Query about Oracle 9i AS
Hi,
An apology, if this is wrong place to ask this question.
Is it possible to achieve following in Oracle 9i Application Server
1. Capability to produce XML documents from the data in database
2. Creating and deploying web service in Oracle application server.
3. Any queuing option provided in oracle for such web service requests/response?
Please let me know your views on this.
Any help will be highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Ninad
The short answer is yes to all your questions.
For #1, refer this:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28369/xdb13gen.htm#g1047191
You might want to check following too for all about XML in Oracle:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/xml/index.html
For #2 and #3, refer this tutorial:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/ws/wsandascontrol.htm
Also check out this:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/java/oc4j/odd/index.html
PS: You might not be able to do everything with 9iAS which is an older version of Oracle Application Server. You might have to work with 10g version.
Thanks
Shail

Query about oracle standard request monitoring page
Hi all
I have provided a link for request monitoring in OA Framework through the following url
OA.jsp?akRegionApplicationId=0&akRegionCode=FNDCPREQUESTVIEWPAGE
But In this page there is no option to cancel the request .Also there is no column for viewing the parent request as we have these option in oracle forms.
Could u plz tell me if there is any option to view parent request Id and Cancel button in Oracle standard Request Monitoring page.
Thanks and Regards
BhupendraJaison,
There's another way to do that might work for you:
1. Create the fields updated_by and updated_on in the table;
2. Create in the page the items PX_UPDATED_BY and PX_UPDATED_ON of type "Text field (saves state)";
3. Go to the properties of the item.
PX_UPDATED_BY
Source:
- Source Type: Database column;
- Source Value or expression: updated_by
- Post Calculation Computation: :APP_USER
Default:
- Default value: &APP_USER.
PX_UPDATED_ON
Source:
- Source Type: Database column;
- Source Value or expression: updated_on
Default:
- Default value: sysdate
- Default value type: PL/SQL Expression
When the user submits the changes, the table fields are updated.

How to write REF-CURSOR Query in Oracle Reports
Hello Guys!!
I have a form in which you can select regions/divisions/locations etc by the use of check boxes. And the selected values will be inserted into a table, and based on the selected values of the table the report is run.
The issue I have is with the query inside the Oracle reports(attached to this file).
The query works fine until the last two EXISTS conditions.
IF a region exists In the table report_param then it works fine but if there are no divisions in it , then the query returns no values, which is not correct.
Someone has advised me to use a ref-cursor query inside reports tool, which I am not aware off. So, anykind of suggestions or advises are welcome. Please let me know about it as it is very urgent issue for me. Anykind of help would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Vishal

Using IN Operator in Query Parameter querying an Oracle dataset
I have created a main data set querying from Oracle in which I have two query parameters that are multi-valued lists. I created a data set for each of those multi-valued lists. These two parameters are configured to be multi-valued and selected
from the query. On the main data set, the parameters are set to an expression: = Join(Parameter.Field.Value, ","). If I sent just one value as a default in each of those parameters, works great. If I select "Select All"
in my drop down and rerun the report then I get "Query execution failed for dataset" and "rsErrorExecutingCommand". I am using Report Builder 3.0. I have seen some older posts saying you have to use a stored procedure to generate
a string from the selects to be passed to the parameter? I don't get this. Obviously I want to stick with using a query parameter for the performance gain. Is there an easy way to make this work?
Grateful for any help! LaurieLaurie, you are right that the execution time is too long. Your instinct is correct to put the burden on the database to return the correct resultset, rather than filtering it in the report.
I think I wasn't clear about my explanation and you may have made this more complicated than it needs to be. The functionality that you want is already in ReportBuilder. Please check out this example from MS:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337396(v=sql.105).aspx
This is the correct syntax:
AND soh.SalesPersonID IN (@BusinessPersonID)
Is this how you have your query configured? If not, could you supply an example.
Hope that helps,

Query about licensing Jdeveloper
Dear Friends,
I have a query about licensing of Jdeveloper development tool. I understand that Jdeveloper is Free tool.That is we do not require license to use Jdeveloper for development as well as production.
Recent I heard that Jdeveloper is free only if we purchase Oracle Application Server. Is it correct ? Does one need to purchase Jdeveloper license if it is being deployed on any other App. server eg. Jboss etc ?
Can anyone throw light on the same ?
Many thanks,
VaijHi,
JDeveloper is free! Oracle ADF - the binding layer - ADF BC, and ADF Faces need an OracleAs licence

