Space Allocation in a Temporary Tablespace
You can view the allocation and deallocation of space in a temporary tablespace sort segment using the V$SORT_SEGMENT view. The V$TEMPSEG_USAGE view identifies the current sort users in those segments.
When a sort operation that uses temporary space completes, allocated extents in the sort segment are not deallocated; they are just marked as free and available for reuse.

1)Go to ME5A t-code & select DYNAMIC SELECTIONS.
2)Select "Purchase Requisition" section and you can make use of parameters like Release Code, Release Indicator , Release Status etc., to fetch the required results.

Jobs are not released

Is this a new system or a copied system? Generally this happens in a copied system since the default server group still has the source system information and hence jobs will not run. Goto Txn SM61 and look for Job group. In the default list, you should see your server instance name. If it is showing any other name, just delete the entry and add the current instance to the list.

Self tuning threads are not releasing even though server running fine.

One of the cluster instance is running fine and serving the requests with good response but there self tuning threads are not releasing .I am not seeing any stuck threads in logs and no errors. why threads are not releasing.How we can troubleshoot this issue. May I know what are the cause of this.

Hi,
We are on AEX 7.4 and have enabled user defined search and also setup archiving. Even though the retention period has expired but still the messages are not being
archived.
We see following issues:
1. Unable to setup archiving rule in Runtime Work Bench, we are getting following error:
Rules are not allowed for jobs with set 'archive edited messages only flag.
2. Unable to set the expiration of messages using the following link.Each time we specify the number days it shows the same number of
messages expired.

3. However if we click on "remove messages" button the messages are getting deleted which tells me that the messages are not matching any
archiving rule hence are being removed.

BI 11G Standard Edition One: can the iOS client work with it?

Is it possible to run the iOS (iPhone/iPad) BI client with BI 11G Standard Edition ONE? Anyone tried?

nonsense - if you have only 2 sockets (include the multi-chip factor when calculating the number of sockets -- see my posting) and not using the rest of the sockets and your motherboard allows it - it should be no problem in licensing. The problem arises if your socket count goes more than 2 by installing another CPU -- then you need to upgrade to the proper Oracle license.
remember, if this is a Linux box, and you installed a single (1) dual-core CPU (AMD or Intel Xeon for example), then the socket count is 1x2x0.5=1 socket (you are paying single processor license for SE1), if you install another dual-core CPU, then your socket count becomes 2 (which is the max # of sockets for SE1) and you pay 2 x processor license. if you install another dual-core CPU, then you have 3 sockets and you need SE license (3 x processor license for SE for the same box).

apparently, when it comes to SE1 and SE licensing, the MCM (Multi-Chip-Module) definition becomes extremely important. If it is a Power 5 cpu, it is definitely an MCM, for AMD Opteron Barcelona CPU - it is not MCM. For Xeon, yes it uses MCM but the word is that when some folks called their Oracle Sales rep, they were told it is not MCM (even Intel said, it utilized MCM technology for that particular Xeon CPU). Dataguard with 11g Standard Edition

Hi, We have 11g standard edition. I wish to provide high availability. From the license document We are able to setup Basic Standby Database(Manually Managed). What is difference between Data guard and Basic standby? Hw can i configure? What r all the requirements? Any other possible ways?

Running GoldenGate against Oracle 11g Standard Edition?

We're looking to run Oracle GoldenGate against an Oracle 11g Standard edition database to another Oracle 11g DB also on Standard. I've been reading though the documents and they talk of Oracle to Oracle using XStreams which is part of Streams. But it's my understanding that Streams is only available on Enterprise.
So is it possible to run GoldenGate on Oracle DB Standard Edition?

AFAIK, Golden Gate has no requirement on Oracle edition to be used, but could have licence cost differences.
It works on Oracle from version 8i to the latest one, not only on Oracle database, and not only between same Oracle version and same OS, and not only between two Oracle db .

DBMS_CRYPTO on 11g Standard Edition

I have a customer on 11g standard edition that wants to encrypt data at rest inthe tables. My firstthought was using the DBMS_OBFUSCATION, which I know is supported on 11g standard. I see that Oracle recommends DBMS_CRYPTO, but I see contradicting threads that say whether this is available on standard edition or enterprise edition only. Can someone provide me wiith that answer?

Definitely use DBMS_CRYPTO over the deprecated DBMS_OBFUSCATION and it is available for use in Standard Edition.
As for how and why you are doing this, (depending on how much data you need to encrypt/decrypt) what your client will save in cost they will lose in performance. This is what features like TDE are for.

Primavera with Oracel 11g standard edition ( Connecting multiple databases)

I have installed primavera 8.2 with Oracle 11g standard edition. ( After lots of trial and errors )
I installed / Created two databases using primavera dbsetup.bat file for creating new database.
Data base names are PMDB and PMDB2
Currently i am using PMDB with oracle connection string as "ORCL" and database aliase as PMDB and its working fine
"C:\app\xxxxx\oradata\orcl" this location contains both databases physically
I seek your advice how to modify string to access other database ( PMDB1)
because if i have tried with different aliase name but it connect to same database ie PMDB

Is this P6 EPPM 8.2 or P6 PPM? Are you using P6 client or web to connect to it?
If this is P6EPPM then you can log into P6 Administrator and expand database node, create a duplicate node of it and change the database connection parameters. Save it and try to login using P6 Web. Select the correct database from Advance link below Username/Password.
If this is P6 PPM then define tns entries on your machine for both the databases ans use them to configure P6 client.

