Quarter bridge for 9237

How do I select quarter bridge completion settings for 9237 with 9944?
Message Edited by Frederico Barros on 09-28-2007 09:02 AM

The 9237 is capable of full and half bridge measurements without addition equipment. In order to take quarter bridge measurements with the 9237 you need a quarterbridge completion resistor component (like the ni 9944). This turns your quarterbridge configuration into half bridge, which the 9237 can do. You will need one of these completion components for each of your strain gauges.

  • How to connect 2-wire strain gage to NI 9237 by quarter bridge

I have a Strain Gage: KYOWA KFG-20-120-C1-11 (2 wire) http://www.kyowa-ei.co.jp/english/products/gages/pdf/kfg-01.pdf, NI 9237 on a Compact DAQ (cDAQ 9174) and RJ-50 (10-pin modular plug to pigtail wires).
    Strain Gage features:
    Gage Factor: 2.08 +/- 1.0%
    Gage Resistance: 120.2 +/- 0.2 Ohms
I'd like to connect them to measure the strain with quarter bridge configuration but I have some doubts about which line goes to which terminal.
    Thanks.

You can find the manual for the NI 9237 module here
It's a good idea to buy an NI 9944 or NI 9945 Quarter Bridge Completion Accessory if you're planning on using this module with a quarter bridge configuration, but  you can look at the following diagrams to see what kind of internal connections are implemented: Connecting Strain Gauges and Shunt Resistors to the NI 9237
PS Posting in the DAQ or signal conditioning forums instead of Labview may get you better/faster answers.

  • Selecting bridge type for 9237 module on cRIO

How do you select 1/2 or Full bridge completion and Shunt settings for 9237 Bridge module on cRIO? The getting started example only seems to set the data rate?. The FPGA Property Node only has Data Rate, Excitation, and ID params available as choices? Am using 8.2.1. Other discussion threads talk about configuring with MAX but for cRIO/8.2.1 MAX doesn't show modules, just the remote system top level.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,
The Half vs Full Bridge as well as the Excitation Voltage settings live in the properties page for the NI 9237 module in the LV Project (right-click module item>>Properties). See attached image.

  • Correct Choice of the QUARTER Bridge Type

    Hello,
We have to measure 80x SG (strain gauge) channels with 20x NI-9237 modules in 3x cDAQ-9188 chassis. The CEng guy wants to use a passive SG for temperature compensation in all channels (although not needed because we use self compensating SGs in their temperature range). So he will glue the active SGs on the tested model, and he will glue the passive SGs on pieces of same material AWAY FROM THE MODEL - NO THERMAL CONTACT WITH THE MODEL!
This configuration for me is QUARTER Bridge Type 1 since the passive SGs (dummies) are just resistors unaffected by the seismic activities on the model.
However, he insists on Type 2 guided by its definition ("Strain Gauge Configuration Types" Tutorial) which sounds like his comprehension of his bridge. I stay with Type 1 because the dummies are not in a close contact to the tested model - I see them just as bridge completion resistors.
Can someone with expertise in SG conditioning and measurements help in solving this dilemma?
    Thanks in advance,

OK, let me paraphraze my questions.
    1. RemoteSensing
NI-9237 documentation says RemoteSensing is meant for HALF and FULL bridges, and for QUARTERs we should use shunt calibration. Since I plan to use Q2 which is not a HALF bridge will RemoteSensing be performed by the NI-9237 or not? If NOT, will measuring lead resistance do the job instead? I find it very awkward that this crucial info is missing from the NI-9237 documentation!
    2. Brdge balancing
NI-9237 documentation says this module needs to know the "initial voltage" measured on disconnected ETERNAL part of the bridge to compensate for offset. I have used the "DAQmx Perform Bridge Offset Nulling Calibration.VI" to balance all my bridges in COMPLETED status prior to any acquisition. Is this doing the job so I do not have to measure the "initial voltages"?
The tasks of interest are the 3x cDAQ. The PXI task needs some IEPE current sources to be switched on for 60sec prior to the acquisition so that the PCB accelerometers can be initialized.
    Thanks in advance,