============================================
PURPOSE
============
- Direct
- where 절에 해당하는 export utility는 query parameter 를 사용한다.
UNIX syntax:
- Example:
1.SCOTT.Emp table의 ename 이 JAME과 비슷한 이름의 data 를 export ..
exp scott/tiger query=\"where ename like \'JAME%\'\" tables=emp file=exp.dmp log=exp.log
2. employee와 cust table에서 new york 주의 data 만 export ..
exp scott/tiger query=\"where st=\'NY\'\" tables=(employee,cust) file=exp.dmp log=exp.log
예)query=\"where JOB = \'SALESMAN\' and salary \< 1600\"
tables=emp query="where job='SALESMAN'"
[rmtdchp6]/apac/rdbms/64bit/app/oracle/product/9.2.0> exp scott/tiger parfile=p
Export: Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on Wed Mar 17 00:12:34 2004

server uses KO16KSC5601 character set (possible charset conversion)
About to export specified tables via Conventional Path ...
. . exporting table EMP 4 rows exported
exp scott/tiger tables=emp query="where job='SALESMAN'"
LRM-00101: unknown parameter name 'job'
EXP-00019: failed to process parameters, type 'EXP HELP=Y' for help
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
1>exp scott/tiger tables=emp query=\'where deptno=20\'
Export: Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production on Wed Mar 17 00:22:00 2004
Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
Connected to: Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production
Export done in US7ASCII character set and AL16UTF16 NCHAR character set
server uses KO16KSC5601 character set (possible charset conversion)
About to export specified tables via Conventional Path ...
. . exporting table EMP 4 rows exported
2>exp scott/tiger tables=emp query=\'where job=\'SALESMAN\'\'
LRM-00112: multiple values not allowed for parameter 'query'
EXP-00019: failed to process parameters, type 'EXP HELP=Y' for help
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
query=\'where deptno = 20\'
query=\"where deptno = 20\"
query=\'where deptno \< 2\'
query='where deptno = 20'
query="where deptno = 20"
query='where deptno < 20'
WINDOWS NT / 2000 와 NETWARE syntax:
Example:
EXP demo/demo tables=emp file=exp1.dmp query="""where deptno>30"""
file=exp66.dmp
query="where deptno > 20"
tables=(emp)
log=log66.txt
userid=scott/tiger
Explanation
Windows NT or Win2000의 경우 command line에서는 3 double quotes 이 필요하고
'PARFILE 을 사용하는 경우에는 double quotes(") 한번만 필요함

One of the new feature about oracle 11g is continuous query notification. Where can I find the detail information about it?
On the 11g new features manual it states:
"1.1.6.4 JDBC Support for Continuous Query Notification
This feature allows Java Applications or Containers to subscribe to SQL queries watch list in the database and be notified when:
* DML or DDL changes affect the objects associated with the queries, or
* DML or DDL changes affect the result set
The notifications are published when the transaction (DML or DDL) commits.
Java Applications and Container prevents unnecessary database querying and implements efficient and consistent result set caching and cache invalidation."

Hi Everyone,
I want oracle query with which we can retrieve information about oracle RAC.
This information is, No of Clusters, Db instances...
Which Tables i can query for this information?
Thank You In Advance...
RoshanHi,
I think you would mean active instances on your cluster....
Query v$active_instances
04/05/[email protected]=287> select * from v$active_instances;
INST_NUMBER INST_NAME
1 rac1:ORCL1
2 rac2:ORCL2

Access Query to Oracle Query conversion
I am converting an Access database to Oracle 8.1.6.
There are lot of reports in Access. HOw can I convert the Access
query to Oracle equivalent query??? Is there any tool available
for conversion???FYI,
Microsoft Access is using ANSI SQL. And Oracle has introduced ANSI SQL from Oracle 9i so, it is also in 10g.
Oracle 10g does not stop backward compatibilty so, It is depends on person. And I am not forcing you to migrate query from ACCESS to Oracle. I have simply answer the question which you have asked. Whether you want to perform efficiently or not it's your choice.
But one thing is sure, ORACLE (9i or 10g) provides ANSI SQL and MS ACCESS is using ANSI sql so, this task is feasible. No doubt about it. -
Query in timesten taking more time than query in oracle database
Hi,
Can anyone please explain me why query in timesten taking more time
than query in oracle database.
I am mentioning in detail what are my settings and what have I done
step by step.........
1.This is the table I created in Oracle datababase
(Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0)...
CREATE TABLE student (

