Safe boot runs fsck as part of the process, which is one of the reasons it takes a little longer. The Unix fsck routine is essentially the disk repair routine that Disk Utility runs and if it fixed the disc directory errors, then good.
Is Quark crashing on open or are you getting a kernel panic? It looks like you have some excerpts from the crash log in your original post, so I am guessing crash on open. There may be a damaged file in the Quark world or more likely a corrupt cache file somewhere.
You might look in /Users/yourshort_username/Library/Caches to see if there is a Quark cache folder and just trash it and try again for a start.
If that doesn't work, then you might try Applejack at http://sourceforge.net/projects/applejack/ and let it clean out things a little more thoroughly.

Macbook won't start up and the screen stays blank but the light is on...
So one day randomly my macbook screen turned blank but he white light stayed lit up entirely. I tried moving the mouse around but the screen remained blank. I've tried to shut the macbook off and turn it on again and the white light goes off and on when I do that but the screen remains blank and the start up chime is not heard.
I've tried every single solution on the apple troubleshooting except trying to start up from disc because I can't put the restore disc in because the disc drive will not bring the disc in. I am not under warranty anymore and I need help desperately if anyone can help me out here. I can provide more details if neccessary.chubster88 wrote:

Try to also press cmd+v while booting the system, it will print out whatever it's doing on the screen if it boots successfully past its POST. If not, then I think there's a motherboard (also called a logic board by Apple) issue.
It doesn't really sound like a hard drive failure since the hard drive failure will result in a ? logo.
Have you also tried to reset your PRAM?

My Ipad won't start up. The apple logo appears and just stays on the screen. after a while it starts blinking every minute
Try recovery mode as described here.
Note you may have to try to enter recovery mode more than one time to succeed.

my Mac won't start up and Im using DiscWarrior. When I restart the computer with "c" down, the screen goes black. Is this ok? Do I just wait it out?
Have you just tried repairing with Disk Utility?
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu. -
Won't start up and has pattern on screen
Mac Pro running 10.6.8 won't start up and stalls out with just a funky pattern on a white screen. I have been able to do a Safe Boot and have run permissions tests/fixes but it still won't restart properly afterwards... arrggggh
Clone it to another drive, in part to NOT use the old system for now, and weed out any and all 3rd party background drivers extensions and processes. Or do a clean install, install as much as possible from original master copies/installers.
And move all the data and media to another drive. All but your home folder library so your boot drive is only the system and apps and that small 3GB user data. -
My iPad3 has suddenly stopped working, it won't charge up and the screen is blank I have tried to reboot the device by holding the top and home buttons but I don't even get the Apple logo. any advice?
Plug it into the charger/wall socket and let it charge for at least an hour. It just might start charging. If you have already tried charging it for a fair amount of time and it didn't work, try restoring the device with iTunes.

The CRT won't come on and the computer won't turn off. ???
Hi all,
I just got another free Rev. A iMac CRT today - it was in an old, abandoned school and the people who were moving everything out of the school thought it was dead, so they gave it to me. I tried starting it up, and it wouldn't turn on. When I took off the back to see if it had any good parts in it, it turned out everything was unplugged in the back, so I plugged it all back it. It worked great, I was deleting the school's files and apps so I could sell it, until a few minutes ago when I tried to wake it up from sleep. The display just wouldn't come on. I though it just wasn't waking up. I tried typing on the keyboard and clicking the mouse, and I finally pressed the power button on the keyboard, when I heard the normal beep it makes when you press the power button on the keyboard and it gives you the dialogue box "Do you wanna turn it off, restart it, etc?" I thought, "this is weird, why isn't the display on?" So I pressed the enter key, figuring that Turn Off was the option selected and that the display would come on when I turned it back on. Sure nuff, the computer turned off. I waited a few seconds and turned it back on. The display still wouldn't come on. I waited a few minutes til I was sure it was all the way booted up. It won't respond to the keyboard, the mouse, repeated jabs in the reset button on the side, or the power buttons on both the unit and the keyboard. I held down the power button for an entire minute and the display won't turn on and the computer won't turn off.
This is totally bizzare. Does anyone know how to a) turn on the display or b) turn off the computer? It's looking like I'm going to have to unplug it and try again later.
By the way, it's running 9.2.2, like the one in my signature line.I finally pulled the plug and restarted and it's working fine now. Does anyone know what happened? I think it could've had something to do with the PRAM battery; every time I've started it up it's said the date is January 1956 and the time is 9:55. hmmm...
Edit: I just realized that in addition to the date being 1956, the hard drive was completely randomly renamed to "k hortdpc." ***???
Another edit: I just realized I probably renamed the hard drive in my frantic random clicking and typing - I probably accidentally clicked the hard drive name and randomly typed a new name in my attempts to wake up the computer. oops -
Songs in "MUSIC" on my iPhone 4s won't start after tapping the PLAY icon.
Songs in MUSIC on my iPhone 4S won't start after tapping the START icon.
Make sure that is completely dried out. You can put it in a bowl of dry rice to ensure this. Otherwise its likely that the water damage ruiend a comonent. Try letting it dry, and if not take the product into apple. Unless you know how to take phone apart safely and look at the internal components.

My computer won't start up past the gray screen
My computer won't start up past the gray screen and then shows up with the forbidden sign where the apple logo should be. I have tried booting in safe mode and PRAM and neither works. Any suggestions on what I should do next? Or any idease of what might be wrong?
I had the same problem, I believe it is called a kernal panic. They had to replace my hard drive. I did have apple care or it would have cost $450. The guy at the genius bar did some tests to see if he could fix it, he couldn't, so I had to have the hard drive replaced.

I dropped my iPhone 4S in the toilet. I dried it and shook out as much water as I could. I removed the SD card and put everything in a bowl of rice. It is still in there and everything appears to be working normally, but it won't shut off and the camera light stays on. I've tried the restart thing where you press and hold the pwr button and the home button. What should I do?
