Quarter screen for games on N80

Downloaded a few games onto nokia N80 and they're all installing ok, but on loading they're coming up in just the top left quarter of the screen?
Is this cause games aren't specifically designed for smart phones? Have I got the wrong setting somewhere?
Cheers

It would be nice if Nokia would offer a Zoom option for the display to solve this problem.
no, this means they were not developed for th N80. its a compatibility issue.
Yet it seems silly to me that which each new phone model every single app or game would have to be reworked. I think the games work, but were IMO programmed using absolute coordinates and pixels, and therefore unscalable.
I could be wrong of course though. ;-)

    I've just had my new 5900XT arrive and my problem is I can't play any games.
    When I start any game, I can hear the sound but the screen goes (and stays blank).

    Yea boozer, as Richard says, the hardest (and best teaching btw) problems are the multi problematic issues that you face in some systems...they frustrate the heck outta ya but you learn so much from them that you'll see other problems posted from users, after you've fixed yours of course, and your fingers won't move fast enuff to type the answer...
    Multi issues are a pain but you are making headway here...the fact that you don't have other "gold board" components at your disposal is really a major hinderance to you, as well as many other users out there, and can/will make it more painful to fix the problem that you're having...
    Motherboard, Memory, CPU, Video Card (current release parts that are close matches or exact matches) that are known good (maybe get a friend of yours to help you out here with his/her system?) are what you need to troubleshoot to the extent needed here...swap one component at a time and keep good records of what you see happening, meaning write it down!!! Building a testbed is quite easy using a large piece of plywood and makes swapping parts in and out quite easy...alternatively I've seen ppl cut up an old ATX case and mount it on wood the same way keeping the MB mounting back, CDROM mount housing, 3.5" housing intact and mounting it all to wood...I really recommend this for anyone who takes on the task of building their own units these days as troubleshooting has become the "norm" cause of compatibility issues, driver issues, PSU issues, etc...there are many other reasons to list but these are the main ones I come up against these days...
    When I had my computer store, much like Richard, I used that test bed prior to actually building my system into a case to ensure that all of my components played in the sandbox well together allowing me to return what didn't initially play well and I also kept a good supply of "known good components" or "gold boards" on hand in order to ensure that new parts were'nt DOA or damaged...I also recommend highly getting some kind of Electrostatic Discharge covering for your bench that includes a wrist strap snap and then making absolutely sure that it's grounded properly to a waterpipe in the house/garage/office. Then and only then would I handle your components...
    Yes this seems quite extensive for the occasional builder, and is really, but this is the only way to ensure that you aren't zapping yourself into pain and frustration...believe me when I say this, I had sooo many customers try to return products to me that I pretested on my bench, showed them they worked, and they took them home and zapped them dead or dying by building their system on a carpeted floor with no grounding of themselves...You can seriously damage a part and not totally kill it dead and it'll work but it won't work properly and will lead you down many misleading roads making you think another part is bad when it really isn't...
    Sorry for the dissertation but I'm hopeful that others will read this as well and learn from it...
    Good luck on your issue!!

  • Are there any free screen recorders for games

    Dont say use quicktime because it *****. I would really like to know if anyone knows of a free screen recorder that is really good for games.

    There are several free trials.  ScreenFlow, Camtasia, Snapz Pro x.   But just so you know, most programs run through quicktime.   You can only record in 1440x900 as a max for mac at the moment. I have retina display and i'm looking for something to record in 2880x1800. So for now mac is limited to 720p. I tried Quicktime first and thought it was ****.. but after using every other program, they are all the same.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGTgSdn7Xfw&list=UUAli9YvbDwpiemNwAf-LXaQ&index=1 &feature=plcp
    Is a recording done by quick time of World of Warcraft.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROrWzav3-A8
    That one is done with Camtasia to record both Cam and screen. They both have the same quality, just one has a webcam. =P
    The good thing about Quicktime is it saves the file as a movie file and you can use an outside editing program. But with Camtasia and ScreenFlow you have to use their editing program or Render it and use an outside program, then render again.
    Hope this helps. =P

  • When I enter full screen for a game or video using Firefox the whole "screen" moves to the left, leaving a white space on the right side of my monitor, but the mouse still acts like the image is where it should be, why?

    I have the latest Firefix update, and I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. It's annoying, specifically for games because I have to make sure the cursor is to the right (by a certain amount) of the item I wish to click. This issue is only in Firefox, I have tried in Internet Explorer *shudder* and there is no problem, I do not have any web browsers currently installed.

  • Quarter-screen issue on iPhone 4S

    I just picked up my 4S from the store yesterday and noticed that when launching Chu Chu Rockets, the game only takes up a quarter of the screen (the bottom left corner) with one exception: the "Welcome back, $NAME" banner from Game Center does go across the entire length of the screen as if the game was showing normally in full-screen. This is the only app I have where this quarter-screen thing happens. Trying to find a solution with Google shows that this is a very common problem with jailbroken phones running iOS 5, but seeing as I haven't jailbroken my phone, their solutions are useless.
    Has this happened to anyone else with a stock, non-jailbroken 4S?

    Yes! Thank god you posted, you're the only other person I found who has the same problem.
    I, too, have a stock iPhone 4S, never jailbroken, 11 days old.
    For me, the only app that had this problem was the phone app; it occurred today. I solved the problem by closing the phone app and ending the multitask. It hasn't occurred since, but I was perplexed by it happening.
    I sure hope it isn't another bug of the iPhone 4S! :/

  • Is iMac 5K good for games !?

