Queries about storage - Nokia XL

How do I activate the SD card for Media storage. unlike other android phones you have the option to choose the Default Storage you want. Nokia XL does not have that option;. Media content always goes to the phone memory. Please help me.
Another thing, specification says the internal memory is 4GB but the actual storage of the phone is only 1.19GB for the Internal storage and 1.12GB for the Phone Storage. that only makes it 2.31GB. Where's the other half?
Moderator's note: We amended the subject so other community members can easily identify and answer the query.

The rest of the memory is consumed by the OS and on board apps and whatever operator junk,if any comes along with it.
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

With my iPhone 5s, can I record a long voice memo to the cloud and not worry about storage space on phone?

You can't add music to the cloud, whether it will show there for streaming and redownloading depends upon what country that you are in. If you are in a country where music is available in the cloud then you don't have to download the music from the store, if you turn Settings > iTunes & App Store > Music (under the 'show all' heading) 'on' then you should be able to stream purchased music in the Music app without downloading it - your phone will need to be online in order to stream, and if using 3G/4G then it will use some of your data allowance.
If you download an album or a track then it will be downloaded onto your phone. You can't upload music to the cloud from an iOS device. Whether music that you've bought shows for streaming depends upon what country that you are in and if the album or track remains in the store (unless you've subscribed to iTunes Match), and if you are connected to a network.

  • General question about storage, networking, and using large amounts of data

I have been using a powermac tower G5 up until now. I bought my daughter a macbook pro 15" i7, talk about a zippy little machine. What a screamer. I can't believe how fast it is with final cut express, Aperture, and Photoshop. I tend to use higher end stuff, video, photos, etc. Hence I need not only a good fast processor, but the storage....need lots of hard disk space.
oh, did I mention I bought this for my daughter who's about to go off to college? Heh, when I'm home, she loses the machine to me.... *evil grin*
Anyways, I haven't considered using a laptop before for me personally as I just don't care for the small screen size, no mouse, and things like that.
Seems I've changed my opinion, esp seeing as the new mouse track pad is a game changer. I still am not crazy about the small screen size, but I can get over it.
The one thing I can't get around is the small disk storage. I have 4 TB on my big machine. Between my video, photography, and music, I am nearing a full TB of just raw stuff. If I count all the things I've stored, especially finished videos I make of photography projects, well you can image the chomping that occurs on disk storage.
So what is a man to do about storage?
I'm really getting hooked on this zippy little machine. The idea of dragging it around is compelling. Having my work not tied to a desk is fun.
but the lack of storage is sucky, terribly so.
I have one possible option, taking the G5 and making it a server. I can use it for backup and high speed transfer, working on the transfer part today.
I thought I'd poll the collective wisdom of the community and see what do you peeps think is the best overall way to handle such a situation?
What is the absolute fastest best way to use external drives? Firewire 800 is ok, but when working with 400gb aperture database files....
I'm hoping there is some way to start posturing myself to really use a laptop for my full computing experience.
Or am I trying to make a small portable machine act like a tower? Is this not a reasonable hope at this point in time?
I'm open to suggestions. I'm going to purchase something when my daughter takes this laptop with her to college. Either a new mac pro tower or laptop. I love the portability but need speed and massive storage.
    Thanks for opining.

    Storage:
    1. Replace the drive with a larger one. Up to 1 TB is now available for notebook drives.
    2. Get a portable external drive for additional storage needs. See the options at OWC as an example.
    Drive speed:
    1. FW 800 should be fast enough for your work. If the computer has an ExpressCard slot then consider a card supporting full speed eSATA. You may then achieve speeds closer to the internal bus.
A laptop is not a tower so stop thinking of or comparing to your tower. Besides the laptop's speed compared to your G5 is more like comparing a Ford Focus to a Ferrari F150.

