Quality options for sound file conversions

Before purchasing this application I'd like to know more about the quality of the algorithms used for conversions such as
Dither options for bit depth conversion
Conversion of sample Rates
as well as whether LE supports 96K Hz and 192K Hz recording.

I am not 100% sure about LE, but usually it is the same basic program as Logic Pro, which can do all these things. You have 1 POW-r dithering and 2 POW-r noise shaping algorithms, and sample rates up to 192 kHz (which i won't recommend in any case, though, unless you have a bat's ears). 192kHz drains heavily on the system ressources, and you should have a very good reason to make recordings with such a high sample rate. Usually, 44.1 kHz (or 48kHz for video production) is the maximum even a well trained and critical ear will hear, and the reasons for going higher than that are of a more academical nature. But i guess you know this discussion?

Export Video but no option for sound

I would be grateful if anyone could offer any suggestions on how to fix an audio issue with exporting video from Photoshop.
I am choosing the quicktime format however the option for sound is alwas greyed out. from the animation panel I have the audio enabled and I can hear it when I play back from within Photoshop.
I am using Photoshop CS4 extended on PC Windows 7
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I understand the following -
For audio I need to choose Quicktime format
Photoshop is primarily image editing software (with video capabilities)

I do not have my CS5 Extended handy, so will go from the Premiere Pro (Adobe's video editor) side of the street. Bear with me on this, as PS-Extended might do things a bit differently.
When one is Exporting an AV file, there are two things that must be set:
Exporting both Audio & Video (in PrPro, these are done via checkboxes in the Export>General dialog screen)
Then, one must set Multiplexing * on the Export>Multiplexing dialog screen, to anything but "None." The choice is usually "DVD."
It's the Multiplexing Tab, that many miss. If set to None, then there will be two separate Export files - one for the Video stream, and one for the Audio stream.
Hope that gets you close, and sorry that I cannot open things up, and give you the exact screens and tabs in PS-Extended.

* Multiplexing is the combining of both the Audio & Video streams into a single, discrete file. Multiplexing is usually OFF by default, though in PrPro, it's a "sticky," in that it retains the last setting, so if the user wishes to make a change, they must do so manually, and that setting will then stick, until changed again. The Export of separate files for Audio & Video is most often used, when one is doing the Export to go to a DVD, or BD authoring program, like Adobe Encore. It works best with elemental streams, rather than muxed files, and especially with MPEG Audio.

Play button for sound files in the browser..?

I wonder if there's a setting (or something) in Finder so it displays a play button for sound files the same way as it does for video files?

I get two-sided option for normal printing, but
I can't get duplex print option for pdf files using Adobe ReaderXI 11.0.04, Mac 10.8.5 with HP Officejet Pro 8600. HP says it's an Adobe problem. I'm stuck.

It depends where the pdf is located. If in the Finder or in an attachment to
an email in Entourage, the message is ³You can¹t open the application
³Acrobat Reader 5.0² because PowerPC applications are no longer supported².
If an attachment in an email that has come via Safari, the message is
³Safari can¹t open the file because no available applications can open it².
In each case the menu bar is Finder or Entourage or Safari as the case may
be.

Best export option for Sound Designer

Hi everyone,
I am working on a new short film and I am working with a Sound Designer and composer. We want to create a 5.1 mix for the film (which I have never done before). So I am trying to figure out what would be the best export option for him to work with to make his life easier.
Providing him with just a ProRes export won't help him match up to my cuts in the time line since he doesn't use FCP X. So my thought is that we will have matching files and folder structure for both video and audio before I start editing. But what I am not understanding is once I have a complete rough cut, how do I get him a cut list so that he can totally match up my cuts with the same audio files on his system?

First off, the titling style is not ideal for DV (or DVD). That is, your font should be a bit fatter (or, at least, bold) and perhaps 1-2 point sizes larger. (This is all because the DV codec makes titles look like s--t if the font size is small and narrow)
Also, for your LiveType files, make sure FCP is interpreting your alpha channel correctly. For every LiveType file placed in your timeline, select it, then press Command-9 to bring up the Item Properties dialog. In the column for Alpha, make sure it says it says Black. If, for instance, it reads Straight, Control-click [right-click] on Straight, then select Black from the contextual menu. You should notice your text 'popping out' a little more. You'll have to re-render, of course.
Also, in QuickTime Player, press Command-, (that's  + comma) to bring up QT's preferences. Make sure that the box for Use High Quality Video Setting when available is checked. (In order to get this working, it's probably best to set this, then restart QT - or close, then open, all movies). With the High Quality flag always used, your titling should always look better in QT player. (That is, there is no change made to your actual file, but at least when previewing, you'll get a better idea of things)
After you've made these changes, export as you were (Current Settings) and let us know if you see any improvements.

As the “Download A Copy” button was available when the users(View Only permission) clicked a PDF file, you can try to hide the “Download A Copy” option based on user permissions.

