Hi All,
1) Can anybody give me link for benefits of MDM. How it can help an industry in betterment of master data and also help them to avoid creation of duplicates.
2) Once the data is cleansed & harmonized in central master data management and then distributed to client systems.How can one prevent creation of duplicates in client systems.
3) Ideally where the master data should be created when there is a fresh load of master data - in client systems or central master data manager.What is recommended?

I am a Basis Consultant and new to MDM. I have following doubts. Many may find it very basic, but being new to MDM I want explanation on these.( If I am conecpt wisr wrong please correct me):
1. As per my knowledge MDM Stores Master data in form of repositories coming from various systems ( SRM,ERP etc.). I want to know whenever data is modified ( New product added, new Employee id added etc) , whether this modification takes place in MDM Server or ERP,SRM Server?
2. In either cases what is the frequency of data refresh ? ( Incase its modified in SRM then what is frequency it gets updated in MDM Server or vice versa)?

Ans: First of all MDM can store data from different systems as well as its own. If you add new product on ERP, SRM, or CRM side, It will be stored at both the places. On local system like ERP ... and on MDM system after you will export it from that system using integration tool, reports, MDM generic extractor, etc..
You can also send that data back to R3 system after modification, cleansing or merging duplicates in mdm.
2. In either cases what is the frequency of data refresh ? ( Incase its modified in SRM then what is frequency it gets updated in MDM Server or vice versa)?
Ans: Depends upon export mechanism on ERP, SRM side and Import server delay time settings.
Means if you are exporting data using Idoc, you have to trigger that then data will go to Ready folder of MDM repository, therefrom MDM Import server will pick according to delay settings for import server in mdis.ini file in automate process. or 2nd option is you will manually load the data using import manager and it will take affect in MDM repository.

We are implementing SRM5.0 with SRM-MDM 2.0
We have implemented the Standard Functionality of SRM-MDM2.0 without XI.
We have some doubts pertaining to SRM-MDM2.0
1) Why Key Mappings are required?
2) What is the purpose of Linking Attributes with Categories?
3) Why we have to upload the Images into several places.
    for eg in "Images" table and also in Catalog Items there is
    a field for images.Where exactly we have to upload images
    in Images table or in the Catalog Items field
    called "Images".
4) Functionality of "Mask"
5) In the Shopping cart 'Context View' Tab is missing.
6) How Shopping Cart will be used by the SRM user.
7) How we mapped SRM user with SRM-MDM Catalog.
8) In the "Catalogs Items" Table there is a field called "Relationships" what is the purpose of the same?
Kindly help me on the questions with details description.

1.Why Key Mappings are required
A remote systems objects are mapped to master data objects withinMDM using key mapping. A key mapping maintains the relationshipbetween the remote systems identifier (or key) for an object and thecorresponding master data object in MDM.A key in MDM is a remote system-specific and object-type-specificunique identifier.
4. Functionality of Mask
Masks is a static snapshot of the repository in other words it is a virtual repository that we create. Masks can be easily created based on your search in the Data manager client. You can then store this search as mask. Masks have to be first created in the data manager, this mask can be assigned to a given user in the console manager under the Roles table. Once the user is assigned mask he will be able to see only those records assigned to him. In other words it acts like views.
Masks can be also passed as parameter in the url if you are viewing the catalog in the browser (SRM-MDM). Records need to be added manually to the masks they dont get added dynamically.
8. Realtionships table
For relationships table you need to create relations between your records. This can be helpful when you have items details for procurement where your Main item can be related to a subsitute item or a component item or its accessories.
You can create relation ships in the main table record in the data Manager in the record mode just double click on the relationship pane in the Record Detail tab...you will get the relationship box for that record than you can just drag and drop other records as per the relation you want it to maintain with other records.

