QuckTime Movie 16:9

Dear Forum Members,
After reading many posts and the FCP5 manual, I cannot seem to find a solution to my problem: after correctly capturing and editing a Squeezed 24pa timeline, I cannot export to QuickTime Movie (File > Export > QuickTime Movie) and maintain 16:9. The QuickTime file plays back in QuickTime Player AND iDVD as squished 4:3. However, when I drag the same file into a FCP5 browser, it plays in the viewer correctly as 16:9.
Do I need to tweak things after the file is in QuickTime Player, i.e., before iDVD?
Thanks.

It depends why you want the QuickTime to display at 16:9 ratio (1024* by 576 PAL, 853 by 480 NTSC).
The built-in resolution for SD stays the same, whether the content is designed to be shown spread across a 4:3 screen or a 16:9 screen.
QuickTime Player displays the pixels as if they were square (as they usually are on computer screens). On TVs there are a variety of ratios depending on TV standard (PAL/NTSC) and aspect ratio (4:3/16:9)
To make QuickTime player show your movie at 16:9, choose 'Show Movie Properties' from the Window menu, click the 'Video Track' - make sure the 'Visual Settings' tab is selected in the lower part of the window. Uncheck the 'Preserve Aspect Ratio' checkbox and set the 'Scaled Size' to 853 x 480 pixels. Save the movie. The file size doesn't change, but the header information will tell QuickTime player to show the content at a ratio of 16:9.
*Technically, due to vertical blanking, this figure should be 1050, see http://www.bbc.co.uk/commissioning/tvbranding/picturesize.shtml

  • Cannot export a self contained Qucktime movie

As of yesterday I have lost the ability to export a self contained Quicktime move from FCE. The sequence is complete and rendered and I have exported as recently as last month but now it simply makes what's known as a reference movie with the suffix .mov
The Export drop down menu still displays all the Quicktime options.
Additionally the Quicktime icon in my dock when clicked displays a question mark. I tried downloading Quicktime but still no go.
    Please help Tom

Right but what I am trying to convey is that I need to generate the brushed chrome framed, high quality, up-loadable, stand alone video that I used to get with ease and I cannot get that with my FCE. What are you calling it, what is the proper term because I always called them Quicktime. I made one less than 2 months a go.
Quicktime is present in my System Prefs but is not in the dock. When it was a question mark appeared over it. I cannot find it, launch it, etc.

  • Short way to generate a DVD, saving a Qucktime-movie

I have converted a VHS video cassette to a file with .dv extension. Unhappy there where two movies on the tape, so I had to open the .dv with QT (I thought to have to open it....), and copied both parts into new players and saved it as movie.
This lasts for a long time, and the resulting files are in size both longer than the former result of converting...
Is there a better way to divide a file into parts?
    Thank for help,
    Karl

Have you tried editing the .dv file using iMovie? Cut out what you don't want and send the file to iDVD.

  • Why does the iPhoto slideshow I exported as a movie only last 5 seconds?, How do I save an iPhoto slideshow as movie?

I followed the instructions for exporting an iPhoto slideshow as a Qucktime movie, but when I drag it onto my iWeb page, it only plays for 5 seconds.  What am I doing wrong?

I started having this problem last week. It affects new and old photos. Maybe one in several hundred photos has this problem. Some of them were fine earlier and have been in iPhoto for years.
This seems to be a rendering problem of some sort. When I click on the thumbnail, a fuzzy low-rez image comes up full size, but instead of resolving to full resolution the screen just goes black.
I imported 30 images yesterday. Jpegs created from RAW files by Nikon Capture. All but one are fine. The actual file in the library seems OK (I tried the suggestion above). I can export the photo and it's fine in mail or other viewers. It's just that Iphoto can't seem to display it at full/high resolution. At first I thought that it might be due to the size (12Mpxl) but the other ones are fine, and some of the old images this happens to are small (2mpxl) and taken as jpgs by an old canon point and shoot.
I'm using Iphoto8 7.1.3(364) and the only thing that's changed on my computer recently is adding the latest 10.4.11 java and security updates.
I tried to duplicate the photo, and the problem also occurs with the duplicate. I can't do the revert trick, since I haven't edited the file in any way since import.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm happy to send the affected photo if it helps.
    Thanks.