  • SCXI 1520 quarter bridge setup will not output excitation voltage, but full bridge will

My SCXI system will not output an excitation voltage to the quarter bridge(verified with voltmeter). It works for a full bridge setup. When connected to a 'quarter bridge I' configuration, I can use MAX to null and shunt calibrate. The quarter bridge circuit appears to be balanced after the calibration, but the calibration results post a software gain factor close to zero, as well as a close to zero excitation voltage (eventhough I have the voltage configured for 5 volts). I have the SCXI 1520 module, the virtual channels, and the wiring properly configured (several years experience with this device). I'm using an old E series DAQ card AI-16XE-50, with the 50 pin cable that plugs in the back of the SCXI chassis. I noticed I had two bent pins with the cable connector module that plugs into the SCXI backplane.  I was able to straighten them, so the cable connects properly, but I suspect the bent pin incident caused electrical circuit damage. Any suggestions on trouble shooting? None of the three 1520 modules I have will output an excitation voltage for a quarter bridge.

Sorry that I don't have an answer for you tyea, but I'm interested in your thread because I have a similar issue with a 1520. My excitation votltage, as measured with a DVM, is always 1V. I've tried 0V, 1V, 5V --- it's always 1V, on Full or Quarter bridge. I'm using a similar DAQ to yours - a PCI 16XE-10 (and a PCI-6030E on antother system).
I don't have a lot of experience with these modules. This could be a wiring or programmatic thing I'm doing wrong.

  • How do I wire my SCXI-1520 quarter bridge completion in parallel?

I have a quarter bridge set-up using the qtr completion in the system. In parallel with my strain gauge I'd like to have another resistor. I'm using the strain gauge as a dummy, and am interested in the current traveling in a parallel path through a film resistor as I change the film thickness. However, I'm not convinced that what I've wired has the strain gauge and other resistor in parallel. I have the strain gauge wired to: P+, QTR, S+ and the other gauge wired to QTR, S+.
    Thanks!

    Greetings,
You will want to wire the other gauge between P+ and QTR or between P+ and S+. To make this decision, you will need to determine how the lead resistances will affect your measurement. Page 2-4 of the SCXI-1520 User Manual (link available below) contains the wiring diagram for Quarter-Bridge Configuration I.

    Good luck with your application.

  • How do I connect 16 strain gauges in quarter bridge arrangement to a SCXI 1322 connecter block?

Specifically, do I connect 4 bridge completion resistors to each VEX- channel or do I need to wire them together somehow first?

I have attached a bitmap image that explains how to wire a quarter-bridge strain gauge to the SCXI-1122 (with 1322 terminal block.) The 1122 only provides half-bridge completion, so you have to wire an extra resistor into the circuit to complete the bridge.
You can find this image in the SCXI-1122 User Manual, which is available for download at:

  • Help for using camera raw in PSE 8/Bridge for Mac for the Canon 7D

Recently purchasing the Canon 7D, taking a few test photos in Raw, then trying to use Camera Raw in PSE8/Bridge for Mac is a problem.  I cannot figure it out.  Can anyone help this frustrated, novice computer user?

You need to update the camera raw plug-in for bridge and PSE 8 separately (they use two different copies). In Bridge, just go to Help>Updates which will install, I think, ACR 5.7, which  works with your camera. (You can't update bridge beyond that version).
For PSE 8, go here, download the latest version and follow the instructions in the readme file.
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=40&platform=Macintosh
Note that the directions may tell you that you can overwrite the old plug-in. That isn't true--you must remove it before putting the new one in there.