IPhone4 Dock Connector Not Showing As Option For Sound Output

Hey All,
I'm using an iPhone 4 Dock Connector to output sound (via 3.5 mm cable) to a stereo. This has been working for over 5 months, but all of a sudden it doesn't show up as an option for output from the AirPlay button.
I tried a friend's 4S and it worked for him. I also cleaned out the pin connector area on the iPhone as there was a small amount of lint in there (from being in my pocket), but that didn't fix the problem either.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Why is there no camera calibration options for Fuji files.

I wish there were camera calibration presets that matched the in camera jpeg settings for Fuji files like there is for Nikon. (They mimic the classic Fuji films.) Why arent there?

Camera matching profiles are so far only provided for the most popular cameras. You can make your own with the DNG profile editor.

Sound file conversion

On our older Macs, we had recordings of our childrens' voices as Alert sounds. Since we moved to System X we have lost these alerts, though there are probably copies of them in the old systems - what files did pre-system X use to store the alerts - where are they stored - and can they be converted to use in system X (as well as for sentimental reasons!) ?

Welcome to the Discussions. Part of the difficulty in converting system sounds may lie in their (extremely) skeletal format: 8-bit, 22.05kHz (and 11.025kHz on the oldest Macs), mono. The first rwo of these may be serious strikes against ready conversion to other file formats, just because no current wave editor will expect such parameters.
I filched Droplet from OS 7.6.1 (22.05kHz) on a IIci, and sent it to iMacs running 10.2.8, 10.3.9 and 10.4.6. On the first two it was immediately annexed by iTunes, but Preview played it in both cases. Under Tiger, where iTunes had not previously been activated, it showed a generic blank document icon, but was still played by Preview.
On the Jaguar machine I could not import Droplet into a professional wave editor (Spark XL 2.92) as any of aiff/aff, wav, sd2, and several more. Spark consistently suggested that the file was corrupt. Even giving the file an .aiff suffix (so that QuickTime 6.5.2 grabbed it) brought the accusation that the 'EOF was unexpectedly early'.
I have no doubt that the sampling frequency can be 'doubled' with a simple algorithm, and even the 1-byte samples suitably massaged to 16-bit so that current wave editors can get hold of the files. It may cost you serious time or money, however, unless you can re-record the analogue sounds, from the Macs where the sounds are stored, with gear that will digitize to current standards.

Download options for digital file purchases

I would like to set up BC so customers can login to their account and download their digital file purchases. I'm not finding much documentation on selling digital files. Is the only way for customers to download digital file purchases the link on their email receipt or are there other option?

No Sound! No Option for Sound!!!

Okay, before this problem I was able to have sond through my macbook's internal speakers. Somehow it got disabled. this weekend I put head phones in them, but ever since I took them out my computer will not let me adjust the sound, (its disabled). when I go to system preferences>sound the digital out in port built in output has no options. Now I can only get sounds with head phones
How can I get my sound back?

No "Auto Extend" option for tablespace files in sqldeveloper 4.0

In Create Tablespace > File specification tab there is no “Auto Extend” option anymore in sql developer 4.0 (still present in 3.2). Maybe someone knows how to enable it if I missed something in configuration?

Encoder Options For *.wmv Files re Premiere Pro CS5.5

Hi,
I have a collection of *.wmv files that Premiere Pro CS5.5 refuses to open and it always generates an error message so I need to re-encode these *.wmv files into a format that Premiere Pro will import OK. I know that Premiere Pro will open *.wmv files so I think that the ones I have must have some data structures slightly out of normal. The files actually play with VLC and open with Sony Vegas so they are not corrupt.
What I hope to do is to use an encoder that will re-encode the files without any loss of video quality into another format or even into a slightly renamed *.wmv file in the hope that the re-encoded version of the *.wmv file will then be palatable to Premiere Pro.
Would anyone please be able to recommend an encoder that is suitable for my needs? On a final point, as a total novice with video, what aspects on re-encoding would cause loss of video quality or is there no loss of quality when re-encoding? Apologies for such a dumb question but I really am a newbie to all this.

If you can get the files open with Vegas, you could probably export them using Lagarith Lossless Video Codec or Ut Video Codec Suite, both of which are lossless AVI codecs that work nicely with Premiere Pro. PPro needs the 64-bit version, but I don't know enough about Vegas to know if you need 32-bit or 64-bit, so just install both. Note that the files will be much larger, but will not suffer any perceptible quality hit.
I'm not sure of any way to do a WMV rewrap--I'll see what I can find.

Where on Nano is option for "sound check"

I have a brand new Nano, 3rd generation, 8GB and want to use the "Sound Check" option described in the manual.
I checked this option in Itunes, under Preferences> Playback to automatically adjust playback volume to the same level. The manual indicates this must also be done on the Ipod. I can't find the menu option on the Nano.
I've looked under Settings and these are my choices: About - Shuffle - Repeat - Main Menu - Volume Limit - Backlight - Audio books. I tried "Volume Limit" but that only is for "locking" the volume, not adjusting each song.
Any ideas?

1)- Turn on the iPod
2)- Scroll down & select "Settings"
3)- Scroll down to "Sound Check" & click on it