2.THIS IS THE ANONYMOUS BLOCK I USE TO
POPULATE THE STUDENT TABLE(TOTAL 2599999 ROWS)...
declare
firstname varchar2(12);
lastname varchar2(12);
catt number(9);
begin
for cntr in 1..2599999 loop
firstname:=(cntr+8)||'f';
lastname:=(cntr+2)||'l';
if cntr like '%9999' then
dbms_output.put_line(cntr);
end if;
insert into student values(cntr,firstname, lastname);
end loop;
end;

load cache group rc_student commit every 100 rows;
6.NOW I CAN ACCESS THE TABLES FROM TIMESTEN AND PERFORM THE QUERY
I SET THE TIMING..
command>TIMING 1;
consider this query now..
Command> select * from student where first_name='2155666f';
< 2155658, 2155666f, 2155660l >
1 row found.
Execution time (SQLExecute + Fetch Loop) = 0.668822 seconds.
another query-
Command> SELECT * FROM STUDENTS WHERE FIRST_NAME='2340009f';

Execution time (SQLPrepare) = 0.074964 seconds.
The command failed.
Command> SELECT * FROM STUDENT where first_name='2093434f';
< 2093426, 2093434f, 2093428l >
1 row found.
Execution time (SQLExecute + Fetch Loop) = 0.585897 seconds.
Command>
7.NOW I PERFORM THE SIMILAR QUERIES FROM SQLPLUS...
SQL> SELECT * FROM STUDENT WHERE FIRST_NAME='1498671f';
ID FIRST_NAME LAST_NAME
1498663 1498671f 1498665l

Can anyone please explain me why query in timesten taking more time
that query in oracle database.

Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database
Difference between upgrdae and migration about oracle database
please give the commentsWell, the question is almost philosophic...<br>
In 9i, there is a Migration Guide whereas in 10g there is a Upgrade Guide.<br>
Furthermore, in 9i, there is the command line startup migrate whereas in 10g that's startup upgrade.
Somebody think upgrade when go to new release, and migration when go to new version.<br>
Others think upgrade when new version replace database in place, and migration when new version include a move of database.<br>
Another point of view is : upgrade is for technical, and migration for application/data.<br>
<br>
Well, after these explanations, your upgrade/migratation notion will not be more clear, but I think that is not very important, only a terminology game. The most important is to know what you need : new version or new release.<br>

Frm-40505:ORACLE error: unable to perform query in oracle forms 10g
Hi,
I get error frm-40505:ORACLE error: unable to perform query on oracle form in 10g environment, but the same form works properly in 6i.
Please let me know what do i need to do to correct this problem.
Regards,
PriyaHi everyone,
I have block created on view V_LE_USID_1L (which gives the error frm-40505) . We don't need any updation on this block, so the property 'updateallowed' is set to 'NO'.
To fix this error I modified 'Keymode' property, set it to 'updatable' from 'automatic'. This change solved the problem with frm-40505 but it leads one more problem.
The datablock v_le_usid_1l allows user to enter the text (i.e. updated the field), when the data is saved, no message is shown. When the data is refreshed on the screen, the change done previously on the block will not be seen (this is because the block updateallowed is set to NO), how do we stop the fields of the block being editable?
We don't want to go ahead with this solution as, we might find several similar screens nad its diff to modify each one of them individually. When they work properly in 6i, what it doesn't in 10g? does it require any registry setting?

Problem with different resultset with same data and same query in Oracle 8.1.7 and 9i
Hello,
I have been using this query in oracle 8.1.7
SELECT
ID,
AREA_NO
FROM MANAGER_AREA MGR
WHERE COMPANY_ID = :id AND
(:value < (SELECT COUNT(ROWID)
FROM MANAGER_WORK MW
WHERE MW.AREA_ID = MGR.ID AND
(MW.END_WORK IS NULL OR MW.END_WORK >= SYSDATE)))
order by AREA_NO;
In the above query I want to see rows from MANAGER_AREA table depending upon date criteria in the table MANAGER_WORK and also upon the parameter :value i.e if I pass a value as 0 I get to see records for which their is atleast 1 record in MANAGER_WORK with the date criteria and if I pass -1 then I get all the records because minimum value that count(*) would give is 0. The resultset was as expected in 8.1.7.
A couple of days back I installed PERSONAL 9i to test for testing the basic functionality of our program with the same data. This query fails and irrespective whether I pass -1 or 0 it returns me same dataset which I would have got in case if I pass 0.
I do not know whether this is a bug that has got introduced in 9i. Can anybody help me with this problem. It would be difficult for me to change the parameter send to this query as the Query is called from many different places.
Thanks in advance
Amol.I cannot use a Group by and a having statement over here. The problem with 'Group by' and 'having' clause is If I have to make a join between the two tables. When I use join then I get only rows that are linked to each other in the table.
If I use outer join to solve that problem then I have to take in consideration the other date condition. My previous query use to virtually discard the corelated query result by using -1 as the value. This will not happen in the join query.
