"Quarter moons" in each corner of computer screen

I have a MacBookPro and an iMac that I try to maintain with similar configurations and applications, however; I am at a loss with a "problem" that has appeared on my laptop.
In each corner of the screen are what I would describe as "quarter moons" or quarter circles. I have searched my Preferences high and low and cannot find a way to remove them or find a use for them. In addition, and I am not sure if this is related, but all around the edge of the visible screen is a very thin black frame about 1/8" wide. If it is of any help in trying to resolve this conundrum, I do have Teleport installed on both computers, but I can't see where there is a relation between this application and the problem at hand.
Only one other aspect that may be related is that I have on occasion used the laptop with a projector, but again I don't see the connection as to why I have these quarter moons in each corner or the this frame around the visible screen.
I feel fairly confident that the issue is related to some start-up item in my folder, but I have tried removing or turning off as many as I can. If I restart the computer in a virgin mode, the quarter moons are not present.
I have a screen shot of one corner on my screen that I can send to anyone who wishes to see what the quarter moons looks like.

Actually, if you are referring to what I think you are referring to, that is a hidden feature that has been present for some time and can be enabled from the command line. The feature can also be enabled using various third-party utilities. I personally dislike such software because they make changes that persist even after they are uninstalled.
To turn the feature off, try opening "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering these commands:<pre>
defaults delete com.apple.dock wvous-showcorners
osascript -e 'tell application "Dock" to quit'</pre>
As you might guess, the command makes visible the size and locations of the "hot corners" that can be programmed to activate "Exposé", the screensaver, etc.

On the top left of my computer screen there are what look like the bottom half of small grey and white squares stacked on top of each other. They form a line about three inches horizontally along the top and they cover half of the regualr bar (so half of the apple sign int he corner is covered) and I cant seem to get rid of them.  Is my hardrive crashing or being hacked?

I have never seen DEVELOP on the menu bar for Safari, hence my query regarding testing.
What OS are you using and what version of Safari?
If you want to check your HDD, Open Disk Utilities>First Aid and run Verify and Repair.
The only remedy that I can think of that may work is an OS reinstall.
I seriously doubt that your MBP is being hacked.
    Ciao.

  • When I open an email, my computer won't go to the link listed, or when I am doing research the same thing, then I see a ALLOW in the upper right hand corner of the screen and I have to click on that. What happened and how do I fix this?

Somehow my settings have changed. When I open an email and there is a link, my computer won't allow it, also when I am doing a search, my computer won't allow certain links to open.
What I see is "ALLOW" in the upper right hand corner of the screen, and I have to click on that in order to continue my email or do a search. How did this suddenly happen and how do I change it back to being able to roam the Internet without having to click on ALLOW all the time?
Also, I set up Google as my home page, but it won't list Email or any other options. I have to type in Google in the Google box, then Email appears. How do I get the right Google set up as my home page so I can access Email without jumping through hoops.
Thanking you so much for your time and consideration.
    Sincerely,

  • Why is my computer showing a picture of the key I push (shift, command, etc.) in the top right hand corner of the screen??

Every time I press the shift key, command key, option key, control key, or function key it shows it's symbol in the top right hand corner of the screen. It also locks in shift until I press shift again. Please help me get this off of my computer, it's driving me crazy!!

Launch the System Preferences application. Open the Universal Access preference pane. Select the Keyboard tab. Disable the "Sticky Keys" option. Close System Preferences.

  • IPhone 5 sleep button not working but theres a tiny crack in the corner of the screen, about a quarter of an inch.

I started to notice that my sleep button started to not respond like normal. I would have to push it more and more times for my phone to turn off. Only the left part of the sleep button works. I have read a bunch of forums about this and people have been saying they got the phone exchanged no questions asked. I am wondering, since there is a tiny crack in the corner of the phone, will Apple turn down my phone and make me pay $49.99 since I have Apple Care. The sleep button started to not work before the corner of the screen got cracked. Bad luck I guess. What should I try to do ?

As I mentioned, someone else's personal experience may not be duplicated. It all boils down to what the particular Genius has to say at the date and time that you show up. The worse they can say is they will not replace the phone under warranty and you would be offered an OOW replacement. If you have Apple Care +, it would be a $50 deductible, where the OOW replacement cost for the iPhone 5 in the US is $229.

  • In the lower right hand corner of the screen, how do I stop the download window from poping up each time I download something?

In the lower right hand corner of my screen, everytime I download, a download window pops up, that scans what I downloaded for a virus then gives me a message that says download is complete. How do I disable that feature?.

To turn off the alert you can change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.download.manager.showAlertOnComplete''' and double-click on it to change its value to '''false'''
    # If you want to stop Firefox requesting a virus scan, double click on the preference '''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone''' to change its value to '''false'''

I Just updated my iPhone 4 to 7.1 oS. I am unable to connet to any network. I keep getting the "searching" No Service" messages on the top let corner of the screen. I also get a notice that says " "Unable to load network list. I need help... How can one resolve this issue?

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • Under Windows 7, 64-bit, Firefox intermittently will not open a new window - all I get is a grey screen, with a tiny part of my homepage displayed in the top left corner of the screen.