  • Basic question about storage and safety in iMovie '11

A very basic question about storage and safety:
I want to keep a backup of my raw footage on my external hard drive prior to begin working on the movie in iMovie. I want to do this:
    1. Upload the digital files from my camcorder to my Desktop *(as opposed to iMovie)*
    2. Duplicate that footage/clips.
    3. Put the duplicate clips/footage into a folder labeled with the name of that footage (like "Fun At the Dentist" or "Jimmy Learns How to Yodel").
    4. Drag the folder with the footage/clips into my external hard drive into a pre-existing folder titled "Backups/duplicates of all of my raw footage/clips." This big granddaddy folder will house all of the child folders of different movies.
5 Then, open up iMovie '11 and import the raw footage/clips from my Desktop rather than from my camcorder.
    6. Then I want to make a duplicate of my finished movie and put it in my external hard drive in a "Finished Movies" folder.
I know that the original raw unedited footage will always be in iMovies '11 but I want the original to also exist immediately accessible in my external hard drive.
    QUESTION:
Is this viable? Is it wise? (I know it goes an extra unnecessary step, but aside from that.)
*Do you have any precautionary advice?* Should I do something in my iMovies '11 preferences? What?
In earlier years with iMovie '04 or '06 (cannot recall) I made many novice errors and ended up losing audio to my finished movie. I also lost footage.
This time around with iMovie '11 I don't to make such novice, ignorant errors.
Thanks so much for any comments to this question.
    -L

Yes I'm sure it will work great for you.
The iFrame format is something Apple has come up with. The reason for its existence is unknown to me so I can only speculate. But it seems to me that Apple "invented" this format in order to have devices such as Ipod/Ipad/Iphone/Ixxx create clips that are editable on consumer hardware such as already mentioned devices but also standard Mac computers, without the need for format conversion.
iMovie converts most input formats during import, which takes a lot of time, and this need for conversion often comes as a surprise to most people new to home video editing.
iFrame has a resolution of 960x540 which is long way from the common standards of 1920x1080 and 1280x720. If your end target is YouTube however, this may not be too bad though. However if you intend to go with YouTube HD, you may find iFrame footage to look wrong since they are effectively upscaled to a higher resolution.
Technically iFrame uses the H.264 algorithm, a smaller frame size (960x540) and a rather low compression scheme. This will result in large files, but the plus side is that the files are ready for editing without the need for any conversion and iMovie will natively edit the files.

  • Two questions about the Nokia 920 to Nokia experts...

    Hi,
I am considering the Nokia 920 for replacing my Apple 4. However I have two questions that nobody in a phoneshop can answer. Furthermore I can test it myself as about all Nokia 920 in shops seems to be a dummy for showroom purposes.
Therefore I would appreciate it if somebody can answer these two questions:
    1. Which versions of MS-Office can be read on the Nokia 920?
    2. I have heard there are some difficulties with the Nokia 920 to watch Youtube movies. Is this true? If so, what is  the solution of Nokia. If have heard to load a Metro app that solves these Youtube problems.
I have seen many videos by now about the Nokia 920 but none does cover really these questions. Thanks for taking the time to write me an answer.

Thank you for your first post and welcome to the Nokia discussion forums.
    To answer your questions:
    1. The maps application are updated quite frequently throughout the year but I wouldn't be able to give you any specifics on the exact amount.
    2.  Again I wouldn't be able to give you an exact answer but when you do decide to download a specific map it tells you the size of the map data.
    3. Currently Nokia Drive has navigation maps for 90 countries although this is likely to change. Please keep an eye out for future updates.

  • Open Letter to Nokia - What I love about my Nokia ...