  • Jerky playback of movies only in iTunes

Have movies that play perfectly directly from Quicktime (7.1.3) and when loaded on the iPod with iTunes. But when the same file is played within iTunes (7.02) as a movie, the playback is jerky and like stop motion. The apparent frame rate is several per second. Audio playback is fine whike this happens.
Activity Monitor shows about the same level of CPU utilization in both applications Quicktime and iTunes, at around 20% on my 1.6GHz G5 Powermac.
I have Quicktime Pro if it makes a difference.
Using EyeTV (2.3.2) and playing back as a Qucktime movie also produces a clean playback.
So, the jerky playback is only in iTunes.
OS X version is 10.4.7, I'd rather not update to 10.4.8.
I've looked for preference settings and other interactions. Any suggestions?

If you search (itunes forums) you'd have found this tidbit:
I found the problem! The jerky playback in iTunes7 is caused by a conflict with the 3ivx D4 4.5.1 component found in the Library/Quicktime/ folder.
It may also be say an old DivX codec, etc. Same folder. Remove to your desktop and try again.
Also some have reported turning off the internal mic if you have one, and making sure MIDI settings are at 44.100Khz.
    Give these a try.

  • Importing MOV clips into Premier Elements 10

I'm trying to import Qucktime MOV clips into Adobe Premier Elements 10 but they install as audio files only. How can I get them to load as video clips so I can construct a movie from them?

    Hi
I'm using a Mobius 1080p HD camera shooting in HD producing MOV files.
I've inspected one of the files using Quicktime/Windows and the information is
    Format - H.264. 1920 x 1080. Millions 16 bit Integer (Little Endian). Mono. 32.000 Htz
    Movie FPS = 30.00
    Playing FPS = 30.00
    Data Size 401.47 MB
    Data Rate 18.19 mbits/sec
    Duration 00.03.05.00
    Normal Size 1920 x 1080 pixels
    Current Size 1920 x 1080 pixels
The clips play in excellent quality HD and without a problem in Windows Media Player
I have reformated some in MP4 format and they will play back in Premier Elements after a fashion.. but very slow and jerky making editing just about impossible. I have reloaded Adobe Premier Elements on another computer but get the same results.
It appears Adobe Premier Elements is not up to dealing with these files.

  • How to edit MP4 movies?

How to join two or more qucktime movies?

    hey, traderart,
    see if this can work:http://www.ehow.com/how_6944202_join-movies-quicktime.html
or as i know, video converters can do this job well. if you want, you can try this video converter mac .
to use a video converter to join movies, you need only import->merge->output.
    good luck.

  • Error exporting... Says I need to render but I already have!

When I go to export my project as an MPEG 2, red bars appear over the timeline as if I haven't rendered and I get a message telling me that I need to render before exporting. I have rendered the project so I have no idea what the problem is. It will let me export the project as a Qucktime movie.
    Thanks for your help!

for export to MPEG2 you need to render everything ... even th ebits that fcp can playback in full res without rendering
go to you sequence render menu and make sure that even "Full" has a checkmark , then render again.
    this time it should work

  • ProRes 4444 with BOTH Alpha Channel AND Timecode?

Recently did a large project of creating alpha channels from green screen footage.
Made the timelines 4444 and tried to output.
If I export as Quicktime, I get the timecode but not the Alpha channel.
If I export as Quicktime Conversion, I can get the Alpha channel, but not the timecode.
Am I doing something fundamentally wrong?
Is there a way to get both on the same output?
Like I said, this project is large -- 91 files -- and it takes more than 8 hours to export out either way even on a current 6 core machine.
What I really do NOT want to have to do is some crazy copy and paste of the timecode information from two separate exports.

You said, "'export as Quicktime' is a very vague description."
    Actually, it's not.
    A person only has a few choices in Final Cut Pro.  If you want to get really specific;
File > Export > QuckTime Movie...
    Or
File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion...
    That's it!
With the first and ONLY the first, it will export whatever is on your timeline and you can get Timecode, but I can't figure out a way to make it output the Alpha channel with it.
With the other, you can get any sort of converted output you can input, including ProRes 4444 and Alpha, but unfortunately not the Timecode track.
UNLESS some Guru out there knows some sort of trick.
I'm hoping to find somebody that knows one.