Space is not released from tablespaces even after purging recycbin

Hi,
I had 168GB of space occupied by recyclebin objects (BIN$...) when i queried on dba_segments, after purging the recyclebin it is showing 0.
But i didn't find any difference in the free space dba_free_space in tablespaces before and after purging.
Is it the thing that even after purging recycbin, it is not released the space for respective Tablespaces?
Also wanted to know how to release the space.

If you have a table X, with segments in tablespace TS, and you drop the table, you now have a recycle bin object BIN$X that owns those same segments in that same tablespace TS. That's why the segments still appear in DBA_SEGMENTS. But Oracle knows that it is free to reuse the segments associated with BIN$X if it runs out of other space to use (and Oracle knows to reuse segments from recycle bin objects in the order they were dropped) so the segments are free in DBA_FREE_SPACE. Just like deleting a file on the file system is just updating a pointer to some sort of file allocation table but not actually removing the bits from the hard drive, dropping an object when the recycle bin is just marking the segments as no longer associated with a real object.
I have no idea whether 11g has changes to recover index names-- you might take a look at the 11g documentation (either the New Features guide or the Flashback Drop docs).

Releasing TEMP tablespace segments

Hi All
Due to some SQL Queries, the temp tablespace is getting full. I want to release the space in the TEMP tablespace by a command. I know SMON does it (correct me). I have Oracle 9i, and the TEMP tablespace is a local tablespace.
Any help will be appreciated.

temp segment is full may be normal...you need to add some space! well, you can't clean the temp segments when it is used by some running process! smon allocates and deallocates space in temp segment, users doesn't have any control!! how did you define the temp segments...temporary or permanent? and why smon is not doing the cleanup...couple of stack dump of smon would be helpful. you can use any debugger in your system to dump the stack.

Queries are not displaying in EP

HI,
when USER(power user ) try to access BW queries via the EP, none of the queries are displaying.Other users are also experiencing the same issue.
I ran the web template in browser its showing nothing.I have only one web item in template definition i.e " Role Menu item"
Pls suggest what could be the problem.

Try to launch a web template in Portal, from the Menu option in WAD.If it is not launching in portal check the connections between BW & Portal.

Why SQL queries are not saving in agentry editor for first publish?

In the process of developing an agentry application i have defined SQL steps and saved in agentry editor with out any errors .When i have published definations for first time it is displaying error 'Invalid object some where' in back end SQL log file ,when i have seen in editor some times the query is not saved,some times even it is defined then also the same error.So i have copied the steps and saved again.Now i have done a publish,it is working fine.This is happening only when i implement exchange mechanism(Showing error in ATE getfetch error).But with out exchange mechanism it is working fine.Is this related to the installation of editor plig-in is not correct?. I have done preferences setting in my workspace correctly.

Two suggestions (My best suggestion is item 2 below - I think that is where you have the error)
Item 1: Are you using the right encoding? In your Eclipse Editor under the main menu Windows - Preference -> General -> Workspace. What is your Text file encoding set to? Cp1252? Try setting it to UTF-16.

The course is really a simple < 5 minutes discussion on different types of encoding and why they exist and how to change the Eclipse to what you wanted. SQL is normally done in UTF-16 for 16 bit.
I am assuming that the encoding could be wrong.
Item 2: Another thing that could be wrong is how you specify the SDML (Flunky code).
In your SQL Script: Anything that has the "<<" and ">>" open and close marker is an SDML (Data Markup Language) and needs to be pre-populated before the Agentry Server submits your SQL query to the backend. In essence, this is use to populate the SQL query with predefine information like your userID or location and when the SQL gets process it will populate the script with the correct information.
So if you are not properly using the flunky (ex: <<object.address>> where address is not a key ID in a Fetch step (Check manual for usage of SDML AgentryLanguageReference_6.0.0.0.pdf) then you may get invalid object.
When you do a SQL "Fetch" Client Exchange and Server Exchange Steps, you can select a few options:
For this discussion let us talk about these 2 items below.
1. Run Attribute: Run One Time
or
2. Run Attribute: Run Once Per Object.
When you select Run Once Per Object the only available Flunky or SDML commands you have are:
object.keyPropertyName
lastUpdate
fetch.messageNumber
The 3 above are your only options
If you try to do something like object.property1 where property1 is part of your object properties then it will not work for Run Once Per Object.
It may work for Run One time as fetch.propertyname.
From your symptoms where you are complaining about an issue in exchange steps, your error is a typo or a misused or a misunderstanding of how fetches and SDML works (documented in page 398 or 399 of AgentryLanguageReference_6.0.0.0.pdf).
See pictures just in case you don't have access to that pdf file (The picture below simply proves what SDML options is available for your Fetch Client Exchange Step).