The problem began after a recent Firefox update. Occasionally, when I try to open a new Firefox window, all I get is a grey screen with a tiny section of my homepage visible in the top left corner of the screen. NOTE: Firefox stores all of these aborted attempts, as, whenever I close it and then re-open it, the first time I open a new window it automatically opens all of the windows that had originally failed to open.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == on or about June 26, 2010

Got the exact same problem aswell, finally fed up with it now as i just started up firefox and 14 new windows opened because of this bug, luckily my computer can handle them but someone with a slower processor it would have been a nightmare, needs fixing ASAP.

  • FF 7.0.1 on Mac OSX 10.6.8: I sometimes get the "unresponsive script" dialog box in the top left corner of the screen, so far out that I can see only the bottom right corner of the dialog box. Is there any way of re-centring it?

FF 7.0.1 on MacOSX 10.6.8 (not this machine!): I sometimes get the "unresponsive script" dialog box jammed into the top left corner of the screen so that only a quarter of it is visible.
Is there a way of re-centring the dialog box (in particular, when its top edge is off the screen)?
    Thanks!

There is no way to preserve view preferences.Just remember or annotate the zoom % used in the package.
You may want to open an MS Connect item asking to add such a feature.
I can tell you it may not be implemented because a package may be opened on different size monitors.

  • HT4279 I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

I have a Macbook Pro (late 2012) and I would like to connect it to 2 screens simultaneously (1 screen is a TV and can only take HDMI, the other is a larger computer screen and has both VGA and HDMI connections). How can I do this?

The article you cited refers to The Mac Pro, a 50lb silver tower -- not a notebook computer.
    Everymac.com says:
    2nd Display Support:
    Dual/Mirroring*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    2560x1600 (x2*)
    Details:
*This model supports a simultaneous maximum resolution up to 2560x1600 on two external displays via Thunderbolt. Alternately, it can support a single display up to 2560x1600 via Thunderbolt and a single display up to 1920x1200 via HDMI. Although it can theoretically power all three external displays, as confirmed by a helpful reader, it runs too hot with three displays connected.
Also see: How many external displays can the Retina Display MacBook Pro models support? What is the maximum supported resolution of each? Are adapters required?
When using other than ThunderBolt displays, the ThunderBolt port is directly compatible with Mini DisplayPort, and can be forced into compatibility (with Single-Link DVI or HDMI up to 1920 wide) with a simple adapter.
To adapt to wider displays, an ACTIVE Dual-Link adapter is needed, about US$100.

  • Programs will not open. The button in the lower left corner of the screen continuously blinks.

Whenever I open Firefox on my other laptop I cannot get into any programs. The icon in the lower left corner of the screen that lets you know when a program has completed loading just blinks constantly.

  • Computer Screen

Um...yeah, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I'm too tired and computerly challenged to go through all the forum pages. My question is thus:
How does one clean the computer screen to a Macbook?

I simply use a lint-free cloth (meant for cleaning glasses) and lightly wet the corner (to get off the difficult spots). I run it over the screen gently until all the spots are gone, then, with a dry lint-free cloth, I dry it. Works for me!
    Hope this helps.

  • Connecting iphone makes computer screen go blank

I've had my iPhone for a few months. Initial syncing worked fine. As soon as I tried to sync it a second time with upgrades, new messages, new apps etc already on the iPhone, it didn't acknowledge the iPhone in iTunes, and made the computer screen go black. It does this every time I connect the iPhone.
Went to an Apple sales place, who restored the phone to factory settings, went home, synced fine. Again, next time I tried with all new stuff on the phone already, blank screen.
Weird thing is, my iPod touch works fine on both this and another computer. iPhone has this issue on one computer (where all my photos and other stuff is) but not the other. It's almost like my Toshiba computer and iPhone hate each other!
Any ideas on how to fix this? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, and also stopping and restarting the ADMS(?)....

    Hello mcroland,
What make / model computer are we working with? What operating system?
Anytime I hear of a computer screen going blank after running for an extended period of time my first thought is going to be heat.
Open up your system and check it and ensure all fans are working properly and it is cleaned out. Remove all dust bunnies and thoroughly clean the inside of the computer with compressed air.
Especially check any fans that may be located on or around the video card.

  • Wht does my computer screen keeps going dark?

Why does my computer screen keep going dark?

Good. This means that, in your existing account, a setting is bad or .plist file is corrupt. As identifying the rascal may take time, my suggestion is to move data to the new account, must be with administrative privileges. As the contents of each account is unavailable to the other, there are two methods:
    - if you have a backup on an external disk, as you should (if not, consider this seriously, do not count on good behavior of hard disks), make a last backup on the existing account, and restore in the other account; when ready, delete the old (buggy) account
    - if not, save your settings unto a flash drive; this is a limited backup just to avoid putting back settings for Mail etc. I am satisfied with iBackup (grapefruit.ch), but there are other backup utilitites, Time Machine, for example; TM does not allow limited backup, it works if you have a large external disk. If backup disk is not available, move files to shared folder, which is visibile from both accounts, and from there to the new account.
May seem difficult, in fact it is not. You must just move data from one account to another. Now, take care to new apps you install or new functions you activate. When you notice something strange, that may be the cause of this behavior.