MDM catalog integration with SRM 7.0

We will be upgrading from SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.0
We currently have CCM .....Few questins on catalog enablement for us with SRM 7:
1.With SRM 7,0,can we use CCM oor MDM is the only option???
2.Is it better to have MDM as a seperate server and enable SRM MDM catalog content?
3.We have 2 punch out catalogs for 2 vendors.How to enable the punch out catalog links in SRM 7.0???What is the path for IMG config??
4. We have around 20 internal supplier catalogs .Now should we upload few of the supplier catalogs and then upload rest or can we upload all the suuplier catalogs at once through IMPORT MANAGER in MDM ???What are therestrictions in terms of the no of catalogs or catalog data that can be improted and mapped ???
5.What are additional features in SRM MDM 3.0 catalog in contrast to CCM??
6.The backend master data such as Supplier/Porg etc.....how is that synchronised from SRM to SRM MDM catalog???Is it through some scheduled programs???
7.What is the use of PI/XI in enabling SRM MDM catalog??Why is it mandatory??
8. What are the allowed file types for cataog data upload in MDM???Like it was CSV in CCM...

   You can use any catalogs which support SAP OCI interface.

   MDM Server(contents) and AS Java(for UI) are required. Please check the installation guide.

Yes. You can use Import Manager. No issues.

Any. Even for DB interface is also supported. You see all options when you run import manager.

Sample repository definition is delivered. You can manually create 1 entry by Data Manager.

Using MDM Web UI for Tracking Changes in MDM with SQL

Hi
Does any one have Step to step document on How to Generate MDM Web UI for Tracking Changes with SQL Server.
we are using SAP Netweaver Composition Environemnt 7.1,SAP MDM 7.1and Micorsoft Sql Server 2008.
I found few blogs and documents in SDN, but all of them were not with Composition Environment Version 7.1.
Already i activated Change Tracking in SAP MDM Console and i am able to see the changes to Field values in SQL with Select Queries.

Query on BPM & MDM scenarios

Hi All,
My Requirement ,
The scenario is BPM-Portal(SOAP)- - - ECC(RFC)- - - MDM(7.1)
The webservice(Asyn) is being triggered from the BPM-Portal ,it has to send the values to both systems parallely ,
a)ECC system by using a RFC(syn)
b)MDM server
and the response(status) of the RFC message should be passed to the MDM server .
My queries are,
1)Could anyone suggest me on how to proceed the above stated scenario.
2)If I configure the MDM server using 7.1(PI-MDM Adapter), will my xml file would directly updates the MDM tables .
3)I hope MDM 7.1 works only for Asynchronous flow,is that correct?

MDM JCo Connection takes a long time

Hi,
I've just timed the time it takes from my java application to establish a connection to MDM.
It takes 14 seconds.
catalog.Login(server,port,login,password,language,1,10,5000,"C://temp.txt");
Our J2EE server and MDM is on a separate box on the same LAN. Once the connection is established, the queries are very fast.
Is there any way to speed this up?

Hi Michael,
from my experience you can try two / three things to speed up connection / login operation.
First: as Mausam suggested since you are developing application on J2EE stack - you should use MDM JCA connector (with connection pooling mechanism)
Second: each time the you trying to establish connection from java application to
MDM server using Java API - all lookup tables data will be transfered to client side (cached on the java application side). Try to reduce size of the lookup tables.
and one more thing: you can try to use MDM Java API 2

Database tables in MDM

I would like to know about this table A2I_XCAT_DBS in MDM database. I know in this table we will find repository schema user ids and repository entires. Any documenration for these database table.

Hi Kiran,
More than documentation ,suggest you use SQL Enterprise manager (incase of SQL server) or any database tool.You can have a look at all the tables and fields practically once.
Connect to database SQLserver > Navigate to Databases folder > Select the repositoryname_m000 > select Tables from hierarchy pane > Tables pane on right hand side will display all the tables related to repository.
You can as well run simple queries for tables and view the records.
This exercise will surely provide a good insight on DB tables related to MDM.
Please give a try .

MDM Web Service authentication issue. How to use ?

