Queries about SLD transport

Hi Forum,
want to know something about SLD transport,
1. If i transport a TS from one SLD to another, will it also automatically transport all products and software components refered by this TS,
2. If the products and Software component refered by this TS, are already present in the second SLD, will it update the software components,
3. If i transport a software component, that is already present in the other SLD, will it update it (overwrite it),
pls help

Hi,
1. If i transport a TS from one SLD to another, will it also automatically transport all products and software components refered by this TS,
>
Irrespective of whether you have a Common SLD or Different SLD's , you need not create the SWCV manually in your SLD. When you transport the SWCV and import it into your new IR, the corresponding entries will happen in SLD.
In CMS transport, you could select the individual object or namesapce or all software component to be transported.

In your source system,. say tool--> Export --> using file system and then select your SWCV. The exported TPZ file wll be placed in the EXPORT directory of your server.
Now, copy this TPZ file into the import directory of your new server and then tolls --> import.
For the export and import directories, XI Homepage --> Administration --> General Information.,
2. If the products and Software component refered by this TS, are already present in the second SLD,
will it update the software components
---> Hi yes it will update the existing Software component refered by TS. No need to create another one.
While transporting the modified object
Refer CMS links mentioned above. Here you could select the individual object or namesapce or all software component to be transported.
3. If i transport a software component, that is already present in the other SLD, will it update it
(overwrite it),
--> It depends upon the object you are transporting. For e.g if you have transported the whole software component then the existing will be overwrite. Or if you add individual object or namspace then only that part will be overwritten.
Here you have option in CMS transport to mentioned, if you wish to delete any object, then jsut delete it from development SDL i.r. IR or ID and transport deleted object to Qu. you will get that option in CMS.
Thanks

  • About SLD

    HI, This is silpa.
i want information about SLD.And what is system products and components, technical systems and business systems.if any bady knows please farword  me.

    Hi Silpa,
want information about SLD.And what is system products and components, technical systems and business systems?
Good Document for u r requirement download this document .....
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d46b9b90-0201-0010-ef92-9964c1bc98e1
what is a Technical System? why is it created?
Technical system is a phisical machine, it have a IP. Can be a BBDD, ERP, J2EE ......... a Business System is a logical term that we use into the Business Scenarios and represent these Technical System that we had created.
In the SLD, you have SAP server details as a Technical system . Then Business System is created for this.
Registering a new technical system in SLD - ABAP based
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/10/registering-a-new-technical-system-in-sld--abap-based
what is a Logical System? why we create it while creating of Business System?
-->In SAP terms, a logical system is a client in a database. Messages are exchanged between logical systems.
Logical system is created in the SLD. For e.g you are posting an Idoc.
what is a Business system? What is use of creating it?
Business System have an entry in the SLD and Buiness Service do not.
Business Systems are used when you are sending data to and from an R3 system and can be of ABAP, JAVA and Third Party Types.
Business System is a logical representation of a Technical System.
Business Service is a abstract representation of a System. For instance, www.google.com have a several system working together and IPs of this machines change eventually. When we use a Business Services like google we reference a computer that we don't know the phisical implementation.
why we maintain a Logical system name?
--> Logical system is maintained to communicate with different systems under the distribution model of ALE Layer.
This is the official Training Material, it will not be possible to get it as direct..you need to approach any of the training Institute.

  • PI and SLD Transports using CTS+

    HI all,
We have a three system  PI landscape (DEV.QAS.PRD)
There is a two system separate SLD landscape (DEV/QAS & PRD SLD) - this is also serving PI, NWDI, Portal, & solution manager has its own SLD.
CTS+ has been configured to transport all PI objects in a PI Domain controller.
In trying to integrate SLD to PI domain controller, the SLD transport is created, we can see it in the transport organizer but after releasing the SLD transport , it does not show up in the SLD source system defined in the domain controller? Any ideas why?
The transport content is in /usr/sap/trans/data at the file system level.
    Regards, Neeta

I do not think CTS+ support SLD content transport. You have to use manual export/import mechanism from with in the SLDs.

  • Doubt in SLD Transport

    Hi,
I have 2 SLD's, one for DEV and the second one is for PRD. we dont have the QTY.
I know how to transport the IR and the ID objects using File system.
i want to know abt SLD transport
I have created one TS for SAP R/3 system and the Corresponding BS for TS in SLD.
i have created one PRD---SWCV. i didnt create any TS and BS for this PRD and SWCV.
I used this SWCV for Development in DEV Server and now we want to transport the IR and ID and SLD
    1) Do we need to create the Same PRD and SWCV in PRD server also OR is there any process to Import the SWCV from DEV to PRD??
    2) we have only One TS and BS for SAP r/3 , so do we need to Export those from DEV to PRD or do u want me to create the same in PRD???
If u recommend me to export the TS and BS means what is very simple process to transport into PRD server???

