Quality of podcast on large TV screens

I am interested to buy an Apple TV mainly to watch video podcasts, but the screen is rather large, I suspect the quality will be lowered.

The quality of the podcasts you watch will depend entirely on their individual quality, I could point you to some really stunning podcasts, but I could also show you some really trashy stuff that looks like it was recorded on a old phone.

The article you cited refers to The Mac Pro, a 50lb silver tower -- not a notebook computer.
    Everymac.com says:
    2nd Display Support:
    Dual/Mirroring*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    2560x1600 (x2*)
    Details:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single display up to 1920x1200 via HDMI. Although it can theoretically power all three external displays, as confirmed by a helpful reader, it runs too hot with three displays connected.
Also see: How many external displays can the Retina Display MacBook Pro models support? What is the maximum supported resolution of each? Are adapters required?
When using other than ThunderBolt displays, the ThunderBolt port is directly compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and can be forced into compatibility (with Single-Link DVI or HDMI up to 1920 wide) with a simple adapter.
To adapt to wider displays, an ACTIVE Dual-Link adapter is needed, about US$100.

    Hi ka_tin,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If the largeness you are seeing is related to the Accessability Zoom function (a feature that allows you to zoom in on the screen for people with vision issues), you may find the following page helpful:

  • I have 1920x1080 files to edit in iMovie to show on large movie screen for charity event what is best frame rate and best save option for quality versus file size?

I shoot a lot of HD video of my kid, and at first I struggled to find a good balance between maintaining the full-resolution original footage and having something a little more reasonable and lightweight to work with. For example, even on my one-year-old iMac, I can't smoothly scrub the full HD video clips in the editor -- but if the clips have been 'optimized' to 960 x 540, they're smooth as butter (and still look good enough for almost every output scenario).
If, when you're importing the original footage, you enable the "Optimize video" checkbox, you'll get the lightweight version in your event library, but you won't get a copy of the orignal footage as well. It'll still be on your camera (or wherever else you put it before heading to iMovie), but that's not very helpful.
If you're using iMovie '09 (v.8) or '11 (v.9), there's a decent way to do this that isn't terribly obvious.
    So here's what I do:
When importing the original footage, disable the 'Optimize video' checkbox, and select the 'Move files' radio button. This will move the full HD clip into /[selected volume]/iMovie Events/[event title]. (Or you can use 'Copy files' and get the same end result.)
Select the new event in the Event Library in iMovie, and go to File » Optimize Video » Large -- 960x540 (or 'Full,' which is still going to be more compressed than the original HD, but at the same resolution; I find 'Large' to be just fine for my needs, though).
That second step takes the original HD clip that was in /[selected volume]/iMovie Events/[event title] and moves it into /[selected volume]/iMovie Original Movies/[event title], and then puts the optimized version into /[selected volume]/iMovie Events/[event title].
Now you've got a fully organized directory structure containing all of your original HD footage, sorted by event, plus an Event Library full of nice lightweight versions for quick editing and exporting.

Thanks for that info! Even in my time answering questions on iMovie Discussion Group, I never had a good understanding of when and how Optimize Movie came into play. I always would import as Optimized and Large Size and figured that was good enough. But knowing you got much, much more flexibility doing it the way you describe gives me a much better understanding of the different routes you can take into the Event Library.

recently upgraded from 620 to 635 and im beginning to think it was a mistake.
build quality and speed issues aside, whats annoying me most today is that many emails with embedded pics dont fit on the screen (theyre too big) and wont zoom out or scroll across so i lose large portions of the right hand side of the message. is there a way to stop this and make it "fit to screen" as i cant find anything in settings

  • Quality of podcast images

I have used GB to create several podcasts for my course. When I share them to disk and use Podcast Capture to put them on iTunesU, the images are very fuzzy. The original disk version is excellent when viewed with QuickTime. However, when I use QuickTime Screen Capture and submit the material via Podcast Capture the images look okay.
I ahev ensured that before I share the podcast from GarageBand, that I have selected the best quality for audio and maximum resolution (image size) for the thumbnails.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get better image quality to iTunesU?
    Thanks