    Hello every one..
There's always something to rant about so I decided to post here in the hopes that Nokia took notice of what they're also doing very well and build upon that.
    1) Nokia N8 size, it's so very well balanced, I can browse, taking pictures and using apps yet doesn't destroy by pocket like most other smart phones do.
    2) Camera, whatever else there may be to complain about Nokia you gave me a fully usable camera under most circumstances as such my mind was set on the Nokia N8
    3) FM Transmitter and superior Bluetooth, I remember last Christmas, my friend had and his iPhone had a Canon camera with him, I took my pictures on the N8 of course and I played Christmas songs on the radio for every one whilst his iPhone sat there on the table of no use all shiny but untouched. Bluetooth has never sound so good and reached so far as with the 905i from Nokia, space out and chill out.
    4) Ruggedness; I've dropped my N8 at least 4 times now and once at an airport on the tiles where I was checking in. The phone actually bounched back into the air like 20 cm and I cought it in the air. I thought, whow, now something went wackidy but to my surprise I couldn't even find a scratch!?
    5) The extreme practically of a well balanced device: Here's one that takes a larger view. FM Transmitter, REAL camera and HD movies (Bigscreen!!), corporate and private email and OVI Maps in a nice package that fits into my pocket.
Taking the large view the N8 kicks @zz, yes it lags sometimes and yes iPhone email looks a little nicer and yes Android something etc. BUT no phone out there will allow you to take pictures of your own wedding or any important event in good enough quality except the N8. You can go on a road trip and play your tunes in the car without an adapter and you'll never get lost and you never have to check tourist info again cause the phone has it all!
So I don't care if it lags a little here or there because the N8 has saved me money as I didn't have to upgrade my old Canon but it brought me all the above in a nice little rugged package that looks sleeker and cooler then any other phone out there.
Thanks Nokia, keep up the great work!
PS. My brother dropped an iPhone for an N8, he got fed up forgetting his Olympus at all the important sporting events he's got to attend to.
    Simon
    N8 User.

I have used Nokia phones since 1994 with a short migrate to other makes from time to time but I ALWAYS come back to Nokia...the phones are easy to use......easy to navigate.
I now have a Nokia N8 and absolutely LOVE it...I have had only one problem (can't use phone when charging from standard outlet (bottom of phone)...using micro USB and PC USB all is fine).
Before I purchased my N8 I was talked into buying a Sony Experia 10i in the shop mainly by cost (nrly half that of N8) but also cos I was told the N8 had to be online 24/7 to work....well I purchased it on the Sat afternoon and was back in the shop 1st thing Monday to exchange for the N8 and have not looked back.
I have  2 friends with new iphones that they wanted to show off...when they then looked at my N8 they were amazed....and were GUTTED as they are stuck in a 2 yr contract!
Well done Nokia....keep up the good work....publicity wise times may not be good but remember you are the world leader in good quality innovated phones...well made and robust in most situations and do not have to rely on eyecandy to sell phones.......you actually put meaningful phones at our disposal and your reputation for this is 2nd to none.
    Well that's my tuppence worth!

  • Queries about PS module and subsequent integration with MM, SD and PP

    Hello Experts,
Am posting the query for the first time so hope you all will excuse if something is not correct. Here is a scenario that I am working on:
    - The customer is a project engineering company wanting to use PS (but without networks - ONLY WBS)
    - We copy the neutral material BOM to create a project BOM
    - We create a multi-item sales order with a/c assignment to different assembly groups from the project structure for deliveries and billing
    - Project COST planning (V002 and V000) is carried out
    - Material stock must be valuated
Following are the scenarios for commitment and actual costs:
    1. Direct procurement:
Process: Material purchased with a PR generated from SO item --> PO --> GR --> IR
Query: I am guessing that commitment will be generated through PO creation for WBS. What about actual? What type of cost element should be assigned to the G/L being affected during GR so that I can get some actual against the WBS?
    2. Procure to produce:
    Process:
Common Purchase: Material purchased through a normal PO (without a/c assignment to WBS) for common unrestricted stock.
Project purchase: Material purchased through project PO (with a/c assignment to WBS - resulting in commitment generation) and special project stock at the time of GR
Both materials (from common and project PO) shall be used for production of an assembly which is being produced using a production order which is assigned to the WBS element.
    Query:
How and when would I be getting the commitment / actual effects here?
    - Is any commitment generated when I create a production order?
    - Is any actual cost posted when I issue raw material to this production order?
    - What if the raw material being issued to production order was not purchased using this WBS? Is the actual cost still loaded on this WBS?
    - What happens when I confirm the production order to generate FG stock?
What should I be careful about when defining this scenario and what type of cost elements should I be using?
    3. Procure - Produce - Sale
Process: In certain cases, material procured  for common stock is issued for project production,
Material produced for one WBS/Project gets issued for another.
Query: How does SAP react in this case about the entire commitments and actual cost postings?
I know there are too many queries but I hope you all understand that it is a project-engineering-manufacturing company so on one side the commitment-actual costs are important to be assigned to right project-WBS. At the same time, they also want to have the flexibility in their production activities.
Awaiting eagerly for all possible help.