  • Any one have done SLD Transport

    Hi,
Iam struck up at SLD Transport.
I know how to Export & Import the TS & BS from this guide
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/9e76e511-0d01-0010-5c9d-9f768d644808
Can any one provide me the Over all general steps on
How to configure Transport groups & Targets*
    Regards
    Bopanna

    Hi Boppana,
If you want to transort the objects let us say from Dev to Test, then follow these steps
    1. Loginto Test SLD and go to Business systems, under business systems drop down box select Edit Groups and create Dev group and Test group.
    2. For each group you need to assign the related integration server. You might be having alredy TS and BS defined for XI integration server in test and export and import the Dev integratuon server TS and BS. Now you have both the DEV and Test Integration servers TS and BS in Test SLD.
    3. Export and import all other TS and BS for other systems into Test SLD. Once you import select each business system of Dev and goto Transports tab and on the left side select the target system which should be mapped.
You need to do this for all the TS and BS of Dev in Test SLD so that each BS of Dev will have a Technical Target defined.
Plz let us know if u have any problems
    Thanks,
    Srini

  • About SLD & multiple SLD

    Hi,
what are the advantages of SLD and multiple SLD?.
    comments are welcome
    regards,
    Barath

    Hi,
SLD (system Landscape Directory) is a central repository of information about systems and software in the data center.
so talking about the working of an SLD, here if any information is required for the integration server regarding the systems(logical or physical) and the software (installed products) it refers to the SLD. To tell you about the other features it has....it captures the dimensions of the system landscape like solution dimension, transport dimension and technical dimension. we assign a technical system to a business system to help the SLD make the appropriate association. The software products used by the business system are got from the technical system definition.
    This might help you

  • Queries about PS module and subsequent integration with MM, SD and PP

    Hello Experts,
Am posting the query for the first time so hope you all will excuse if something is not correct. Here is a scenario that I am working on:
    - The customer is a project engineering company wanting to use PS (but without networks - ONLY WBS)
    - We copy the neutral material BOM to create a project BOM
    - We create a multi-item sales order with a/c assignment to different assembly groups from the project structure for deliveries and billing
    - Project COST planning (V002 and V000) is carried out
    - Material stock must be valuated
Following are the scenarios for commitment and actual costs:
    1. Direct procurement:
Process: Material purchased with a PR generated from SO item --> PO --> GR --> IR
Query: I am guessing that commitment will be generated through PO creation for WBS. What about actual? What type of cost element should be assigned to the G/L being affected during GR so that I can get some actual against the WBS?
    2. Procure to produce:
    Process:
Common Purchase: Material purchased through a normal PO (without a/c assignment to WBS) for common unrestricted stock.
Project purchase: Material purchased through project PO (with a/c assignment to WBS - resulting in commitment generation) and special project stock at the time of GR
Both materials (from common and project PO) shall be used for production of an assembly which is being produced using a production order which is assigned to the WBS element.
    Query:
How and when would I be getting the commitment / actual effects here?
    - Is any commitment generated when I create a production order?
    - Is any actual cost posted when I issue raw material to this production order?
    - What if the raw material being issued to production order was not purchased using this WBS? Is the actual cost still loaded on this WBS?
    - What happens when I confirm the production order to generate FG stock?
What should I be careful about when defining this scenario and what type of cost elements should I be using?
    3. Procure - Produce - Sale
Process: In certain cases, material procured  for common stock is issued for project production,
Material produced for one WBS/Project gets issued for another.
Query: How does SAP react in this case about the entire commitments and actual cost postings?
I know there are too many queries but I hope you all understand that it is a project-engineering-manufacturing company so on one side the commitment-actual costs are important to be assigned to right project-WBS. At the same time, they also want to have the flexibility in their production activities.
Awaiting eagerly for all possible help.

Link farming is not allowed on this forum. Hence, i would not be able to post any links here. Just to get you started type "SAP Help" in Google. Open the 1st link and under Frequently used click on "ERP Central Components". Then under SAP ERP Central Component 6.0 click on "English". This will take you to a new window. Here, again click on "SAP ERP Central Component". Then click on Logistics - Project System.
You can find all the relevant topics listed here. Go through each one of them and revert with specific queries.

