Quartz Compositions no longer working in Keynote

Anyone having any luck inserting movies exported from Quartz Composer or raw .qtz files?
We use a lot of that for backgrounds and effects, and in Keynote 5.0 all we get is a solid white rectangle instead of all that coolness.

OK. Just discovered something interesting.
Short version: If I set my MacBook Pro's graphics performance to "slower but more power efficient", the imported Quartz Composer clips suddenly works. If I set it to "faster but battery draining" I get the white rectangle.
Long version: I got a new MacBook Pro, with a later version of QuickTime installed (7.5.7) than the dowloadable one. This version, I guess, has support for the special switchable graphic processors in the current MacBook Pro. It now seems that with this QuickTime version, the slower graphics chip (nVidia GeForce 9400M) can play the .qtz files in Keynote 5, but the faster one (nVidia GeForce 9600M GT) can't.
But this is true only for Keynote 5. My old Keynote 4 plays them happily regardless of graphics setting.
So, to use all the graphics power of my Mac, I guess I'll need a bug fix for either Keynote or QuickTime, or both.

  • Keynote remote app no longer working with keynote for ipad

noticed after upgrading that the keynote remote does not pair with keynote for the ipad.  Any suggestion on a resolution or anyone else experiencing this issue?

I didn't realize until I went to a class to lecture in front of a couple hundred students that what worked on Friday no longer worked on Monday.  (I upgraded to iOS 5 over the weekend.)  My iPad with lecture slides was plugged in 25 feet away.  I finally recruited a student to tap the iPad screen when I needed the next slide.  A nightmare.  What is usually slick and seamless was a wreck.
Here's my deal.  My remote app works fine at home where my iPod Touch and iPad are on the same wifi network.  At school they're on different networks for some reason.  Bluetooth doesn't work anywhere.  So Apple needs to find this bug and fix it.  I can't believe whoever is responsible for this didn't test this out before they released iOS 5.  Sheesh.

  • Scheduled shutdown no longer works in Keynote 4.0 iLife 08

Those of us using Keynote, a large LED monitor and a Mac Mini as a Digital signage system have found that the new Keynote 4.0 in iLife 08 will not allow a scheduled shutdown. This worked well under the old version.
We had been on iLife 06 and 10.4.9. We found that Keynote crashes every few days when you try and run a show 24/7 so we had used the energy saver settings to have it shut down at 1AM and restart at 2AM. This was working well, the only trick was to always name the current slide show the same thing and have Keynote auto launch at startup and run the slideshow.
Last week we reimaged a Mini with 10.4.10 and iLife 08 and put in place of the 10.4.9 ilife 06 mini, the first time it was suppose to shutdown it hung, there was an error on the screen that said "Keynote had canceled shutdown".
    Testing proved the following:
Schedule shutdown does not work at all when a Keynote presentation is running. You get this error.
"The application Keynote canceled shutdown. To try again quit Keynote and choose shut down from the Apple menu"
It will auto shutdown and startup IF a Keynote slide show is NOT running.
It will do a scheduled shutdown if just the Keynote App is running.
If the Keynote app is running a normal shutdown command will work.
Does anyone know a work around or a fix?

The thread "Keynote Cancelled Shutdown: how do I troubleshoot?" has recently posted a possible solution but is there an explanation or a fix planned?

Maybe it is this bug: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=154969
The decisive effect is 'Improved window management' - if this effect is enabled kwin works normally.

  • Numbers 09 and Pages 09 no longer work after 10.6.5 update

I have the last version of iWork 09. After the 10.6.5. update Numbers 09 and Pages 09 no longer work.
    Keynote 09 is fine.
Both Numbers 09 and Pages 09 open, the window for choosing a template also opens.
I am not able to choose a template. Waited for several minutes ... no chance.
Removed the software, re-installed from DVD, updated to the latest version ... this did not solve the problem. Contacted Apple support , went through many steps with no success.
Were you able to use Numbers 09 and Pages 09 after recent Mac OS X update ?
Any ideas what I could do ?
    Thank you for help!

May you try to run the applications from an other user account ?
If they behave flawlessly, the culprit is in your original user account.
In such case, it's often one or several preferences files which are corrupted.
    Try to
    quit the applications,
    move the preferences files :
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Numbers. plist
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.pl ist
    to the desktop
    restart the apps.
If they behave flawlessly, you know the culprits. Trash them.

  • Quartz Compositions working in Keynote again

I don't know what did it - OS X 10.6.1 (not so probable) or the Keynote 5.0.3 update (more likely) - but Quartz Compositions in Keynote on my MacBook Pro are working again, regardless of the graphics card settings.
I should have added this to http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1856921&tstart=0 but it's been archived.

Thanks for the heads-up on this issue -- that is very good news.

  • Apple Composite AV Cable no longer working on Ipad2 after ios8 update. Only getting sound, can you revert back to ios7 or buy a cable that will work any help would be appreciated

Apple Composite AV Cable no longer working on Ipad2 after ios8 update. I'm only getting sound no video can you revert back to ios7 or buy a cable that will work any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

The 30-pin connector on the iPhone 4 dock might not have all the connector pins to do video.
I'm 99% sure the Universal Dock does have the pins (and therefor supports video out).

  • HT1454 iphone 4, composite cable no longer works with ios6 update

I have the iphone 4, and I used an apple composite cable to watch youtube, videos, etc on my TV through an AV input. But when I upgraded from IOS 4 to IOS 6, it no longer works. Says something along the lines of "accessory not supported" or close to that. The iphone used to go into a display mode, where nothing shows on the phone's screen, and everything shows on the TV. But now it doesn't even do anything but give me an error message. Any ideas?
In sum, it worked before, but updated, and now no longer works.