    Hello again
I have managed to change some quality related code responsible for generating different diagram in EPF.
Below you can see that now EPF is generating less compressed jpegs and some anti-aliasing is added to (I purposely disabled it on the text, beacause and you can see in first post there are some issues with some letters).
If you want this in your EPF, I have attached my jar files.
Just move out the originals one (files with name starting e.g. org.eclipse.epf.authoring.ui, but timestamp will be different) from plugins/ to some folder outside eclipse, and put my ones in the plugins folder.
    I include MD5 checksums:

  • How to configure an image to specific parameters.  Needed: no more than 1200 pixels on long side   jpeg format   no less than 5 mb.  Image will be viewed on large standup screen.(original image is 22 mb)

I often have requests for images to be sent within certain parameters:  such as "no longer than 1200 pixels on longest side + jpeg format + file size no less than 5 mb."  Images will be viewed on a large stand up screen.  My original image sizes are usually around 22 mb.  When I use Export and specify 1200 pixels (quality setting is all the way over to 12), Save the file to a folder on the desktop, and then open the image in Preview, Inspector shows that the file size is now 233 KB.  How do I meet all specifications without reducing the image size so drastically?
    Thank you.

. Pardon, it reduced it down to 833 KB, not 233 (I mixed it up with another image) from the Original image of 22 MB, RAW.  Should it reduce it down that much??
That will depend on the amount of of detail in your jpeg. Given a certain pixels size and level of quality, a jpeg with many details will require a larger filesize than a jpeg with large plain regions of constant color.
Is 833 KB a big enough file size to view on a big screen?
The file size is really unimportant for the quality. What will count is the pixel size and jpeg quality you set. What is the pixel size of the large screen? That should match the pixel size you are using in your export preset. 1200 longest dimension is extremely unlikely for a large screen. Even the 17" display of my MacBook Pro has a larger pixelsize of 1920x1200.
I am sharing William Lloyd's doubts, that the specifications you were given are correct.  I'd try to export with a larger pixelsize and a high jpeg quality - perhaps 10.
If you export with 10 Megapixel  and a good jpeg quality, you will probably get a 5MB file, not that the size should matter.

  • Mac Mini display is too large for screen on only one user account

Okay, so I left my two year olds alone for a minute playing the "alphabet game" on my Mac Mini. They only had the keyboard, no mouse but managed to muck up my display leaving me a bit frustrated.  The screen is now too large for my Samsung display. The only way to see everything (dock, top bar, etc) is to move my mouse arrow to the end of my display and see it roll back onto the page.  I've checked the settings there and they are fine. The MacBook Pro plugs right in and is proper resolution. So I then wondered if another account on the Mac Mini would do the same thing. I logged out of my Admin account and into another and everything looks just dandy. I log back into my Admin account and it's too large and blurry again. The resolution is set correct at 1920x1080 at 60 Hz.
What button did they push on my keyboard that would do this and how do I get it back?? Aargh! Thanks all!

Ha, figured it out myself from another discussion forum finally. Thoght I'd share in case anyone else runs into this. They must have hit "Zoom" by htting the "Control" and scroll buttons at the same time..
    Resolution:
You can zoom out by holding down the Option and Command buttons on the keyboard and, while you hold them down, pressing the - key.

  • Poor sound quality on podcasts after upgrading to leopard

I upgraded my Powerbook G4 to Leopard yesterday. Currently, my podcasts from Bloomberg on the Econonmy are almost uninteligible as they skipp words, have static etc. Before the update, everything worked fine. Is this a compresssion issue? What can I do to improve sound quality? Please feel free to respond directly to [email protected] thanks

Sorry to here about your problems since upgrading to Leopard, Charles.
I don't know whether there's a cause/effect relationship of one and the other going on there but you've posted on the iTunes for Windows side of these boards and although for the most part we're a pretty nice bunch of people here - if I do say so myself - generally speaking you'll be better off if you post your question over on the iTunes for Mac side.
    Good Luck.

