Quartz Extreme capable video card required
I have been running Final Cut Pro on my Mac Pro (MacPro1,1) for over a year but recently have been unable to open it due to a minimum system checks dialog box that tells me my system is not quartz extreme capable. I have been told that if I am running Snow Leopard, which I am (10.6.7), my system is quartz extreme compatible. I have read other posts that suggest using the esc key - this does not work for me. Other posts suggest changing the resolution down and up again, still no joy. Still other posts suggest changing the colour settings between millions and thousands - no such option exists for my system.
Any help would be appreciated as I would like to get FCP up and running ASAP. Thanks.
(On a side note, I have been having intermittent troubles with my current graphics card, ATI Radeon X1900 XT, overheating and crashing.Can i purchase a graphics upgrade kit form Apple such as the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 or ATI Radeon HD 5770 and expect it to work correctly, I am having trouble locating an appropriate card for such an old machine, MacPro 1,1 as mentioned above.)
I'm not sure how many restarts I did - I did connect a different monitor in between - but i doubt that had anything to do with it. I have now installed a new graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5770) and have not had any such trouble since.

"Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card"
Today, I opened Motion after 3 weeks away from my computer. In mid-December, it worked fine. Today, Motion would not start, instead popping up a dialog box saying "Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Hmm. Nothing changed except maybe a Software Update over the past 3 weeks. After a few panicky minutes, I realized it was worth restarting the machine, and that fixed it.
Why did it happen? Probably because, before I left for a holiday, I unplugged my Cinema LED monitors (to save energy costs). When I returned to the machine today, plugged in their power cables and started working.
Somehow, Motion was triggered to protest that I didn't have the right display hardware, but, thankfully, a restart fixed the problem.Thanks for sharing...

Quartz Extreme or video card freezed new iMac every few minutes
Hi, I recently bought a refurbished iMac because I wanted the ATI video card instead of the new nvidia ones. So it was great, I set it up in less then 5 minutes with zero prior knowledge of macs, and began to do stuff like the commercials, moving videos, playing music, etc. After about 10 minutes or so, the screen just froze. Weird thing is, the mouse still moves, but that's it. The whole screen is frozen, but the mouse still works. You can still SSH in, etc, but everything else is just frozen still. I waited a few hours, same thing. So I restarted it thinking it was a one-time thing. About another 10 minutes passed of doing stuff, and it froze again. So I thought maybe software updates would fix it. After 2 hours of waiting for the combo updates and other updates to download and install (this I would like to point out, when the computer is idle, it doesn't freeze, it freezes only when I'm "doing stuff"). Same problem, EFI updates, same problem. So I began to troubleshoot. First, I ran memtest and the apple hardware test (extended), no problem. Next, Disk Util, Verify + Repair, no problems found, but freezing still occurs. I googled and found it was either a RAM or VRAM problem, I know it isn't RAM because memtest didn't return any errors, so I figured it has something to do with video. I tried lower resolutions still doesn't work. Finally, I went hard-core and disabled Quartz Extreme (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20040724190553112) and it doesn't freeze anymore. So my question is:
1) Is this a software problem (can it be fixed via software), or more likely a hardware problem (defected video card?)
2) If it's a hardware problem, can Apple fix it for free or do I have to return it?
P.S: It's kinda ironic that I switched to a Mac to escape all the computer issues I face daily with a PC and all I get is more but I gotta admit, it was easy to set up and the interface is lovely.Ok, there's two crash logs, but I think they're unrelated:

L9 & new MP Quad Install Issues: Quartz Extreme capable card?
Hello - so I went for it and got a new Mac Pro and the L9 upgrade and the installer won't let me install it - it tells me that Logic Studio requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card. Anyone have any insight on how to fix this? Thanks!
What? A quad Nehalem has insufficient video capabilities??? That is beyond ridiculous.