  • Help with dumping to DV and losing audio

I'm using FCP5 and I'm trying to dump my video to DV so I can show it soon. When I play back the DV tape there is no audio. I've tried 2 cams and it's not that, so somehow I've messed up a setting that sends the right audio to the DV. Can someone pls help me?
    Thanks
    Mitch

Thanks for the idea, but unfortunately that's not it. Let me do a better job of describing the problem.
When I am capturing video I get this message after I Esc to stop the capture that says that the video and audio don't sync and it could cause playback issues. How do I get rid of this? I'm using my powerbook and a sony handycam via firewire. I have everything set at DV NTSC 48. The audio setting say Default but I can only choose that, Built-In Audio or Firewire DV. SHould this be set at Firewire DV?
After I finished my video I tried to dump it back to DV tape to play it live through my camera. Is this the best way to do it? After I dumped it I found that all of the audio was gone. Nothing. I exported to Qucktime movie and found that my music had made it by my voice overs had not. Does this have something to do with the tabs next to the A1 and A2 down on the timeline? If so how do I get it to accept more audio tracks?
FYI when I play it through my laptop speakers I can hear everything. When I try to play the audio through a PA (last ditch effort to go on with the show) the voice overs are gone.
I would really appreciate any help that you could provide. I know I'm asking a lot. Thanks in advance.
    Mitch

  • FCP, Quicktime and Qmaster

I am trying to use Qmaster to distribute processing from Compressor. I only have one copy of FCP so I know I need to export the FCP file as a quicktime file, then submit that quicktime file through compressor to take advantage of Qmaster and distributed processing. What I need to know, is if the end result is going to be a DVD: Best Quality file from compressor. What settings do I need to use to export the quicktime file. Also am I going to loose all the time I would have made up from using Qmaster if I have to first export a quicktime movie.
    Thanks,
    John

    What is a G5 WorkBook?
I know of PowerBook G3 and G4s. The ones that came after were the MacBook and MacBook Pro, both of which use Intel processors.
Anyway..., click once on a QuckTime movie and press command and i keys.
Scroll down to Open With. Click the button and choose QuickTime Player from the list.
Below that, you will see some text "Use this application to open all documents like this".
    Click the "Change All" button.

  • Exporting to burn onto a DVD or to stream

what are the best exporting options if i want to burn on a dvd, and what are the best options if i want to stream it on a website? i am trying to export a 35 minute movie and i keep having quality problems.

    For the DVD:
Export as Qucktime Movie. That is the one that keeps the quality of your Sequence Setting. You have the option of making it self-contained (creates a large file that can remain independent of your project) or not self-contained (creates a smaller file that references your project) ... this latter one works just spiffy. Also use this export setting to export chapter markers if so desired.
This Qucktime movie will work in DVD Studio Pro (you have the option of exporting it thru Compressor later), iDVD or Roxio Toast. Do not use Quicktime Conversion settings for a DVD
As for web settings: Not really my area of my expertise but I think if your end users have updated Quicktime viewers H.264 is very high quality (tho really slow export) and if not, maybe Sorenson or MPEG4. Others more web savvy than I will chirp in, no doubt

  • How to burn HD dvd in DVD studio pro

    Hi,
I burnt a HD Edit wich i exported from fcp 6 as a qucktime movie (.mov)
i compressed and dragged my .m2v and a3c. files into DVD studio pro and stimulated.
the Edit looked fine so i pressed burnt.
the dvd's quality looked really bad...
    please help!

    Hi, Ross
    Thanks for the reply.
I exported from FCP as follows:
Right click on sequence > Export > Quicktime Movie
I used 'current settings' and clicked Save.
The Quicktime Movie looked good when I played it back in both Quicktime player and iTunes.
I am using Compressor 4 so there is no setting for '90min Best Quality.
    In Compressor -
    Dropdown 'Apple'
    Dropdown 'Disc Burning'
And I chose The Dolby setting for th audio and Mpeg 2 for DVD, dragged them and in inspector i have done a compression with 'progressive', 'top first' and 'bottom first'.
i found that top first worked better.