It was the cable connector seating.
It looked fully attached, but on removal and FIRM attachment it worked.
If the AV iPod connector is not fully seated you get this error. The old iPod connector used a locking connection with a positive click, the AV cable uses a lockless connector that differs from the newer lockless iPhone connector. I suspect the AV cable connector was a transitional design that may have more connectivity issues.

I bought a composite AV cable with 30 pin connector at a proper apple store for my ipad 2 which no longer works now i have updated to ios7 - please advise how to make this work ?

    I have the same problem.
    Two similar discussions:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23081658#23081658
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23281391#23281391
I have not yet seen any official response to the question: "Is the Apple AV Composite cable fully supported with 30pin connector devices upgraded with iOS7 - specifically ? - eg. iPad 2, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s"
If it is not currently supported is that then due to a bug / oversight and in that case is it something that will be fixed in the near future?
Please let us know what feedback you got from asking Apple support.

  • My ipad air was bought and activated AFTER September 1st and I downloaded pages, keynote and numbers. I then changed my Apple ID as the password no longer worked, these apps were also deleted I order to be updated. Now I cannot get the free version. Help?

My ipad air was bought and activated AFTER September 1st (activated December 25th) and I downloaded pages, keynote and numbers. I then changed my Apple ID as the password no longer worked, These apps had to be deleted as I needed to update them. Now I cannot get the free version on my ipad. I have searched the internet to see if there is a solution, and I found a few but unfortunately none have worked. I desperately need these apps as my iPad is used for school. Is this an issue I should take up with the apple support centre or something? Please help! Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Openbox autostart no longer working since upgrade

After the upgrade on May 14 2013 my autostart file no longer works. I tried renaming my autostart.sh to just autostart no luck. Well, since it worked fine even when called indirectly through openbox-autostart and since it's worked fine for months I figured it was fine. I am happy to post it though. Here you go:

Stuff that needs sudo is in my sudoers as "username hostname NOPASSWD: item1,item2,etc,etc". Nothing too exciting. Seems like if there was suddenly something wrong with my autostart file at least some of the stuff would run either way though cause of "&". Pretty puzzling this issue is.

  • App Store Pages no longer works on Snow Leopard after upgrade

I bought Pages (and Numbers and Keynote) from the App Store last summer. I have been using it on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) with no problems up until a few weeks ago. Since then I must have told  the App Store application to update all applications with updates (though I don't particularly remember doing that), and now when I attempt to open Pages I get a dialog box saying "You can't use this version of the application Pages.app with this version of Mac OS X. You have Mac OS X 10.6.8. The application requires Mac OS X 10.7.4". This is outrageous. How can a routine update of a App Store app stop it from working without any kind of warning? How do I revert to a version that will work on Snow Leopard? Don't just tell me that Pages isn't supported on Snow Leopard, because the version I bought last summer has been working just fine. Am I supposed to Google through pages and pages of information looking for warnings before I upgrade each application before updating? (I also own Aperture.) And what if I make a mistake and accidentally upgrade to a version that no longer works?

Which version of Pages 09 do you have? You don't need higher version than 4.0.4 on Snow Leopatd. Here you can download the iWork 9.0.4 update.

  • Download Pull-Down Menu in Web App Olive ActivePaper Daily 4.0 No Longer "Works" in Firefox 10

I have a paid subscription to the online edition (aka "e-edition") of the Raleigh News & Observer, http://www.newsobserver.com/. In Firefox 10, I am no longer able to download the pdf of the paper; the download pull-down menu in web app "Olive ActivePaper Daily 4.0" no longer "works" in Firefox 10 on Win XP or Win 7. This was not a problem in Firefox 9 and earlier. The pull-down menu continues to "work" in IE8. A valid username & password is required to do the download. The ''only ''change made to my Windows XP system was the upgrade from Firefox 9 to Firefox 10.

The thread "Keynote Cancelled Shutdown: how do I troubleshoot?" has recently posted a possible solution but is there an explanation or a fix planned?

  • Excel 2011 for Mac No Longer Works. Wonder if it is Maverick?

I am hoping someone can help me.
I am wondering if this my problem has something to do with Maverick update but my Mac Excel no longer works. I can save a file and it will open once but after that it will open but be completely blank. As for older files, ones that I desperately need, I keep getting this message: The file format or extension is invalid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file"
I have spent hours on these forums and Mac forums reading about other peopel havign the issue and trying to troubleshoot it myself. I have already attempted opening the file by putting it in the shared folder and creating a new user. I have also cached the fonts, eliminated all fonts with warnings and duplicate fonts. I have gone into disk utility and repaired permissions. I have also tried software like Onyx to repair.I have also trashed Word font cache. Nothing has worked. Could someone please help me figure this out. I do have the files on an external hardrive and have tried uploading to a PC or Google Drive Spreadsheet and nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any suggestions or why this is happening. I no longer have the disk so I can't reload. I was wondering if my best bet now moving forward would be to revert back to an older operating system.
    Any insight would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Andrea

Have you attempted to open the troublesome files with a different program that reads Excel formatted spreadsheets? Open them then re-save them in a format Excel will read.
If you use any "cleanup" or "anti-virus" or similarly categorized utilities on your Mac, don't. Junk software like that is very aggressively marketed and is capable of corrupting system and other files, resulting in nothing but misery.
You may find help on a Microsoft support forum. When you eventually grow tired of playing Microsoft's games, consider the alternatives. There are many options today, most of them are better and some are free.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice ($10 but older version is free if you can find it)
    OpenOffice (completely free)
    Numbers ($19.99)
    Keynote ($19.99)
    Pages ($19.99)
