ok. when i see my picture on iphoto it is normal as per i have edited. i just don't know what setting i have touch that cause my viewing of edited photo on lightroom and bridge goes overexpose. on bridge, thumbnail ok but preview bad...
for the record: i just install CS4 and snow leopard recently. before this i have no problems with LR. I'm also not sure if i have accidentally change any settings.
i shoot with a 5D mark 2 and use the raw file for edit.
    will appreciate any advise. Thanks

Is it possibe to return to a RAW image and edit it once I've exported it to another location as jpeg?
    Yes
I've edited and exported an image to a different folder on my desktop. I've realised I still need to do some work on it
but when I try and open it again in Lightroom ( I see it in Library)  I get a mesaage saying file not found...Please help
We're going to need a lot more details aobut exactly (EXACTLY) the steps you follow after you do the export, because normally I would say this is one of the easiest things possible in Lightroom. Are any files moved or renamed or disks unplugged in between the time of export and the time when you try to edit again?

  • When LR3 file edited in CS4 and then saved...

The .tif loses the color label and the rating that I gave the original LR file (.nef).  I then have to turn off all of my filters and find the edited files.  I guess I can just search by .tif.  I was just used to LR2 which would keep the rating and color label..  Let me know if there is a setting I need to change or if this is really a bug.  Thanks!

It's a bug.  Saving to xmp (ctrl-s / cmd-s) before you edit in PS appears to be the workaround for the moment.

  • All Files Error after Update Pages, Numbers and Keynote, Why ?

    Dear Apple Lovers,
I am using ipad 2 Wifi + 3G 64 GB, I had updated my ipad from ios 4.1.3 to ios 7.1.1 two week ago.
After that All aplication and all file can be opened properly well.

if i open the file ... spreadsheet can't be imported... the file format is invalid
    or in Pages...
document can't be imported... the file format is invalid...
If I want to share that document via icloud ... Can't Send Spreadsheet.. To send this spreadsheet, open it in Numbers for iOS first.
In other case... I create a new file in Pages, Numbers or Keynote..  but all the new files can't view in Tab Apps when my ipad is connected to my mac pro via iTunes.  If I create a file using other aplication (example using DocToGo), a new file that is created can be seen directly in iTunes Tab Apps DocToGo.
in this morning when i open Numbers all my files are disappear including new file without the reason at all, please give me the  best solution. I need your help very very urgent.... since my working datas is very very important.
    Thanks and Best Wishes,

I'm having the same problem with Numbers files.  The open on my iPad, but not on my Mac running Mavericks.

  • I edited a photo and saved it.  Then couldn't find it in the organizer!

I had a couple photos in the organizer that I edited.  After editing I saved them (I'm pretty sure).  Then I couldn't find them in the organizer.  They seem to have disappeared.  Where did they go?  I certainly never deleted them!

It was Elements 12.  The photos were opened from the Organizer.  99+% of them return there OK.  A couple didn't out of thousands.  I don't remember what I did to them specifically in returning them--assume I did the same with all.  With thousands of photos, I can't remember the file names in order to search for the ones missing.

  • Is there an Add-on capable of editing HTML pages and saving the website itself on the actual webpage?

I want to know if there is an Add-on for Editing webpages and saving them to the actual website, and you can change it back at anytime, just you the person that edited it.

So making an edit of a website that's only visible to you and that you can change? No I don't think such a thing is possible. You can download the page to your computer and make edits that only you can view.

  • How to achieve small file size after editing compressed video?

I recieved a video in .wmv file format with a file size of 6 MB. In  Premiere its info is
    320 x 240 (1.0)
    00;03;17;01, 30.00 fps
    44100 Hz - Stereo
I want to remove a few parts from the video with simple cuts and make video file with an appropriate file size and format for playing on a web page.
I made a simple test by importing and placing the video in a sequence and without any editing exported the sequence to FLV|F4V format with the preset: F4V - Same as source(Flash 9.0r115 and higher). This created a new video with the same quality as the original but the file size went to about 40 MB which I think will make it much slower than the original 6 MB file when played back on a web page.
I tried things like reducing the frame rate to 10 fps and lowering the sound quality. This didn't affect noticably the quality but the file size was reduced only with about 5 MB to the total of 35MB which is still very big for a web video.
I'm aware that editing a highly compressed videos can't produce the same quality with the same size but I will greatly appreciate any tips for lowering the files size while retaining some usable quality in a case like this.

Since wmv is Microsoft's format, you might want to use their free editor

  • After editing a photo, I sometimes get an error message that the "File is empty".  Can revert to original and start again, but file disappears after editing.

So frustrating!  I open the photo.  Edit by cropping, adjusting color, etc.  It's perfect.  I click DONE and move on to the next.  When I come back, the first photo is gone.  I can see it in the album but cannot open it.  When I look at the file information, it shows zero KB.  If I move it to the desktop and try to open it, the error message says the file is empty.  I can revert to original and there it is.  Edit again, and again it disappears.  What am I doing wrong?  I am using iPhoto 09

You shooting with a Nikon? We've seen a few examples of this bug with Nikons on 09 and 10.6, with no solution except to upgrade.

  • Huge file sizes after editing DNGs in PS

Whenever I need to make a local adjustment and I bring the raw file (DNG) into Photoshop, it saves as TIFF or PSD, which increases the file size from 20mb to around 150-200mb. Is there a better format I can save as without compressing? Cheers.

Rendered files are big files and always will be. Only render files when you require them and delete them after us as you can always render them again. Of course once you have opened into LR you have rendered the file. The best way of reducing the size of the rendered file is to save as a compressed Tiff as this retains everything in a lossless format. If you don't require layers then why open into PS anyway?