I' am a Microsoft technology person I' am working on integrating SAP MDM 7.1 to SharePoint 2010 using MDM Web Services interface and consuming the same in .NET custom component.
I tried the WS with "None" authentication and it worked great.
I' am having issues understanding how HTTPAuthentication with SAP Logon ticket authentication works in MDM.
Created the authentication enabled web service and while testing in NetWeaver WS Navigator, it throws me exception, not able to establish session with repository for user XYZ.
Please help me with the following queries I have:
1) How to test a authentication enabled web service in NetWeaver WS Navigator ? Do the user id/password needs to be set in the "Invocation Parameters" ? Link to any article etc will be appreciated.
2) How to pass the MDM user credentials (or just the username) in the MDM web service in .NET code. I didn't see any parameter in the Client class constructor to pass the same, nothing related to that found in the code that gets generated on adding the service reference.
As per the documentation on the MDM security, looks like a trust relationship also needs to be configured on MDM - allow.ip file entries.
However first I want to understand how to pass this information in Web Services through code.
SharePoint   -

(integrated with Active Directory                        (Where Web services are deployed     (have its own user accounts)
so logged in user is already authenticated)          and have its own user accounts)
The trust relationship configuration could solve the problem of authentication marked in second hop (2) by registering the IP address of PI server.
Please help me understand how would it work to solve the first hop (1) problem and what needs to be done.

The code sample provided there has the following step where user name is being set and passed to MDM:

I want to understand how to do that for MDM Web Services.
I didn't see any method accepting this user name while calling the web service method / creating client object.
So that link is still missing.

SRM -MDM Catalog Implementation

Hi All,
I am currently working on SRM-MDM catalog implementation and would like to clear a few queries regarding the same:
1. What are the different possible ways to transfer data from SRM to MDM?
2. In the configuration guide it is mentioned that if you want to send Contract, InfoRecords, Product Data then we have to use XI. Communication between SRM and XI will be using XI protocol. It means we have to create outbound proxy for triggering data from SRM to XI.
Is this correct please confirm. If yes do we have a standard proxy report to do the same.
3. In the Functional Documentation Guide for SRM-MDM catalog it is mentioned that to send contract data from SRM use transaction SRMMDM_CTR_TRANSFER. but though it shows the contract data, it is not able to send data to XI. Is some setting required for sending data to XI?
4. In Functional Documentation Guide for SRM-MDM catalog it is mentioned that to upload Supplier Data from SRM system to SRM MDM Catalog repository use Report ROS_SUPPLIER_SEND_TO_CATALOG. But while executing this report I m getting exception "Function module "BUPA_MWX_BDOC_BPS_FILL_CENTRAL" not found.".
How do I solve this?

you can use the import Manger of MDM to upload XML, CSV XSL data files
The connection from SRM to SRM-MDM is done via OCI 4.0.
If you want to replicate data from your backend R/3 system you have to use XI.
2. Please Refer to the installation guide of SRM-MDM there the connection between Backends and XI is expalained in detail.
3-4 . Have you depoyed every file of the istallation there is also a part to be deployed in SRM?

Does MDM 7.1 have version management capability?
I would like to keep separate versions of schemas in development repository. is that possible in 7.1?

MDM Catalod data to ECC

Hi,
I have a requirement like the following.
From MDM server, the catalog data will be maintained.
From ECC, we need to pull the data from MDM catalog and create PR ( Purchase Requisition ) in ECC.
How can we achieve this?
Is it possible via PI?.
If so, please provide me the steps to carry out.

Can't we call the BAPI_PR_CREATE1 /BAPI_PO_CREATE1 directly from MDM to create the PO ?No PI development required in that case ..

Create users in MDM console

HI,
I want to create some hundreds of users in console.Hence i dont want to create it manually.
Is there any procedure to load the users into console list.

Hi Sreenath,
There are couple of ways to accomplish this .
1) If you have IDM then you can push all the user ID's into the MDM system .
2) if you have direct DB access you can run some queries import the user roles and mapping directly .