What is a "Core Image-capable video card" ?
Roxio Toast 10 Titanium Pro recommends in its System requirements that a core image-capable video card be used. I don’t know what this means, nor do I know whether my iMac has this video card.
I checked the System Profiler for my aging 2005 iMacG5 PPC and under Hardware / Graphics/Displays, my iMac has an ATI Radeon X600 XT. Under the Displays description, there is a “Core Image: Hardware Accelerated” feature. I don’t know how important the recommended video card is, nor whether my existing card would meet Roxio’s recommended system requirements.
I picked the Final Cut Express HD Forum to post this question; if there is a better Forum, please advise.
I want to purchase this Roxio software so that I can burn Blu-Ray discs of 1080i video footage downloaded from my Canon Vixia HV30 into Final Cut Express 3.5. After video editing in FCE, I want to export into Toast 10 because iDVD will not produce hi-def DVD’s.
I’m sure there are some experts out there who know whether my video card is sufficient for what I want to do, and may have other comments/suggestions about my hardware and its ability to work with Toast 10 and meet Blu-Ray objectives.

As a general rule of thumb, the ATI Rage 128 Pro will not support a 20" LCD. That being said, there are reports of it doing just that (possibly the edition that went into the cube).
I'm not that familiar with the ins and outs of the Cube, so I can't give you authoritative information on it.

I just bought Final Cut Studio, and I can't install Motion because my video card doesn't meet the minimum requirement. I have Nvidia G-Force 4 4600 Ti, 128MB, so is my video card outdated? I've decided to upgrade my processor, but I need to upgrade my card too? This was an expensive card when I bought it.
Sometimes processor upgrades work wonderfully. Sometimes they cause problems. Hard to say what your experience will be.

Photoshop Elements 10 Open GL 2.0 video card requirement.
I understand that in order to resize photos taken with a cell phone, as well as other more complex functions, my computer must have a video card that supports Open GL 2.0 video card with 256 MB dedicated video ram. Can someone suggest reliable manufacturers?

p313I don't think you need any open gl for the editor in elements 10, just for the on screen slideshow of your photos in the organizer if you want certain transition effects.

Final Cut won't start sometimes, says I need a quartz extreme video card
Even though I have a quartz extreme capable video card and use Final Cut studio all the time, sometimes an error message will pop up and won't let me load any final cut application. The message is "Final cut pro recommends that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
I've tried deleting the preferences, and then running applejack. Sometimes it works, but right now I can't get it to load. I'm not even sure where to start troubleshooting this. Any advice would be much appreciated.

As it turns out, though, I think I've solved the problem, adapting a solution to a related problem I found on MacRumors.com. Don't know why this is necessary, but here's the solution I tried:
1. right click on the FCE application icon and select "Show Package Contents"
2. open the "Contents" folder and then open the "info.plist" folder in Text Edit
3. find the line that says: "<key>AELMinimumQuartzExtremeCapable</key>," and replace it with "<key>AELMinimumGeForceCapable</key>", and then make sure that the next line says "<string></string>" without any number specified. Or, if you have some other kind of graphics card that you know is compatible, you could say what that is instead of GeForce. I found it doesn't work just to delete this line completely.
Again, I don't know why Apple didn't build in this flexibility when they updated their standard Graphics cards, but in any case this solution seems to work. -

My old GFX card nVidia GeForce 7300GT which is busted.
I replaced it with a nVidia NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 from a Mac Pro of the same generation.
I'm now getting a Quartz Extreme error whenever I try to run Final Cut Pro 6 or Compressor. "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Pro 6 requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Well, I checked the specs of the card and it does support Quartz Extreme. So why isn't FCP 6 running?
Looking under the System Profiler > Graphics/Displays, it doesn't say the Cinema HD Display supports Quartz Extreme, but how could that be, because the Quadro 4500's specs online says it does?!! This was the better GFX card made for the same generation of Mac Pro but somehow doesn't work!
This is also effecting my DVD player App with an error: "A valid video device could not be found for playback: -70017". Which has never happened before either.
I've researched online and can't find anything that works.
The card has power running to it and the monitor is hooked into the closest DVI port to the logic board which most of people with the same problem have done to fix this. I've also gone into the Disk Utility and ran both Verify and Repair permissions and the same for the boot disk.
Nothing. I'm stumped. Short of trying to flash the ROM on the GFX card I'm not sure what to do. And I'm not comfortable doing that. Help please?