  • RFC: Queries about Arch culture and community

    Good day everyone,
This is a request for opinions from the Arch community, especially the Arch developers, Trusted Users, and long time users. I am writing a review about Arch Linux which I hope to publish within the next month or so. Unlike most distro reviews, which are actually distro installation reviews, I have devoted a lot of space to The Arch Way, unique technical qualities of Arch, day to day use and maintenance of Arch, and the Arch community. In my view, the community of a distro is much more important than its installation process.
If I may, I would like to pose some questions about the Arch community. FWIW, I have been quietly participating in the Arch community myself for some months now, contributing material to the wiki. Anyway, please take a look at the queries below, and comment on any as you see fit.
    Thank you,
    Luke Seubert
    1. Despite its modest size, Arch has a very enthusiastic community, as evidenced by its internationalization projects, derivative distros, 3rd party repositories, Arch schwag, active forums and wiki, etc. Is this statement true or false, and if Arch does have an especially enthusiastic community, why?
    2. Arch is deeply conservative, refusing to deviate from core principles. Still, within these bounds, Arch permits a wide array of innovation. Are these statements true or false, and why? If true, what are the pros and cons of such conservatism? If false, in what way has Arch deviated from its core principles or resisted innovation?
    3. The Arch community is fairly harmonious, with little bickering, flamewars, forks or threats to fork, etc. Is this statement true or false, and why? (I have my own theory on the why of this one, and the answer in brief is... dogfood.)
    4. How good or bad a job is Arch doing in cultivating new Trusted Users and Arch developers? Does it have a formal mentoring process? It seems the most direct path to TU status is to put together packages in AUR, and eventually have them voted into Community based upon quality and popularity. However, at some point, virtually all of the popular packages will already be in Community or Extra. How does an AUR uploader become a Trusted User then?
    5. Hypothetical Scenario:
The Chakra Project successfully completes in alpha, beta, and release candidate Live CD testing, and releases its Live CD - version 1.0 - with the GUI easy Tribe installer, to wide acclaim - DistroWatch even raves about it. Suddenly, there are lots of new Arch users, who never went through the traditional Arch install process, who never "paid their Arch dues", and who are not nearly as clueful because they never RTFW. They are flooding IRC and webforums with really, uh, "basic" questions, and suggesting/demanding new features. How does the Arch community handle this abrupt change in its culture? Has it dealt with such culture shocks before?
    6. If only you too could lift cars over your head, would you be more cool, less cool, or as cool as Phrakture, and why? What if you could only lift cars over your head after eating a can of spinach and slamming a six pack of Red Bull? Then how cool/not cool would you be by comparison?

    Allan wrote:
Here are my opinions on these questions and do not necessarily reflect other Arch devs...
    1. True.  I believe part of the enthusiastic community comes from the fact that Arch requires you to set up your system for yourself.  So people become very proud of their achievement of getting their system setup exactly as they like it.
This is an excellent point. There is a nice sense of pride that comes from tweaking your Arch install to just the way you like it. And it is an involved process requiring some modicum of skill.
Also, people have always been encouraged to contribute fixes or start projects to fulfill areas they see lacking.  Seeing your work become used by many others is always a good feeling.
Yeah, I have noted this in my rough draft. Arch has amazingly low barriers to entry. Sign up for an AUR account, which is quick and automatic, and get to work. Your status and authority is derived from a roughly consensual meritocracy, as opposed to a hierarchical, bureaucratic process full of gatekeepers, aka potential gateclosers, like most distros.
This simplicity extends to our package manager, which I believe is a major factor in making the AUR as popular as it is.  (Note that while pacman is developed primarily by Arch users, it aims not to be tied to any distro).
Allan, could you clarify this comment? How does pacman make AUR popular? While I use pacman to access binaries from core, extra, and community; I use yaourt to handle PKGBUILDs from AUR. I don't quite follow you on this one.
But as always, the principles guiding Arch do get bent when it is sensible to do so.  It was always said we don't split packages like many other distros, but we do some splitting these days (e.g. gcc-libs, KDE).  We now include info pages and other docs.
Both of which are good moves. A system should have documentation built in, for those occasions when internet access is down. And I might actually take a look at KDE 4 once again, now that I wouldn't have to download a pile of unwanted packages.
    3. There are flame-wars every so often...  The last one that was probably quite obvious to many was changing rules governing the community repo (requiring votes or 1% usage as defined by pkgstats) and the move to using the official db-scripts (which may be seen as making the TUs less independent).
That is a flamewar that I missed. How does Arch resolve difficult issues? There is no Constitution that I could find, nor any formal governing structure. Is it as simple as lengthy debate, and then Dred Overlord Phrakture decrees?
I have never heard of a treat to fork the distro or components of it.  I guess that is because of the attitude of show us a working implementation of a good idea and it will possibly become official.
Well, there aren't forks, but there are a lot of derivative distros, some of them with very different goals. And there are a lot of 3rd party repositories out there, outside of AUR. I wouldn't call that forking, but it is, I guess, extending. I think such experimentation is a good thing - really good ideas might be developed outside of even AUR, and eventually brought back into the Arch ecosystem. I believe some of Xyne's packages got started that way, yes?
Here is an interesting factoid I came up with in my research:
Packages Per Maintainer Ratio - how many packages on average does a maintainer support?
For Debian, the P/M Ratio is 28
When you add up all the Arch Devs and TUs, and divide out the packages in core, extra, and community, the Arch P/M Ratio is 67.
Arch devs seem quite impressive, until you recall that they mostly maintain one version of each package and for only two architectures, whereas Debian devs support 11 architectures for 5 versions - experimental, unstable, testing, current stable, and old stable. (Ugh - is that brutal or what?)
Seen in that light, one has to admire the very hardworking Debian devs, and wonder a bit about those Arch dev slackers. Yet another T-shirt idea! Change the first idea so it now reads, "I'm a slacker Arch developer, and I eat my own dogfood!"

I would like to transport all the Product, Software Component , Technical System and Business System Information from DEV to Production SLD. The plan is to make the Production SLD, the only SLD in future.