    Hello, I want to ask you  is the new iMac good for video games. By video games I mean games with very good graphics like Far Cry 4, GTA 5, CoD AW, Dying Light and other like them   or I should get a cheeper gaming pc? Please, answer me if you can.

    The only way to play high games with high response times on an IMac is to get an IMac with high end specs and that'll make it a very expensive gaming machine.
    You need to check the sites for the games you play for the nominal (average) hardware specs as well as the higher end hardware specs.
    None of the 21 inch screen IMacs will hack it for high end gaming as their GPUs top out at 1 GB VRAM and the i7 CPUs are NOT the fastest available.
    The only 5K retina iMac is the 27 inch screen model that starts at $2500 U.S.D. and the 27 inch screen models are the only models to get all of the bells and whistles needed like maybe a top of the line i7 CPU(for games the i7 CPU is really needed over the more common i5 CPUs), top of the line GPU (or  see if you can get away with the base (2 GB VRAM GPUs) and faster 7200 RPM hard drives (the 21 inch screen iMacs only come now with laptop standard 5400 RPM hard drives, now) or faster/larger Fusion or SSD/Flash based drives.
    You'll be close to the $3000 mark or more if you go with both the fastest CPU (4.0 Ghz) AND the 4 GB VRAM GPU.
    If you are trying to compare an iMac gaming machine to a cheap PC for gaming, it sounds as if to me you do not have the budget for a $2500 IMac???
    Even the non-retina 27 inch iMacs will set you back, at least $2000 U.S.D. for the higher spec'd. model.
    If you are really considering the cheap PC route (which won't be as cheap as you think for a comparable PC with good gaming hardware specs), maybe just stick to your PC for gaming.
    It seems to me that the budget is not there or realistic for a IMac with the specs you are going to need.
    Good Luck!

  • 30" Cinema for games...how is it?

    I have two 20" Apple Cinema displays on my dual G5 w/ GeForce 6800 Ultra.
    I was wondering how a single 30" is for games? I can play HALO and UT2K3/4 at high framerate at native, fullscreen 1680x1050 w/ all effects on. I doubt native 2560x1600 on the 30" Cinema could be achieved w/ same framerate.
    Can a smaller res, like 1680x1050 or so be used, centered on the screen with black space around - equivalent to the physical size of a 20" in the middle of the 30" field? Or must it be scaled out to full screen?
    Any other game comments, or comments in general? Thanks.
    blakespot

    Hi blakespot,
    in most games you can use a lower resolution and keep the other settings. Some, like 1280x1024 are 4:3 resolutions which will leave black bands on the left & right side. Just cycle through them, many are widescreen so they fill the whole 30" screen. If your computer/graphics card is fast enough you should of course run natively in 2560x1600. I was surprised that the new Enigmo2 runs very fast with all settings to highest and the native resolution. And I'm only using a G4 PowerBook! Nearly all 3D games like Quake can be set to use a widescreen resolution, even if it's not in the game's video settings. WoW looks awesome on the 30" too...

  • Sound for games doesn't work on iPad 2

    Sound works on iPad 2 for everything except games. Is there some special way to get sound for games to work?

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
    If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Iphone 3gs shows white screen for a second and reboots.

    While I play games, watch videos or do anything, the iphone displays a totally white screen for less than a second and then it reboots. After this it starts normally and then this all happens again after about 10-20 mins.
    Plz give me any suggestions to fix it. What is the problem? any hardware prob??

    Hello, noyz23il.
    I would agree that this is a unique issue.  I have attached an article that goes over basic troubleshooting that may help.  In this article, see the sections referring to display, camera and blank white screen.  If this does not resolve the issue, please see the last section regarding "issue not resolved".

    To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
    What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • An onsceen timer for game???

    Hi,
    I have to make a computer game in java3d and I'm pretty clueless, any help I could get here would be great.
    Current problem : Once the user presses a "Start" button I want a timer counting down from 5 mins. I want to timer to be on screen so the user can see it the whole time he is playing the game and when the timer is up a message appears ie GAME OVER! and the game stops running.
    Does anyone have any ideas or have done this before?? Heres some code on it I've hacked together so far.
    Thanks,
    Sean
    //create start button to start game/timer
    private Buttton go = new Button("Start");
    Panel p = new Panel( );
    p.add(go);
    add("North",p);
    go.addActionListener(this);
    go.addKeyListener(this);
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e ) {
    // start timer when button is pressed
    if (e.getSource()==go){
    //if (time timer is not running) ???
    { //start timer +display timer ???
    //when timer == 0.00 add "game over" message to screen + stop game ???

    That's how you would do it in Java2D, for sure.
    If you want to put some Java2D stuff around your canvas, this kind of thing should work fine.
    If you want to incorporate it into your 3d scene (the way most games work) you will need to find a way to write it into your Java3D scene. There are a few different ways of doing this- I have had some success by writing the text into a graphic and then using the graphic I have just created as a texture on a plane attached to my viewPlatform. I believe there is something clever you can do to write it directly onto the view instead of using geometry in the scene, but I don't recall what...

  • TS3274 Sound won't work for games

    THe sound won't work for games unless I plug In headphones. The setting shows like the sound is on.

    If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
    This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • TS3274 Getting sound for music, but not for game apps.  Checked settings and sound is on.  Any suggestions.

    My volume controls work and getting sound for music but not for game apps.  I did check settings and sound is turned on under notifications and in the app.  Any help would be appreciated

    Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
    Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via control centre : swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen and it's the right-most of the 5 icons in the middle of it (if the icon is white then it's 'on', tap it to turn it grey and 'off'). The function that isn't controlled via the side switch is controlled via control centre instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