FCE won't open on my new MacBook Pro - says I need a Quartz Extreme Card
I just bought a new MacBook Pro Laptop, and since I was having lots of hardware and software related problems with my old one, I clean installed everything rather than transferring things through archive.
Anyhow, I was initially able to register and install FCE from the original disk and then downloaded and installed all available upgrades. I opened it up, tried "Log and Transfer" to upload some video I'd shot on my Canon Vixia HFS10, and it worked fine. I saved and closed, but now, next morning when I tried to open FCE to edit my video it wouldn't open. A "Minimum System Check" came up that said "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Express requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme Capable Video Card." I'm pretty sure that my NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT cards meet the requirements and that Final Cut Express just doesn't recognize that they are much better than the minimum requirements it is programmed to look for. How can I fix this? I saw another thread on a similar topic suggesting that someone delete their FCE, and then perform a clean install, but that's effectively what I've just gone through, and I'm not in the mood to spend a couple of hours seeing if the same thing I just did fixes the problem I have now. This seems like something that would be an easy programming fix, probably a simple modification to a preferences file, but I wonder if anyone out there has the solution?

Mac Pro 1.1, OSX 10.6.8, ATI 1900XT, Quartz Extreme - Not working
I am about to sell my computer and I wanted to check and make sure everything is working as it should. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 2x Intel 2.66ghz Dual Core, running OSX 10.6.8, ATI Radeon 1900XT.
Everything was working fine a few weeks ago. Now when I try to open just about any program, I get an error that says "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: ie Final Cut Pro requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
I have always been able to run FCP and all the programs that are giving me this error. I don't know exactly when I updated to OSX10.6.8, but I am almost certain I have been able to run FCP with OSX 10.6.8, I was running it about three weeks ago and the only thing that I know of that is different is that I updated photoshop.

I recently tried to run my copy of Final Cut Express 3.5 but it said I am missing the Quartz Extreme Support. I'm using a MacBook. I read on the minimum requirements that Final Cut Express will work with MacBooks, and my copy of Final Cut Express worked fine when my MacBook ran Tiger. I recently upgraded to Leopard and now it doesn't work anymore.

• Final Cut Express requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card.
I'm using FCE4 on a MacBook Pro and nothing has changed on my computer since I last used FCE on Thursday.
Wasn't there a FCE software update a week or so ago? Should I go back in the Time Machine to before that update? I tried the simple solution listed below, but my system was already set for millions of colors. -
FCP Quartz Extreme - Help Please!
I need help. I work on a MacBook Pro w/ the latest version of Final Cut Pro. I recently updated the 'Pro Apps' after Apple's software update popped up on my desktop. After upgrading, then restarting I went to start up my FCP. It won't start/open. What I do get is a "Minimum Systems Checks" box that reads as follows:
This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: • Final Cut Pro requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card. This configuration is not supported. The software will not function properly with your with your current system configuration.
Somebody please help. What is this? This couldn't have happened at a worse time. Why does it seem every time an upgrade comes out - Apple seems to try to get its consumers to upgrade themselves out of a application.

David - Merry ChristmasIf you depend on your system professionally, you need to either never automatically do a software update, or (and here's what I do), when you have a stable OS/Application combo, clone your startup drive using a program like carbon copy cloner (available for free on versiontracker.com) to create a bootable copy of your startup drive. When and if problems occur (either from a software update, some sort of system corruption, or a hard drive meltdown) you can quickly restore your startup drive to a working state. I have a second internal drive which I use for my clone, but you can actually boot off an external firewire drive if it's formatted properly.

Running iMovie 08 on a PowerMac G5 with two video cards?
I have two video cards installed on my PowerMac G5. The primary card is the Radeon 9600 XT (AGP). I also added a relatively inexpensive Radeon 9200 (PCI) to run a second monitor.
Under iMovie HD, this setup works well, although it does warn me that one of the video cards is unsupported. (As long as the iMovie windows are on the primary monitor). Final Cut Pro Studio 2 also has no difficulties with this setup.
iMovie 08, while it installs, starts up with a window saying that Quartz Extreme is required and only allows me to quit. The 9600 XT does support Quartz Extreme, while the 9200 does not.
While I do not use iMovie for my own video editing (I do have Final Cut Pro), I need to be able to open and see student projects created in iMovie. It seems odd that iMovie could have stiffer video card requirements than Final Cut Pro (or Motion 3).
rhf3Hello! You are correct "iMovie requires a Mac with an Intel processor, a Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or an iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster)". You can't upgrade the G4 to run iMovie 08. Tom