  • Setting up Bridge for multiple users on a network

    New Bridge user here
Can anyone give me some advice on how to set up Bridge for use by multiple users over a network / server?
We have a large image bank stored on a server and ideally if any one user adds keywords or other metadata to an image I would like the rest of the users to be able to view that data and be able to use it in searches. AS more than one user could add keywords at any time I was wondering is it possible to set up a central keyword file or cache so any updates are available to all users.
Do I set up a shared cache? What happens if it becomes corrupted and has to be rebuilt, do the keywords disappear as well?
Are the keywords associated with that particular cache or are they stored in a separate file?
    Thanks,
    Hazel

    Curt
how do you know if your using the
Central cache all distributed cache ?
and are they both stored in the same place ?

  • Unable to perform update with Sony Bridge for Mac

I have not been able to update my Xperia Z1 (model C6906) through Sony Bridge for Mac.
While attempting this in SBM version 3.5 the following messages would appear:
There was an issue with the update engine. Please contact technical support. (reason:failed to start local server)
    then:
There was an issue with the update engine. Please contact technical support. (reason:failed to parse installer XML(code 11))
SBM has now updated to version 3.6(3602) and still no luck. The software is able to download the update engine but then remains stuck in the initializing phase, talking to update engine.
My phone is at build# 14.1.G.2.257. The proposed update seems minor, as the build # doesn't change but it would be great to have this issue resolved in time for kitkat 4.4
There doesn't appear to be a problem with the phone as the staff at the Sony Store were able to perform my initial out of the box update with PC Companion.
My Mac is running  OS10.9 and the java version is 1.6.0_65
Any advice would be much appreciated

In the mean time it would be worth updating the version of java you are running on your MAC:

  • Using libraries vs. Bridge for graphics in placeholder frames

    Hi,
I do not understand the advantanges of using libraries vs. Bridge for my purpose:
    Purpose:
I am working with templates using graphic placeholder frames. The frames are anchored in table cells and have object styles applied defining e.g. the placement of the graphic within the graphic frame.
I want to set up central graphic library for all graphics used in all my documents.
The graphics should then be linked into the documents
    Idea:
set up various InDesign libraries and then drag the graphics into the placeholder frames. Then, when the graphic needs to be changed, do the changes in the library and have all my documents updated at once.
    Problem:
Dragging graphics from the library into the placeholder frames does not seem to work. They are simply placed onto the page and NOT in the graphic frame. On the other hand when I simply store the graphics in various subdirectories in my file system and drag the graphics onto the page using Adobe Bridge, they ARE placed in the graphic placeholder frames.
The library therefore seems a disadvantage, so why should I use a library instead of the Bridge?
Also, will be upgrading to CS5 soon an want to use the live-linking caption feature. Should I use libraries or the Bridge approach?
    Stumped on this issue

I like the idea with the snippet, but when dragging a snippet from Bridge there is still the same problem as with the library item: The graphic is NOT placed into the graphic placeholder frame of my template but is a free-flowing new graphic item which has to be placed manually.
Interestingly, a JPG-file simply saved in the filesystem and dragged from Bridge and dropped over the placeholder frame WILL place the JPG into the frame!
    Why won't snippets do this??

  • Problems with Bridge for Mac 3.7

I've been using Bridge for Mac for a while without any problems, but since it downloaded the 3.7 update it won't recognize my phone. When I connect, it thinks for a few seconds, then says it cannot connect. I've tried deleting and redownloading the app, and deleting any relevant system files I can find. If I connect it in Windows with the same cable and through the same USB port, PC Companion recognizes it no problem. Any idea what's going on here?

    Hi mcilwr01,
I'm sorry Bridge isn't working for you, and I understand you're upset.
Could you please send me error logs that I can forward to the development crew? Otherwise it's near impossible to tell what's causing your problems.
Here’s how to get error logs from Sony Bridge for Mac:
    1. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Clear logs" to remove all old logs and get a clean start
    2. Reproduce the problem you're having, whether it's connecting the phone, importing photos, doing backup...
    3. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Export logs"
    4. On the computers desktop there should now be a file named "SonyBridgeForMacLogs_[date].zip
    5. PM that file to me or post the contents here
We are working on solving the problems of 3.7 as fast as possible, I apologize for not having a solution for you right now.
    Best Regards,
    David