Link farming is not allowed on this forum. Hence, i would not be able to post any links here. Just to get you started type "SAP Help" in Google. Open the 1st link and under Frequently used click on "ERP Central Components". Then under SAP ERP Central Component 6.0 click on "English". This will take you to a new window. Here, again click on "SAP ERP Central Component". Then click on Logistics - Project System.

  • RFC: Queries about Arch culture and community

    Good day everyone,
This is a request for opinions from the Arch community, especially the Arch developers, Trusted Users, and long time users. I am writing a review about Arch Linux which I hope to publish within the next month or so. Unlike most distro reviews, which are actually distro installation reviews, I have devoted a lot of space to The Arch Way, unique technical qualities of Arch, day to day use and maintenance of Arch, and the Arch community. In my view, the community of a distro is much more important than its installation process.
If I may, I would like to pose some questions about the Arch community. FWIW, I have been quietly participating in the Arch community myself for some months now, contributing material to the wiki. Anyway, please take a look at the queries below, and comment on any as you see fit.
    Thank you,
    Luke Seubert
    1. Despite its modest size, Arch has a very enthusiastic community, as evidenced by its internationalization projects, derivative distros, 3rd party repositories, Arch schwag, active forums and wiki, etc. Is this statement true or false, and if Arch does have an especially enthusiastic community, why?
    2. Arch is deeply conservative, refusing to deviate from core principles. Still, within these bounds, Arch permits a wide array of innovation. Are these statements true or false, and why? If true, what are the pros and cons of such conservatism? If false, in what way has Arch deviated from its core principles or resisted innovation?
    3. The Arch community is fairly harmonious, with little bickering, flamewars, forks or threats to fork, etc. Is this statement true or false, and why? (I have my own theory on the why of this one, and the answer in brief is... dogfood.)
    4. How good or bad a job is Arch doing in cultivating new Trusted Users and Arch developers? Does it have a formal mentoring process? It seems the most direct path to TU status is to put together packages in AUR, and eventually have them voted into Community based upon quality and popularity. However, at some point, virtually all of the popular packages will already be in Community or Extra. How does an AUR uploader become a Trusted User then?
    5. Hypothetical Scenario:
The Chakra Project successfully completes in alpha, beta, and release candidate Live CD testing, and releases its Live CD - version 1.0 - with the GUI easy Tribe installer, to wide acclaim - DistroWatch even raves about it. Suddenly, there are lots of new Arch users, who never went through the traditional Arch install process, who never "paid their Arch dues", and who are not nearly as clueful because they never RTFW. They are flooding IRC and webforums with really, uh, "basic" questions, and suggesting/demanding new features. How does the Arch community handle this abrupt change in its culture? Has it dealt with such culture shocks before?
    6. If only you too could lift cars over your head, would you be more cool, less cool, or as cool as Phrakture, and why? What if you could only lift cars over your head after eating a can of spinach and slamming a six pack of Red Bull? Then how cool/not cool would you be by comparison?

