  • How can I use Iphone 4 as an mp3 player without a sim card until I get one?

    Hi,
How can I use Iphone 4 as an mp3 player without a sim card until I get one? I just bought the phone and each time I try to switch it on to use the mp3 player, I cannot. It asks me to insert a sim card and I don't have a sim card yet. I was thinking I could use the mp3 player function of my phone until I buy a sim card.
Thank you for your help in advance,

Thank you, I understand, yeah, I knew that, my phone is factory unlocked and I am going home, which is obviously not in the States and I am thinking of buying a local carrier there. However, I still have 2 weeks before I leave and cannnot wait to start using my Iphone 4. I thought at least I could use the mp3 player function. So as far as I understand, I cannot activate it without a sim card. I have been using metropcs for about two years and it does not have a sim card. In this case, do I really not have another choice but wait for two weeks to listen to music? My Mp3 player just failed me and I really need to listen to music but on the other hand, while I can use my iphone as an mp3 player in two weeks, I don't want to spend more money on a new one. So, do you have another suggestion? For instance, can I use a friend's sim card to activate mine? Would this cause any trouble, when I go home and buy a local carrier? I think these questions might kinda sound weird to you, but first time with an Iphone, extremely excited to start using under my circumstances, I need help   thanks,

You do a restore as new to wipe the iPhone then at the end of restore you will be asked to restore from backup. Choose your iPhone backup.
Note you cannot restore an IOS newer than the IOS on iPhone, you need to update iPhone first.

Try resetting the phone. Hold the home and power lock button until the Apple logo appears. If that does not work, turn the phone off and take the SIM out and then put it back in.
If that still does not work, you may have a defective SIM, in which case you will need a new one from your carrier.

If you are both on the T-mobile network, the sim card should work.  If you did a Erase All Content and Settings, then she should be at the point of activation as a new device...talk to T-mobile and be sure the sim she is using is a valid sim card.

  • Buying a new iphone with a contract and using current 3g sim card for it.

I have the iphone 3g and recently my screen got cracked. Is it possible to just buy another iphone from a Apple store and put my sim card into the new phone?
I'm not too sure if they allow you to just buy the phone without the whole contract thingie.

You cannot simply buy another iPhone 3G and put the original SIM card into it - the SIM card is 'married' to the IMEI of the iPhone when it's activated, so the old one won't work in the new phone. However, you can buy another iPhone 3G - but, you (or your friend) will need to pay the unsubsidized price, which is $399/$499 for the 8/16 GB iPhone 3G.
Alternatively, the iPhone Out-of-Warranty Service cost is $199/$299. Out-of-Warranty Service applies to iPhones that are damaged, but not catastrophically damaged (i.e. if your screen is cracked, that's fine, but if your phone is in pieces or it it's been submerged in liquid, that's not repairable and you'll need to pay the unsubsidized cost of a new phone as above). If your concern is about being without a phone, for $29 you can use the Advance Replacement Service, where Apple sends you a replacement iPhone and then you send the damaged iPhone back. Details are here:

  • Can i use my iphone 3 in new zealand with a nz sim card without it needing to be unlocked?

can i use my iphone 3 in new zealand with a nz sim card in it without it needing to be unlocked?

That depends... its is ALREADY unlocked? If so, then you should be fine.  If the phone is carrier locked, then no, obviously you can't use it with a SIM from another carrier without getting it unlocked first.

  • HT4972 after the update, my iphone is not starting, and itunes is not reading my iphone, itunes tells me that there is no sim card inserted, which is wrong, any solutions?

Does your computer recognize other iPhones?
If the problem is only with this iPhone, try following along with this Apple doc -> iOS: Unable to update or restore
If the computer doesn't recognize other iPhones, try following along with this Apple doc -> iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

Restoring the iPhone requires reactivation, which in turn requires a SIM card.

After restoring iPhone 4, iTunes is telling me that my SIM card is not supported. It is the same SIM I have always used with this phone. What action can I take to convince phone that the SIM card is OK?

    Hello again, update time.
Finally got to speak to a senior technical advisor at Apple today who was most confused until he back-tracked and double checked all the basics. He then realised that the actual serial number of my original phone (from the proof of purchase I sent him) was different to the one that they had recorded when they made the swap. I think he said it was out by one character and was actually showing as a mobile connected to AT&T (from the States). He said that the replacement phone was then set-up as per the serial number they had typoed into their system as locked to AT&T. The genius who did the swap at Apple Doncaster must have placed an unlock on it at the time in order for my 3 SIM to work at all. Therefore when I restored it, it returned to the settings of the incorrect original phone serial number!
So... Apple tech advisor said he can rectify the records and re-set the factory setting to an Australian iPhone on the 3 network within 12-24 hours. Fingers crossed all is good by tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks for your suggestions though, I had been trying everything to get it to work as I'm sure you know how hard they are to live without once you've got used to living with one!
    Cheers, Tom.

Its a serious problem and many people are facing the same issue on both locked and factory unlocked phones.
I wonder when Apple will address to this issue. After all it is losing all its reputation!
See this thread, many users are encountering the same issue:

I believe its a software issue and could be solved asap Apple fixes it!

    Activation requires a SIM card.
Activation issues are almost always the result of a device that has been hacked or jailbroken. If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

  • I have iphone 4s after update ios7 "There is no SIM card installed"

i have iphone 4s after update ios7 "There is no SIM card installed" i purchased from austuralia but now i am in egypt and i made the update here but the result my iphone not working now with any sim card
    what can i do?

Maybe the SIM card is faulty one has not bee inserted correctly.  Take the sim out and reinsert it.  Try a different sim.  Maybe the phone was hacked to unlock it from the original carrier and when you updated it it relocked