  • OS10.3.1 a disaster! Among other things, the dsplay is too large for screen

I do not like OS 10.3 ! After my Z10 was updated to 10.3.1.1779 about a month ago, I access it because the password entry keyboard displayed for about 1/10 sec leaving a black screen.
After a device reset the device the keyboard remained visible but did not respond to touches (actually it did respond randomly to some). Finally another reset gave me a usable keyboard.
But the device always opens with an icon display about 20% too large for my screen and requires several shrink attempts before the proper size displays. Each attempt simply bounces back to the oversize state.
Unfortunately, this also happens with every app (including "Settings") opened. Yesterday, I couldn't return to the main of Settings because the sub-page wouldn't shrink to expose the "<' button - a close and re-open was the only way to get back to the main page.
Other points I hate about the OS: I've noticed my active wallpaper (not custom but from 10.2) is not listed in the the new 10.3 wallpaper list and since I don't know where its stored I can't try one of the newer ones without giving up on the present wallpaper.
The date displayed on the home screen is too faint to be read with my wallpaper. I know there are some people who think black on black is cool; they obviously have great eyesight. The new 10.3 compass is now totally useless and the new clock is not much better but is at least still usable by a change to a digital display.
I recently tried to check the time on a sunny afternoon and gave up because I couldn't make out the white lines on the black background. I find the stupidity of black on black unfathomable and in over 40 years of software development I have never seen something as wasteful of engineering time as products with poor user interfaces (i.e. black on black). Why can't these apps offer the user the ability to change the colour?
The calculator has also regressed. Again all black (cool!), though that's not the issue here. For the longest time I thought it no longer supported scientific operations until I accidentally got a lucky swipe to bring it into view.
However, the requirement of a half-dozen swipe attempts for each display change reduces this app to a space waster or only to be only useful for simple operations and units conversion. I'm going to try a reload of the OS but unfortunately that won't improve the apps.
Is this standard procedure that Blackberry destroys all (blackberry) apps of the previous version with new ones at each update and offers no way to get back or protect against such changes?

I don't understand when AR open item amount is USD 100.3, and incoming payment 101.12, The system can auto clearing by current configuration, but change the AR open item amount to USD 0.3 and change incoming payment amount to 1.12, The system alert error message "The difference is too large for clearing". The same system configuration and the same "Not assigned" value in choosing open item screen, but produce different results!
How should i change the configuration?

  • Using Keynote with Podcast Capture and Dual Screens

    Hi everyone,
We are trying to use a dual screen setup to record some Keynote presentations using Podcast Capture (i.e Dual mode, with the Keynote presentation in one screen and the presenter in the other).
The problem we are having is that when in full screen mode, Keynote takes control of both displays, thus stopping the Podcast application from being displayed. Even if we switch off the Presenter Display on the second screen, the second screen turns black.
I know we can start and stop recording with hotkeys, but we would prefer to be able to see the Capture app in one window with the presentation full screen in the other.
Perhaps this is just an oversight on Apple's part, but I'm finding it hard to believe its not possible. If anyone else has a workaround then please share.
    Thanks.

Other applications are not visible when Keynote is playing back.  Keynote takes over control of the graphics system when playing back presentations to enable Keynote to display properly.
When I play back Keynote and I want to look at a second application, I use a second Mac.

  • HT1338 Since having my Macbook Pro attached to a large display screen, everything is too large for the screen. Is there a cure please?

Today I had my Mac linked to a projector screen, and since disconnection evrything from the desk top onwards has been too large for the screen. Before that evrything was perfect. I have tried zoom buttons etc, but nothing seems to work. Any help gratefully rceived.

So it's not the Zoom feature?  Open System Preferences Universal Access pane Seeing tab.  Make sure Zoom is turned OFF.
If it's not that, then you may have the resolution set so that it is not optimal for the built-in display.  Open System Preferences Displays pane Display tab.  The optimal resolution is usually the one at the top of the list of choices.

  • Exported PDF page size too large on screen

Fairly new to InDesign ( and loving it )
I am creating a document using InDesign v5. which has a page size of 8.5 x 11 in and two pages to a spread.
When I export a page or a spread to PDF the page or spread will print fine BUT when I view this PDF on screen at 100% the size is quite a bit larger than 8.5 x 11 in
can anyone explain why and how I can view the file at 100% on screen AND at the correct printing size.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Graham

    Try this in Acrobat.
Edit > Preferences (Win) or Acrobat > Preferences (Mac). Then select Page Display > Resolution > Use System Setting