    Allan wrote:
Here are my opinions on these questions and do not necessarily reflect other Arch devs...
    1. True.  I believe part of the enthusiastic community comes from the fact that Arch requires you to set up your system for yourself.  So people become very proud of their achievement of getting their system setup exactly as they like it.
This is an excellent point. There is a nice sense of pride that comes from tweaking your Arch install to just the way you like it. And it is an involved process requiring some modicum of skill.
Also, people have always been encouraged to contribute fixes or start projects to fulfill areas they see lacking.  Seeing your work become used by many others is always a good feeling.
Yeah, I have noted this in my rough draft. Arch has amazingly low barriers to entry. Sign up for an AUR account, which is quick and automatic, and get to work. Your status and authority is derived from a roughly consensual meritocracy, as opposed to a hierarchical, bureaucratic process full of gatekeepers, aka potential gateclosers, like most distros.
This simplicity extends to our package manager, which I believe is a major factor in making the AUR as popular as it is.  (Note that while pacman is developed primarily by Arch users, it aims not to be tied to any distro).
Allan, could you clarify this comment? How does pacman make AUR popular? While I use pacman to access binaries from core, extra, and community; I use yaourt to handle PKGBUILDs from AUR. I don't quite follow you on this one.
But as always, the principles guiding Arch do get bent when it is sensible to do so.  It was always said we don't split packages like many other distros, but we do some splitting these days (e.g. gcc-libs, KDE).  We now include info pages and other docs.
Both of which are good moves. A system should have documentation built in, for those occasions when internet access is down. And I might actually take a look at KDE 4 once again, now that I wouldn't have to download a pile of unwanted packages.
    3. There are flame-wars every so often...  The last one that was probably quite obvious to many was changing rules governing the community repo (requiring votes or 1% usage as defined by pkgstats) and the move to using the official db-scripts (which may be seen as making the TUs less independent).
That is a flamewar that I missed. How does Arch resolve difficult issues? There is no Constitution that I could find, nor any formal governing structure. Is it as simple as lengthy debate, and then Dred Overlord Phrakture decrees?
I have never heard of a treat to fork the distro or components of it.  I guess that is because of the attitude of show us a working implementation of a good idea and it will possibly become official.
Well, there aren't forks, but there are a lot of derivative distros, some of them with very different goals. And there are a lot of 3rd party repositories out there, outside of AUR. I wouldn't call that forking, but it is, I guess, extending. I think such experimentation is a good thing - really good ideas might be developed outside of even AUR, and eventually brought back into the Arch ecosystem. I believe some of Xyne's packages got started that way, yes?
Here is an interesting factoid I came up with in my research:
Packages Per Maintainer Ratio - how many packages on average does a maintainer support?
For Debian, the P/M Ratio is 28
When you add up all the Arch Devs and TUs, and divide out the packages in core, extra, and community, the Arch P/M Ratio is 67.
Arch devs seem quite impressive, until you recall that they mostly maintain one version of each package and for only two architectures, whereas Debian devs support 11 architectures for 5 versions - experimental, unstable, testing, current stable, and old stable. (Ugh - is that brutal or what?)
Seen in that light, one has to admire the very hardworking Debian devs, and wonder a bit about those Arch dev slackers. Yet another T-shirt idea! Change the first idea so it now reads, "I'm a slacker Arch developer, and I eat my own dogfood!"

  • Help with queries about boot camp and partition, please.

Hi, I am hoping to partition my HDD. I have done this before, when I first got my macbook but got rid of it, and now I can't fully remember the do's and don'ts' of boot camp. I just need a few questions answered before I take any action.
    1. I have a 120GB HDD with about 15GB free space. If I partition the drive will I lose any data on my existing HDD?
    2. What is the minimal amount of space I can partition the drive and install Windows?
(I have a copy of Windows XP SP2, and really only need to install it for the use of one program that isn't available on the Apple operating systems.)
    3. I tried using Parallels in which Windows took up about 6GB, will it be about the same again? I uninstalled it because I found it to lag a bit.
If you can help with any of these queries I would really appreciate it, thanks!

Maybe you should first get a larger drive; you don't have much more than the minimum 10% free space that Mac OS needs.
Retry with Sun's VirtualBox. Maybe you just need more memory.
    Lose data? Step #1: backup.
You may need to backup and erase your hard drive and then restore.
I'd invest in 300GB drive though.
